Relationships between Breast Cancer and Common Non-Communicable Disease Risk Factors: an Ecological Study

  • Background: Breast cancer is one the most common cause of cancer-related deaths among women worldwide. The aims of this study were to investigate the impact of dietary factors and health status indicators on breast cancer (BC) incidence. Materials and Methods: Risk factor data (RFD) of 89,404 individuals (15-64 years old) were gathered by questionnaire and laboratory examinations through a cross sectional study from the Non-Communicable Disease Surveillance Centre (NCDSC) of Iran. BC incidences of all provinces through 2001-2006 segregated by age and gender were obtained from the Cancer Registry Ministry of Health (CRMH). Results: a significant positive relationship was seen between diabetes mellitus, fish comsupmption, percent of academic education and non-consumption of fruit, and breast cancer in women. However, non fish consumption, percent age illiteracy and taking fruit showed a significant negative relationship with the incidence of breast cancer. In addition, multiple linear regression analysis showed associations among percentage with academic education, fruit consumption and diabetes. Conclusions: We conclude that dietary factors such as fish and furit consumption, dairy products, health status indicators, academic education, and some diseases like diabetes mellitus can affect the BC incidence, although the results of ecologic studies like this must naturally be interpreted with caution.

Preliminary trials on effectiveness of MTR(Mass Transfer Reactor) system in aerating fish stocks

  • An advanced mobile technology is described for saturating water with oxygen. The MTR(Mass Transfer Reactor) is 2~10 times more effective in dissolving oxygen in water compared to most other systems used in aquaculture, because it can generate extremely small(0.005~0.05mm) bubbles. New fish farming facilities could make use of this technology to build deeper ponds for raising multiple species with optimized conditions for DO(dissolved oxygen), food, light, etc. The proposed technology offers higher DO levels with minimal operating costs. It is easy to use and maintain, with a high reproducibility. Accordingly, the MTR can be industrially applied in the treatment of fish waste and reduction of water consumption during fish farming.

노래미, Agrammus agrammus의 일간섭식량 추정법과 추정 (Estimation and Methods Estimating Daily Food Consumption of Agrammus agrammus)

  • 본 연구는 치안생물군집에서 영양단계간 물질의 유동량을 파악하기 위하여 경상남도 삼천포시 신수도 연안에 서식하는 노래미의 일간섭식량을 추정하는 방법과 섭식량을 추정한 것이다. 추정식은 위만복도의 일주변화를 나타내는 수리모델로부터 유도하였다. 일간섭식량은 어류의 섭식률 또는 위배출률에 의해서 구할 수 있었으나 섭식률보다는 위배출률을 사용하여 추정하는 것이 더욱 이상적이었다. 위배출률에 의한 어체 1미당 일간섭식량을 연령군별로 보면, 0세군은 1.9856g/day였고, 1세군과 2세군은 각각 3.4725g/day와 4.4418g/day였으며, 3세군과 4세군은 각각 5.8168g/day와 7.2113g/day였다. 이 일간섭식량을 어체중량에 대한 백분율로서 나타내면, 0세군은 $9.35\%$, 1세군은 $6.65\%$, 2세군은 $5.76\%$, 3세군은 $4.72\%$, 4세군은 $5.31\%$였다. 따라서, 본 어종의 일간섭식량은 어체의 체중이 증가할수록 증가하였지만, 단위체중당 일간섭식량은 체중이 증가할 수록 감소하였다. 위배출률에 의한 연간섭식량을 보면, 생후 0.25세부터 1.0세까지는 529.98g, 생후 1.0세부터 2.0세까지는 1,269.28g, 생후 2.0세부터 3.0세까지는 1,622.76g, 생후 3.0세부터 4.0세까지는 2,125.57g 생후 4.0세부터 4.5세까지는 1,316.09g이었다. 한편, 노래미 1미가 생후 0.25세부터 4.5세까지 성장하는 동안에 섭식하는 먹이 생물의 량은 6,863.68g이었다. 위배출률에 의한 일간섭식량$(D_r)$과 어체의 평균전장(L) 또는 평균체중(W) 간의 관계식은 다음과 같다. $$Dr=0.036L^{1.702}$$, $$Dr=0.254W^{0.664}$$.

  • In Side of Supply and Demand of Fisheries Products, The Aquacultural Industry stayed in subsidized situation for the whole fishery industry of korea when it's dawned. But nowaday, the Aquacultural Industry has been developed to unique industry itself, and it could be said the Hoe - korean style Sashimi or Sushi culture of korea can't exist without its aquacultural industry. So it could be said that the Aquacultural industry is not only a part of the fishery industry but also inevitable unique industry. The main objective of this paper is to analysis the present situation for production of Flatfish, distribution of Flatfish, and consumption structure of Flatfish. Especially, the production for aquacultural Flatfish in 2005 has been raised over 38 times against the production in 1990, and it takes the status as the major fish which leads the domestic aqua cultural industry compare with others. The distribution of Flatfish can be divided to the domestic and export mainly. In field of its domestic distribution, Flatfish is the major item with Rockfish, and the deal of its over 90% happens in Similarity Fishery Wholesale Markets such as In-chon, Ha-nam, and Bu-san Fishery Wholesale Market not in the common distribution process of the fishery products. At present, the exporting of Flatfish take 13.9% among the whole Aquacultural Industry of korea, and Flatfish mainly export to Japan. Also, through the development of chinese economy, Hoe consumption culture is expanded gradually. And the future of exporting Flatfish is very bright because of developing of the U.S. market. The brief introduction of the consumption style of live fish is as belows. According to the research, generally the most of korean consumers prefer individual item as their food to combination style in korean Hoe consumption culture and the favorite item of korean consumers are Flatfish and Rockfish.

국내 단백질 소비시장 동향: 축산물, 수산물, 식물성 단백질 식품을 중심으로 (Protein Consumption Market Trends in Korea: Focusing on Meat, Fishery, and Plant-based Protein Foods)

  • This study aims to investigate protein consumption market trends in Korea. Protein consumption was divided according to the protein source into meat, fishery, and plant-based protein. To accomplish the goal of this study, food purchase data from 525 households panels collected by the Rural Development Administration over the last 10 years were used. The results of the study showed an increase or decrease in protein consumption by protein type over the last 10 years, and a reason to explain this change has been suggested. Specifically, this study found a dramatic increase in the consumption of several proteins, including beef sirloin, beef tenderloin, seasoned beef & steak, pork belly, pork shoulder, pork neck, seasoned pork, pork cutlet, sweet and sour pork, canned ham, chicken drumstick, chicken breast, dak gangjeong, Chinese fried chili chicken, salmon, eel, abalone, squid, octopus, webfoot octopus, octopus minor, canned whelk, tofu, cold bean soup,and plant-based milk. Some items showed no increase in consumption (such as beef jerky, pork rib, sausage, bacon, whole raw chicken, cutlass fish, oyster, fish cake, crab stick, surimi sausage,and canned fishery), whereas a few items showed decreased consumption (e.g., mackerel, pollack, cod,and canned tuna)

어패류와 그 제품 섭취양상에 따른 두발중 총수은 및 유기수은 함량 (Mercury Contents of Scalp Hair by Consumption Pattern of Fishes, Shellfishes and its Products)

  • 어패류 섭취양상에 따른 총수은 및 유기수은의 체내 축적정도를 조사하기 위하여 1991년 6월부터 8월 사이에 경북지방의 해안지역, 도시지역 및 산간지역에서 남자국민학생 115명과 남자 성인 131명, 총 246명의 두발중 총수은 및 유기수은 함량을 수은분석장치 (Model IL 440)를 갖춘 원자흡광분광광도계 (Model IL 551)로 선택적 환원기화법에 의해 분석하였다. 학생군의 경우 생선 및 조개류와 생선통조림 및 어묵류를 선호하는 군의 두발중 총수은(각각 7.728ppm, 6.969ppm) 및 유기수은 함량(각각 6.610ppm, 5.885ppm)이 육류(총수은; 4.822ppm, 유기수은; 3.905ppm)나 야채류(총수은; 3.974ppm, 유기수은; 3.224 ppm)를 선호하는 집단보다 현저히 높았다(각각 p<0.01). 생선통조림을 먹는 방법에 따른 두발중 총수은 및 유기수은 함량은 그대로 먹는 경우가 야채사라다와 섞어서 또는 찌개로 먹는 경우보다 높게 나타났다(p<0.01). 생선통조림, 생선 조리반찬 및 생선회 섭취빈도가 많을 수록 두발중 총수은과 유기수은 함량이 많아 거의 매일 먹는 군이 거의 먹지 않는 군에 비해 2배 이상 높게 나타났으며(p<0.01), 생선을 주로 먹는 방법에 따라서는 회로 먹는 경우가 탕이나 구워서 먹는 경우 보다 현저히 높았다(p<0.01). 성인군의 경우 연령에 따른 두발중 수은 함량은 총수은과 유기수은 함량 모두 40대까지는 연령증가에 따라 증가했으나, 50대 이후는 약간 감소하였다. 직업별로는 어업 및 횟집 종사자가 농부에 비해 2배 이상 높았다. 또한 선호반찬 종류에 따라서는 생선 및 조개류를 선호하는 군이 가장 높았으며, 생선을 먹는 방법에 따른 두발중 수은 함량은 회로 먹는 군이 탕이나 구워서 먹는 군보다 2배 이상 높은 수준을 나타내었다. 생선회, 생선조리반찬 섭취빈도에 따른 두발중 총수은 및 유기수은 함량은 섭취빈도가 증가함에 따라 높아지는 경향을 보였다(각각 p<0.01). 이상의 결과로 보아 두발중 수은 함량은 어패류와 생선통조림의 섭취 빈도가 높을 수록 증가하였으나 중독증상을 나타낼 수 있는 농도에는 크게 못 미쳤다.

대구.경북지역 단체급식에서 생선류의 기호도 조사 (Preference Survey on Fishes in Daegu.Gyeongbuk Area Institutional Food Service)

  • In this study, preferences and eating frequency of fish were surveyed in 390 foodservice employees in the Gyeongbuk and Daegu areas. The most common response to degree of fish intake was 'half eaten'. In the home, 'fish intake 1~2 times per a week' was chosen as the most common response. There was a significant difference(p<.05) in the frequency of fish consumption based on gender. 'Fish intake 3~5 times per a week' was most commonly chosen by subjects under 20 and over 60 years, whereas the most common response in those 41~60 and 21~40 years old was 'fish intake 1~2 times per a week'. The most preferred method of fish cooking was 'roast', 'frozen pollack' Tang was chosen as the favorite Tang(soup) dish and 'Hairtail' was chosen as the favorite boiled and grilled fish dish. Reasons for avoiding or preferring fish were related to 'tastes and recipes'. 'Mackerel' was the favorite dish for both men and women. 'Flatfish' and 'mackerel pike' were disliked by men and women, respectively. Cooked meat was eaten more often than fish regardless of gender. Besides, preference for meat was higher than that for fish in all age groups, except those over 60 years old. 'fish has good nutrition and health' was the most common response When subjects were asked to compare fish with cooked meat.

해산 어류 양식장 가두리의 DO수지 -곤리도 방어 양식장의 경우- (Dissolved Oxygen Budget in Floating Net Cage of Fish Farm at the Coastal Area -In case of yellow tail farm in Konli-Do-)

  • 본 연구는 1987년 9월 8일, 9일 양일간에 걸쳐 24시간 동안 곤리도 금성수산 방어 가두리 양식장에서 해산어류 양식장${\cdot}$가두리의 방양한도를 산정하는데 기초자료로 쓰일 수 있는 용존산소 수지를 해석해 보기 위하여 실시하였다. 가두리에 수용된 당년생 방어 2,800kg이 1일간 소비하는 산소량은 $3.09g/m^3$였고, 가두리 안의 수체에 의하여 소비되는 산소량은 $1.24g/m^2{\cdot}day$였으며, 수중 식물성 플랑크톤에 의해 생산공급된 산소량과 대기로 부터 해수중으로 녹아 들어간 산소량의 합계는 수중 유기물의 분해와 플랑크톤의 호흡을 포함하는 수조자체의 산소소비량의 $43\%$를 감당하는 수준이었고, 그 나머지 $57\%$와 사육어가 소비하는 다량의 산소는 가두리 안밖으로 교류하는 해수유동에 의하여 공급되고 있었다. 이 어장의 가두리에 수용할 어체량은 해수교환율에 의해 결정되는 듯이 보이며, 어장내의 조류에 대한 가두리 배치방식에 따라 해수교환율이 달라지게 될 것이므로 가두리마다의 해수유통에 따라 수용량을 조정할 필요가 있다 하겠다.

한국 연안산 졸복(Takifugu pardalis)과 복섬(Takifugu niphobles)의 독성 (Toxicity of the Puffer fish, Takifugu pardalis (Jolbok) and Takifugu niphobles (Bokseom) from Coastal Area of Korea)

  • The toxicity of two species of puffer fish, Takifugu pardalis and T. niphobles, collected from the coastal regions of Korea was determined using a mouse bioassay. In T. pardalis collected at Tongyeong, the proportion of toxic specimens containing ${\geq}10MU/g$ exceeded 90% for the skin, fins, liver, intestine, ovary, and gallbladder, 11.1% for the testis, and 6.9% for the muscle. In each of the organs, the highest toxin levels were several tens (14-39) of mouse units (MU) per gram in the muscle, testis, and eyeball, but thousands (1,444-5,755) of MU per gram in the skin, liver, intestine, ovary, and gallbladder. The organs of T. pardalis exhibited remarkable variation in toxicity. In T. niphobles, the proportion of toxic specimens exceeded 90% for the ovary and skin, 60-80% for the fins, liver, intestine, and gallbladder, and 4.5% for the muscle; no toxicity was detected in the testis or eyeball using the mouse bioassay. The highest toxin levels were thousands (2,291-7,777) of MU per gram in the liver, intestine, ovary, and gallbladder, hundreds(146-328) of MU per gram in the skin and fins, and 18 MU/g in the muscle. Takifugu niphobles toxicity also exhibited remarkable regional variation. The toxicity in the edible muscle of T. pardalis and T. niphobles was at acceptable levels for human consumption, while the toxicity of the skin of both species of puffer fish was very high, so that care must be taken when used for human consumption.

육상 수조식 양식장의 해수 열원 히트펌프 시스템 적용을 위한 열부하 분석 (Thermal load analysis of tank culture system for applying seawater source heat pump)

  • This study deals with the maximum thermal load analysis and optimal capacity determination method of tank culture system for applying seawater source heat pump to save energy and realize zero energy. The location of the fish farm was divided into four sea areas, and the heat load in summer and winter was analyzed, respectively. In addition, two representative methods, the flow-through aquaculture system and the recirculation aquaculture system were reviewed as water treatment methods for fish farms. In addition, the concept of the exchange rate was introduced to obtain the maximum heat load of the fish farms. Finally, power consumption for heat pumps was analyzed in the view point of sea areas, tank capacity, and exchange rate based on the calculated maximum thermal load.
