  • Hermetic rotary compressor is one of the most Important components for air conditioning system since it has a great effect on both the performance and the noise and vibration of He system. Noise and vibration of rotary compressor is occurred due to gas pulsation during compression process and unbalanced dynamic force. In order to reduce noise and vibration. it is necessary to identify sources of noise and vibration and effectively control then. Many approaches have been tried to identify noise sources of compressor. However, compressor noise source identification has proven to be difficult since the characteristics of compressor noise are complicated due to the interaction of the compressor parts and gas pulsation. In this work, Statistical Energy Analysis has been used to trace the energy flow in the compressor and identify transmission paths from the noise source to the sound field.

  • Impedance calculations of electric railway traction systems is essential to define characteristics and to design it. The self impedance is defined voltage drop rate per unit length, the mutual impedance is represented as a voltage induced to transmission line from transmission line. The self and the mutual impedance are influenced by ground return currents. The earth is considered as a semi-infinitely extended non-ideal conductor. The current of transmission line produces earth current induced magnetically and it flow through a path having minimum impedance. Carson proposed the impedance calculation formula using wave equations and magnetic field equations. Though the formula have an improper equation, that is still used as a standard impedance calculation method. This paper introduced an impedance calculation method that the complex depth of earth return method assumes that the current in conductor returns through an imagined earth depth path located directly under original conductor at a depth of. In this paper, we showed that this proposed method has a closed form and is easier than Carson's.

  • A numelical model has been developed for the permeable coastal structures to simulate hydraulic characteristics on the permeable slopes, which interact with internal flow field of the structures. The model includes hydraulics in the porous medium. Numerical model was calibrated using hydraulic model experiments performed in 2-D wave flume in the Institute of Orean Hydraulics in PKNU. Good agreement were obtained with the model which employed inertia resistance term than with the conventional model, PBREAK.

  • This paper presents an apparent impedance calculation procedure for distance relaying of transmission line involving FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission System) devices, particularly the UPFC (Unified Power Flow Controller), between Kangjin and Jangheung in Korea. With the changes of UPFC's parameters, the measurement and protective range (trip boundaries) of the adaptive distance relay can also be changed. So, it is the most important part in the field of system protection to analyze the operating characteristic of relaying system. The presence of UPFC significantly affects the trip boundaries which are also adversely affected by fault resistance combined with remote end infeed. This paper presents the apparent impedance calculations and the distance relay setting characteristics for faults involving the UPFC in the KEPCO system.

  • The basic graph layout technique, one of many visualization techniques, deals with the problem of positioning vertices in a way to maximize some measure of desirability in a graph. The technique is becoming critically important for further development of the field of systems biology. However, applying the appropriate automatic graph layout techniques to the genomic scale flow of metabolism requires an understanding of the characteristics and patterns of duplicate and shared vertices, which is crucial for bioinformatics software developers. In this paper, we provide the results of parsing KEGG XML files from a graph-theoretical perspective, for future research in the area of automatic layout techniques in biological pathway domains.

  • Experiments and numerical calculations were conducted on the flow field of a model ejector ramjet configuration to investigate fundamental fluid dynamic aspects of its pumping and mixing effects. Also a one-dimensional flight performance analysis program was constructed with a simple ejector modeling. After comparing the model with some of the previous experimental and numerical results, a flight performance analysis was conducted with the program. The present states of the program and some features to be improved are presented.

  • A numerical solution for heat transfer in the flue tube of a pulse combustion water heater was presented. The $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulent model was adopted to describe turbulent characteristics and radiative heat transfer was calculated by P-N approximation. Three pulsating conditions equivalent to existing experimental studies were used for analysis. Pulsating pressure was specified at the inlet and outlet of flue tube and numerical procedure using control volume method and pressure boundary condition was presented. It was found that the present mathematical model and numerical method could predict effectively the flow field and heat transfer for the flue tube in pulse combustor.

  • A new electrostatic rotary atomizing painting equipment using air turbine was developed. Based on the overall design requirements of painting equipment basic design specifications of the equipment parts such as air turbine and atomizing disk are defined from the present conceptual design model. Air turbine is designed with the section profile of NACA airfoil, and its internal flow field is analyzed by commercial CFD code. Atomizing disk is designed to achieve the ligament type spray of paint with the use of visualization technique. Various experiments and tests are conducted to investigate the spray and the transfer characteristics of newly-designed painting equipment, and the measurement results are compared with the those of conventional painting equipments.
