SPR 접합법을 이용한 Al-5052 인장-전단 시험편의 피로강도 (Fatigue Strength of Al-5052 Tensile-Shear Specimens using a SPR Joining Method)

  • Self-piercing riveting(SPR) is a mechanical fastening technique which is put pressure on the rivet for joining the sheets. Unlike a spot welding, SPR joining does not make the harmful gas and $CO_2$ and needs less energy consumption. In this study, static and fatigue tests were conducted using tensile-shear specimens with Al-5052 plates for evaluation of fatigue strength of the SPR joints. During SPR joining process for the specimen, using the current sheet thickness and a rivet, the optimal applied punching force was found to be 21 kN. And, the maximum static strength of the specimen produced at the optimal punching force was 3430 N. During the fatigue tests for the specimens, interface failure mode occurred on the top substrate close to the rivet head in the most high-loading range region, but on the bottom substrate close to the rivet tail in the low -loading range region. There was a relationship between applied load amplitude $P_{amp}$ and lifetime of cycle N for the tensile-shear, $P_{amp}=3395.5{\times}N^{-0.078}$. Using the stress-strain curve of the Al-5052 from tensile test, the simulations for fatigue specimens have been carried out using the implicit finite element code ABAQUS. The relation between von-Mises equivalent stress amplitude and number of cycles was found to be ${\sigma}_{eq}=514.7{\times}N^{-0.033}$.

충격파 및 유동점성 효과를 고려한 항공기 날개-동체 형상에 대한 공탄성 응답 (Aeroelastic Response Analysis for Wing-Body Configuration Considering Shockwave and Flow Viscous Effects)

  • 본 연구에서는 충격파 및 유동박리효과를 고려하여 항공기 동체-날개 형상(DLR-F4)에 대한 천음속 공탄성 응답해석을 수행하였다. 시간 영역에서 전산유체역학, 유한요소모델 및 전산구조동역학 기법을 활용한 유체-구조 연계시스템을 적용하여 공탄성 해석을 수행 하였으며, 이를 이용하여 비행체의 설계에 정확하고 유용한 결과를 제시할 수 있다. 천음속 영역에서 항공기 동체-날개 형상에 대해 비선형 비정상 공력해석을 수행하기 위하여 6면체 구조 격자를 생성하였고, Navier-Stokes 방정식을 적용하였다. 항공기 동체-날개 형상의 정적 및 동적 공탄성 응답 특성을 파악하였고, 항공기 설계 및 시험 연구자에게 실제적이고 유용한 결과를 제시할 수 있다.

열해석을 이용한 자기부상자석의 설계 (Design of Levitation Magnet with Thermal Analysis)

  • The UTM-01 developed in 1998 was the first maglev vehicle in Korea for the urban transit maglev (UTM) system. Through the improvement of UTM-01 and development of UTM02, the commercialization of the UTM system is being prepared now. In order to prepare for the commercialization of maglev, it is necessary that an optimal design of the levitation magnet should be provided for the safe operation of the vehicle. The levitation force is formed through the function of magnetic flux density on the top of magnet poles and gap between magnet pole and guide rail. To generate a magnetic field that is high enough to levitate the vehicle, ferromagnetic materials, such as pure iron for magnet pole and SS400 for guide rail, were used. The heat generated by $I^2R$ loss of magnet conductor makes the thermal convection on the surface of magnet including coil and poles. As these two characteristics are nonlinear phenomena, this paper deals with the nonlinear analysis on the magnetic and thermal properties of the U-type levitation magnet by using 3-D finite element method (FEM). Base on the analysis results, a small scale U-type magnet was designed, manufactured, and tested and it was verified that the magnet manufactured was satisfactory to all the design specifications.

점성토의 유한요소해석에서 전단파라미터에 따른 성토 및 굴착 거동 (Embankment and Excavation Behaviour with Shear Parameters of Soft Clayey Soil in FEM)

  • 본 연구에서는 연약지반에서의 재하/제하에 대한 안정해석과 응력-변형 해석시 전단 파라미터(UU; Unconsolidated Undrained, CU; Consolidated Undrained(전응력), ${\bar{CU}}$ ; Consolidated Undrained(유효응력))에 따른 초기 지중응력, 강도, 응력-변형 특성을 평가하였다. 시공단계를 고려한 유한요소 해석시 입력하는 전단 파라미터에 따라 초기 지중응력과 이후 해석 결과가 달라질 수 있음을 확인하였다. 특히, Mohr-Coulomb 모델의 입력 파라미터인 내부마찰각(Phi)을 0으로 입력하여 초기 지중응력과 이후 응력-변형 거동을 해석할 경우 잘못된 결과를 도출 할 수 있다는 것을 확인하였다. 전응력 파라미터, CU를 초기 및 전단시 일괄 적용한 해석과 유효응력 파라미터, CU에서 전응력 파라미터, CU로 변경한 해석 결과가 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. 따라서, 연약지반에 대한 수치해석시 CU 파라미터를 적용하여도 초기 지중응력과 이후 응력-변형 거동에 큰 차이 없이 예측할 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 실무에서 적용하기 편한 방법으로 실제 흙의 거동과 동일한 강도를 갖는 Mohr-Coulomb 모델의 전단 파라미터를 산정하는 방법을 제안하였다.

A comparison of structural performance enhancement of horizontally and vertically stiffened tubular steel wind turbine towers

  • Stiffeners can be utilised to enhance the strength of thin-walled wind turbine towers in engineering practise, thus, structural performance of wind turbine towers by means of different stiffening schemes should be compared to explore the optimal structural enhancement method. In this paper two alternative stiffening methods, employing horizontal or vertical stiffeners, for steel tubular wind turbine towers have been studied. In particular, two groups of three wind turbine towers of 50m, 150m and 250m in height, stiffened by horizontal rings and vertical strips respectively, were analysed by using FEM software of ABAQUS. For each height level tower, the mass of the stiffening rings is equal to that of vertical stiffeners each other. The maximum von Mises stresses and horizontal sways of these towers with vertical stiffeners is compared with the corresponding ring-stiffened towers. A linear buckling analysis is conducted to study the buckling modes and critical buckling loads of the three height levels of tower. The buckling modes and eigenvalues of the 50m, 150m and 250m vertically stiffened towers were also compared with those of the horizontally stiffened towers. The numbers and central angles of the vertical stiffeners are considered as design variables to study the effect of vertical stiffeners on the structural performance of wind turbine towers. Following an extensive parametric study, these strengthening techniques were compared with each other and it is obtained that the use of vertical stiffeners is a more efficient approach to enhance the stability and strength of intermediate and high towers than the use of horizontal rings.

Thermal-fluid-structure coupling analysis for plate-type fuel assembly under irradiation. Part-I numerical methodology

  • The plate-type fuel assembly adopted in nuclear research reactor suffers from complicated effect induced by non-uniform irradiation, which might affect its stress conditions, mechanical behavior and thermal-hydraulic performance. A reliable numerical method is of great importance to reveal the complex evolution of mechanical deformation, flow redistribution and temperature field for the plate-type fuel assembly under non-uniform irradiation. This paper is the first part of a two-part study developing the numerical methodology for the thermal-fluid-structure coupling behaviors of plate-type fuel assembly under irradiation. In this paper, the thermal-fluid-structure coupling methodology has been developed for plate-type fuel assembly under non-uniform irradiation condition by exchanging thermal-hydraulic and mechanical deformation parameters between Finite Element Model (FEM) software and Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) software with Mesh-based parallel Code Coupling Interface (MpCCI), which has been validated with experimental results. Based on the established methodology, the effects of non-uniform irradiation and fluid were discussed, which demonstrated that the maximum mechanical deformation with irradiation was dozens of times larger than that without irradiation and the hydraulic load on fuel plates due to differential pressure played a dominant role in the mechanical deformation.

기판 소재에 따른 패널 레벨 패키지 공정 단계별 warpage 해석 (Process Induced Warpage Simulation for Panel Level Package)

  • 패널 레벨 패키지(Panel Level Package)에서 공정 단계별로 발생하는 휨(warpage)에 대해 유한요소법을 이용하여 전산모사를 진행하였다. $5{\times}5mm^2$ 크기의 실리콘 칩이 총 221개가 포함된 $122.4{\times}93.6mm^2$ 크기의 패널에 대해서 (1) EMC 몰딩, (2) detach core 부착, (3) 가열, (4) 캐리어 분리, (5) 냉각의 5 단계에 대해서 해석을 수행하였으며, 캐리어와 detach core 소재로 유리와 FR4의 조합이 휨 현상에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 캐리어 및 detach core의 소재에 따라 공정 단계별로 휨의 경향이 다르게 나타나고 있으나, 최종적으로는 유리를 캐리어로 사용하는 경우에 detach core의 소재와 관계없이 FR4 캐리어에 비해 낮은 휨 값을 나타내었으며 유리 캐리어와 유리 detach core의 조합에서 가장 낮은 휨 값이 관찰되었다.

Computer modeling of elastoplastic stress state of fibrous composites with hole

  • The paper represents computer modeling of the deformed state of physically nonlinear transversally isotropic bodies with hole. In order to describe the anisotropy of the mechanical properties of transversally-isotropic materials a structurally phenomenological model has been used. This model allows representing the initial material in the form of the coupled isotropic materials: the basic material (binder) considered from the positions of continuum mechanics and the fiber material oriented along the anisotropy direction of the original material. It is assumed that the fibers perceive only the axial tensile-compression forces and are deformed together with the base material. To solve the problems of the theory of plasticity, simplified theories of small elastoplastic deformation have been used for a transversely-isotropic body, developed by B.E. Pobedrya. A simplified theory allows applying the theory of small elastoplastic deformations to solve specific applied problems, since in this case the fibrous medium is replaced by an equivalent transversely isotropic medium with effective mechanical parameters. The essence of simplification is that with simple stretching of composite in direction of the transversal isotropy axis and in direction perpendicular to it, plastic deformations do not arise. As a result, the intensity of stresses and deformations both along the principal axis of the transversal isotropy and along the perpendicular plane of isotropy is determined separately. The representation of the fibrous composite in the form of a homogeneous anisotropic material with effective mechanical parameters allows for a sufficiently accurate calculation of stresses and strains. The calculation is carried out under different loading conditions, keeping in mind that both sizes characterizing the fibrous material fiber thickness and the gap between the fibers-are several orders smaller than the radius of the hole. Based on the simplified theory and the finite element method, a computer model of nonlinear deformation of fibrous composites is constructed. For carrying out computational experiments, a specialized software package was developed. The effect of hole configuration on the distribution of deformation and stress fields in the vicinity of concentrators was investigated.

지하댐 설치 시 섬진강 하류 염수침입 방지 효과의 모델기반 분석 (Effect of Underground Dam for the Prevention of Seawater Intrusion at the Seom-jin River)

  • 섬진강 하류지역은 1978년 이후 지속적인 하상 세굴로 인하여 염수 침입이 확대된 지역으로서, 본 연구에서는 지하댐 설치 시의 염수침입 차단 효과를 수치모델로서 평가하였다. 현재 섬진강 하류 지표수의 염소이온농도는 상류로 가면서 지수함수적으로 감소하며, 지하수내 농도는 지표수의 1/10 이내로 나타난다. 하구로부터 4.6km 지점에 암반 상부로부터 25m 높이의 지하댐을 설치하는 조건으로 FEM 모델인 FEFLOW를 수행한 결과, 지하댐 상류의 퇴적 작용으로 현재보다 충적층의 두께가 5m 정도 두꺼워진다면 하구로부터 25km 지점에서의 염소이온농도(0.25psu)가 하류로 약 3km 정도 이동하는 것으로 나타났다. 반면에, 지하댐 상류에 퇴적물이 쌓이지 않을 경우에는 지하댐 설치 효과가 미미한 것으로 해석되었다.

지반의 팽창성을 고려한 터널의 테르자기 토압공식 수정 (Modification of Terzaghi's Earth Pressure Formula on Tunnel Considering Dilatancy of Soil)

  • 본 연구에서는 터널의 상부에 작용하는 토압을 평가하는데 있어서 기존의 Terzaghi 공식이 가지는 문제점을 해결하기 위해 흙의 팽창성(Dilatancy)을 고려하여 Terzaghi 공식을 수정하였다. Terzaghi 공식과 수정식에 대한 수학적 해석결과, 터널의 토압은 수정식이 Terzaghi 공식에 비해 작게 나타났으며 토피고가 커질수록 그 차이는 증가하였다. 터널모형실험 결과와 비교해 본 결과, Terzaghi 공식에 의해 계산된 상부토압은 굴착 전 토압의 약 70%이며, 수정식에 의하면 약 60% 정도로 나타났고, 터널모형실험에 의해 측정된 토압은 약 40% 정도 임을 볼 수 있었다. 또한 유한요소해석을 이용하여 Terzaghi 공식과 수정식에 의해 산정된 터널 상부토압과 전단변형률을 비교해본 결과 수학적 해석결과와 동일하게 수정식이 Terzaghi 공식보다 작게 나타났다.
