This study aims to investigate the flexural behaviour of glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) laminated hybrid fibre reinforced concrete (HFRC) beams. The flexural and ductility performance of GFRP laminated HFRC beams having different proportions of polyolefin and steel fibres with 1.0% of total volume fraction were investigated. The parameters of this investigation included: load and deflection at first crack, yield, and ultimate stages, ductility and crack width. A total of seven beams of $150{\times}250mm$ in cross-section were tested in the laboratory over an effective span of 2800 mm. One reinforced concrete (RC) beam without any internal or external GFRP was taken as the reference beam. Of the remaining six beams, one beam was strengthened with GFRP, one beam with 100% steel fibres was strengthened with GFRP and four beams, each with different volume proportions of polyolefin and steel fibres (20:80, 30:70, 40:60, 50:50) were strengthened with GFRP. All the above beams were tested until failure. The experimental results show that a fibre volume proportion of 40:60 (polyolefin-steel) has significantly improved the overall performance of the tested beams.
This study was conducted to evaluate the structural behaviors of Aramid fiber sheet reinforced slabs. Seven concrete slabs with $45{\times}8.5{\times}200cm$ were made for this experiment one slab with out being reinforced completely loaded until failure and the maximum load was obtained from this test. 70% of the maximum load was applied to 3 Aramid fiber sheet reinforced slabs after cracking and to the rest of 3 Aramid fiber sheet reinforced slabs without loading and cracking. Test results shows that maximum loading flexural rigidity and ductility for the Araimid fiber sheet reinforced slabs after initial cracking are similar as those for the Armied fiber sheet reinforced slabs without loading and cracking.

This study was conducted to investigate the flexural behaviour of sandwich constructions with cement concrete core and polymer concrete facings. Six different cross-sectional shapes using epoxy based polymer concrete facings were investigated. Some of the results from the static tests are given including the load-deflection responses, load-strain relationships, ultimate moment, and mode of failure. From the. results the following conclusions can be made. 1. The various strengths of polymer concrete were very high compared to the strengths for portland cement concrete, while modulus of elasticity assumed an aspect of contrast. 2. The thickness of core and facing exerted a great influence on the deflection and ultimate strenght of polymer concrete sandwich constructions. 3. The variation shape of deflection and strain depend on loading were a very close approximation to the straight line. The ultimate strain of polymer concrete at the end of tensile side were ranged from 625x10-6 to 766x10-6 and these values increased in proportion to the decrease of thickness of core and facings. 4. The ultimate moments of polymer sandwich constructions were 3 to 4 times that of cement concrete constructions which was transformed same section. It should he noted that polymer concrete have an effect on the reinforcement of weak constructions. 5. Further tests are neede to investigate the shear strain of constructions, and thermal expansion, shrinkage and creep of cement and polymer concrete which were composite materials of sandwich constructions.
Eight panel specimens were tested in one-way bending to study the behaviour and capacity of composite slab joists consisting of cold-formed steel C-sections and concrete. Various shear transfer mechanisms were implemented on the C-section flange embedded in the concrete to provide the longitudinal shear resistance. Results showed that all specimens reached serviceability limit state while in elastic range and failure was ductile. Shear transfer achieved for all specimens ranged from 42 to 99% of a full transfer while specimens employed with shear transfer enhancements showed a greater percentage and therefore a higher strength compared with those relying only on surface bond to resist shear. The implementation of pre-drilled holes on the embedded flange of the steel C-section was shown to be most effective. The correlation study between the push-out and panel specimens indicated that the calculated moment capacity based on shear transfer resistance obtained from push-out tests was, on average, 10% lower than the experimental ultimate capacity of the panel specimen.
Among artificial intelligence-based computational techniques, adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems (ANFIS) are particularly suitable for modelling complex systems with known input-output data sets. Such systems can be efficient in modelling non-linear, complex and ambiguous behaviour of cement-based materials undergoing single, dual or multiple damage factors of different forms (chemical, physical and structural). Due to the well-known complexity of sulfate attack on cement-based materials, the current work investigates the use of ANFIS to model the behaviour of a wide range of self-consolidating concrete (SCC) mixture designs under various high-concentration sodium sulfate exposure regimes including full immersion, wetting-drying, partial immersion, freezing-thawing, and cyclic cold-hot conditions with or without sustained flexural loading. Three ANFIS models have been developed to predict the expansion, reduction in elastic dynamic modulus, and starting time of failure of the tested SCC specimens under the various high-concentration sodium sulfate exposure regimes. A fuzzy inference system was also developed to predict the level of aggression of environmental conditions associated with very severe sodium sulfate attack based on temperature, relative humidity and degree of wetting-drying. The results show that predictions of the ANFIS and fuzzy inference systems were rational and accurate, with errors not exceeding 5%. Sensitivity analyses showed that the trends of results given by the models had good agreement with actual experimental results and with thermal, mineralogical and micro-analytical studies.

This study presents a novel method of improving the strength and stiffness of cold-formed steel (CFS) beams. Flexural members are primary members in most of the structures. Hence, there is an urgent need in the CFS industry to look beyond the conventional CFS beam sections and develop novel techniques to address the severe local buckling problems that exist in CFS flexural members. The primary objective of this study was to develop new CFS composite beam sections with improved structural performance and economy. This paper presents an experimental study conducted on different CFS composite beams with simply supported end conditions under four point loading. Material properties and geometric imperfections of the models were measured. The test strengths of the models are compared with the design strengths predicted by using Australian/New Zealand Standard for cold-formed steel structures. Furthermore, to ensure high precision testing, a special testing rig was also developed for testing of long span beams. The description of test models, testing rig features and test results are presented here. For better interpretation of results, a comparison of the test results with a hot rolled section is also presented. The test results have shown that the proposed CFS composite beams are promising both in terms of better structural performance as well as economy.

Steel reinforced Engineered Cementitious Composite (ECC) components have been proposed for seismic structural applications, for example in coupling beams, infill panels, joints, columns, and flexural members. The development of strain in the steel reinforcement of cementitious components has been shown to vary based on both the steel reinforcement ratio and the applied deformation history. Strain in the steel reinforcement of reinforced ECC components is an important structural response metric because ultimate failure is often by fracture of the steel reinforcement. A recently proposed bond-slip model has been successfully calibrated to cyclically tested reinforced ECC beams wherein the deformation history contained monotonically increasing cycles. This paper reports simulations of two-dimensional finite element models of reinforced ECC beams to determine the appropriateness and significance of altering a phenomenological bond-slip model based on the applied deformation history. The numerical simulations with various values of post-peak bond-slip softening stiffness are compared to experimental results. Varying the post-peak bond-slip softening stiffness had little effect on the cracking patterns and hysteretic response of the reinforced ECC flexural models tested, which consisted of two different steel reinforcement ratios subjected to two different deformation histories. Varying the post-peak bond-slip softening stiffness did, however, affect the magnitude of strain and the length of reinforcing bar that strain-hardened. Overall, a numerical model with a constant bond-slip model represented well various responses in reinforced ECC beams with multiple steel reinforcement ratios subjected to different deformation histories.

An experiment was carried out to investigate the mechanical behaviour of the circular hollow section reinforced concrete member with internal corrugated steel tube. A specimen, 50cm in diameter and 340cm in length, was made and tested by 3 points bending. The test load was increased slowly (quasi static) to the failure or unacceptable deformation. During the test, lateral displacement at mid point and longitudinal displacement of extreme fiber on compressive and tensile side of the specimen were measured. The measured data were analysed and compared with calculated results for the equivalent member without inserted corrugated steel tube. The comparison shows that the flexural strength and ductility of hollow section reinforced concrete members can be improved by inserting corrugated steel tubes inside.

The objective of this paper is to investigate and analyze the behaviour of prestressed I section structural members constructed with ultra high perfomance steel fiber reinforced cementitious concrete (SFR-UHPC). This material is known as reactive powder concrete (RPC) mixed with domestic materials and its compressive strength is over 150MP. The parameters of test specimens were span to depth ratio, prestressing force, prestressing wire placement and web width. Most influential parameter to determine the failure mode between shear and flexural action was proved to be shear span ratio. The characteristics of ultra high-strength concrete is basically brittle, but due to the steel fiber reinforcement behaviour of this structure member became ductile after the peak load. As a result of the test, the stress block of compressive zone should be redefined. The proposed analytical calculation of internal force capacity based by plastic analysis gave a good prediction for the shear and flexural strength of specimens. The numerical verification of the finite element model which constitutive law developed for Mode I fracture of fiber reinforced concrete correctly captured the overall behaviour of the specimens tested.

Rehabilitations of reinforced concrete(RC) structures using advanced fibre-reinfored plastic(FRP) composites has become very popular in last few years. Typical method of strengthening strategy using FRP composite is bonding the CFRP plate or sheet on the surface of existing concrete structures. Many researches, however, have shown that bonding FRP plate or sheet on the surface of concrete has tendancy to debond prematurely induced by stress concentrations at the end of the plate. In order for overcoming the premature failure, the filling-up method which places FRP-rod into the existing concrete sawing groove has been developed. Through filling-up test results, aims of this research is to investigate the efficiencies of the filling-up method and is to determine the availabilities of traditional flexural theories that has provided all over the world.
