The physiological signals measured by Oriental Medicine instruments have been analyzed quantitatively in the view of the rule of promoting and counteracting relation of five evolutive phases theory. We tried to reduce the physiological signals measured by EAV(Elec-tro-Acupuncture according to Voll) and IR thermography to the representation of five evelutive phases. The EAV index and local skin temperature on acupuncture points of each phases measured and normalized so that the total value of five phases became unity. We assumed that the normalized EAV index and local skin temperature mean the deficiency or excess of Qi for each phases. The state of Qi distribution for each phases were approximately agree with the diagnostic pattern of O. M. doctor. Taking account of the Qi distribution state of·or the five evolutive phases, we performed a proper needle insertion on acupuncture points to induce the distinct change of Qi for each phases. We compared the measured results with the predictions of Qi variation by the rule of pro- moting and counteracting relation over the five evolutive phases. For all cases, the variation of Qi in the own phase on which a needle insertion was performed were exactly same to the theoretical prediction and partial agreement was shown for the other four phases. The same analysis was carried to the results of skin temperature measurements at accupoints. We found that the local skin temperature at accupoints of each phases shelved a finite change by the needle insertion and the behavior- of its change were strongly correlated to the rule of promoting and counteracting relation of five evolutive phases.

In our study, we tried to quantify Qi through establishing the interpretive method which would be used for inspecting the interrelationship between the Qi in Oriental Medicine and the physiological signals measured at the acupoint. We found out that some physiological signals measured at the acupoint of Meridian could be considered as a scientific Qi. Circulation rules of Qi probating the linkage between physiological signals and Qi are presented as promoting and counteracting rules of the Five Evolutive Phases within the traditional Oriental medicine literatures. We found that promoting and counteracting relations of the Five Evolutive Phases based on the New table about the rule of causing unbalance state(nTRCUS) can be widely used as a interpreting device for verifying the interrelation of human physiological signals and Qi. Standardizing the measured physiological signals into percentage could make relative comparison and judgement of the Five Evolutive Phases deviation possible. Though the physiological signals measured by instruments have different physical values, we could have the interpretation by the same promoting and counteracting rules of the Five Enolutive Phases. We measured EAV indices for 24 hours and discussed them in the view of Qi Circulation in Meridian.

Background and Objective : Most diagnostic method for numbness were invasive and complex. So we need to simplify and objectify diagnostic method for numbness. Some study with EAV which is one of Physiological Signal Measuring Instruments, report significantly result as objective diagnostic method for other clinical symptom. By using EAV, we have obtained some physiological signal data from meridian-acupoints of 58 numbness cases. Objective and Methods : This study researched into the clinical statistics for 58 case who ware in numbness, and they ware treated with oriental medical care at the Dong-shin university oriental hospital during 1 year from April 3 2000 to March 30 2001. The data were analyzed and interpreted to compare with traditional differentiation of symptom-complexes, then further evaluated as the Five Evolutive Phases to make them differentiated. The EAV valus of Five Evolutive Phases were identified with the sequence of wood(木), fire(火), earth(土), steel(金), water(水). Results and Conclusion : These values of physiological signal were identical with standard differentiation of symptom-complexes of numbness which is the main cause of dishannonious flow of Qi and blood of the in the liver and deficiency of Qi and blood of the bladder with stagnancy of dampness. Among Five Evolutive Phases, Earth and wood values were increased, steel, fire and water were decreased significantly. This data imply the possibility of somewhat generalization from measuring instruments.

"The Essence of the Synopsis of the Golden Chamber" is an annotated book on the "Synopsis of the Golden Chamber" written by You-Yi(尤怡) of the Qing Dynasty (1729). Chapter 3 of this annotated book contains explanations of BaiheDisease(百合病). You-Yi(尤怡) maintained that the cause of Baihe-Disease(百合病) is a deficient-type fever(虛熱) induced by lung-fluid deficiency(肺陰不足). Generally, a higher fever led to a worse prognosis, and this disease was mainly treated by supplement methods(補法). In his pharmacological explanations, You-Yi(尤怡) often used the analogical inference of the five evolutive phases(五行歸類), and he frequently quoted "The Yellow Emperor's Canon of Internal Medicine(黃帝內經)" and "The Medical Secret of an Official(外臺秘要)" to explain the texts.

Some study with EAV which is one of Physiological Signal Measuring Instruments, report significantly result as objective diagnostic method for other clinical symptom. By using EAV, we have obtained some physiological signal data from meridian-acupoints of 31 lumbago cases. Objective and Methods : This study researched into the clinical statistics for 31 case who ware in lumbago, and they ware treated with oriental medical care at the Dong-shin university oriental hospital during 6 month from June 1 2001 to November 10 2001. The data were analyzed and interpreted to compare with traditional differentiation of symptom-complexes, then further evaluated as the Five Evolutive Phases to make them differentiated. The EAV valus of Five Evolutive Phases were identified with the sequence of wood(木), fire(火), earth(土)steel(金), water(水). Results and Conclusion : These values of physiological signal were identical with standard differentiation of symptom-complexes of lumbago which is the main cause of deficiency of Qi and blood of the kidney and bladder. Among Five Evolutive Phases, Earth and wood values were increased, steel, fire and water were decreased significantly. This data imply the possibility of somewhat generalization from measuring instruments.

The conception of 'earth(土)' belonging to the five evolutive phases(五行) is cognized that it is not partial to any side differing from other four phases and it can control other four phases so, it is the first gate to enter the process of changes. In the five organs(五臟), the spleen come under the earth phases and it have been very importantly considered for past to now in oriental medical history, for example by Li Dongyuan(李東垣). In this study, the results are summarized as the followings. 1. The term of the acquired constitution(後天) made by So-ong(邵雍), a scholar in the north so-dynasty, is used in the study of the book of changes(易經). And he said "The inborn constitution(先天) is the law of the nature itself and, the acquired constitution(後天) is the law of making the changes with the nature." In the myung-dynasty Li jungjae(李仲梓) made extract from this remarks 10 define that the spleen is the basis of the acquired constitution. So it considered that the the idea of changes(易) had an effect on the oriental medicine. 2. The one element of five phases, earth is the center of the changes and it composes the power of life with the sangsu(生數)-1, 2, 3, 4, and the sungsu(成數)-6, 7, 8, 9. In this process, the earth is the basis of the changes of the five phases. At the same time the spleen carry out the important physiological role in the humanbody controlling the other four organs. 3. In the change of the universe, the repetitionary movement of Yin(陰) and yang(陽) is the action of earth and it means illimitable division. In the course of this division all things change to new phases for example, the food changes 10 the ki(氣) through the action of spleen and stomach. So the organ of spleen and stomach is the space that the action of change occur. 4. Consequently the conception of bi(脾) is close to the pancreas that the spleen. And the duodenum is close to the conception of stomach because the space is the site of mito(未土). 5. The action of yin and yang in the ancient taegukdo(太極圖) is close 10 the connection of N-pole and S-pole. In the humanbody the two power is compared to the action of spleen and kidney, that means expansion and contraction. Also it means the inborn constitution and the acquired constitution so, it applyed to the all things in the universe.

Background and Purpose: Feeling the pulse is based on the pulse condition and alteration to observe the condition of the human body's health and by using a healthy person's pulse as a standard we are able to analyze the patient's pulse to find the attacked channel and collateral, viscera and bowels and understand the pathology such as diseases caused by exogenous evil, disorder of internal organs, and seven modes of emotions. Observing the color and shade of the patient's face, listening carefully to the sound of the patient, and feeling the pulse are methods in accordance with Su Wen 'Plain Questions', 'The Classic on Difficulty' (5th century B.C. Bianque), 'The Classic of Sphymology' (280 A.D. Wang Xi), 'Pulse Formulas' (1189 A.D. Cui Jiayan), and is systematically edited for those who have started studying to easily reach the profound state. Therefore, 'The Elementary Course for Medicine' has been used from ancient times as the textbook for diagnostics. Methods: In this Study, we will inspect commonly used pulse feeling methods, the inch, bar, cubit thesis, the viscera and bowels thesis from The Elementary Course for Medicine and inquire the difference of the text from 'Plain Questions of Huangdi's Internal Classic', 'Treatise on Febrile Diseases', 'Classic on Difficulty'. Results and Conclusion: 1. In 'The Elementary Course for Medicine' the site of the wrist along the pulsation of the radial artery is divided into inch, bar, cubit and has defined the inch, bar, cubit crossways. 2. In 'The Elementary Course of Medicine' the inch, bar, cubit for the left hand and right hand is subjected to each viscera and bowel. By assigning the left hand's inch, bar, cubit to the cardial orb, the hepatic orb, the renal orb, and the right hand's inch, bar, cubit to the pulmonic orb, the splenic orb, the vital gate it has been able to feel the pulse for each viscera and bowel by using the interpromoting and interacting relation of the five evolutive phases.
