The finite element analysis for porous media is severe job because constituents have different physical peoperties, and element's continuity and stability should be considered. Thus, we propose the new mixed finite element method in order to overcome the problems. In this method, multi time step, remeshing step, and sub iteration step are introduced. The multi time step and remeshing step make it possible to satisfy a stability and an accuracy during sub iteration in which global time is determined. Finally, the proposed method is compared with the ABAQUS(2007) software and exact solution(Schiffman 1967) through two dimensional consolidation model.
A general purpose fatigue analysis software to predict fatigue lives of mechanical components and structures was developed. This software has some characteristic features including functions of searching weak regions on the free surface in order to reduce computing time significantly, a database of fatigue properties for various materials. and an expert system which can assist any users to get more proper results. This software can be used in the environment consists of commercial finite element packages. Using the software developed fatigue analyses for a SAE keyhole specimen and an automobile knuckle were carried out. It was observed that the results were agree well with those from commercial packages.

Finite element method is a very effective method to simulate the forming processes with good prediction of the deformation behaviour. For the finite element modeling of sheet mental forming the accurate die model is required. Among finite element method, the static-implicit finite element method is applied effectively to analyze real-size auto-body panel stamping processes, which include the forming stage. This study is about analyzing the stamping process problems by using AutoForm commercial software which used static-implicit method. According to this study, the results of simulation will give engineers good information to access the die design of optimization.
In this study, the hybrid and roller hemming processes of aluminum alloy sheets were compared using the finite element analysis. The aluminum alloy 6014-T4 sheet with a thickness of 1 mm was used for the hemming process. The mechanical properties of the aluminum sheet obtained through a uniaxial tensile test were used for the simulation. The finite element analysis of hybrid and roller hemming was performed using a commercial software (ABAQUS) by the use of the mechanical properties. The finite element simulation results showed that the hybrid hemming holds an advantage over the roller hemming in terms of the dimensional accuracy

Three dimensional (3D) non-linear finite element analysis of offshore pipeline is investigated in this work with the help of general purpose software Abaqus. The general algorithm for the finite element approach is introduced. The 3D seabed mesh, limited to a corridor along the pipeline, is extracted from survey data via Fledermous software. Moreover soil bearing capacity and coefficient of frictions, obtained from the field survey report, and are introduced into the finite element model through the interaction module. For a case of study, a 32inch pipeline with API 5L X65 material grade subjected to high pressure and high temperature loading is investigated in more details.
The available analytical methods of analysis for laterally loaded piles in level ground cannot be directly applied to such piles in sloping ground. With the commercially available software, the simulation of the appropriate field condition is a challenging task, and the results are subjective. Therefore, it becomes essential to understand the process of development of a user-framed numerical formulation, which may be used easily as per the specific site conditions without depending on other indirect methods of analysis as well as on the software. In the present study, a detailed three-dimensional finite element formulation is presented for the analysis of laterally loaded piles in sloping ground developing the 18 node triangular prism elements. An application of the numerical formulation has been illustrated for the pile located at the crest of the slope and for the pile located at some edge distance from the crest. The specific examples show that at any given depth, the displacement and bending moment increase with an increase in slope of the ground, whereas they decrease with increasing edge distance.
Visco-elastic material and thin metals were adhered to plate structures, forming the composite components that are similar to the sandwich plates, called constrained layered damped (CLD) plates. Constrained layer damping has been utilized for years to reduce vibration, and advances in computation and finite element analysis software have enabled various problems to be solved by computer. However, some problems consume much calculation time. The vibration equation for a constrained layered damped plate with simple supports and an impact force is obtained theoretically herein. Then, the results of the vibration equation are compared with those obtained using the finite element method (FEM) software, ABAQUS, to verify the accuracy of the theory. Finally, the 3M constrained layer damper SJ-2052 was attached to plates to form constrained layered damped plates, and the vibration equation was used to elucidate the damping effects and vibration characteristics.

Seismic assessment and rehabilitation of Monumental Buildings constitute an important issue in many regions around the world to preserve cultural heritage. On the contrary, many recent earthquakes have demonstrated the high vulnerability of this type of structures. The high nonlinear masonry behaviour requires ad hoc refined finite element numerical models, whose complexity and computational costs are generally unsuitable for practical applications. For these reasons, several authors proposed simplified numerical strategies to be used in engineering practice. However, most of these alternative methods are oversimplified being based on the assumption of in-plane behaviour of masonry walls. Moreover, they cannot be used for modelling the monumental structures for which the interaction between plane and out-plane behaviour governs the structural response. Recently, an innovative discrete-modelling approach for the simulation of both in-plane and out of-plane response of masonry structures was proposed and applied to study several typologies of historic structures. In this paper the latter model is applied with reference to a real case study, and numerically compared with an advanced finite element modelling. The method is applied to the St.Venerio church in Reggiolo (Italy), damaged during the 2012 Emilia-Romagna earthquake and numerically investigated in the literature.
A shear-deformable finite element model (FEM) with five nodes and thirteen degrees of freedom (DOFs) for free vibrations of laminated composite beams with arbitrary lay-up is presented. This model can be capable of considering the elastic couplings among the extensional, bending and torsional deformations, and the Poisson's effect. Lagrange's principle is employed in derivation of the equations of motion, and thus the element matrices are obtained. Comparisons of the present element's results with those in experiment, available literature and the 3D finite element analysis software (ANSYS(R)) are made to show its accuracy. Some further results are given as referencing for the future studies in vibrations of laminated composite beamst.
For the purpose of clarifying the influence of welding residual stress to the fatigue crack propagations behaviour, an analytical investigation based on finite element method is performed to examine the opening behaviour of tip-closed crack in the compressive residual stress. A finite element model comprised of contact elements for the crack plane and plane stress elements for the base material is used to evaluate crack opening stress of the crack existing in the residual stress field. Also an analytical method based on the superposition principle to estimate the length of opened part of tip closed crack and the stress distribution adjacent to the crack during uploading is applied to the finite element model. The software for the analysis is ABAQUS, which is a general purpose finite element package. The results show that stresses distributed on the crack surfaces are reduced and approached to zero as the applied stresses are increased up to crack tip opening stress and no mechanical discontinuity is found at the boundary of contact elements and plane stress elements. It is verified that the opening behavior of the fatigue crack in the residual stress can be predicted by finite element method with the proposed analytical method.
