  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the fishery perception and recreation fishing demand level of coastal waters ranch with the case in Tongyeong city's Bijin-do Yongcho-do, Juk-do. The study conducts a survey of 27 fishermen and 113 recreation fishing tourists from September 26 to November 21, 2016. The major results of this study are as follows. First, the survey of fishery perception level suggests that the increase of fishery resources by Tongyeong-si coastal waters ranch project contributes to the rising income of fishermen, decreased fishing cost, and increased the number of tourists. Second, the survey of recreation fishing tourists's demand level suggests that a beautiful view, fish populations, kindness of residents, fishing point information, charter information, and the convenience of transportation are highly praised and highly regarded. However, links to nearby tourism, lodging facilities, and food information that can increase the income of fishermen is poorly praised. Therefore, this study suggests that a careful marine policy with fishery resource creation should be followed for marine fishing village tourism consumer's benefits in order to increase fishing village's income.

  • The primary purpose of this paper is to introduce the cases of fishery co-management, particularly in Korea. In recent, the fishery co-management between the government and fishermen has been brought an important shift of paradigm in a part of Korean fishery management policy. In case of Korea fisheries area, three fisheries cooperatives(which refer to purse sein fishery, trawl fishery, stow net fishery) have a minority of co-management programs. Generally, the main method of fishery co-management programs is 'Fishery Closures' among the programs, and others are restriction of fishing gear and fishermen educations. In spite of the efforts and time consumes of Korean government and fisheries cooperatives, much to our regret that it is hard to confirm visible results in an increased amount of fisheries resources so far because of the time constraint, namely fishery co-management programs have been conducted just since two to three years before. However, what's certain is that fishery co-management programs make it possible to positively effect on both of area in fishermen and fisheries resources. Accordingly, it is necessary that Korean government and fishermen should extend the fishery co-management to other fishery areas as soon as possible we can in order to efficiently reduce administrative costs and effectively reserve fisheries resources.

  • To develop functional workwear for fishing, this study investigated the working conditions, inconveniences and problems associated with workwear, and functions required for workwear. A questionnaire was used for the study, and SPSS 26.0 was used for the analysis. In total, 124 fishermen participated in this survey (ages: 53.2 ± 11.9), consisting of 84.7% males and 15.3% females. The number of participants whose work experience was more than 10 years and less than 20 years was 46, accounting for 37.1%. Most fishing industry was in danger of getting hit by machinery or clothes. Fishermen preferred two-piece style workwear, and a waterproof fabric was the most important factor considered while purchasing the workwear. Their discomfort while moving in their workwear was attributed to the stretching of their hips, thighs, crotch, and knees when lifting their legs or squatting. Preferences depended on the type of fishery and the age of fishermen. Protection was emphasized for aquaculture fishing, while the activity was emphasized for capture fishing. People in their 50s emphasized the protection provided by the workwear, while others emphasized the activity. In the future, substantial research is necessary to develop workwear that reflects fishermen's requirements.

So, the data were collected from a fishermen living at the city of Pohang in Kyungbuk province. The treatment of materials are classified by age, level of a school career and by working career. This research evaluated percentage to the frequency of responses to each question and carried out $\chi^2$. The statistically signigicant level account for p<.05 and made use of SPSS 10.0. The conclusion of study were as follows; First, fishermen have little understanding for fishery consciousness, therefore there was needed public activities and life long education. Second, in order to solve the difficulties of fisheries villages, governmental financial support have to be presented, It is showed that economically, culturally, and financially, govermental policy should be devised for the purpose of emerging from backwardness of fisheries villages. Third, large portions of economic value should be allocated to fisheries villages by improving fisheries structure. Actually, lower incomes haves have burdened fisheries villagers with more debts. More years of being engaged in fisheries have resulted in more debts. People in fisheries villages regarded incomes as the most important among factors in their selecting fisheries as a job. If they earned more money in fisheries village than in metropolises, people on fisheries villages would choose the fisheries an their jobs. Naturally, there will prove to be an increase of number of persons engaged in fisheries. Also, thinking of fisheries as dangerous and heavy should be corrected into the new image by improving work environments and mechanization.

The main reason for positive responses lies in the potentiality for development of fishery but the negative responses are because of the heavy work. 56.8% of the respondents expected an increasing number of successor to fishery, but 43.2% of the respondents had a negative foresight on that problem. The negative respondents stated that the fisherman that moved from the sea villages to the urban areas are responsible for the none increasing numbers of successors to fishery. Most of the respondents answered that government support is needed in order to increase the number of successors to fishery. 2) Social education for Fishermen Only 40% of fishermen know the Fishing Village Guidance Center as the main institute for social education. 94.17% of the respondents prefer plural institutes to single ones. 5.9% of the respondents answered with opposit opinions. 40.4% of the respondents answered that technical teachings has not often been practised. • There are many work-related injuries and diseases of fisheries in Korea. Fishermen have exposed to harmful environment, such as natural disasters, ultraviolet, noise, vibration, organic solvents, ergonomic risk factors, loss of fresh water and food, and psychologic stress. They have suffered from numerous work-related health problems, including musculoskeletal disorders, cardiovascular diseases, infectious diseases, pyschological diseases, decompression sickness, and so on. Sea accidents can cause deaths of fishermen and if sea pollution is occurred, fishermen have a great economic damage. However, the concern of these injuries and diseases has been little because they are small in number and have decreased. Fisheries are important core industries, so the problems of fisheries have to be solved by a government. But work-related injuries and diseases are not investigated properly and accurate diagnoses are not made due to loss of concern. We hope that this article will be a cornerstone to solving the work-related problems of fisheries.

  • Objectives: To obtain audiologic basic data to diagnose the noise induced hearing loss of workers in fisheries. Methods: The charts of the referred fishermen with noise induced hearing loss from November 2022 to February 2023 at a general hospital were retrospectively reviewed. Pure tone audiometry, speech audiometry, auditory brainstem response test and auditory steady state response test were conducted. Results: All of them were men over 60 years of age, and the average duration of exposure to noise was 38.9 ± 10.8 years, and the average symptom duration of hearing loss was 13.4 ± 4.3 years. Although the hearing thresholds in the high frequencies were higher than thresholds in the low frequencies, the audiogram showed a down-sloping pattern without rebound at 8 kHz. 10.5% of the cases had thresholds greater than 75 dB in high frequencies, but 57.9% had thresholds greater than 40 dB in low frequencies. Other hearing test results of fishermen were similar to those of general noise-induced hearing loss. Conclusions: Although the fishermen were exposed to noise for a long time, they recognized hearing loss late. The hearing threshold in lower frequencies of the fishermen was higher than expected. Further studies will be needed to analyze the audiologic characteristics of noise-induced hearing loss of the fishermen after confirming noise exposure by conducting a survey on the working environment, such as the noise level and working hours.
