  • Normal development of the olfactory placode was studied to describe the sequence of events involved in the development of the olfactory placode. It has been primarily concerned with the morphological differentiation of the sensory neurons, their initial growth, maturation patterns and the contacts of their axons with the primitive prosencephalic vesicle. The olfactory organ first appears at stage 23 as a paired thickening of the two ectodermal layers: the superficial non-nervous layer (NNL) and the inner nervous layer (NL). Receptor cells differentiate from the NL and the supporting cells develop from the NNL. After stage 26 the placodal cells begin to migrate toward the epithelial surface between the NNL cells and their apical processes reach the surface at stage 28. As the apical process reaches the epithelial surface, basal processes (presumptive axons) sprout from the base of the NL cells at stage 29/30. They penetrate the underlying telencephalon by stage 32. Sensory synaptic contacts first appear at stage 37/38. Some placodal cells remain at the olfactory epithelium as basal cells while other placodal cells differentiate into olfactory neurons. The results confirmed that neurons originate exclusively from the nervous layer of the ectoderm while supporting cells originate from the NNL layer. The results also indicate that the development of olfactory neuron is independent of information from the target ftssue.

  • This study was carried out to acquire basic data necessary for the use of rice-straw chemical pulp. It investigated the proper bleaching conditions when rice-straw chemical pulp(alkaline sulfite-${Na_2}{S_2}{O_4}$) was bleached using the various kinds of bleaching agents by the two-stages bleaching methods. And, physical properties of pulps bleached with eight kinds of two-stages bleaching methods were tested. The results of this study were as follow; 1. The first-stage bleaching was conducted under the proper conditions with chlorine(C). And then, the proper conditions related to the calcium chlorite(H), hydrogen peroxide(P) and sodium hydrosulfite(Y) bleaching as the second-stage bleaching were investigated. The proper conditions of CH stage were determined to be 0.3% concentration of calcium chlorite, $30^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature and 20min. of reaction time. For CP stage, the proper conditions of concentration of hydrogen peroxide, reaction temperature and reaction time were 1.5%, $60^{\circ}C$ and 90min., respectively. And for CY stage, the proper conditions were 0.5% concentration of sodium hydrosulfite, $40^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature and 90min. of reaction time. 2. The first-stage bleaching was conducted under the proper conditions with chlorine dioxide(D). And then, the proper conditions related to the calcium chlorite(H), hydrogen peroxide(P) and sodium hydrosulfite(Y) bleaching as the second-stage bleaching were investigated. The proper conditions of DH stage were determined to be 0.5% concentration of calcium chlorite, $25^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature and 5min. of reaction time. For DP stage, the proper conditions of concentration of hydrogen peroxide, reaction temperature and reaction time were 1.0%, $70^{\circ}C$ and 90min., respectively. And for DY stage, the proper conditions were 0.3% concentration of sodium hydrosulfite, $50^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature and 20min. of reaction time. 3. The first-stage bleaching was conducted under the proper conditions with calcium chlorite(H). kAnd then, the proper conditions related to the hydrogen peroxide(P) and sodium hydrosulfite(Y) bleaching as the second-stage bleaching were investigated. The proper conditions of HP stage were determined to be 0.3% concentration of hydrogen peroxide, $30^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature and 60min. of reaction time. For HY stage, the proper conditions of concentration of sodium hydrosulfite, reaction temperature and reaction time were 2.5%, $60^{\circ}C$ and 30min., respectively. 4. When the rice-straw chemical pulps were bleached with eight kinds of two-stages bleaching methods in the proper conditions mentioned above, respectively, the final brightnesses after CH, CP, CY, DH, DP, DY, HP, and HY bleachings were 62.0, 74.3, 61.4, 58.9, 66.9, 62.9, 50.4 and 60.1, respectively. And strengthes of pulps bleached with DP and DH methods were comparatively higher than those of pulps bleached with other bleaching methods.

  • We examined the correlations between lactation curve shape, including persistency and changes in body condition score (BCS) during early-stage (0 to 30 days in milk (DIM)), nadir-stage (31 to 90 DIM), and late-stage (91 to 240 DIM) lactation in 191 first-lactation cows. Data used were first-parity BCS records, scored twice every month after calving, and daily milk yields. Individual lactation curves were depicted by the Wilmink function. Lactation persistency was defined as the difference in estimated milk yields between 240 DIM and 60 DIM. Changes in BCSs in the early and late stages were defined as linear regression coefficients. There were no significant correlations between traits for lactation curve shape and change in BCS in early-stage lactation. Peak yield and total milk yield were negatively correlated with BCSs in nadir- and late-stage lactation and with BCS change in late-stage lactation, suggesting that cows with high lactation yields had low body reserves and health status in mid- to late lactation and had delayed recovery of body reserves. Lactation persistency was positively correlated with change in BCS in late-stage lactation, suggesting that cows with high lactation persistency tended to be healthy and to recover their body reserves well in late lactation.

  • The purpose of this study is to illustrate the design of safety suits based on energy-harvesting technology, particularly targeting street cleaners who must work at night with high mobility. The design focuses on applying lightweight energy-harvesting tools and illuminant into the wear. The design development reflects feedback from testers collected via survey constituting a key methodology. The development process has two main stages. Each stage uses a process of design prototyping, internal examination, test sampling, test wearing, and wearers' feedback via survey that consists of questions on visibility, wearing convenience, and washability. The first stage results show the design of safety suits with energy-harvested LED illuminant inserted and the survey results collected from street cleaners dressed in 4 sample and 80 actual suits in total. Improved based on the first-stage survey results, the second stage designs the suits with detachable energy-harvested EL tape. From these 5 sample and 30 actual second-stage suits, the additional survey indicates that this second-stage design facilitates more visibility and convenience in washing and wearing than the first-stage design. Accordingly, one can expect that this new design can apply not only to safety suits for night workers but also to handicapped or outdoor sportswear applications in the future.

  • Tooth development is usually described in four stages such as bud stage, cap stage, bell stage and crown stage. Exact time of appearance of tooth primordia is different among reports, and up to now there is no timetable regarding initial tooth development. To understand the congenital malformations and other disorders of the orofacial region, there is a need to establish a standard timetable on early tooth development. Till now, studies on the tooth development were mainly on later fetuses, and only few reports on early stage. Also, there were no reports on the time when bud stage turns to cap stage, and cap stage to bell stage. In this study, external morphology of face and the early development of the tooth, and transition of bud stage to cap stage, cap stage to bell stage were studied using 27 staged human embryos and 9 serially sectioned human fetuses. The results are as follows: 1. Mandibular region was formed by union of both mandibular arch at stage 15, and maxillary region by union of maxillary arch, medial nasal prominence, and intermaxillary segment at stage 19. 2. Ectodermal thickening which represents the primordia of tooth appeared in mandibular region at stage 13, and maxillary region at stage 15. 3. Bud stage began from mandibular primary central incisor at stage 17, and maxillary primary central incisor at stage 18. And the sequence of appearance was in the mandibular primary lateral incisor at stage 19, maxillary primary lateral incisor at stage 20, mandibular primary canine at stage 22, maxillary primary canine and primary first molar at stage 23, madibular primary first molar and maxillary primary second molar at 9th week, and mandibular primary second molar at 10th week of development. 4. Cap stage began from the primary anterior teeth at 9th week, and primary second molar still had the characteristics of cap stage at 12th week of development. 5. Transition to bell stage started from the primary anterior teeth at 12th week, and primary second molar started at 16th week of development. 6. Trnasition to crown stage started from primary anterior teeth at 16th week, and primary second molar at 26th week of development.

  • Variable concept plays a crucial role in understanding not only algebra itself but also school mathematics which is algebra-oriented. It solves as an essential means in applying mathematics to the real world because il enables us to describe varying phenomena in the real world. In this study, we examined some matters related to the learning of variable concept in school mathematics. In Particular, we discussed on the teaching of variable concept in the [7-first] stage of the 7th Mathematics Curriculum. We analysed the textbooks in the [7-first] stage and attempted to explain concretely the contents and teaching methods of variable concept which be taught in school mathematics. After reconsidering the practices on variable concept teaching, we pointed out the problems of formalistic teaching method and then proposed the direction in which variable concept teaching should go.

  • In this paper, 'relations of proportion are used in the introduction of function concept' in 7-first stage of 7th mathematics curriculum is focused. Under the assumption that above statement means dependence-centered view in the teaching of function, the contents of function In 7-first stage is interpreted. Some issues are critically contemplated, And, finally, statement of using relations of proportion in the introduction of function concept is interpreted as dependence-centered view in the teaching of function. Conclusions are as follows: (1) symbol y= f(x) is not inevitable. (2) Term 'codomain' must not be used. (3) Term 'range of x' and 'range of y' must be used. (4) Term 'independent variable' and 'dependent variable' must be used.

  • Patients at the same pathological stage of esophageal cancer (EC) that received the same surgical therapy by the same surgeon may have distinct prognoses. The current study aimed to explore the possibility of differentially-expressed microRNAs (miRNAs) underlying this phenomenon. Samples were collected from EC patients at the same tumor node metastasis (TNM) stage but with different prognoses. Paracancerous normal tissues were taken as controls. The specimens were histopathologically analyzed. Differentially-expressed miRNAs were analyzed using real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. Compared with patients with poor prognosis, those with good prognosis exhibited 88 two-fold or more than two-fold increased miRNA fragments and 4 half-decreased miRNAs. The most noticeably up-regulated miRNAs included hsa-miR-31, hsa-miR-196b, hsa-miR-652, hsa-miR-125a-5p, hsa-miR-146b, hsa-miR-200c, hsa-miR-23b, hsa-miR-29a, hsa-miR-186, hsa-miR-205, hsa-miR-376a, hsa-miR-410, hsa-miR-532-3p, and hsa-miR-598, whereas the most significantly-downregulated miRNAs were hsa-let-7e, hsa-miR-130b, and hsa-miR-103. EC patients at same TNM stage but with different prognoses show differentially-expressed miRNAs.
