Accuracy Verification of Heart Rate and Energy Consumption Tracking Devices to Develop Forest-Based Customized Health Care Service Programs

  • This study was carried out to verify the accuracy of fitness tracking devices in monitoring heart rate and energy consumption and to contribute to the development of a forest exercise program that can recommend the intensity and amount of forest exercises based on personal health-related data and provide monitoring and feedback on forest exercises. Among several commercially available wearable devices, Fitbit was selected for the research, as it provides Open API and data collected by Fitbit can be utilized by third parties to develop programs. Fitbit provides users with various information collected during forest exercises including exercise time and distance, heart rate, energy consumption, as well as the altitude and slope of forests collected by GPS. However, in order to verify the usability of the heart rate and energy consumption data collected by Fitbit in forest, the accuracy of heart rate and energy consumption were verified by comparing the data collected by Fitbit and reference. In this study, 13 middle-aged women were participated, and it was found that the heart rate measured by Fitbit showed a very low error rate and high correlation with that measured by the reference. The energy consumption measured by Fitbit was not significantly different from that measured in the reference, but the error rate was slightly higher. However, there was high correlation between the results measured by Fibit and the reference, therefore, it can be concluded that Fitbit can be utilized in developing actual forest exercise programs.

한국어판 피츠버그 수면의 질 지수(PSQI-K) 도구의 신뢰도와 타당도 검증 (The Reliability and Validity Testing of Korean Version of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index)

  • 본 연구는 한국어판 피츠버그 수면의 질 지수(PSQI-K) 도구의 신뢰도와 타당도를 검증하고 수면장애군의 최적 절단점을 탐색하기 위한 목적으로 수행되었다. 초기 성인 64명을 대상으로 PSQI-K와 Fitbit charge 3TM을 이용하여 주관적 수면의 질과 수면양상을 측정하였다. 도구의 신뢰도는 Cronbach's alpha coefficient 계수로, 도구의 타당도는 요인분석 및 PSQI-K 점수와 Fitbit tracker 간의 Spearman's rho 상관계수로 분석하였다. 연구결과, PSQI-K 점수의 Cronbach's alpha coefficient는 0.69였고, PSQI-K와 Fitbit tracker의 각 지표값과의 correlation은 0.67 이상으로 유의하였다. 수면장애군 구분을 위한 절단점은 ≥6일 때 민감도 0.93, 특이도 0.84로 가장 적합하였다. PSQI-K는 초기 성인의 수면장애군을 스크리닝함에 있어서 신뢰도와 타당도가 양호한 도구임이 확인되었다.

수면 라이프로그 순응도에 대한 연구 (Study on Compliance in Sleep Life Log: Observational Cohort Study)

  • Objectives : This study collected sleep information by wearable device in the Korean medicine Daejeon citizen cohort (KDCC). It was measured based on the sleep record information measured by wearing a Fitbit, and the possibility of clinical use was examined for compliance with objective sleep collection. Based on compliance, the possibility of clinical use was examined. Methods : After surveying personal information and PSQI(Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index), sleep information was collected by Fitbit for 14 days. Compliance was measured based on sleep record information by Fitbit. Compliance was analyzed by sex, age, BMI(Body Mass Index), and sleep group(deep/poor). Results : The number of participants was 730, and the compliance was 94.3%, and the compliance group was 675(92.5%). The age of the participants varied from 30 to 60 years old, and the average age was 46±6.7 years. There were 218 males and 512 females. Young people have high compliance. Males are more compliance than females. As the BMI score decreased in the 30s, the compliance was higher. The underweight group in all age groups had 100 compliance. The underweight group was all female. The low compliance groups were that 30 years males (obesity level2), 50 years females (overweight group), and 50 years females (obesity level2). There was no significant difference in compliance between deep sleep group and poor sleep group. In deep sleep group, females showed higher compliance. In poor sleep group, males showed higher compliance. The average duration of Fitbit usage among participants was 20.1 days. The compliant group wore the device for an average of 21.3 days, while the non-compliant group wore it for only 5.2 days. Of the compliant group, 86.9% (73.8% of all participants) continued to wear the Fitbit after the recommended 14-day period, and 50.8% wore it for more than 20 days. Conclusions : This study showed the possibility of adaptation for wearing a Fitbit for collecting objective sleep information. It is judged that the compliance is high because it was worn for more than 13.2 days out of the 14 days required. It is considered meaningful because the compliance was measured based on the sleep information by Fitbit, not the questionnaire. As the data on objective sleep time is collected automatically, we believe that the burden on participants after the study period is not significant for a certain period. Compliance may be even higher for cohorts related to illnesses and with doctor's orders, rather than for the general population.

대한민국 공군 조종사의 일일 활동량에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Korean Air Force Pilot's Daily Activities)

  • Pilots' fatigue is one of the most serious threat to flying safety. Fatigue is influenced by many factors like sleep deprivation, daily activities, aging, stress, etc. This study was designed to investigate military pilots' daily activities. 20 pilots' daily activity was monitored by activity monitor, Fitbit(R), and the survey about sleep time and flight time was conducted. They placed Fitbit(R) on their waist for 5 days. During flight, they removed Fitbit(R) that had been used for checking their steps and walking distances. It was found that the average sleep time is 6.7 hours for fighter pilots. It was a little shorter than average sleep time for adults, 8 hours. Average steps per day was 6,838 which is more than sedentary worker's but less than active worker's. Their daily activities were not as high as we had expected. But their sleep time was very short. Flight surgeons should recommend them to take a rest and get sleep during rest period.

The Effectiveness of a mHealth Program Using Wearable Devices and Health Coaching among Bus Drivers for Promoting Physical Activity

  • Purpose: Bus drivers are at high risk of chronic diseases due to risk factors associated with poor diet, physical inactivity, high levels of sedentary behaviors, and unfavorable working environments. This study developed a mHealth program for bus drivers, and examined the effectiveness of a mHealth program for promoting physical activity among bus drivers using wearable devices and health coaching. Methods: Forty-seven workers from two bus companies were allocated to the experimental group and the control group. Participants were asked to wear a wearable device (Fitbit Charge HR) during waking hours for a day. Participants in the experimental group were provided with a Fitbit, weekly face-to-face health coaching, a mHealth workbook, and text and photo messaging for 12 weeks. The control group only received a Fitbit. Results: By week 12, there were significant differences between the experimental and control groups in exercise self-efficacy (p<.015) and daily walking steps (p<.001). Conclusion: The findings have demonstrated that the mHealth program using wearable devices and health coaching is effective for bus drivers for promoting physical activity. Based on our findings, it is recommended to encourage the mHealth program using wearable devices and health coaching for bus drivers' wellness.

팔목 부착형 생체신호 측정기기에 사용가능한 방사패턴 재구성 안테나 설계 및 인체 SAR 영향 분석 (Design of Radiation Pattern Reconfigurable Antenna for Vital Signal Sensing Device Attached on Wristband and SAR Analysis on Human body)

  • 본 논문은 생체신호를 측정하는 팔목부착용 Fitbit Flex상에 구현된 방사패턴 재구성 안테나에 관련된 논문이다. 또한 본 논문에서 제안하는 루프-다이폴 방사패턴 재구성 안테나의 인체 내 부위별 전자파 흡수율 (Specific Absorption Rate; SAR)에 관한 논문이다. 본 논문의 루프-다이폴 방사패턴 재구성 안테나는 두 개의 RF 스위치를 사용하여 서로 반대방향의 두 가지 방사패턴을 구현한다. 방사패턴 재구성 안테나는 블루투스 (Bluetooth) 통신 대역 (2.4 - 2.485 GHz)을 사용하며, 최대이득은 1.96 dBi이다. SAR 시뮬레이션 결과로 블루투스 입력 평균전력 0.04 W가 팔목을 포함하는 인체 내 다섯 개 부위 (두부, 가슴, 배, 등, 팔목)에 입력되었을 때 Federal Communication Commission (FCC)의 기준인 단위 1 g 당 1.6 W/kg을 모두 만족함을 확인하였다. 또한 최대 SAR 값은 두부에서 1.12 W/kg이다.

매트리스 소재변화가 수면의 질에 미치는 영향: 탐색적 연구 (Effects of Mattress Material Change on Sleep Quality: An Exploratory Study)

  • 본 연구는 라텍스 매트리스가 수면의 질과 편안함에 미치는 영향을 평가하기 위하여 수행되었다. 대상자들은 임상의의 진찰을 통해 중증의 불면증을 비롯한 수면에 영향을 줄 수 있는 질병이 없는 건강한 성인 11명(남 5명, 여 6명, 나이 37.7세, 키 167.8cm, 체중 67.0kg)으로 구성되었다. 대상자들은 개인 생활공간에서 7일 동안 사용하던 스프링 매트리스에서 수면을 취하였고, 이를 웨어러블 디바이스(Fitbit)와 수면일지, PSQI, ISI, 만족도 설문을 사용하여 기록하였다. 이어서 대상자들의 매트리스를 라텍스 매트리스로 교체하여 14일 동안 사용하게 하였고, 이를 기록하였다. 그 결과 Fitbit 상에서 라텍스 매트리스를 사용 후 주중 수면 시간이 62.9분, 주말 수면 시간은 53.2분 증가하는 것으로 나타났으며, ISI 설문에서는 3.8점이 유의하게 감소하였다. PSQI 설문에서는 poor sleeper가 10명에서 7명으로 줄었으나 통계적으로 유의하지는 않았고, 만족도 설문에서는 허리, 목, 어깨의 편안함이 유의하게 증가하였다. 이러한 결과로 미루어 볼 때, 라텍스 매트리스는 객관적 및 주관적 수면의 질에 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있을 것으로 보여진다.

피트니스 트래커를 활용한 사업장 걷기운동 프로그램의 효과: 개별 상담과 맞춤형 문자메시지 적용 (Effectiveness of a Workplace Walking Program Using a Fitness Tracker Including Individual Counseling and Tailored Text Messaging)

  • Purpose: This study is designed as a non-equivalent, control group pre/post-test for identifying effectiveness of a workplace walking program using a fitness tracker including individual counseling and tailored text messaging. Methods: Seventy-nine employees from two large companies were allocated into an intervention group (n=39) and a control group (n=40). Participants were asked to wear a fitness tracker (Fitbit Charger HR) during 24-hour, 5-days per week, for 10 weeks. The intervention group was provided with daily walking steps measured by Fitbit, weekly counseling with a specifically designed workbook, and seven weekly text messaging, and the control group with the fitness tracker only. Results: At the week 10 measurement, there were significant differences between the intervention and control groups in physical activity self-efficacy (p<.001), physical activity behavior (p<.001), daily walking steps (p<.001), systolic blood pressure (p=.033), and wellness (p<.001). Conclusion: These results suggest that the workplace walking program using a fitness tracker including individual counseling and tailored text messaging is more effective for persons with 10,000 steps/day. Therefore, it is recommended to actively apply this workplace walking program to inactive employees for encouraging regular physical activities and improving their wellness.

병원 간호사의 연속 야간 교대근무와 근무시간이 불면증에 미치는 영향 (Influence of Consecutive Night-Shift Work and Working Time on Insomnia among Hospital Nurses)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the influence of consecutive night-shift work and working time on insomnia among hospital nurses. Methods: A descriptive correlational research designutilizing secondary data analysis was adopted. Data on consecutive night-shift work, working time, and insomnia were collected from 64 hospital nurses using a Fitbit activity tracker and questionnaires, and analyzed using hierarchical logistic regression. Results: Consecutive night-shift work for more than three days had a significant influence on insomnia among hospital nurses. Weekly working hours also accounted significantly for the variance in insomnia, exceeding the influence of consecutive night-shift work. Conclusion: Development and implementation of proper schedules to control consecutive night-shift work and working time is important to alleviate insomnia among hospital nurses.

한의학 개인 건강 데이터 수집 기술 동향

  • 요즘 많은 인기를 끌고 있는 핏빗(Fitbit)과 같은 액티비티 트래커(Activity tracker)와 곧 출시될 애플 워치(Apple watch)와 같은 스마트 시계 등에서 얻을 수 있는 운동 또는 활동량 데이터와 맥박과 같은 건강 데이터를 플랫폼을 통하여 획득하고 이를 기반으로 건강을 관리하고자 하는 노력이 다양한 곳에서 시도되고 있다. 이와 같이 미국, 유럽의 정부와 애플, 구글, 마이크로소프트, 삼성과 같은 많은 글로벌 기업 등이 앞다투어 개인 건강 관리를 위한 기술을 개발하고 있고, 많은 기업들이 건강 관련 기기와 서비스를 상용화하여 내놓고 있다. 이러한 획득 가능한 데이터로부터 전통의학인 한의학 기반의 건강 관리를 위하여 한의학적으로 의미있는 개인 건강 데이터를 수집하려는 기술에 대하여 알아본다.
