  • In $\ulcorner$Yingshu(靈樞)$\lrcorner$, $\ulcorner$Sumun(素問)$\lrcorner$ and $\ulcorner$Najing(難經)$\lrcorner$, there are differences in viewing FiveSu-point(五輸穴) and its practical application in treatment. The following conclusions are induced from these different point of views. 1. Fundamental features of FiveSu-point are shown in$\ulcorner$Yingshu(靈樞)$\lrcorner$ 2. In $\ulcorner$Internal classic(內經)$\lrcorner$ and $\ulcorner$Najing(難經)$\lrcorner$, it seems attachment that FiveSu-point is identical to the Five Elements, but there are differences in using the Five Elements sangsyang-sangguk in treatment. 3. There are clear differences between $\ulcorner$Internal classic(內經)$\lrcorner$ and $\ulcorner$Najing(難經)$\lrcorner$ in attachment of FiveSu-point and Fourseasons. Differences are shown in each chapter of $\ulcorner$Yingshu(靈樞)$\lrcorner$. 4. Different application of FiveSu-point's various cases is shown in $\ulcorner$Yingshu(靈樞)$\lrcorner$, $\ulcorner$Sumun(素問)$\lrcorner$ and $\ulcorner$Najing(難經)$\lrcorner$. 5. Different application of FiveSu-point in $\ulcorner$Yingshu(靈樞)$\lrcorner$, $\ulcorner$Sumun(素問)$\lrcorner$ and $\ulcorner$Najing(難經)$\lrcorner$ is due to different historical background.

  • Backgrounds/Aims: The aim of this study was to describe short- and long-term outcomes of patients who underwent pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) at a typical United Kingdom hepatopancreatobiliary unit. Methods: A retrospective analysis of all PD patients with histologically-confirmed pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), ampullary adenocarcinoma (AA), or distal cholangiocarcinoma (CC) from September 1st, 2006 to May 31st, 2015 was carried out. The following information was obtained: demographics, comorbidities, preoperative investigations, neoadjuvant treatment, operative details, postoperative management, complications, adjuvant treatment, five-year recurrence, and five-year survival. Effects of selected preoperative variables on short- and long-term outcomes were investigated. Results: Of 271 included patients, 57.9% had PDAC, 25.8% had AA, and 16.2% had CC. In total, 67.9% experienced morbidity and 17.3% developed a Clavien-Dindo grade ≥ III complication. The 90-day mortality was 3.3%. Clinically-relevant postoperative pancreatic fistula, bile leak, gastrojejunal leak, postpancreatectomy haemorrhage and delayed gastric emptying affected 8.1%, 4.1%, 0.0%, 9.2%, and 19.9% of patients, respectively. American Society of Anesthesiologists grade III-VI correlated with overall morbidity (p = 0.002) and major morbidity (p = 0.009), but not 90-day mortality or five-year survival. The same pattern was observed in patients with a preoperative serum bilirubin > 29 µmol/L and/or a neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio > 3.1. Five-year cancer recurrence and five-year survival were 68.3% and 22.5%, respectively. PDAC patients had higher five-year recurrence but lower five-year survival rates (both p = 0.001). Conclusions: In our series, the majority of patients experienced a complication. However, few patients experienced major morbidity. Surgical risk factors did not affect five-year survival.

  • To evaluate the effect of occlusive skin on the activity of cutaneous oxygen free radical metabolizing enzymes in rats, the dorsal skin was covered with closed glass chamber shaped petri dish, 46 mm in diameter and 10 mm in height and sealed by an adhesive. Five day-occluded group showed more increased activity of xanthine oxidase (XO) than that of control, and the activity of five day-occluded group was higher than that of ten day-occluded group. The activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) were significantly higher in ten day-occluded group than in control or five day-occluded group. All the more, five day-occluded group showed the decreasing tendency of SOD and GPx activities compared to those of control. On the other hand, the cerrous perhydroxide deposits were observed in the intercellular space of the stratum basale in five day-occluded group under the electronic microscope using a cytochemistry method. Futhermore, the degree of cerrous perhydroxide reaction was lower in ten day-occluded group than in five day-occluded group. In conclusion, the increased XO activity and the decreased SOD and GPx activities are likely to responsible far the accumulation of $H_2O_2$ in five day-occluded group.

  • "Soayakjeungjikgyeol(小兒藥證直訣)" written by Jeon Uel(錢乙, 1032-1113) in the Song dynasty, is the most old and well know specialty publication of pediatrics in Easter Traditional Medicine. "Soayakjeungjikgyeol(小兒藥證直訣)" made a big influence not only on the development of pediatrics in later traditional medicine through the explanations of physiological and pathological knowledge and experiences, but also on application of many effective prescriptions which have been used in many clinics until now days. One of the most important meaning which "Soayakjeungjikgyeol(小兒藥證直訣)" has, is that it emphasized on the diagnosis and treatment using the theory of five organs(五臟辨證), and applied it to clinical medicine effectively. In othe words, through application of the theory of five organs in "Hwangjenargyeong(黃帝內經)" to practical field, Jeon Uel(錢乙) played role of a ring connecting with studies of herbal medicine in the school of Yeoksu(易水), and the development of the theory of five organs of the four prominent doctors(金元四大家) in the Jin(金) and Yuan(元) dynasty. In this article, also it is investigated that how the theory of interaction among five phases(五行), can be applied to treatment of pediatrics through analysis of related texts in "Soayakjeungjikgyeol(小兒藥證直訣)". This studies would be useful to understanding the history and properties of the theory of five organs.

  • Objectives : Before Liver, Heart, Spleen, Lung, Kidney was widely accepted as Five Viscera, there had been several former types of Viscera system in pre-Western Han era. Above them, the Five Viscera system consisted of Liver, Heart, Stomach, Lung, Kidney was not yet hardly studied. So we tried to prove it's existence and tried to find it's historical context. Material and Methods : Via preceding research analysis, 6 books were selected as research material, and some other pre-Eastern Han dynasty classics were also analyzed. Results : We found direct evidence of above Five Viscera system in Zhuixingxun (墜形訓) in Huainanzi (淮南子), Wusemaizhen (五色脈診), and Western Han dynasty lacquer figure with meridian-points (excavated in Laoguanshan, Chengdu, China). Other clues showing existence of above Five Viscera system was also found in Yinyangshiyimaijiujing (陰陽十一脈灸經), Pianquecanggongliechuan (扁鵲倉公列傳). The rising of above Five Viscera system was related to physiological viewpoint transition of viscera in Western Han dynasty. Conclusions : In Western Han dynasty there was another Viscera System consisted of Liver, Heart, Stomach, Lung, Kidney.

  • Five-port reflectometer which consists of a ring with 5 arms (two inputs, three outputs) and three RF power detectors has been used as a vector network analyser, a demodulator in the homodyne receiver as well as in Phase Looked Loop (PLL) and so on. Calibration of five-port reflectometer is an important task. In this paper, we present a calibration method of five-port for a propagation channel sounder. The method is based on measurement of the phase differences between the three voltages at the five-port's outputs in order to determine the ratio of two input incident waves. The frequency channel sounder based on five-port is calibrated for each frequency from 2.2 GHz to 2.6 GHz with 1 MHz step. This method can also determine the absolute delays of each propagation path in the propagation channel. The calibration method is validated using measurement data.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the needling depth of five-phase acupoints by acupuncture and moxibustion literatures. Methods : 7 volumes of acupuncture and moxibustion literatures was used to determine the depth of five-phase acupoints. The depth of needling at 60 five-phase acupoints was compared between well, spring, stream, river, sea acupoints and also yin, yang, hand and foot meridians. Results : The proximal part of the extremities had deeper needling depth than the distal part of the extremities. The order of well, spring, stream, river, sea can be related to the needling depth. Foot meridians had deeper needling depth than hand meridians. Yin meridians had deeper needling depth at Well, spring, stream acupoints and yan meridians had deeper needling depth at river, sea acupoints. Conclusions : The distinct patterns of needling depth of five-phase acupoints is related to which part of the extremities are five-phase acupoints located.
