This study aimed to understand the mode characteristics of a droplet subject to periodic forced vibration and the detachment of a droplet placed on a plate surface. An surface was coated with Teflon to clearly observe the behavior of a droplet. The contact angle between the droplet and surface and the hysteresis were found to be approximately $115^{\circ}C$ and within $25^{\circ}C$, respectively. The coating process was performed in a clean room that had an environment with a low level of contaminants and impurities such as air dust, detergents, and particles. To predict the resonance frequency of a droplet, theoretical and experimental approaches were applied. Two high-speed cameras were configured to acquire side and top views and thus capture different characteristics of a droplet: the mode shape, the detachment, the separated secondary droplet, and the waggling motion. A comparison of the theoretical and experimental results shows no more than 18 discrepancies when predicting the resonance frequency. These differences seem to be caused by contact line friction, nonlinear wall adhesion, and the uncertainty of the experiment. For lower energy inputs, the contact line of the droplet was pinned and the oscillation pattern was axisymmetric. However, the contact line of the droplet was de-pinned as the oscillation became more vigorous with increased energy input. The size of each lobe at the resonance frequency is somewhat larger than that at the neighboring frequency. A droplet in mode 2, one of the primary mode frequencies, exhibits vertical periodic movement as well as detachment and secondary ejection from the main droplet.

Purpose: Treatment of diabetic foot infection due to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) remains challenging. Applying vancomycin-impregnated cement is one of the best methods of treatment. Vancomycin-impregnated cement has been used worldwide; however, to date, there is a limited number of studies regarding its use. We evaluated the duration of antimicrobial activity of vancomycin-impregnated cement stored at room temperature after manufacturing. Materials and Methods: The vancomycin-impregnated cement was manufactured by mixing 1 g of vancomycin with 40 g of polymer and adding 17.90 g of liquid monomer. The cement dough was shaped into flat cylinders with diameter and height of 6 mm and 2 mm, respectively. Another cement of the same shape without mixing vancomycin was prepared as the negative control. All manufactured cements were sterilized with ethylene oxide gas and stored at room temperature. Each cement was placed on Mueller Hinton agar plate lawned with standard MRSA strain. Standard vancomycin disk and gentamicin disk were placed together. After 24 hours, the diameter of inhibition zone was measured, and if the diameter was less than 15 mm, vancomycin-impregnated cement was regarded as a loss of antimicrobial activity. The study was repeated every 2 weeks until vancomycin-impregnated cements lost their antimicrobial activity. Results: Vancomycin-impregnated cement stored for a duration of 16 weeks created a 14 mm inhibition zone, while vancomycin disk created a 15 mm inhibition zone. Vancomycin-impregnated cement stored for a duration of 17 weeks created 7 mm and 9 mm inhibition zones, while vancomycin disk created 16 mm and 15 mm inhibition zones, respectively. Conclusion: We found a decrease of antimicrobial activity in vancomycin-impregnated cements after 16 weeks. After 17 weeks, they showed definite loss of antimicrobial activity. Therefore, we recommend not using vancomycin-impregnated cement spacers that has been stored for more than 16 weeks at room temperature.

A painful pseudoarthrosis will develop due to a delay in diagnosis and treatment, and surgical care is required. Treatment of pseudoarthrosis is really difficult because the acromion is a thin flat bone that is difficult to be fixed firmly. A 52-year-old woman with multiple trauma had an acromial fracture that was not detected until it had caused pain after ambulation. Open reduction and internal fixation with a variable angle locking compression plate for distal radius and autogenous iliac bone graft were performed. At nine months after the operation, there was partial tear in the supraspinatus tendon, and arthroscopic repair of the supraspinatus tendon was performed. At nine months after the operation, radiographs showed a complete union. At three months after tendon repair, the patient had excellent function of the shoulder. We have reported a case of a successful treatment of nonunion and pseudoarthrosis of acromial fracture that is difficult to be fixed.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the proper consistency of root canal sealer needed in obtaining an efficient canal obturation in injection-thermoplasticized low-temperature ($70^{\circ}C$) gutta-percha method. The sealer was made by incorporating zinc oxide powder into $0.5m{\ell}$ of eugenol and then the $0.5m{\ell}$ of mixture slurry was placed between two flat glass plates. The consistency was determined by measuring the degree of spread of the slurry at loading the 120gm of weight from the top plate. The sealer was prepared according to P/L ratio corresponding to the acquired consistency of 65.45mm, 46.80mm, 28.95mm and 22.60mm. The distal roots were obtained by cutting off from 125 extracted human lower molars and the root canals were prepared by using step-back method. The prepared canals were coated with the sealers on their walls and obturated by using the injection-thermoplasticized low-temperature ($70^{\circ}C$) gutta-percha method. All specimens were immersed in 2% methylene blue dye solution for 48 hours at $37^{\circ}C$. Calipers was used to measured the dye penetration into the root canals from apical constrictions. The results were as follows : The canals obturated without sealer showed significantly more leakage than the canals obturated with sealer. Within the consistency from 65.45mm to 22.60mm, the sealer of 65.45mm appeared significantly better than that of 28.95mm and 22.60mm in the canals obturated by injection-thermoplasticized gutta-percha method, and better than that of 46.80mm without statistical significance.

As the bearing wall structure, which has been widely applied to domestic apartment buildings since the 1980s, cause many problems during remodeling of buildings, the government encourages constructors to adopt flat plate or rahmen structure through legal incentives. In line with such a trend, the green frame, an eco-friendly rahmen structure that has removed the shortcomings of previous structures, was developed to enhance structural safety, constructability, and eco-friendliness. The construction of green frame can reduce the labor cost and facilitate the composition of iron bars to reduce rebar loss through calculating the quality and establishing the bar bending schedule automatically on the precast concrete member data collected over the design phase. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to develop the algorithm to automate the calculation of iron bar volume for the green frame designed on composite precast concrete members. Automated algorithm to calculate concrete structural design information and design information. Practices through the application site should prove efficacy. The database established by the developed algorithm will automate the establishment of iron bar processing map and bar cutting list and the calculation of optimal composition and order volume to minimize the rebar loss. This will also reduce the expenses on management staff and overall construction cost through the minimization of rebar loss.
A marine bacterial strain producing agar-degrading enzymes was isolated from a mud flat in Jeboo-do (Korea) using a selective artificial sea water (ASW) agar plate containing agar as the sole carbon source. The isolate, designated as SH-1, was gram-negative, aerobic, and motile with single polar flagellum. 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity analysis showed the isolate SH-1 had the highest homology (96.5%) to marine bacterium Neiella marina J221. Cells could grow at $28-37^{\circ}C$ but not at $42^{\circ}C$, and the agarase activity of the cell culture supernatant was higher when grown at $28^{\circ}C$ than when grown at $37^{\circ}C$. Cells could grow when concentrations of 1-5% (w/v) NaCl were added to the growth media with the best growth observed at 3% NaCl, and the agardegrading enzyme activity of the cell culture supernatant was best when grown at 3% NaCl-containing growth media under the conditions we examined. The crude enzyme prepared from 48-h culture broth of strain SH-1 exhibited an optimum pH and temperature for agar-degrading activity at 7.0 and $40^{\circ}C$, respectively. Zymogram analysis of the crude supernatant and cell extract showed that strain SH-1 produced at least 3 agar-degrading enzymes with molecular weights of 15, 35, and 52 KD. Thinlayer chromatography (TLC) analysis also suggested that HS-1 produces ${\beta}$-agarase to degrade agarose to neoagarooligosaccharides.

Large eddy simulations of transitional flows around a stud installed on a flat plate have been performed to investigate an influence of grid resolution on turbulence stimulation by the stud. Because streamwise vortical structures generated by the stud played an important role in turbulence stimulation of boundary layer, streamwise vorticity was compared in the wake region behind the stud when the number of grids increased or decreased by a ratio of ${\sqrt{2}}$ in streamwise, wall-normal and spanwise directions respectively. The streamwise vorticity was shown to be mainly affected by spanwise grid resolution (${\Delta}z^+$) rather than streamwise and wall-normal grid resolution. In a viewpoint of numerical efficiency as well as physical resolution, ${\Delta}x^+{_{min}}=7.6$, ${\Delta}x^+{_{max}}=41$, ${\Delta}y^+{_{wall}}=0.25$ and ${\Delta}z^+=7.6$ was found to be desirable. Once a grid resolution was determined in each direction, a grid verification was carried out by increasing or decreasing the grid resolution y a ratio of ${\sqrt{2}}$ in all directions. The grid uncertainties of pressure and drag coefficients were 21.6 % and 2.8 % while the corrected uncertainties were 2 % and 0.3 %, respectively.
The GR51PP(MWCO 50,000) and GR40PP(MWCO 100,000) membranes manufactured by DDS were used in ultrafiltration of dextran(Mw. : 500,000) solution in flat plate ultrafiltration cell filled with various types of turbulence promoters. The flux improvement by using turbulence promoter was higher in laminar flow region than in turbulent flow region. The maximum improvements of permeate flux were foud as 112% and 50% I laminar flow region and turbulent flow region, respectively. Also, the solute rejection of the ultrafiltration membrane was improved by turbulence promoters and its effect was significant in the high transmembrane pressure and laminar flow region. The smaller the spacer mesh size was used, the higher the flux improved, but the pressure drop in ultrafiltration cell also increased. In laminar flow region, pressure drop by the spacer was negligible, but in turbulent flow region it changed significantly depending upon the mesh size of the spacer and therefore, its mesh size must be baken into account in the design of the process. The predicted results of the modified mass transfer correlation had better agreement with experimental results than those of unmodified one, The modified mass transfer correlations for laminar and turbulent flow region are shown as follow. $N_{sh}=0.151(N_{Re})^{0.199}(N_{Sc})^{0.22}(N_{Scm})^{0.197}\;(625$N_{sh}=0.0165(N_{Re})^{0.428}(N_{Sc})^{0.33}(N_{Scm})^{0.223}\;(5015
Core/shell structured composite metal oxides of Fe2O3/MgO were prepared by thermal decomposition of Fe(acac)3 adsorbed on the surface of MgO cores. The morphology of the composites conformed to that of the MgO used as the cores. Broad powder X-ray diffraction peaks shifted toward larger d, large BET surface area (∼350 m2/g), and the size of crystalline domains in nano range (4 nm), all corroborate to the nanocrystallinity of the Fe2O3/MgO composite which was prepared by using nanocrystalline MgO as the core. By use of microcrystalline MgO as the core, microcrystalline Fe2O3/MgO composite was prepared, and it had small BET surface area of less than 35 m2/g. AFM measurements on nanocrystalline Fe2O3/MgO showed a collection of spherical aggregates (∼80 nm dia) with a very rough surface. On the contrary, microcrystalline Fe2O3/MgO was a collection of plate-like flat crystallites with a smooth surface. The nitrogen adsorption-desorption behavior indicated that microcrystalline Fe2O3/MgO was nonporous, whereas nanocrystalline Fe2O3/MgO was mesoporous. Bimodal distribution of the pore size became unimodal as the layer of Fe2O3 was applied to nanocrystalline MgO. The macropores in a wide distribution which the nanocrystalline MgO had were absent in the nanocrystalline Fe2O3/MgO. The decomposition of CCl4 was largily enhanced by the overlayer of Fe2O3 on nanocrystalline MgO making the reaction between nanocrystalline Fe2O3/MgO and CCl4 be nearly stoichiometric. The reaction products were environmentally benign MgCl2 and CO2. Such an enhancement was not attainable with the microcrystalline samples. Even for the nanocrystalline MgO, the enhancement was not attained, if not with the Fe2O3 layer. Without the layer of Fe2O3, it was observed that the nanocrystalline domain of the MgO transformed into microcrystalline one as the decomposition of CCl4 proceeded on its surface. It appeared that the layer of Fe2O3 on the particles of nanocrystalline Fe2O3/MgO blocked the transformation of the nanocrystalline domain into microcrystalline one. Therefore, in order to attain stoichiometric reaction between CCl4 and Fe2O3/MgO core/shell structured composite metal oxide, the morphology of the core MgO has to be nanocrystalline, and also the nanocrystalline domains has to be sustained until the core was exhausted into MgCl2.

Solar energy is one of the most abundant renewable energy sources on Earth but there are restrictions on the use of solar thermal energy due to the time-discrepancy between the solar-rich season and heating demand. In Europe and Canada, a seasonal solar thermal energy storage (SSTES), which stores the abundant solar heat in the summer and uses the heat for the winter heating load, is used. Recently, SSTES has been introduced in Korea and empirical studies are actively underway. In this study, a $2,000m^2$ flat plate type solar collector and $20,000m^2$ of borehole thermal energy storage (BTES) were studied for a greenhouse in Hwaseong City, which has a heating load of 2,164 GJ/year. To predict the dynamic performance of the system over time, it was simulated using the TRNSYS 18 program, and the solar fraction of the system with the control conditions was investigated. As a result, the solar BTES system proposed in this study showed an average solar fraction of approximately 60% for 5 years when differential temperature control was applied to both collecting solar thermal energy and discharging BTES. The proposed system simplified the configuration and control method of the solar BTES system and secured its performance.
