To assess the preference and efficacy of empirical fitting methods with spheric and aspheric RGP lenses. Methods: Healthy 37 subjects were fitted with spheric design (diameter 9.3 mm) on right eye and aspheric design (dia 9.6 mm) on the left eye. Base curves which were fitted empirically (using on-K, Kavg-0.50D (or 1.00D) and manufacturer's recommended fitting guide) were compared with another base curve which obtained the best diagnostic fit with spheric and aspheric RGP lenses. The preference and fitting type (lid attachment or interpalpebral) for two design lenses were investigated 2 weeks after fitting RGP lenses. Results: Of 33 successful RGP lens-wearing subjects, 76% preferred spheric design compared with 24% of aspheric RGP lens wearers. Sixty seven percent were fitted with lid-attachment in spheric lenses, whereas 64% were fitted with lid-attachment in aspheric lenses. The acceptable fit success rates within ${\pm}$0.50D of base curves were 97% for the on-K fit, 100% for the Kavg-0.50D fit and 100% of the manufacturer's guide fit compared with the diagnostic fit in spheric design, whereas 91%, 79% and 94% reported on-K, Kavg-1.00D and manufacturer's guide, respectively, in aspheric design. Conclusions: Although aspheric RGP lenses are more popular in the Korean market, it is still preferable to fit subjects with spheric RGP lenses. Empirical fitting may be best accomplished with the spheric lenses using Kavg-0.50D fit and the manufacturer's fitting guide, whereas aspheric RGP lens designs are unacceptable lens fit based on empirical fitting.
The linear curve fitting methods such as the Hvorslev method and the Bouwer and Rice method provide a rapid and simple means to analyze slug test data for estimating in-situ hydraulic conductivity (k) of geologic material. However, when analyzing a slug test in a relatively compressible aquifer, these methods have difficulties in fitting a straight line to the semi-logarithmic plot of the test data that shows a concave-upward curvature because the linear curve fitting methods ignore the role of the compressibility or specific storage ($S_s$) of an aquifer. The comparison of the Hvorslev method and the Bouwer and Rice method is made far a partially-penetrating well geometry to show analytically that the Hvorslev method estimates higher hydraulic conductivity than the Bouwer and Rice method except that the well intake section locates very close to the bottom of the aquifer. The effect of fitting a straight line to the slug test data is evaluated along with the dimensionless compressibility parameter (${\alpha}$) ranging from 0.001 to 1. A modified linear curve fitting method that is expanded from Chirlin's approach to the case of a partially penetrating well with the basic-time-lag fitting method is introduced. A case study for a compressible glacial till is made to verify the proposed method by comparing with a type curve method (KGS method).
In this study, we suggest Korean nonlinear fitting formula (KNFF) to maximize speech intelligibility for digital hearing aids based on NAL-NL1 (NAL-nonlinear, version 1). KNFF was derived from the same procedure which is used for deriving NAL-NL1. KNFF consider the long-term average speech spectrum of Korean instead of English because the frequency characteristic of Korean is different from that of English. New insertion gains of KNFF were derived using the SII (speech intelligibility index) program provided by ANSI. In addition, the insertion gains were modified to maximize the intelligibility of high frequency words. To verify effect of the new fitting gain, we performed speech discrimination test (SDT) and preference test using the hearing loss simulator from NOISH. In the SDT, a word set as test material consists of 50 1-syllable word generally used in hearing clinic. As a result of the test, in case of moderate hearing loss with severe loss on high frequency, the SDT scores of KNFF was more improved about 3.2% than NAL-NLl and about 6% in case of the sever hearing loss. Finally we have obtained the result that it was the effective way to increase gain of mid-high frequency bands and to decrease gain of low frequency bands in order to maximize speech intelligibility of Korean.
This paper proposes a extraction of feature lines on a polygonal model using local implicit surface fitting technique. To extract feature lines on a polygonal model, the previous technique addressed to compute the curvature and their derivatives at mesh vertices via global implicit surface fitting. It needs a user-specified precision parameter for finding an accurate projection of the mesh vertices onto an approximating implicit surface and requires high-time consumption. But we use a local implicit surface fitting technique to estimate the local differential information near a vertex by means of an approximating surface. Feature vertices are easily detected as zero-crossings, and can then be connected along the direction of principal curvature. Our method, demonstrated on several large polygonal models, produces a good fit which leads to improved visualization.
This research is to understand customer satisfaction with virtual fitting based on a 3D body scanner and avatars as well as differences between avatars and the 'real me'. To this end, this research examined Korean college students to facilitate 3D body scanning, avatar generation and surveys. The author used 3D body scan data with direct measurements to identify differences between the 3D body scan data-based 'my avatar' and 'real me' in the virtual dress fitting system. The survey results on 'the level of customer awareness on 3D body scanner' found that the majority of both genders did not know about it and indicated a lower usability to incorporate IT technology into the fashion industry. The question in the 3D body scanning and avatar found an affirmative attitude. Satisfaction levels on the 3D avatars' similarity with 'own body' and garment fitting were positive and indicated a need for further technological improvements to express the avatars identical to customers' own body. More research is necessary for the accuracy of sizes for 3D body scanning that measure body sizes while wearing clothes. Avatars based on such datamay be less similar to 'own body' and cause customer dissatisfaction. Thus, further technology development is required to narrow gaps using data to make avatars that provide more accurate virtual fitting simulation services to customers.

Recently, there has been a gradual increase in the number of people who are interested in cycling, leading to an increasing number of cycling equipment consumers. However, many bicyclists get hurt because of their lack of knowledge about the right size of bicycle for their body. Although it is necessary for a rider to fit their bicycle to prevent injury, they reject a fitting service because of the long hours and high cost. In this study, we propose a bicycle fitting system that uses a depth camera to improve the limitations of existing manual fitting systems. With the defined formula, the system calculates the size of the bicycle using body image information extracted by a depth camera and visualizes a customized bicycle for a specific consumer. This system will not only save the customer time and money, but will prevent injury from the use of a bicycle that does not fit.
Magnetometer calibration must be performed before the use of three-axis magnetometers to ensure the accuracy of orientation estimation. Recently, one of the most popular calibration approaches is the ellipsoid fitting technique due to its high performance in calibration. To date, in fact, performances of the existing ellipsoid fitting methods have been evaluated with full range rotation data. However, in case of the calibration of magnetometers attached to vehicles, ships, and planes, it is very difficult to collect the full range rotation data since their allowable ranges in terms of roll and pitch are limited to small. This constraint may result in serious performance degradation of some ellipsoid fitting algorithms. Therefore, to be practical, this paper proposes a weighted least square-based magnetometer calibration method that is robust in roll-pitch limited conditions. Furthermore, the proposed method is a linear approach and thus is free from the well-known initial value issue in nonlinear approaches. Experimental results show the superiority of the proposed method to other ellipsoid-fitting calibration methods.
In connecting parts of a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, since the rubber ring is permeable to hydrogen, it is necessary to use a metal sealing structure which ensures leakage stability. Finite element analysis was performed to verify the fitting characteristics of the metal sealing structure, which is used to connect the pipe to a high pressure hydrogen FCEV tank. Deformation shape, contact distance and axial load were compared experimentally and these values were in agreement with each other. In the contact surface, between the pipe and the fitting body, the stress at the edge of the contact surface was higher than the center point, which was considered to be a good characteristic in view point of the leakage. The location of the contact points has almost no change in the upper part of the fitting, but that of the lower parts move downward as the fastening amount increases. The contact pressure at the lower part is maintained at the same constant level.
In this thesis, a nonlinear compression fitting method was studied for each frequency channel of a 64 channel digital hearing aid. Unlike conventional fitting formula method done from the result of the hearing loss test, the present fitting method uses the auditory threshold of sound pressure measured near the tympanic membrane while ITE (In-The-Ear) hearing aid is fitted into the user's ear canal. Also, the spectral distribution of the voice sound pressure was used for realizing of output sound pressure compression curves against input sound pressure level. Theoretical research results of FFT-iFFT compression algorithm has been evaluated by experimental gain measurements at each different input sound pressure level 50 dB, 70 dB, 90 dB respectively.

Wafer pre-alignment is to find the center and the orientation of a wafer and to move the wafer to the desired position and orientation. In this paper, an area camera based pre-aligning method is presented that captures 8 wafer images regularly during 360 degrees rotation. From the images, wafer edge positions are extracted and used to estimate the wafer's center and orientation using least square circle fitting. These information are utilized for the proper alignment of the wafer.
