Electrical resistivity survey have been widely conducted at diverse scales, from a few centimeters for laboratory tests to kilometers for field tests. It measures electrical resistance through relationship of electric potential difference and current between two electrodes penetrated on the surface of medium, and eventually quantifies electrical resistivity known as inherent properties of the medium. In field or full-scale test, it assumes the electrodes as equivalent half-sphere electrodes that have a same surface area with different electrodes for ease of calculation because the contact area between electrode and medium is small and sufficient distance between two electrodes. However, small-scale laboratory test is significantly affected by the electrode geometries (penetrated depth, height, radius of electrode and distance between electrodes), which change the equipotential surface and electric current flow. Indeed, the electrode geometries may eventually cause a difference of electrical resistivity value. This study reviews the theoretical electrical resistance derived with various electrode geometries (half-sphere, cylinder, cylindrical with half-spherical tip, cylindrical with conical tip) and verifies the developed numerical module by comparing results with the theoretical electrical resistance. The distributions of electrical resistance around electrodes and among electrodes are analyzed. In addition, it is discussed how the electrical characteristic of cylindrical electrode with conical tip widely used in field test has effect on the electric current flow.
To investigate the cause of overflow in the torrential stream, the estimated peak flow of run-off and the maximum tarring capacity of the stream were measured at the upstream of Samsung-cheon located in Kwanak Aboretum during July, 1987. The results obtained from this study could be summarized as follows : 1. The surveyed catchment area was 477ha, which was 116 of the designed area (410ha) by the plan. 2. The maximum rainfall intensity measured was 99.5mm/hr and was almost same as the designed intensity(100mm/hr). 3. The surveyed run-off coefficient was 0.672 that was about twice as much as designed one(0.35). 4. The surveyed peak flow of run-off was $88.59m^3/sec$, 222% as large the designed one($39.9m^3/sec$). 5. The designed cross-sectional area of the stream was $17.25m^2$, which was 68% of the designed one$25.43m^2$. 6. The surveyed hydraulic mean radius was 0.94m, which was shorter than the designed one(1.28m). 7. The surveyed mean stream-bed gradient(0.998%) was almost the same as the designed one(1.00%). 8 The surveyed maximum velocity of flow passing through the stream was 2.87m/sec, 78.0 of the designed one(3.68m/sec). 9 The surveyed run-off capacity of the stream was $49.51m^3/sec$, 53% of the designed one ($93.5m^3/sec$).

In-situ test to find the change of $Fe^{2+}$ and $Mn^{2+}$ concentrations and ion contents in groundwater was conducted during two pumping tests at the riverbank filtration site, where is the riverine area of the Nakdong River in Changnyeong-Gun. Groundwater was sampled at one pumping well and 10 monitoring wells during a 5 steps drawdown pumping test with the rates from $500m^3/day$ to $900m^3/day$ and a constant pumping test with $800m^3/day$. The change in ion concentration of groundwater was more remarkable during a step drawdown pumping test than a constant pumping test. Especially, the decrease in $Fe^{2+}$ and $Mn^{2+}$ concentrations was distinct in a step drawdown pumping test and it happens predominantly along the direction that the radius of pumping influence was small due to a good aquifer connectivity to a pumping position. The precipitation and the oxidation of iron and manganese were caused by an air inflow and a disturbance in groundwater flow due to an abrupt change in pumping rate. The pumping rate and spatial distribution of an aquifer around a pumping well need to be considered as an important factor for the development of in-situ iron and manganese treatment technology.

A volume density of roughness correction blocks in a channel is defined and the corresponding roughness coefficient(n) is estimated by analyzing the diverse hydraulic characteristics of VR, the product of the average velocity and the hydraulic radius, block Reynolds number ($Re^*$), drag coefficient ($\acute{C}_D$), and the roughness coefficient ($n_b$) of bottom shear. The increase of VR and block Reynolds number causes the exponential decrease of roughness coefficient converged to a constant value as expected. The drag coefficient also exponentially decreases as block Reynolds number increases as well. The drag force is governed by the block shape defined by volume density in high block Reynolds number of turbulent flow region. For more accurate estimation of roughness coefficient the use of the correlation equation of it is required by block Reynolds number and volume density. The regression equations for n-VR, $\acute{C}_D-Re^*$, and $n_b-\acute{C}_D$ are presented. The regression equations of roughness coefficient are also presented by block Reynolds number and volume density. The developed equation of roughness coefficient by block Reynolds number and volume density has practical use by confirming the coincidence between the experimental results and the results of HEC-RAS using the developed equation.

Depressurization occurs around underwater objects moving at high speeds. This causes cavitation nuclei to expand, resulting in cavitation. Cavitation is accompanied by an increase in noise and vibration at the site, particularly in the case of thrusters, and this has a detrimental ef ect on propulsion performance. Therefore, predicting cavitation is necessary. In this study, an analytical method for cavitation noise is developed and applied to an elliptic wing. First, computational fluid dynamics are performed to obtain information about the flow fields around the wing. Then, through the cavitation nuclei density function, number of cavitation nuclei is calculated using the initial radius of the nuclei and nuclei are randomly placed in the upstream with large pressure drop around the wing tip. Bubble dynamics are then applied to each nucleus using a Lagrangian approach for noise analysis and to determine cavitation behavior. Cavitation noise is identified as having the characteristics of broadband noise. Verification of analytical method is performed by comparing experimental results derived from the large cavitation tunnel at the Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering.

ZnO has a very large exciton binding energy (60 meV) as well as thermal and chemical stability, which are expected to allow efficient excitonic emission, even at room temperature. ZnO based electronic devices have attracted increasing interest as the backplanes for applications in the next-generation displays, such as active-matrix liquid crystal displays (AMLCDs) and active-matrix organic light emitting diodes (AMOLEDs), and in solid state lighting systems as a substitution for GaN based light emitting diodes (LEDs). Most of these electronic devices employ the electrical behavior of n-type semiconducting active oxides due to the difficulty in obtaining a p-type film with long-term stability and high performance. p-type ZnO films can be produced by substituting group V elements (N, P, and As) for the O sites or group I elements (Li, Na, and K) for Zn sites. However, the achievement of p-type ZnO is a difficult task due to self-compensation induced from intrinsic donor defects, such as O vacancies (Vo) and Zn interstitials ($Zn_i$), or an unintentional extrinsic donor such as H. Phosphorus (P) doped ZnO thin films were grown on c-sapphire substrates by radio frequency magnetron sputtering with various Ar/ $O_2$ gas ratios. Control of the electrical types in the P-doped ZnO films was achieved by varying the gas ratio with out post-annealing. The P-doped ZnO films grown at a Ar/ $O_2$ ratio of 3/1 showed p-type conductivity with a hole concentration and hole mobility of $10^{-17}cm^{-3}$ and $2.5cm^2/V{\cdot}s$, respectively. X-ray diffraction showed that the ZnO (0002) peak shifted to lower angle due to the positioning of $p^{3-}$ ions with a smaller ionic radius in the $O^{2-}$ sites. This indicates that a p-type mechanism was due to the substitutional Po. The low-temperature photoluminescence of the p-type ZnO films showed p-type related neutral acceptor-bound exciton emission. The p-ZnO/n-Si heterojunction LEO showed typical rectification behavior, which confirmed the p-type characteristics of the ZnO films in the as-deposited status, despite the deep-level related electroluminescence emission.

In this paper, optimum design process of ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma) torch, which has been used widely in aerospace application, such as supersonic plasma wind tunnel, is presented. For this purpose, the behaviors of equivalent circuit parameters (equivalent resistance and inductance, coupling efficiency) were investigated according to the variations of torch design parameters (frequency, $f$, confinement tube radius, $R$ and coil turn numbers, $N$) in the basis of analytical and numerical MHD (Magneto Hydro-Dynamics) models combined with electrical circuit theory. From the results, it is found that equivalent resistance is increased with the increase of $f$ values but vice versa for equivalent inductance. For elevated values of $R$ and $N$, however, both parameters tend to increase. Based on these observations, ICP torch with a power level of 10 kW can be optimized at the design ranges of $f$=4~6 MHz, $R$=17~25 mm and $N$=3~4 to maximize the electrical coupling efficiency, which is the ratio of equivalent resistance to equivalent inductance.

Drag reduction produced by dilute solution of water soluble ionic polymer-surfactant complex under turbulent flow in a rotating disk apparatus(RDA) was investigated in this study. Three different molecular weights of polyacrylic acid(PAA) were adopted as drag reducing additives, and distilled water was used as a solvent. Experiments were undertaken to observe the dependence of drag reduction on various factors such as polymer molecular weight, molecular expansions and flexibility, rotating speed of the disk and polymer concentration. Specific considerations were put on conformational difference between surfactant and polymer, and effect of pH on ionic polymer possessing various molecular conformation through pH. The complex of ionic polymer and surfactant(Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate) behaves like a large polyelectrolyte. Surfactant changes the polymer conformation and then increases the dimension of the polymer. The radius of gyration, hydrodynamic volume and relative viscosity of the polymer-surfactant system are observed to be greater than those of polymer itself. Such surfactant-polymer complex has enhanced drag reduction properties.

This paper contains a new approach to blade section design method for marine propellers. The hydrodynamic characteristics of 2-D section are highly influenced by its geometrical parameters i.e., thickness and camber distributions and leading edge radius etc. To consider fully turbulent flow field near 2-D section. the finite volume method with k-${\varepsilon}$ turbulent model which solve Reynolds time averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) equation is applied. In this study, O-type grid system that can provide many calculation points on blade surface is used. The results were compared with those of the experiment of NACA0012 to confirm the accuracy of the developed codes. The goal of this study is the development of a blade section with high efficiency and low drag. To achieve this, we carried out the tests of lift, drag and cavitation characteristics in cavitation tunnel. The results of experiment were compared with numerical results in order to validate the proposed blades design method. By comparing the numerical results with the experiments, we found that the new blade section, KH28 allows superior performance in efficiency and cavitation avoidance characteristics. We further investigated the blade section design method and an application study of this section, KH28 to apply to the marine propeller. In order to improve the accuracy of numerical results on prediction of lift and drag, we conclude here that the 2-layer boundary model must be used.
The Buddhist Triad Cave in Gunwi, which consists of porphyritic biotite granite, has been deteriorated by a few weatherings. Origin of the weatherings is rain that can be leaked into the cave. Therefore the author investigates a few possible joints and bypasses leaking water, and reinforces any protective schemes for the rain influx. The porphyritic granite around the cave regularly develops two NEE and NWW joint sets. The NEE joint set could be divided into 4 joint zones among which $J_m\;and\;J_3$ may directly affect the leaking water into the cave. A extensional joint, in northern wall of the cave, runs through the $J_m$ joint zone. A small rain could rarely gets through the bypass, but a heavy rain has a good circulation through the joints to be leaked into the cave for a long time because of its long way. Many joints and cracks, in the ceiling near the cave entrance, immediately get to the $J_3$ joint zone, and have a good circulation of a small rain 10 mm. It is the desirable protective schemes that forbid rains to influx along the ranges from L -9 m to +10 m in the $J_m$ joint zone and upper half circle with radius 5 m in the $J_3$ joint zone. The joint apertures should be filled with a petro-epoxy and petro-filler to stop the water flow.
