Wireless communication technology has mainly been used to fulfill the demands of industrial sites at which performance is not a critical concern. However, ongoing discussions and efforts are now focused on securing core wireless communication technologies to enable the transformation or expansion of wired industrial IoT (Internet of Things) network technology into a flexible and dynamic smart manufacturing system. This paper provides an overview of current wireless industrial IoT network technology and the recent wireless time-sensitive networking technology. It outlines the challenging level of reliability required for wireless communication technology to coexist with or replace its wired counterpart in future smart manufacturing systems. Additionally, we introduce ultra-reliable time deterministic network as the core technology of wireless industrial communications and focus on its reliability and delay characteristics.
Free-form blades are widely used in different industries, such as aero-engine and steam turbine. Blades that are damaged during service or have production deficiencies are usually replaced with new ones. This leads to the waste of expensive material and is not sustainable. However, material and costs can be saved by repairing of locally damaged blades or blades with localized production deficiencies. The blade needs to be further machined after welding process to reach the aerodynamic performance requirements. This paper outlines an adaptive location approach of repaired blade for model reconstruction and NC machining. Firstly, a mathematical model is established to describe the localization problem under constraints. Secondly, by solving the mathematical model, localization of repaired blade for NC machining can be obtained. Furthermore, a more flexible method based on the proposed mathematical model and the continuity of the deformation process is developed to realize a better localization. Thirdly, by rebuilding the model of the repaired blade and extracting repair error, optimized tool paths for NC machining is generated adaptively for each individual part. Finally, three examples are given to validate the proposed method.
In this paper, image processing algorithm is studied to enhance the preciseness of the geometry while converting captured images to CAD data. A program is developed as a result. The code, in the image processing, utilizes outline trace, point data smoothing algorithm. It is capable of automatically generating design data by converting input image data to the CAD data. The output can be made in DXF, IGES formats. The current research can be utilized as a base data for the development of factory automation or flexible manufacturing system which adopt image processing based automatic inspection and measuring system.
The dynamic simulation of machine tools and motion control systems has been widely used for optimization, design verification, control design, etc. There are three main streams in dynamic simulation: structural dynamic analysis based onthe finite element method, dynamic motion analysis based on equations of motion, and control system analysis based on transfer functions. Generally, one of these dynamic simulation methods is chosen and employed for specific purposes. In this study, an integrated dynamic simulation is introduced, in which the structure, motion, and control dynamics are combined together. Commercially well-known software is used in the integrated dynamic simulation: ANSYS, ADAMS, and Matlab/Simulink. Using the integrated dynamic simulation, the dynamics of a magnetic bearing stage is analyzed and the causes of oscillation and noise are identified. A controller design for suppressing a flexible dynamic mode is carried out and verified through the integrated dynamic simulation.
In this paper, the image processing for flexible disk grinding and the effect of the grinding conditions on the flat zone length of a workpiece are investigated, with the purpose of automating the grinding process. To accomplish this, three issues should be carefully studied. The first is finding the relationship between the flat zone length and the grinding conditions such as the cutting speed and feeding speed. The second is developing a neural network algorithm to predict the flat zone. The third is developing an image processing algorithm to measure the flat zone length of a workpiece. Slope analysis is used to determine straight and curved sections during the image processing. For verification, the estimated length and the length from the image processing are compared with the length measured by a projector. There is a minimum difference of 1.7% between the predicted and measured values. The results of this paper will be useful in compiling a database for process automation.
We have developed a compact desktop-sized nanopatterning system driven by the Roll-to-Roll (R2R) nanoimprinting (NIL) principle. The system realizes the continuous and high-speed stamping of various nanoscale patterns on a large-area flexible substrate without resorting to ponderous and complicated instruments. We first lay out the process principle based on continuous NIL on a UV-curable resin layer using a flexible nanopatterned mold. We then create conceptual and specific designs for the system by focusing on two key processes, imprinting and UV curing, which are performed in a continuous R2R fashion. We build a system with essential components and optimized modules for imprinting, UV curing, and R2R conveying to enable simple but effective nanopatterning within the desktop volume. Finally, we demonstrate several nanopatterning results such as nanolines and nanodots, which are obtained by operating the built desktop R2R NIL system on transparent and flexible substrates. Our system may be further utilized in the scalable fabrication of diverse flexible nanopatterns for many functional applications in optics, photonics, sensors, and energy harvesters.
The goals of this study are to suggest the guidance for automated clothing manufacture by analysis the technology of the automated manufacturing facilities and to propose how improve the efficiency of the production planning and management for automated clothing manufacture In this study, the research about the automated clothing manufacturing machines and the analysis about the modules and functions of apparel information systems were performed. In order to understand the factory automation of the larger clothing firms, the case study method was used. The case study samples were 3 clothing firms. The results and suggestions are as follows: 1. An information technology for automated clothing manufacture has enabled the computer integrated manufacturing system to connect production planning and management part with each work station on the factory floor. 2. The apparel information system to integrate and manage manufacturing informations from each workstation and the apparel CAD system are used in the department of production planning. At the cutting room, there are automated manufacturing machines like an automatic spreading system and an automatic cutting system. Sewing room has the computer controlled unit production system and semi-automated sewing machines. In addition, in the finishing room, an automatic packing machine and a press system are used and besides a warehousing system has been developed. Considering these available technology, for better product efficiency, it is necessary to consider and utilize the specific character of these automatic manufacturing machines and computer system whether they proper to each product style. 3. Most of the clothing manufacturers are in the stage of semi-automated manufacture. In order to improve the manufacturing environment, it is needed to gradual procedure of manufacturing automation with considering the firm's financial condition, existing facilities and staffs operating machines. The case study sample firms are in the high degree of manufacturing automation. They can accomplish the flexible manufacturing system to link the information system with each work station menufacturing system by computerized control. For the case of the firm having already used the computer integrated manufacturing and managing system, it is necessary that the function to deal with drawing information is added to the retaining module of the apparel system.
Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have been widely investigated as a next generation solar cell because of their simple structure and low manufacturing cost. To realize a commercially competitive technology of DSSCs, it is imperative to employ a technique to prepare nanocrystlline thin film on the flexible organic substrate, aiming at increasing the flexibility and reducing the weight as well as the overall device thickness of DSSCs. The key operation of glass-to-plastic substrates conversion is to prepare mesoporous TiO2 thin film at low temperature with a high surface area for dye adsorption and a high degree of crystallinity for fast transport of electrons. However, the electron transport in the TiO2 film synthesized at low temperature is very poor. So, in this study, TiO2 films synthesized at high temperature were transferred on the selective substrate. We fabricated DSSCs at low temperature using this method. So, we confirmed that the performance of DSSCs using TiO2 films synthesized at high temperature was improved.

This paper investigates vibrational motion of a flexible beam fixed on a moving cart and carrying a moving mass. The equations of motion of the beam-mass-cart system are analysed through the unconstrained modal analysis. The exact normal mode solution used in modal analysis correspond to the eigenfrequencies for each position of the moving mass and to the ratios of the weight of the beam-mass-car system. Time solutions of normal modes are also transformed properly according to the position of the moving mass. Numerical simulations are carried out to obtain open-loop responses of the system in tracking pre-designed paths of the moving mass. The simulation results show that the model predicts the dynamic behavior of the beam-mass-cart system well. Experiments are carried out to show the validity of the proposed analytical method.
This study provides a comprehensive experimental study on the dynamic characteristics of a flexible matrix composite(FMC) driveshaft. A primary objective is to verify the analytic results of the FMC drivetrain based on the equivalent complex modulus approach and the classical lamination theory. A test rig has been constructed, which consists of a FMC shaft, a foundation beam, bearings, external dampers and a driving motor. The frequency response functions and transient responses are obtained from the external excitation and the spin-up testings. It turns out that the analytic results are in good agreement with the experimental ones.
