To analyze the characteristics of air flow and $CO_2$ extinguishant transfer when extinguishant is injected into a closed space similar to marine engine room, a numerical simulation on a space was performed. Flow fields and $CO_2$ concentration fields are calculated according with the variation of the location & injection angle of nozzles. The results of simulation showed that the pattern of recirculation flow was affected greatly with the location & injection angle of nozzles and such a recirculation flow accelerated mass transfer of $CO_2$ and greatly affected the diffusion process of $CO_2$ extinguishant. It is considered that this result of this study can be useful to designing the arrangement of nozzles for the $CO_2$ fire fighting equipments in a marine engine room.
This study investigated on details of flow characteristics of a multi-blade fan for domestic ventilation. Experiments and analysis were carried out to describe on flow pattern with variations of cut-off angle near the scroll housing throat, which were performed by PIV measurement for the flow field and by total pressure probes. The stagnation point at cut-off region of the fan moves to the exit of the scroll housing as the cut-off angle increases. The movement of stagnation point and the variation of throat area of the scroll housing influence to the distribution of velocity magnitude at the exit of the fan. Furthermore, a large distortion of the velocity distribution at the scroll exit causes to increase mixing loss along the flow path.
A comprehensive numerical study was carried out to identify the on-set condition of the cell structures of oblique detonation waves (ODWs). Mach 7 incoming flow was considered with all other flow variables were fixed except the flow turning angles varying from 35 to 38. For a given flow conditions theoretical maximum turning angle is $38.2^{\circ}$ where the oblique detonation wave may be stabilized. The effects of grid resolution were tested using grids from $255{\times}100$ to $4,005{\times}1,600$. The numerical smoked foil records exhibits the detonation cell structures with dual triple points running opposite directions for the 36 to 38 turning angles. As the turning angle get closer to the maximum angle the cell structures gets finer and the oscillatory behavior of the primary triple point was observed. The thermal occlusion behind the oblique detonation wave was observed for the $38^{\circ}$ turning angle.

The butterfly valve is widely used in the industrial field as an on-off or a flow control valve. When the butterfly valve is used as a flow control valve. cavitation sometimes occurs in the range of high flow rate because of the small valve opening. Therefore. the pressure loss and the cavitation characteristics are investigated by use of a commercial CFD code. The results show that the possibility of cavitation occurrence in the cryogenic butterfly valve is very high in the case of valve opening angle below 10 degree and incident velocity over 6m/s. By increasing the inlet velocity at 10 degree of valve opening angle. the value of loss coefficient increased. However. by increasing the inlet velocity at 50 degree of valve opening angle. the value of loss coefficient decreased.

Swirling air flow in a horizontal round tube was experimentally studied for its visualization. The present investigation deals with swirl angle, flow visualization studies and accompanying vortex core behavior by using oil smoke and a hot wire anemometer for Re = 40,000 and 50000 at X/D = 41, 59 and 71. In the swirl air flow, a vortex core was formed at high swirl intensity along the test tube. The swirl angle and the vortex core depended on the swirl intensity along the test tube. The results of swirl angles measured by flow visualization and hot wire reasonably agree with those of previous studies.

In this study, the flow rate and air resistance pressure were analyzed on models a, b, and c due to the front wing angle of the airplanes. Models a, b, and c have front wing angles of 120°, 100°, and 160°, respectively. The results of the flow analyses showed that the flow rate and air resistance pressure of model c were observed to be higher than models a and b. The airplane model with a larger angle to the front wing is thought to be the best model for flight. This result can be applied to development of the best in-flight airplane.

In order to optimize the rotating angle of the auto louver, the air-cleaner with turbo fan was numerical and experimentally analyzed . The noise generated from the auto louver was changed by modifying the installation angle of the louver. Flow field and flow noise were analyzed numerically by commercial tool SC/Tetra and FlowNoise S/W. Experiment was also done at anechoic chamber. From the numerical and experimental data, we can find the optimal rotating angle for auto louver of the air-cleaner.
The swirl spray for direct-injection spark-ignition (DISI) engines was investigated using a nozzle whose exit surface shape was cut with a certain tapered angle. The reason for the change in spray's characteristics at various tapered angles was explained by the data correlating the taper and flow angles. The spray tended to shift its characteristics from the symmetric to asymmetric when the tapered angle was increased; furthermore, the spray penetration and spray cone angle were also increased. When the tapered angle was greater than the $90^{\circ}$ minus flow angle, an opened hollow cone spray was formed because of the fuel impingement against the tapered surface area of the nozzle exit. This behavior indicates that the reduction in the air pressure difference between the inner and outer spray of the spray can be achieved. This behavior also promises the potential use of the tapered nozzle for the case where the independence of the spray performance from atmospheric pressure and fuel temperature is desired.

This study numerically analyzes the thermal and flow characteristics inside the header in PFHE(parallel-flow heat exchanger) by employing a three-dimensional turbulence modeling. The following quantities are examined by varying the injection angle of the working fluid, the location of entrance and the shape of entrance: flow nonuniformity, heat transfer rate, and flow distribution in each passage. The result shows that the degree of significance among the parameters affecting the header part is in the order of the injection angle, the shape of entrance, and the location of entrance. The result also indicates that heat transfer rates compared to the reference model are increased by about 152% for the angle of injection of -$20^{\circ}C$, by about 127% for the shape of entrance with right and left long rectangular form, and by about 108% for the location of entrance located at the lowest Position.

The tail flip of the decapod shrimp is a main feature in escaping behavior from the mesh of the codend in the trawl. The characteristics of tail flip in target prawn was observed and analyzed in a water tunnel in respect of flow condition and mesh penetration by a high speed video camera (500 fps). The tail bending angle or bending time in static water was significantly different than in flow water (0.7 m/s) and resultantly the angular velocity in static water was significantly higher than in flow water when carapace was fixed condition. When escaping through vertical traverse net panel in water flow the relative moving angle and relative passing angle to flow direction during tail flip, it significantly decreases the number of shrimps escaping than the case of blocking shrimp. The bending angles of tail flip between net blocking and passing through mesh were not significantly different while the bending time of shrimp passing through mesh was significantly longer than when shrimp blocking on the net. Accordingly the angular velocity of passing through mesh was significantly slower than blocking on the net although the angular velocity of the tail flip was not significantly related with carapace length. The main feature of tail flip for mesh penetration was considered as smaller diagonal direction as moving and passing angle in relation to net panel as right angle to flow direction rather than the angular velocity of tail flip.
