A Study of Smoke Exhaust Facility Operation of Subway Platform with Installation of Platform Screen Door (승강장 스크린도어 설치에 따른 배연설비운영에 대한 연구)

  • A study on fire phenomena in a subway transit mass station has been carried out as a part of disaster prevention plan at the subway station. The ventilation facilities installed in both the platform and the trackway are designed to convert into a smoke exhaust system in emergency situation, creating such an environment as necessary for evacuation. 3 dimensional Numerical Simulations based on the CFD are carried out using a simulation tool, Fire Dynamic Simulator. Additionally, four different vent modes are made and performances are compared with the original design mode and each other to find better operation of vents at both the platform and the trackway in case of fire. From the result, an vent operational characteristics under the condition of installed PSD is clarified for the effective smoke and heat removal from the platform area compared with non installed PSD.

A Study of Kernel Characteristics of CNN Deep Learning for Effective Fire Detection Based on Video (영상기반의 화재 검출에 효과적인 CNN 심층학습의 커널 특성에 대한 연구)

  • In this paper, a deep learning method is proposed to detect the fire effectively by using video of surveillance camera. Based on AlexNet model, classification performance is compared according to kernel size and stride of convolution layer. Dataset for learning and interfering are classified into two classes such as normal and fire. Normal images include clouds, and foggy images, and fire images include smoke and flames images, respectively. As results of simulations, it is shown that the larger kernel size and smaller stride shows better performance.

  • Fuel cell (FC) distributed generation (DG) is gradually becoming more attractive to mainstream electricity users as capacity improves and costs decrease. New technologies including inverters are becoming available to provide a uniform standard interconnection of DGs with an electric power system. Some of the operating conflicts and the effect of DG on power quality are addressed and investigated through simulations on a real distribution network with an FC power plant. The results of these simulations have proved load tracking capability following the real and reactive power change of the load and have shown the flow of overcurrent from an FC power plant during the ground fault of a distribution line.

Estimation of FDS Prediction Performance on the Operation of Water-Mist (미세물분무 작동에 대한 FDS 예측 성능 평가)

  • The aim of the present study was to estimate the prediction performance of a FDS (Fire Dynamic Simulator) to simulate the fire behaviors and suppression characteristics by operating a water-mist. Rosin-Rammler/log-normal distribution function was used to determine the initial droplet distribution of water-mist and the effects of its model constant were considered. In addition, the simulation models were validated by a comparison of the predicted fire suppression characteristics with water-mist injection pressures to the previous experiments, and the thermal flow behaviors and gaseous concentration variations were analyzed. The results showed that water-mists with the same mean diameter were affected by the characteristics of the droplet size distribution, which have different size and velocity distributions at the downstream location. The fire simulations conducted in this study determine the initial droplet size distribution tuned to the base of the spray characteristics measured by previous experiments. The simulation results showed good agreement with the previous measurements for temperature variations and fire suppression characteristics. In addition, it was confirmed that the FDS simulation with a water-mist operation supplies useful details on estimations of the thermal flow fields and gaseous concentration under water mist operation conditions.

A Numerical Study on the Effect of Coefficient of Restitution to Heat Transfer in a Conical Fluidized Bed Combustor (원추형 유동층 연소기 내의 열전달에 미치는 복원계수의 영향에 대한 수치해석 연구)

  • In this paper, numerical simulations on conical fluidized bed combustors were carried out to estimate the effect of coefficients of restitution between particle and particle and particle to wall on hydrodynamics and heat transfer. The Eulerian-Eulerian two-fluid model was used to simulate the hydrodynamics and heat transfer in a conical fluidized bed combustor. The solid phase properties were calculated by applying the kinetic theory of granular flow. Simulations results show that increasing the restitution coefficient between the particle and particle results in increasing the bed pressure drop. On other hand, the increasing of particle to wall coefficient of restitution results in decreasing the bed pressure drop. It is found that the coefficient of restitution has little effect on heat transfer.

A Study of An Initial Alignment Method of Underwater Vehicle Dropped from Aircraft (항공기에서 투하되는 수중운동체의 초기정렬기법 연구)

  • The Strap Down Inertial Measurement Unit(SDIMU) is recently used for the sensor package of the modern underwater vehicles such as torpedoes and unmanned underwater-vehicles. For using SDIMU, an initial alignment must be carried out before the fire or navigation stage. The general initial alignment methods require that a mother vehicle Is a stationary condition or the Inertial Navigation System(INS) of vehicle is received the specific of data navigation from the mother vehicle. But an underwater vehicle dropped from aircraft is hard to satisfy above both necessary conditions of the general initial alignment. So, we suggest a new strap down initial alignment method of an underwater vehicle dropped from aircraft without using any aided sensors. The highlight point of this method is that a period of initial alignment is not before the fire but during running stage to fix alignment error. And we verify it by analyzing various data of S/W simulations, Hardware In the Loop Simulation(HILS) tests and sea trials.

Selection of Grid Size in Fire Simulation for Large Scale Buildings by Using FDS (FDS를 이용한 대규모 건축물 화재 시뮬레이션의 격자크기 선정)

  • Fire simulation was carried out for an enclosure with three doorways of $20{\times}10{\times}3m^3$ and a cleanroom of $44{\times}48{\times}10m^3$, to suggest appropriate grid size in fire simulations by using of FDS for large scale buildings. The variations of temperature and visibility with time were compared for the x and y direction grid sizes of 0.1~1.0 m (aspect ratios 0.5~5.0), fixing the z direction grid size 0.2 m. The results showed that the grid sizes 0.5 m (aspect ratio 2.5) or smaller are appropriate among the grid sizes tested, whereas 1.0 m is not acceptable. It was confirmed that estimate of the available safe egress time requires a great care due to fluctuations in temperature, visibility, etc., and further investigations on the grid size when selecting a large grid size inevitable, and on the aspect ratios for a larger grid are in need.

An Evaluation for the Fire Resistance of Concrete-Filled Steel Square Tube Columns under Constant Axial Loads (일정 축력을 받는 콘크리트충전 각형 강관기둥의 내화성능 평가)

  • The aim of this research is to evaluate the fire resistance of concrete-filled steel square tube columns (square CFT columns) under constant axial loads by numerical analysis. The authors examined the experimental results on the fire resistance of concrete-filled steel square tube columns without fire protection. As the materials of CFT columns, steel of SPSR 400 grade and concrete of 27.5MPa and 37.8MPa strengths were used. The significant parameters were determined, such as load ratio, cross-sectional dimensions, and concrete strength. Detailed analytical simulations of fire resistance and axial deformation showed good agreement with the experimental observations. Therefore, this numerical analysis exhibited a reasonable estimation of fire resistance of the square CFT column. Results of the numerical parametric studies showed that the fire resistance of the CFT columns increased with the decrease of the concrete strength and the increase of the cross-sectional dimensions about the constant axial load ratio ($N/N_c$).

  • In this study, using the FDS as the fire simulation and evacuation simulations of the Pathfinder, set the main control room of the building to the fire point fire safety assessment studies were carried out. At first the quantitative result such as distribution of visibility as time passing, distribution of temperature, distribution of CO density produced results using fire-simulation and evacuation-simulation was carried out based on the result that produced the final safety evaluation result as being calculated of evacuation time. As the risk increased with the distribution of visibility at the result of fire-simulation, evacuation-simulation was carried out using the result. Finally the result was made 127.9 sec that everyone could evacuate. The numerical results are analyzed in case of the places in the building required safe egress time for safety a as the analysis to be no more than available safe egress time was analyzed to be secured. The results of this safety evaluation represent that more smooth evacuation safety performance can be secured by linking the event of fire firefighting equipment as a result of simulating the worst conditions.

Numerical Study on Air Egress Velocity of Ancillary Room Pressurization Systems in Apartment Fires (공동주택 화재 시 부속실 가압 시스템의 방연풍속에 관한 수치해석적 연구)

  • In this study, numerical simulations were performed on the air egress velocity of pressurization systems in an ancillary room when a fire occurred in an apartment house. The relationship between the air supply flow rate of a damper and air egress velocity at a fire door is predicted to be linear. Additionally, a minimum flow rate of the damper, which meets national fire safety standards for air egress velocity, i.e., 0.7 m/s can be estimated. Air egress velocity at the fire door is analyzed according to the supply air direction and installation height of the damper. When the damper has an upward supply air direction and is installed at a high level, the egress velocity at the top section of the fire door is larger, whereas the soot concentration at the ancillary room is lower than when the supply direction of the damper is downward. Therefore, it is found that increasing the air egress velocity at the top section of the fire door helps to efficiently prevent the inflow of smoke.
