This paper presents an improved computational framework for the direct-solution-based finite element tearing and interconnecting (FETI) algorithm. The FETI-local algorithm is further improved herein, and localized Lagrange multipliers are used to define the interface among its subdomains. Selective inverse entry computation, using a property of the Boolean matrix, is employed for the computation of the subdomain interface stiffness and load, in which the original FETI-local algorithm requires a full matrix inverse computation of a high computational cost. In the global interface computation step, the original serial computation is replaced by a parallel multi-frontal method. The performance of the improved FETI-local algorithm was evaluated using a numerical example with 64 million degrees of freedom (DOFs). The computational time was reduced by up to 97.8% compared to that of the original algorithm. In addition, further stable and improved scalability was obtained in terms of a speed-up indicator. Furthermore, a performance comparison was conducted to evaluate the differences between the proposed algorithm and commercial software ANSYS using a large-scale computation with 432 million DOFs. Although ANSYS is superior in terms of computational time, the proposed algorithm has an advantage in terms of the speed-up increase per processor increase.

In order to estimate behavior of soil mass which is located straight up of reinforced concrete culvert, Ritz method and FEM were applied and arching effects between the soil mass and adjacent soil were considered for the analyses. Analysis results obtained from the Ritz method and finite element method were compared with analytical solution. In the case of estimating nodal forces considered in FEM, caution is needed that shear stress depending on depth from ground surface should be reflected regardless of local coordinate system. Comparing the displacements computed from Ritz method with those of the analytic solution, it is seen that as the power of assumed displacement function increases, differences between the computed displacements and those of analytic solution decreases. It seems that displacements of FEM becomes closer to those of analytical solution as the number of elements are increased. It is seen that stresses computed from the Ritz method don't get closer to those of the analytic solution as the power of assumed displacement function. Stresses from FEM become closer to those of analytic solution as the number of elements are increased. Comparing the analysis results from the Ritz method and FEM with those of analytic solution, it can be seen that FEM is more reliable than Ritz method.

Retaining walls are widely used in the construction of underground structures. This study reviews the stability of the high-strength joint buried pile method at a site in Korea. [Consider giving details of the location.] The method is assessed by considering the amount of ground settlement, as calculated by finite element analysis and measured at the site. Comparison of the measured and numerical results confirmed the method's stability and field applicability. Settlement of 13.42~13.65 mm was calculated for seven cross-sections [The Abstract should be comprehensible without reference to the main text. The labels A-A' to G-G' should not be introduced here without explanation.] using numerical analysis, and the measured settlement reached a maximum of 2.00 mm. The observed differences and variations [Please state what differed/varied.] did not exceed the design expectations in any section. Instruments installed at the back of the excavation area were used to assess the conditions. An underground gradient meter recorded a cumulative horizontal displacement of between -0.40 and 0.60 mm, and an underground water meter recorded slight displacements of between -0.21 and 0.28 m compared with the initial measurements. A surface settlement meter observed very little movement, with a maximum of -2.00 mm compared with the initial measurement, thereby confirming the establishment of a stable state within the management criteria.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to compare the fracture resistance of the IPS Empress ceramic crown with 1.0mm width rounded shoulder, which is usually recommended in all ceramic crown. and 0.5mm width chamfer finish lines on the maxillary central incisor. Material and method : After 15 metal dies were made for each group, the IPS Empress all ceramic crowns were fabricated and cemented with resin cement(Bistite resin cement, Tokuyama Soda Co. LTD., Japan) on the metal die. The cemented crowns were mounted on the positioning jig and the universal testing machine(Zwick Z020, Zwick Co. Germany)was used to measure the fracture strength with loading on the incisal edge. And also, three-dimensional finite element stress analysis was used to measure the stress distribution with the various types of the finish lines(1.0mm width rounded shoulder, 0.5mm width chamfer), the loading site(incisal edge, incisal $\frac{1}{3}$) and the type of loading(concentration loading, distribution loading). Results and conclusion : 1. In the fracture resistance experiment according to the finish line, the mean fracture strength of rounded shoulder(876N) and the mean fracture strength of chamfer(882N) did not skew any significant difference between each other(p>0.05). 2. The stress distribution of all ceramic crown in three dimensional finite element analysis showed concentration aspect at loading point and cervical area or labial surface. 3. In metal die, there were no differences in stress distribution between finish lines, but in natural teeth model, chamfer finish line showed higher stress than rounded shoulder finish line. 4. When force was loaded on the incisal edge the stress was concentrated on the incisal edge and the cervical area of labial surface. When force was loaded on the incisal $\frac{1}{3}$, the stress concentrated on the cervical area of labial surface and the cingulum area. 5. Generally, natural teeth model showed higher and various stress than the metal die.

Stress concentration is one of the causes of the damage due to the large stress than the mean stress acting on the bar. This paper presents the results for stress of a stepped bar with a hole under torsional loading. The analysis for stress concentration and shearing stress was done by ANSYS Workbench which is a commercial finite element analysis software. The analysis results on fillet and hole are increased as the distance between them are become close. In addition, the distribution of the maximum equivalent stress developed in the fillet and hole in the outside range of the specific distance L (-100 mm ~ 300 mm) was almost constant in the models used in the analysis. On the other hand, the distribution of the maximum equivalent stress developed in the fillet and hole in the inside range of the specific distance L (-100 mm ~ 300 mm) was rapidly increasing and decreasing the change in the models used in the analysis. In addition, it was also possible to identify the location where the differences between equivalent stresses of hole and fillet occurred within a specific distance L (-100 mm ~ 300 mm). The analysis results of paper can used when selecting a hole location in a stepped bar under torsional loading.
When analyzing repeated binary data, the generalized estimating equations(GEE) approach produces consistent estimates for regression parameters even if an incorrect working correlation matrix is used. However, time-varying covariates experience larger changes in coefficients than time-invariant covariates across various working correlation structures for finite samples. In addition, the GEE approach may give biased estimates under missing at random(MAR). Weighted estimating equations and multiple imputation methods have been proposed to reduce biases in parameter estimates under MAR. This article studies if the two methods produce robust estimates across various working correlation structures for longitudinal binary data with time-varying covariates under different missing mechanisms. Through simulation, we observe that time-varying covariates have greater differences in parameter estimates across different working correlation structures than time-invariant covariates. The multiple imputation method produces more robust estimates under any working correlation structure and smaller biases compared to the other two methods.

In this paper, the total procedure for composite laminate mechanical joint (ASTM D5961 Proc. A, B) from fixture design to test analysis was showed. Composite laminate mechanical joints were analyzed using the FEM(Finite Element Method) and compared to test results. A progressive failure analysis was applied to FEM to analyze the failure behavior of test specimens. Three failure theories - maximum stress, maximum strain, and Tsai-Wu were applied to FEM to predict test failure load. General parameters for composite laminate joints were reviewed and the differences of bearing strength were compared with major parameters.
This is a leading study to replace the structural analysis methodology on the specific traditional joint by a numerical analysis. Tests were carried out to test the compressive methodologies with the numerical results. The Japanese larch was used as a sample. The Orthotropic property of wood was specifically considered for the finite element numerical analysis. Linear numerical analysis and non-linear numerical analysis for the BEAM element and the two SOLID elements of ANSYS were used to analyze the compressive performance. In addition, more finely divided elements were used to raise the accuracy of the numerical result. Finally, the statistically significant differences were tested between that of the analytical and numerical results. It could be concluded that the SOLID 64 element shows the most optimum result when the non-linear analysis with the more finely divided element was used. However, finely dividing of the element is a considerable time consuming process, and it is quite difficult to raise the accuracy of the non-linear numerical analysis. Therefore, if considering the vertical displacement to be of the only interest, the BEAM element is more efficient than the SOLID element because the BEAM element is reflected as a simple line, which is less time consuming and difficult in dividing the elements. But, the BEAM element cannot accurately model the knot as a strength defect factor which is an important property in the orthotropic property of wood. Therefore, the SOLID element should be used to model the strength defect factor, knot, as it can be efficiently applied on the structural size flexure member which could be more strongly effected by the knot. In addition, it is useful at times when the failure types of members are to be more closely investigated, as the SOLID element is able to examine the local stress distribution of the member. The conclusion drawn by this study is of the good concordance between analytical results and numerical results of compressive wood members, but how orthotropic properties should only be considered. The numerical analysis on the specific Korean traditional joints will be based on the current study results.
The aerodynamic characteristics of vehicles are critical to assess vehicle safety and passenger comfort for vehicles running on long span bridges in a windy environment. However, in previous wind-vehicle-bridge (WVB) system analysis, the aerodynamic interference between the vehicle and the bridge was seldom considered, which will result in changing aerodynamic coefficients. In this study, the aerodynamic coefficients of a high-sided truck on the ground (ground case) and a typical bridge deck (bridge deck case) are determined in a wind tunnel. The effects of existent structures including the bridge deck and bridge accessories on the high-sided vehicle's aerodynamic characteristics are investigated. A three-dimensional analytical framework of a fully coupled WVB system is then established based on the finite element method. By inputting the aerodynamic coefficients of both cases into the WVB system separately, the vehicle safety and passenger comfort are assessed, and the critical accidental wind speed for the truck on the bridge in a windy environment is derived. The differences in the bridge response between the windward case and the leeward case are also compared. The results show that the bridge deck and the accessories play a positive role in ensuring vehicle safety and improving passenger comfort, and the influence of aerodynamic interference on the response of the bridge is weak.

In this paper, warpage magnitude and shape of printed-circuit board in case that properties of core and thickness of solder resist are varied are investigated. The cause of warpage is coefficient of thermal expansion differences of stacked materials. Therefore, we need small difference of coefficient of thermal expansion that laminated material, and need to decrease asymmetric of top side and bottom side in structure shape. Also, we can control occurrence of warpage heightening hardness of core in laminated material. Composite material that make core are exploited in connection with the structural bending twisting coupling resulting from directional properties of fiber reinforced composite materials and from ply stacking sequence. If we use such characteristic, we can control warpage with change of material properties. In this paper, warpage of two layer stacked chip scale package is investigated, and evaluate improvement result using an experiment and finite element method tool.
