FVC2002(The Second Fingerprint Verification Competition) DB3 SetA 지문필터링을 영상을 대상으로 한 실험에서 부영역의 화질을 고려한 경우 EER(Equal Error Rate)이 14.31%의 처리속도 향상을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • Classification of fingerprints is one of the major subjects on which many researchers have been studying for efficient identification. But fingerprints should be preprocessed in various ways prior to being classified. Factors such as the accuracy and the processing time should be considered in classification of fingerprints. In this paper, we propose a method for classifying fingerprints into several frequent patterns. This method consists of two stages. A fingerprint image is first converted to a skeleton form to find out the center. Then it is identified as a member of one of preclassified pattern by the frequency domain feature. Experiments show that the proposed method is quite useful in classifying fingerprints into typical patterns.

  • This paper proposes two new methods to detect the fingerprints of different persons based on one-dimensional and two-dimensional discrete wavelet transformations (DWTs). Recent literature shows that fingerprint detection based on DWT requires less memory space compared to pattern recognition and moment-based image recognition techniques. In this study four statistical parameters - cross correlation co-efficient, skewness, kurtosis and convolution of the approximate coefficient of one-dimensional DWTs are used to evaluate the two methods involving fingerprints of the same person and those of different persons. Within the contexts of all statistical parameters in detection of fingerprints, our second method shows better results than that of the first method.

  • This paper proposes a fusion algorithm which merges multiple vein pattern images into a single image, larger than those images. As a preprocessing step of template matching, during the verification of biometric data such as fingerprint image, vein pattern image of hand, etc., the fusion technique is used to make reference image larger than the candidate images in order to enhance the matching performance. In this paper, a new algorithm, called BSA (Boundary Stitching Algorithm) is proposed, in which the boundary rectilinear parts extracted from the candidate images are stitched to the reference image in order to enlarge its matching space. By applying BSA to practical vein pattern verification system, its verification rate was increased by about 10%.

  • In this paper, we propose a secure solution for user authentication by using fingerprint verification on the sensor-client-server model, even with the client that is not necessarily trusted by the sensor holder or the server. To protect possible attacks launched at the untrusted client, our solution makes the fingerprint sensor validate the result computed by the client for the feature extraction. However, the validation should be simple so that the resource-constrained fingerprint sensor can validate it in real-time. To solve this problem, we separate the feature extraction into binarization and minutiae extraction, and assign the time-consuming binarization to the client. After receiving the result of binarization from the client, the sensor conducts a simple validation to check the result, performs the minutiae extraction with the received binary image from the client, and then sends the extracted minutiae to the server. Based on the experimental results, the proposed solution for fingerprint verification can be performed on the sensor-client-server model securely and in real-time with the aid of an untrusted client.

  • This paper proposes a novel scheme of a gray scale fingerprint image for a high-accuracy capacitive sensor chip. The conventional grayscale image scheme uses a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) of a large-scale layout or charge-pump circuit with high power consumption and complexity by a global clock signal. A modified capacitive detection circuit for the charge sharing scheme is proposed, which uses a down literal circuit (DLC) with a floating-gate metal-oxide semiconductor transistor (FGMOS) based on a neuron model. The detection circuit is designed and simulated in a 3.3 V, 0.35 ${\mu}m$ standard CMOS process. Because the proposed circuit does not need a comparator and peripheral circuits, the pixel layout size can be reduced and the image resolution can be improved.

  • In this paper, we proposed color image watermarking using human visual system. A watermark is embedded by transforming a color image of RGB coordinate into a color image of HSI coordinate with considering that chromatic components are less sensitive than achromatic components. Watermark is embedded in the frequency domain of the chromatic channels by using discrete cosine transform. Watermark is extracted from watermarked image by using inverse discrete cosine transform. To verify the proposed method, a standard image and a fingerprint image are used for the original image and the watermark image, respectively. Simulation results are satisfied with invisibility and robustness from attacks as image compression.

  • The current comparison methods with scoring systems that are used to compare visualized latent fingerprints (LF) have disadvantages. Evaluators using these methods are prone to make errors and fail to discriminate LFs correctly to notice the differences among those LFs. Therefore, a comparative and quantitative evaluation method that is capable of obtaining more objective and quantitative results is needed. Densitometric image analysis (DIA) is used in other fields as a reliable semi-quantitative comparison method. To apply DIA to LFs, the potential variables that can occur during the DIA process were tested. The visualized ridges of LFs can be compared using the concentration of dots against the background to make it possible to analyze the ridges with DIA. The variables that can be present during the DIA process include the thickness of the analysis line, the number of ridges to be taken, the number of divided zones within each of the fingerprints, and the angles of the analysis line against the ridge lines that were selected. From the analysis of the inked fingerprints and circular lines that are similar to fingerprints, the angle of the analysis lines with the ridge line was the most significant variable. The preliminary test result was applied to the comparison of LFs that were developed with the powder method and then compared with the AFIS analysis. A similar trend was found, and a more detailed and semi-quantitative comparison of the visualized LFs was possible. In the future, it is necessary to check the evaluative ability of the DIA method by analyzing the visualized LFs with other various development methods. However, DIA is currently an option that can be used as an objective comparative evaluation method during fingerprint studies with supplementary role.
