In rough seas, actual behaviours of a ship may not be estimated by the linear strip theory, because of Nonlinearities due to the hull shape, bottom slamming and bottom and/or bow-flare slamming. In case of slamming, impulsive hydrodynamic pressure occurs on the fore body surface of the ship, resulting hull vibration called whipping, by which the ship may suffer from serious structural damages and the impact pressure, depends critically on the relative velocity at re-entry. In this paper, the Time history of impact froce at each station, the longitudinal distribution of impact force at critical time, the Time history of acceleration at F.P. and the Time history of Bending moment at midship are illustrated. That is, authors analyzed Dynamic response of container ship to be subjected slamming impact force.

Regarding the plate bending process by line heating method, in this study a simplified numerical analysis is performed for a beam model to predict its residual deformation and stress distribution. Using the modified strip theory and beam finite element method, a PC-based simulation program is developed for a thermo-elastic-plastic beam. The plate bending problem can be approximately replaced by a beam model using distributed springs to account for the effect of adjacent strips. The spring constants are chosen as the best fit with experiments. In this paper, it is assumed that the temperature distribution is already given and the temperature-dependent material properties are considered. To verify the simulation program, the results using present numerical algorithm are compared with other published experimental results and similar numerical studies. The comparison shows good agreement. The present PC-based computer program also shows good efficiency in computing time.
Generally, a vertical rolling process is used to achieve extensive width reduction in hot strip mill. However, it is impossible to avoid the defects such as dog-bone and edge-seam defect. The sizing press process has been developed in response to the defects mentioned above. Especially, this study is carried out to investigate the deformation of slab by two-step sizing press. The deformation behavior of slab in the sizing press process is more favorable than that in conventional vertical rolling edger. The FE-simulation is applied to predict the deformation behavior of the slab. In this paper, the several causes of the asymmetrical deformation are mentioned for the purpose of understanding of the anvil shape. Load, dog-bone and edge-seam defect are discussed in width sizing process considering the anvil shape. And to reduce the problems generated at rougher mill just after sizing press, these are studied in this paper. The deformation behavior of slabs and optimum anvil shape are obtained by rigid-plastic finite element analyses and neural network.

The aim of the present study is to develop a direct structural analysis system for more reliable and effective structural safety estimation of floating tripe ocean structures. In this system, the following three modules are included; i.e., a rigid body motion analysis module based on the three dimensional panel method, a structural analysis module, and a stochastic analysis module based on short and long term spectral analysis techniques. The structural analysis module consists of the general purpose finite element analysis program NASTRAN and the automatic load data generation program LOADGEN. As an illustrative example, the developed system is applied to structural design of a PILOT Barge Mounted Plant(BMP). Results of the structural analysis are compared with those obtained using a two dimensional strip method.
Nowadays CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer) became widely used materials for the strengthening and retrofitting of structures. Many experimental and analytical studies are encountered at literature about strengthening beams by using this kind of materials against static loads and cyclic loads such as earthquake or wind loading for investigating their behavior. But authors did not found any study about strengthening of RC beams by using CFRP against low velocity impact and investigating their behavior. For these reasons an experimental study is conducted on totally ten strengthened RC beams. Impact loading is applied on to specimens by using an impact loading system that is designed by authors. Investigated parameters were concrete compression strength and drop height. Two different sets of specimens with different concrete compression strength tested under the impact loading that are applied by dropping constant weight hammer from five different heights. The acceleration arises from the impact loading is measured against time. The change of velocity, displacement and energy are calculated for all specimens. The failure modes of the specimens with normal and high concrete compression strength are observed under the loading of constant weight impact hammer that are dropped from different heights. Impact behaviors of beams are positively affected from the strengthening with CFRP. Measured accelerations, the number of drops up to failure and dissipated energy are increased. Finite element analysis that are made by using ABAQUS software is used for the simulation of experiments, and model gave compatible results with experiments.
This study aimed to find out the pullout capacity of inclined strip anchor plate embedded in anisotropic and nonhomogeneous fully saturated cohesive soil in undrained condition. The ultimate pullout load has been found out by using numerical lower bound finite element analysis with linear programming. The undrained pullout capacity of anchor plate of width B is determined for different embedment ratios (H/B) varying from 3 to 7 and various inclination of anchor plates ranging from $0^{\circ}$ to $90^{\circ}$ with an interval of $15^{\circ}$. In case of anisotropic fully saturated clay the variation of cohesion with direction has been considered by varying the ratio of the cohesion along vertical direction ($c_v$) to the cohesion along horizontal direction ($c_h$). In case of nonhomogeneous clay the cohesion of the undrained clay has been considered to be increased with depth below ground surface keeping $c_v/c_h=1$. The results are presented in terms of pullout capacity factor ($F_{c0}=p_u/c_H$) where $p_u$ is the ultimate pullout stress along the anchor plate at failure and $c_H$ is the cohesion in horizontal direction at the level of the middle point of the anchor plate. It is observed that the pullout capacity factor increases with an increase in anisotropic cohesion ratio ($c_v/c_h$) whereas the pullout capacity factor decreases with an increase in undrained cohesion of the soil with depth.

In this study, the seismic behavior of an all-steel buckling-restrained (AB) steel plate shear wall (SPSW) with incline slits under fire and cyclic loading was investigated. ABSPSW was composed of two thin steel infill plates with a narrow distance from each other, which were embedded with incline slits on each plate. These slits were in opposite directions to each other. The finite element (FE) numerical model was validated with three test specimens and after ensuring the modeling strategy, the parametric study was performed by considering variables such as wall plate thickness, slit width, strip width between two slits, and degree of temperature. A total of 256 FE numerical models were subjected to coupled temperature-displacement analysis. The results of the analysis showed that the high temperature reduced the seismic performance of the ABSPSW so that at 917℃, the load-bearing capacity was reduced by 92%. In addition, with the increase in the temperature, the yield point of the infill plate and frame occurred in a small displacement. The average decrease in shear strength at 458℃, 642℃, and 917℃ was 18%, 46%, and 92%, respectively, compared to the shear strength at 20℃. Also, with increasing the temperature to 917℃, ductility increased by an average of 75%

The rolling force and roll deformation behavior in the twin roll type strip continuous casting process has been computed to estimate the thermal charcteristics of a caster roll. To calculation of rolling force, the relationship between flow stress and strain for a roll material and casting alloy are assumed as a function of strain-rate and temperature because mechanical properties of a casting materials depends on tempera- ture. The three dimensional thermal dlastic-plastic analysis of a cooling roll has also been carried out to obtain a roll stress and plastic strain distributions with the commercial finite element analysis package of ANSYS. Temperature fields data of caster roll which are provided by authors were used to estimated of roll deformation. Roll life considering thermal cycle is calculated by using thermal elastic-plastic analysis results. Roll life is proposed as a terms of a roll revolution in the caster roll with and without fine failure model on the roll surface. To obtain of plastic strain distributions of caster roll, thermomechan- ical properties of roll sleeve with a copper alloy is obtained by uniaxial tensile test for variation of temperature.

For long underground box utility tunnels, post-tensioned precast concrete is often used. Between precast tunnel segments, sealed waterproof flexible joints are often specified. Fault displacement can lead to excessive deformation of the joints, which can lead to reduction in waterproofing due to diminished contact pressure between the sealant strip and the tunnel segment. This paper authenticates utilization of a finite element model for a prefabricated tunnel fault-crossing founded on ABAQUS software. In addition, material parameter selection, contact setting and boundary condition are reviewed. Analyzed under normal fault action are: the influence of fault displacement; buried depth; soil friction coefficient, and angle of crossing at the fault plane. In addition, distribution characteristics of the utility tunnel structure for vertical and longitudinal/horizontal relative displacement at segmented interface for the top and bottom slab are analyzed. It is found that the effect of increase in fault displacement on the splice joint deformation is significant, whereas the effects of changes in burial depth, pipe-soil friction coefficient and fault-crossing angle on the overall tunnel and joint deformations were not so significant.
The design of foundations based on a deterministic approach may not be safe and reliable occasionally, since soils sometimes show considerable spatial variability, and thus, significant uncertainties in turn affect the estimation of footing bearing capacity. The design of footing on cohesionless stratums on the basis of reliability analysis has not received much attention. This paper performs two-dimensional random finite difference analyses of shallow strip footings on a spatially variable frictional soil considering correlation structure. Friction angle (ϕ) is considered as a log-normally distributed random variable and Monte Carlo Simulation is then performed to determine the statistical response based on the random fields. A new approach reliability-based safety factor is defined based on various reliability levels by considering the coefficient of variation of ϕ and correlation length in both the horizontal and vertical directions. The comparison of the probabilistic safety factor and the conventional one illustrates the limitations of the deterministic safety factor and provides insight into how the heterogeneity of soils properties affects the required safety factor. Results show that the conventional safety factor of 3 can be conservative in some cases, especially for soil with low values of mean ϕ and COVϕ.
