Simplified Cubature Kalman Filter for Reducing the Computational Burden and Its Application to the Shipboard INS Transfer Alignment

  • In this paper, a simplified Cubature Kalman Filter (SCKF) is proposed to reduce the computation load of CKF, which is then used as a filter for transfer alignment of shipboard INS. CKF is an approximate Bayesian filter that can be applied to non-linear systems. When an initial estimation error is large, convergence characteristic of the CKF is more stable than that of the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF), and the reliability of the filter operation is more ensured than that of the Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF). However, when a system degree is large, the computation amount of CKF is also increased significantly, becoming a burden on real-time implementation in embedded systems. A simplified CKF is proposed to address this problem. This filter is applied to shipboard inertial navigation system (INS) transfer alignment. In the filter design for transfer alignment, measurement type and measurement update rate should be determined first, and if an application target is a ship, lever-arm problem, flexure of the hull, and asynchronous time problem between Master Inertial Navigation System (MINS) and Slave Inertial Navigation System (SINS) should be taken into consideration. In this paper, a transfer alignment filter based on SCKF is designed by considering these problems, and its performance is validated based on simulations.

Estimation of Flexural and Shear Strength for Steel Fiber Reinforced Flexural Members without Shear Reinforcements (전단보강이 없는 강섬유보강 콘크리트 휨부재의 휨 및 전단강도의 평가)

  • Results of seventy-seven specimens tested by this study and previous research were collected and evaluated to propose the flexural strength and shear strength for flexural members with steel fiber concrete. For strength evaluation, structural parameters such as compressive strength, steel fiber content, tensile reinforcement ratio, and shear span to effective depth ratio are involved. The proposed equations for flexural and shear strength are regarded to give a good prediction for the strength of steel fiber reinforced composite and/or RC beams to compare with equations by previous researchers. Especially, the proposed shear strength equation in this study shows the lowest the mean value, the coefficient of variation and the error ratio among predictions by several equations. Therefore, equations for shear strength and flexure strength, which are proposed in this study are to be useful measure to predict the actual behavior and failure mode of steel fiber reinforced composite beams.

  • Confocal scanning microscopy (CSM) is an important instrument in a wide variety of imaging applications because of its ability to provide three-dimensional images of thick, volume specimens. The mechanism for two-dimensional beam scanning and optical sectioning has an important roe in CSM as the three-dimensional profiler. This optical sectioning property arises from the use of a point detector, which serves to attenuate the signals from out-of-focus. The intensity profile for the open loop scanning should be matched with its response for the standard. The non-linearity can be minimized with the optical sectioning or the optical probe of the closed loop control. This paper shows the mathematical expression of the light such as the extinction curve in the optical fields of system using AO deflector, the axial/lateral response experimentally when the error sources change, and the methods of optical sectioning.   • Straodown intertial navigation system(SDINS) is a navigational instrument necessary to guide and control a free vehicle. Dynamically Tuned Gyroscope(DTG) which is widely applied to SDINS convers a wide dynamic range and is simple and small. In study, the analysis of mechanical parts or sensor parts and research of balancing is performed for manufacturing a DTG. In error analysis the criterion considered during designing and manufacturing is established by quantitatively anayzing the effect of DTG performance by tolerance. And the theory of dynamic balancing is derived and unbalance is reduced through experiment. And the stiffness of flexure is verified by tuning experiment.

  • To Establish of standard technique of length measurent in 2D plane, we develope AFM system. The XY scanner scans the sample only in XY plane, while the Z scanner scans the specimen only in Z-direction. Cantilever tip is controlled to has constant height relative to speciman surface by feedback of PSPD signal. To acquire high accuracy, Z-axis measuring sensor will be added.(COXI or others). In this paper we design XYZ stage suitable for this AEM system. For XY stage, single module parallel-kinnematic flexure stage is used which has high orthogonality and minimum out-of-plane motion. To obtain best performance optimal design is performed. For XY stage, to be robust about parasitic motion optimal design of maximizing Z and tilt stiffness is performed under the constraint of motion range and stage size. And for Z stage, optimal design of maximizing 1st resonant frequency is performed. Because if resonant frequency is get higher, scan speed is improved. So it makes reduce the error by sensor drift. Resultly XYZ stage each have 1st natural frequency of 115㎐, 201㎐, 2.66㎑ and range 109㎛, 110㎛, 12㎛.

  • The mirror which is considered in designing a MFD is off-axis primary one and its dimension is wide 556mm height 345mm. The MFD(Mirror Fixation Device) load specification is generated for the high resolution mirror. The optical WFEs for unit loads are calculated from mirror sensitivity analysis and they are compared with allocated allowable optical WFE. The parasite load for the MFD is calculated from their comparison. The MFD compliant with the parasite load is designed.

  • In this paper, we studied methods that measure chip stack height using slit beam in mold equipment among semiconductor manufacture equipments. We studied two methods to improve chip stack height measurement performance. First, it is relation of camera exposure time and height measurement repeatability. Second we could improve measurement performance applying method of least mean square method for measurement error minimization about PCB(Printed Circuit Board) flexure phenomenon.

Design of All-SiC Lightweight Secondary and Tertiary Mirrors for Use in Spaceborne Telescopes

  • We report on the design of the secondary and the tertiary mirrors used in lightweight assemblies made entirely of silicon carbide (SiC). The essential design points are weight reduction within the acceptable deformation of the mirror surface by gravity release, temperature change, and vibration during or after space launch. To find a design that achieves the target requirements, we established finite element models for various candidate designs and subjected each one to wave front error analyses along gravity directions and in operation temperatures. We also calculated the natural frequencies of the candidate assemblies. Our study suggested that a triangular cell with bipod flexure support can satisfy the target weight within the requirements.

  • The working principle of a satellite camera involves a focusing mechanism for controlling the focus of the optical system, which is essential for proper functioning. However, research on focusing mechanisms of satellite optical systems in Korea is in the beginning stage and developed technology is limited to a thermal control type. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a motor-driven focusing mechanism applicable to small satellite optical systems. The proposed mechanism is designed to generate z-axis displacement in the secondary mirror by a motor. In addition, three flexure hinges have been installed on the supporter for application of preload on the mechanism resulting in minimization of the alignment error arising due to manufacturing tolerance and assembly tolerance within the mechanism. After fabrication of the mechanism, the alignment errors (de-space, de-center, and tilt) were measured with LVDT sensors and laser displacement meters. Conclusively, the proposed focusing mechanism could achieve proper alignment degree, which can be applicable to small satellite optical system.

  • The performance of the precision micro-positioning 4-dof stage is presented. The compact design utilizes the monolithic mechanism to achieve the translation in the Z axis and rotation in the $\theta$ z, $\theta$ x and $\theta$ y axes with high stiffness and high damping. Hysteresis, nonlinearity, and drift of the piezoelectric effects are improved by incorporating the sensors in a feedback control. Experiments demonstrate that the micro-positioning stage is capable of 2nm resolution over the travel range of 25$\mu\textrm$ m in the Z axis, 0.0l7 $\mu\textrm$ rad resolution over the 170$\mu\textrm$ rad in the $\theta$ z and 0.011 $\mu\textrm$ rad resolution over the $\mu\textrm$ rad in the $\theta$ x and $\theta$ y axes. The cross-axis interferences among the axes are at a noise range. This stage is available for positioning error compensation of the XY stage with large stroke.
