  • In this study, eleven reinforced concrete beams, ground granulated blast furnace slag, replacing recycled coarse aggregate (BRS series) and recycled coarse aggregate with steel fiber (BSRS series), and standard specimen (BSS) were constructed and tested under monotonic loading. Experimental programs were carried out to improve and evaluate the shear performance of such test specimens, such as the load-displacement, the failure mode and the maximum load carrying capacity. All the specimens were modeled in 1/2 scale-down size. Test results showed that test specimens (BSRS Series) was increased the compressive strength by 9%, the maximum load carrying capacity by 1~6% and the ductility capacity by 1.02~1.13 times in comparison with the standard specimen (BSS). And the specimens (BSRS Series) showed enough ductile behavior and stable flexural failure.

  • The purpose of this study was to Investigate the effects of bent - up bar Within beam - column 1lint core with High - Strength Concrete up to 800kg/$cm^2$. To achieve these objectives, 5 specimens were designed and tested under monotoric loading and reversed cyclic loadings. The primary variables were the number of bent-up bars, compressive strength of concrete and loading patterns. The results showed that the load capacity of specimen subjected to monotonic loading had more large than that of specirnn subjected to reversed cyclic loadings and the bent - up bar within joint core could prevented the crack at the joint face from propagating into the pint core but the failure was concentrated at the face of beam - column pint. Thus the study on flexural strength ratio should be accomplished before using bent - up bars within the joint core.

  • This paper examines the fundamental properties of alkali-activated slag cement (AASC) activated by sodium hydroxide (NaOH). The water to binder (W/B) ratio was 0.4 and 0.5. And concentration of activator were 2M and 4M. Five mix design of each W/B ratios was considered. The N0 mixture was KS L 5109 method and N1~N4 were varied in different mixing time, mix step and entering points of fine aggregate. Test results clearly showed that the flow value, strength and drying shrinkage development of AASC were significantly dependent on the entering point of fine aggregate. The flow value tended to decreases with delaying entering point of fine aggregate. The compressive strength and flexural strength increases with delaying entering point. Moreover, the XRD analysis confirmed that there were sustain these results. The drying shrinkage increases with delaying entering point of fine aggregate. Futhermore, a modified mixing method incorporating all hereby experimentally derived parameters, is proposed to improvement the physical properties of AASC.

  • In order to investigate the structural performance of a novel prefabricated-SRC column using bolt-connected steel angles(PSRC column), eccentric axial loading tests were performed for six PSRC column specimens and two conventional SRC column specimens. The test parameters were the spacing and sectional configurations of lateral reinforcement, and eccentricity ratio of axial load. The test results showed that, due to high axial-stiffness of the angles located at the corners of the cross section, the compressive load-carrying capacity and deformation capacity of the PSRC specimens were greater than those of the SRC specimens in the large eccentricity ratio of axial load. Closely spaced lateral steel plates and Z-shaped lateral steel plates improved lateral confinement, which increased the load-carrying capacity of the PSRC specimens. The combined flexural and axial load-carrying capacity of the specimens by tests and nonlinear numerical analysis were greater than the predictions by current design codes. The numerical analysis agreed well with the test results including the initial stiffness, peak strength, and post-peak strength degradation.

  • In this study, in order to complete curing reaction of the molding compound comprising an epoxy/anhydride at $71^{\circ}C$ for 40 hours, metal coordination complexes such as cobalt (II) acetylacetonate, potassium acetylacetonate, iron (III) acetylacetonate and chromium (III) octoate as a catalyst were applied to the epoxy/anhydride compounds respectively. The weight ratio of an epoxy part/an anhydride part was adjusted to improve the mechanical properties of the molding compound. According to the experimental results, an epoxy/anhydride compound containing chromium (III) octoate showed a high conversion at $71^{\circ}C$ for 40 hours as well as a proper processability at room temperature among the several metal coordination complexes. For the mechanical properties of the cured epoxy/anhydride compound, the compounds containing weight ratio from 0.9/1 to 0.5/1 of the epoxy part/anhydride part with chromium (III) octoate showed the high flexural strength, and higher compressive strength was shown with increasing of the hardener part.

  • It is now established that more than two types of blended aggregate have beneficial effects on quality and supply of concrete in the long run. However, studies on blended aggregate have not widely been progressive and the evaluation method of its most favorable mixture proportion is still needed. Therefore this study investigated the most favorable mixture proportion through the physical experiment of fresh and hardened state's cement mortar, in response to three types of composite ratio, natural fine aggregate(Ns), crushed fine aggregate(Cs) and recycled fine aggregate(Rs). Test showed that increase of blending ratio of Ns and Cs improved fluidity of mot1ar. For the properties of compressive and flexural strength, mortar blending Ns and Cs properly, exhibited similar value to one using only Cs, while mortar mixing Rs showed lower strength value as less as 6% of control one. Mortar using only Rs exhibited the largest drying shrinkage value. In addition, even thought it is not a clear quantitative analysis, technical-imaging-skill presenting the most favorable mixture proportion 3-dimensionally is proposed in this research, in order to notify the proportion easily.

  • Research on high-attenuation concrete for the vibration reduction performance by mixing epoxy-based synthetic resins and aggregates is actively being conducted. The curing time of high-attenuation concrete is very short because water is not used, and the physical and dynamic properties are very excellent. therefore, it is expected to be widely used in building structures requiring reduction of interior-floor noise and vibration. Furthermore, A way to expand the applicability of the high-damping concrete mixed with polymer in the field of reinforcement material have been variously studied. In order to replace polymer concrete with ordirnary concrete and existing anti-vibration reinforcement material, it is necessary to review overall vibration reduction performance considering physical properties, dynamic properties, productivity and field applicability. In this study, the physical and dynamic properties of polymer concrete by epoxy mixing ratio compared with ordirnary concrete. As a result, the elastic modulus was similar. On the other hand, polymer concrete for the compressive, tensile, and flexural strengths was quite more excellent. In particular, the measured tensile strength of polymer concrete was 4-10 times higher than that of ordirnary concrete. it was a big difference, and the frequency response function and damping ratio was studied through modal test and finite element analysis model. The dynamic stiffness of polymer concrete was 20% greater than that of ordirnary concrete, and the damping ratio of polymer concrete was approximately 3 times more than that of ordirnary concrete.

  • Current standard code for R.C. design consists of two conventional design parts, so called WSD and USD, which are based on ACI 318-63 and 318-71 code provisions. The safety factors of our WSD and USD design criteria which are taken primarily from ACI 318-63 code are considered to be not appropriate compared to out country's design and construction practices. Furthermore, even the ACI safety factors are not determined from probabilistic study but merely from experiences and practices. This study investigates the safety level of R.C. flexural members designed by the current WSD safety provisions based on Second Moment Reliability theory, and proposes a rational but efficient way of determining the nominal safety factors and the associated flexural allowable stresses of steel bars and concretes in order to provide a consistent level of target reliability. Cornell's Mean First-Order Second Moment Method formulae by a log normal transformation of resistance and load output variables are adopted as the reliability analysis method for this study. The compressive allowable stress formulae are derived by a unique approach in which the balanced steel ratios of the resulting design are chosen to be the corresponding under-reinforced sections designed by strength design method with an optimum reinforcing ratio. The target reliability index for the safety provisions are considered to be ${\beta}=4$ that is well suited for our level of construction and design practices. From a series of numerical applications to investigate the safety and reliability of R.C. flexural members designed by current WSD code, it has been found that the design based on WSD provision results in uneconomical design because of unusual and inconsistent reliability. A rational set of reliability based safety factors and allowable stress of steel bars and concrete for flexural members is proposed by providing the appropriate target reliability ${\beta}=4$.

  • There are various methods of finishing concrete surfaces, and when considering workability, the spray method is effective, but rebound occurs. The allocation of rebound occurrence control should be adjusted according to the materials used. Thus, a basic study was conducted on multiple techniques for reducing the rebound incidence that are suitable for surface finishing materials containing a photocatalyst. A prior study derived the reduction effect and optimal mix ratio for photocatalytic performance. Based on that study, the rebound reduction was verified according to the specifications of the content and the mechanical durability characteristics of the mixed materials. Rebound, compressive strength, flexural rigidity, and table flow tests were done. The flow was fixed at 170±10 mm considering the workability of the mortar spray equipment. For the experimental variables, the rebound number was adjusted to the silica sand variables relative to the cement weight, and silica sands No. 5 and No. 7 were used. The results show the highest compression strength in the final S-1 variable, and the amount of rebound was minimized. These results were sufficiently filled with the bindings of the silica pores, which increased the binding force between the aggregates, resulting in a lower amount of rebound.

  • Spherical atomizing reduction steel slag was prepared by atomizing technology using reduction steel slag (ladle furnace slag, LFS) generated from steel industry. In order to develop the mass-recycling technology of atomizing reduction steel slag, polymer concrete composite was prepared using spherical atomizing reduction steel slag instead of fine aggregate (river sand) and coarse aggregate (crushed aggregate), depending on the grain size. Different polymer concrete specimens were prepared with the various proportions of polymer binder and replacement ratios of atomizing reduction steel slag in order to investigate the characteristics of polymer concrete composite. Results showed that compressive strengths of polymer concrete specimens decreased with the increase of replacement ratios of atomizing reduction steel slag, but flexural strengths of the specimens showed a maximum strength at the 50% of replacement ratios of atomizing reduction steel slag. It was concluded that addition ratio of polymer binder, which affect greatly on the prime cost of production of polymer concrete, could be reduced by maximum 18.2 vol% because the workability of the polymer concrete was remarkably improved by using the atomizing reduction steel slag. However, further study is required because the mechanical strength of the specimen using atomizing reduction steel slag was greatly reduced in hot water resistance test.
