  • The ancient ancestors of Korea believed that the five directions of east, west, south, and north were important, and that there was a god in charge of each of the five directions, and that he was in charge of the universe, nature, and life. In Korea, the traditional colors follow the Yin and Yang Five Ceremony. The five elements were placed in the bearings symbolized by wood, fire, earth, iron, and water, namely east, south, center, west, and north, and the symbolic colors were called blue, red, yellow, white, and black according to their connotations. These colors should be the five element colors. In studying the colors of the five elements, this researcher found that the five element colors were inconsistent in each of the existing studies. Therefore, the characteristics of the Yin and Yang Five Elements were carefully examined, and the Five Element Colors pursued by the ancestors were identified, and the Five Element Colors were defined to fit the present era. According to modern color standards, the three primary colors of color, cyan, magenta yellow, and the five colors of pure black and pure white, can be said to be the colors that most correspond to the Yin and Yang Five Symbols.

  • This study is concerned with the jang il ( 日). The purpose of this study was to trace the origin of jang il and to identify forms and the meaning of it. Significant findings and results of this research can be summerized as follows : It was found that jang il was a kind of brimmed hat with a round crown. People of Han Dynasty period wore jang il. It was favored by the people of Wei Chin (魏晉) Dynasty period of China and was a very popular hat in these periods. It was used by farmers and merchants. It was found that jang il was worn by a tribe of Kang(羌) in prehistorical period. It is considered that jang il of the Chinese, was derived from the people of Kang(羌). In the Tang and Five Dynasty periods women also wore jang il. Women from the upper class appeared used jang il. It appeared that Koguryoreans also used jang il : it was a kind of black wide brimmed hat with a round crown. which can be found in the tomb paintings of Yong Kang(龍崗). A horse rider wears jang il.

  • The reaction of [(2-N,N-dimethylaminomethyl) pheny] methylvinychlorosiane with t-BuLi in hexane solvent gave dimers, five isomeric 1,3-disilacyslobutanes which were weparated and charaterized. In trapping experiments with various trapping agents, no corresponding silene-trapping aduct was observed. We suggest that more important species for the formation of five isomeric dimers might be the zwitterionic species generated by virtue of intramolecular donor atom rather than the silene.

  • In Jang-Sang theory, ‘Sang’ indicates ‘Hyung Sang’. The internal organs appear it's shapes(Hyung Sang) outward. ‘Hyung Sang’ is concept that was used on 「the book of changes」(周易) and 「Nei Ching」(內經) to means a thing's shapes and conditions. ‘Hyung’ is the shape, an organization composing a thing and ‘Sang’ is the symptom, an essence(a seed) immanenting a thing. To observe Hyung Sang, it have to apply the principle that ‘the sky and man correspond each other(天人相應)’. Usually ‘Hyung’ appears as shapes and ‘Sang’ appears as colors and conditions. Diagnosis on the basis of Hyung Sang put first the external expression of the five Jang six Bu organs and Jung-Ki-Shin-Hyul(精氣神血). So a doctor has to unite shapes, colors, pulse and symptoms(形, 色, 脈, 症) when diagnosis a patient. The theory of Hyung Sang includes the basic theories of the oriental medicine, the theory for Yin-Yang and the five element(陰陽五行論), organ picture(Jang-Sang), meridians(經絡學說), the five circuit phases and the six atmospheric influences(運氣學說), physical constitution(體質學說). I think that treatment based on Hyung Sang is shown the essence of the oriental medicine well. In the future, I think, we need to study more about the theory of Hyung Sang.

  • From the consideration of stages and their origins assigned to the five elements by connecting O-Shin(五神) with the five organs, centered on former documents, following were achieved. 1. From the age of civil wars, the mind has been connected to the part icular organ among the five organs : the has been considered as the main body of mind activity and the central organ which controls eve ry organ. 2. KWAN-JA(管子) and JANG-JA(莊子) wrote firstly written in connection between the mind and the whole five organs. 3. O-SHIN(五神) were materialized through the middle part and last year of Former China and after the five organs assignment of the natur e and the emotions. 4. O-SHIN(五神) orignated from HWANG-JE NAE-KYUNNG(黃帝內經) assigned as the liver soul, the heart spirit, the spleen ideas, the lung inferior spirit, and the kidney will.

  • Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on Five Phase theory that link Liver, Heart, Spleen, Lung, Kidney to Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water respectively. Recently, some argue that this correspondence scheme had been established by political or socio-humane issues in early Eastern Han dynasty. But according to our analysis on Changgongyeoljeon(in Sagi), it has been revealed that this scheme had their own history from early Western Han dynasty. So we may conclude that people with medical profession had preserved the current correspondence scheme in Five Phase theory regardless trends of literature and politics in Western and Eastern Han dynasty.

  • This paper introduced the new calibration algorithm of a straight-type five-hole pressure probe necessary for calculating three-dimensional flow velocity components. The new velocity data reduction method using both a commercial two-dimensional curve-fitting program and the zone partition method of a calibration map was firstly introduced in this study. This new calibration method can be applied up to the wide flow angle of ${\pm}80^{\circ}$ despite of using a five-hole pressure probe because this data reduction method showed a comparatively good performance in calculating yaw and pitch angles from the calibration map.

  • The present study was designed to investigate whether traditional Korean fermented soybean paste(doen-jang) and soybean extracts have inhibitory effects on the growth of KB cell, an oral epithelioid cancer cell. When KB cell ATCC CCL-17 was cultivated for 48 flours with the addition of 0.5% of the five types or doen-jang extract, the growth of KB cell was inhibited by all types of extract, and ethyl acetate extract showed the highest inhibitory effect. In case of soybean extract, all types of extract also showed KB cell inhibitory effects, however, generally less than those of doen-jang extract. When ethyl acetate extract of doen-jang was added in different concentrations and KB cell was cultivated for 24 hours and 45 hours, strong inhibitory effect began to appear from the concentration of 1.25 mg/ml. Although soybean extract showed such a tendency, its effect was lower than that of doen-jang extract. These results indicate that doen-jang extract has inhibitory effect against KB cell, and particularly ethyl acetate extract has the highest effect. The effect of doen-jang extract might be possibly enhanced by the fermentation of soybeans. It is assumed that doen-jang extract may be used to develop nontoxic medicines for preventing and treating oral diseases.

  • The paper is concerned about the discovery of new physics of the old oriental philosophy of the yin-Yang '||'&'||' five elements. the physical properties of Five Elements are defined, similarly as in thermodynamics, as five different characteristic state in a cyclic system of nature or a human body. Wood is defined as "warm and soft", Fire as "hot and dispersive", Earth as "agglomerating and sticky", Metal as "tensile and crystallizing", and Water as "cool and slippery" state, respectively. Based on the physics of Five Elements and Qi channel theory, five different constitution classification s are made according to the shape of human face, such as long, inverse triangle, circle, square, and triangle geometry, respectively.Since the constitution implies the relative size or strength of 5 major organs, this theory can be applies successfully to the prediction of the susceptibility to specific diseases as well as the analyses of personal character such as emotion and sensibility. The specific character is analyzed with four different aspects; that is, the first and second are caused by the positive and negative side of the strongest organ, the third character by determined the weakest organ, and finally the fourth by the abnormal psychology due to serious illness.bnormal psychology due to serious illness.
