  • We have investigated printing techniques for processing organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). We succeeded to gravure print uniform organic thin films as well as screen print low work function cathode for OLED structure. Furthermore, by using roll-to-roll manufacturing methods, we have been able to fabricate all-printed flexible OLED demonstrator.

Research and development of Hyundai FFVs(flexible fuel vehicles) (현대 FFV(Flexible Fuel Vehicle) 개발)

  • This paper describes Hyundai's research and development work on a flexible fuel vehicle (FFV). The work on FFV has been conducted to evaluate its potential as an alternative to the conventional gasoline vehicle. Hyundai FFV described here can be operated on M85, gasoline, or any of their combinations, in which the methanol concentration is measured by an electrostatic type fuel sensor. For that operation, a special FFV ECU(Eletronic Control Unit) has been developed and incorporated in the FFV. The characteristics affecting FFV operation, such as FFV ECU control strategy and injector flow rate, have been investigated and optimized through the experiment. And various development tests have been performed in view of engine performance, durability, cold startability, and exhaust emissions reduction. The exhaust gas aftertreatment system consisting of manifold type catalyst and secondary air injection system shows good emission reduction performance including formaldehyde, and finally, the possibility of the FFVs as the low emission vehicles is evaluated by presenting NMOG(Non-Methane Organic Gases) levels with respect to M0 and M85. With these results, it is concluded that FFV can be a candidate for the low emission vehicles, but more works on its durability improvement is required.

Characteristics of phosphorescent OLEDs and flexible OLED fabricated indium-zinc-tin-oxide anode (IZTO 애노드를 이용하여 제작한 인광 OLED 및 플랙시블 OLED 특성)

  • In this work, we have investigated the characteristics of the phosphorescent OLED and flexible OLED fabricated on IZTO/glass and IZTO/PET anode film grown by magnetron sputtering, respectively. Electrical and optical characteristics of amorphous IZTO/glass anode exhibited similar to commercial ITO anode even though it was deposited at room temperature. In addition, the amorphous IZTO anode showed higher work function than that of the commercial ITO anode after ozone treatment for 10 minutes. Furthermore, a phosphorescent OLED fabricated on amorphous IZTO anode film showed improved current-voltage-luminance characteristics, external quantum efficiency and power efficiency in contrast with phosphorescent OLED fabricated on commercial ITO anode film. This indicates that IZTO anode is promising alternative anode materials for anode in OLEDs and flexible OLEDs.

  • With the development of Information Communication Technology and a way of solving problems such as productivity improvement, advanced working attitude, greenhouse gas reduction, low birth rate, aged problem, etc., the need of smart work is increasing. Getting out of legacy working types that are limited in time and space, the flexible seat system at a smart work center that supports the smart working environment is proposed. However, the seat choice based on employee's emotional judgement may cause the decline of forming cooperative space and mutual communication because of the scattered seat arrangement between employees. This paper proposed a seat recommendation method for the mutual cooperation at a smart work center. The method is based on a work similarity of employees. A prototype system also implemented to show the feasibility.

  • The concept of district heating involves centralised heat production where heat is distributed to consumer via a piping network. The objective of this work is to identify the Flexible Pipe from an economy, execution, maintenance point of view. Flexible Pipe has in some countries, especially in Europe, been used for many years in district heating. In spite of years of experience, there still exist doubts about the possibilities of using flexible pipes in district heating applications, mostly because of no experiences in domestic market. The advantage of flexible pipe systems is their flexibility. This holds not only for the inner pipe but also for the total pipe system including insulation and jacket. Even for the largest diameter the minimum radius of curvature is given to 1.5m. The most important difference between flexible pipe systems and preinsulated steel pipes is their simple and quick assembly. Such information could provide a basis for making reasonable hypotheses about consumer preferences, to foam a basis for making future marketing more effective.

  • The flexibility of the manipulator inevitably inducess the vibration at the end effector. For the increase in speed and accuracy at the end tip, in this work, position and vibration control of a flexible manipuator with a separate voice coil type actrator for vibration suppression, is studied. The flexible manipulator with a tip mass is modeled an Euler-Bernoulli beam. An H.inf. controller is designed in order to make the controlled system robust against unmodeled higher-order mode vibration of the manipulator, output sensor noise, and etc. Simulations and experiments show that the modeling of the system is valid and that robust vibration control of the flexible manipulator is efficiently achieved.

  • Flexible CIGS thin film solar cell was fabricated using STS430 plate as a flexible substrate in this work. A diffusion barrier layer of $SiO_2$ thin film was deposited on STS430 substrate by PECVD followed by deposition of double layered Mo back contact. After depositing CIGS absorber layer by co-evaporation, CdS buffer layer by chemical bath deposition, ZnO window layer by RF sputtering and Al electrode by thermal evaporation, the solar cell fabrication processes were completed and its performance was evaluated. Corresponding solar cell showed an conversion efficiency of 8.35 % with $V_{OC}$ of 0.52 V, $J_{SC}$ of 26.06 mA/$cm^2$ and FF of 0.61.

  • In this paper, we prpose a method for tracking optimally a spatial trajectory of the end-effector of flexible robot arms with multiple joints. The proposed method finds joint trajectories and joint torques necessary to produce the desired end-effector motion of flexible manipulator. In inverse kinematics, optimized joint trajectories are computed from elastic equations. In inverse dynamics, joint torques are obtained from the joint euqations by using the optimized joint trajectories. The equations of motion using finite element method and virtual work principle are employed. Optimal control is applied to optimize joint trajectories which are computed in inverse kinematics. The simulation result of a flexible planar manipulator is presented.

  • Research interest on flexible body dynamics, has been increased recently. The major application areas are the auto-mobile, train, and heavy machinery. This paper attempted the dynamic analysis for the variable-gauge wheelset with a flexible body, to better understand the dynamic characteristics of the variable-gauge wheelset. In order to achieve this goal, a 3D-Virtual Mock-up model was built. The tendency of the stress and deformation for the flexible lever was investigated through component mode synthesis, contact mechanics and flexible body dynamics. This study is a pioneering work for the development of Korean type variable-gauge wheelset.

  • In a flexible airvehicle, an assessment of the structural coupling levels through analysis and experiments provides structural data for the design of notch filters which are generally utilized in the flight control system to attenuate the flexible response pickup. This is necessitated as during flight, closed loop control actuation driven with flexible response inputs could lead to stability and performance related problems. In the present work, critical parameters influencing servoelastic response have been identified. A sensitivity study has been carried out to assess the extent of influence of each parameter. A multi-parameter tuning approach has been implemented to achieve an enhanced analytical model for improved predictions of aircraft servoelastic response. To illustrate the model updation approach, initial and improved test analysis correlation of lateral servoelastic responses for a generic flexible airvehicle are presented.
