  • A new alloy definition will be presented concerning increasing demands for the board level reliability of miniaturized interconnections. The damage mechanism for LFBGA components on different board finishes is not quite understood. Further demands from mobile phones are the drop test, characterizing interface performance of different package constructions in relation to decreased pad constructions and therefore interfaces. The paper discusses the characterization of interfaces based on SnPb, SnPbXYZ, SnAgCu and SnAgCuInNd ball materials and SnAgCuInNd as solder paste, the stability after accelerated tests and the description of modified interfaces strictly related to the assembly conditions, dissolution behavior of finishes on board side and the influence of intermetallic formation. The type of intermetallic as well as the quantity of intermetallics are observed, primaliry the hardness, E modules describing the ability of strain/stress compensation. First results of board level reliability are presented after TCT-40/+150. Improvement steps from the ball formulation will be discussed in conjunction to the implementation of lead free materials In order to optimize ball materials for area array devices accelareted aging conditions like TCTs were used to analyze the board level reliability of different ball materials for BGA, LFBGA, CSP, Flip Chip. The paper outlines lead-free ball analysis in comparison to conventional solder balls for BGA and chip size packages. The important points of interest are the description of processability related to existing ball attach procedures, requirements of interconnection properties and the knowledge gained the board level reliability. Both are the primary acceptance criteria for implementation. Knowledge about melting characteristic, surface tension depend on temperature and organic vehicles, wetting behavior, electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, specific heat, mechanical strength, creep and relaxation properties, interactions to preferred finishes (minor impurities), intermetallic growth, content of IMC, brittleness depend on solved elements/IMC, fatigue resistance, damage mechanism, affinity against oxygen, reduction potential, decontamination efforts, endo-/exothermic reactions, diffusion properties related to finishes or bare materials, isothermal fatigue, thermo-cyclic fatigue, corrosion properties, lifetime prediction based on board level results, compatibility with rework/repair solders, rework temperatures of modified solders (Impurities, change in the melting point or range), compatibility to components and laminates.

  • In recent years, the architectural interest in the apartment design has been getting focused on qualitative improvement and design differentiation. Especially the facade design differentiation is one of the most important elements in this matter. The purpose of this study is to provide the basic informations that can be referenced when architects are dealing with exterior design by analyzed design types and characteristics of apartment entrances. Target apartment of this study was whasung dongtan the 2nd phase new city districts which was planned to solve a housing shortage in the capital region. Having examined eleven pilot districts, four 1st construction areas, and eight 2nd construction areas, - total 23 complexes - 282 apartment entrances in 212 apartment buildings were carefully researched. Apartment entrance design can be divided into 15 different design elements: design types and combination types, direction, shape, height, approach types, exterior wall finishes of entrance, exterior wall finishes of lower parts of apartment, handrail types of slope, floor finishes of slope, distribution ratio of piloti, ceiling height of piloti, floor finishes of piloti, space use of piloti, window establishment between piloti and elevator hall, landscape elements of piloti. Design characteristics of building entrances were also analyzed in 4 groups (I, II, III, IV) divided by construction contractors ranking. In conclusion, first, design types and combination types can be classified into 15 different kinds, and the group I and II tend to show wider variety of entrance combinations. Secondly, the height and volume of extrude entrance type tend to increase in the group I and II. Third, the spatial configuration of pilotis appears to show more of 'pass + store + break' rather than 'access', as we get closer to the group I.

  • BIM facilitates data transparency and consistency through three-dimensional parametric modeling and promotes the accurate managing and sharing of project information. In Korea, however, BIM-based detailed design of architectural interior finishes required during the Construction Documents phase increases the burden on architectural firms due to frequent design changes and manual workload. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to establish rule-based modules using parametric modeling that automates repetitive tasks that occur during the detailed design of interior finishing. Interviews with practitioners were conducted to analyze the major finishing elements. Of these floors, walls, and ceilings, which were the most rudimentary and common items, were selected as the subjects of the study. The modules developed in this study have two functions. One is to create new finish types, and the other is the automatic modeling of new types into rooms. For these functions, parameters that belonged to each finish and room element in a BIM model were analyzed and valid parameters directly used for parametric modeling were derived. Then, based on these parameters, rule-based modules for three elements, I.e., floors, walls, and ceilings were constructed with Revit Dynamo, and the effectiveness of the modules was verified with a pilot test. In conclusion, this study suggested a series of processes for automatic finishing to improve the efficiency of BIM-based architectural detailed design of finishes and to contribute in solving the chronic problems occuring during current design processes.

  • This paper provides a social knowledge for pragmatic application guidelines of the interior finish materials within apartment houses, based on both the awareness of practitioners and as it applies to the realities. For this purpose, a series of the questionnaires survey on the awareness of interior finish materials in recently-constructed and remodeled apartment houses was performed, which has extended its probe into the awareness of architectural practitioners. The questionnaires asked practitioners how much they desire sustainable finish materials and the difference in various parties were analyzed and compared, formulating the pragmatic solution in the determination of interior finishes. Comparative analysis of the awareness of construction specialists, interior designer, architectural environmental researchers on environment-friendly finish materials showed that all parties were right to recognize the significance of sustainability in interior finishes. Practitioners believed that occupants must bear the additional expense for the environment-friendly finish products. Also, the results tell that the amount used of environment-friendly products increases as expertise on sustainability in interior finishes rises.

  • As the needs of housing for the elderly has increased, many researches have been carried out and some housing projects for the elderly including nursing home began to be provided. Most researches have focused on the development of housing type or space layout and only several ones on interior design. The interior design in house influences physically or psychologically on the elderly who lives in. Also, the subject of them which examined the needs or preference for housing for the elderly were the middle-aged, not the aged. The purpose of the study was to examine the preferred characteristics of interior design in residential space by the elderly. The structured interview with 120 old persons who lived in Busan was carried out using by a questionnaire and 3D images. The elderly answered about the preferred interior style, color, lighting and interior finishes of each room in house, such as living room, master bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom. On the basis of the findings, the characteristics of interior design of each room in house which the elderly preferred were presented. In general, they preferred the mixed interior style with tradition and modem. Also, the reddish and purple interior color, flower or plant patterned wall finishes, and wood floor were preferred in living room and master bedroom by the elderly. The white interior color and one colored wall finishes without any pattern were preferred in kitchen and bathroom.

  • This study was to investigate the application of foam finishing technology (FFT) for the silicone finishing of cotton fabrics and the tluorochemical finishing of polyester fabrics. The repellency properties, soil resistance properties and selected physical properties were demonstrated and compared the foam finishing with the conventional padding application. Amino-funetional silicone prorided better durability than epoxy-functional silicone and conventional reactive silicone after three launderings. Foam finishing fabrics improved stiffness but showed lower or equivalent water and oil repellency properties, soil resistance properties, tearing strength and abrasion resistance than those of the fabrics treated by conventional padding process. But, it was evident that the foam application of silicone and fluorochemical finishes to the fabrics were feasible.

  • The major classes of antimicrobial agents for textiles include organo-metallics, phenols, quaternary ammonium salts, and organo-silicones. These finishes should be durable, have selective activity towards undesirable organisms, be compatible with other finishes and dyes, and be nontoxic to man [1]. Chitosan, as a deacetylated derivative of chitin, is a natural, non-toxic and biodegradable polymer. Chitosan is also known as an antimicrobial polysaccharide due to antimicrobial action of the amino group at the C-2 position of the glucosamine residue.(omitted)
