  • 대기오염물질의 효율적 제어와 관리방안을 마련하기 위해서는 오염원에 대한 정성ㆍ정량분석이 선행되어야 하는데, 이는 오염인의 정성ㆍ정량분석이 일괄적인 오염원 규제가 아닌 개별 오염원 중심의 규제를 가능하게 하고 효율적이고 합리적인 환경정책 수립에 도움을 주기 때문이다. 대기는 자연적 오염원뿐만 아니라 인위적 오염원 등에서 배출된 가스상, 입자상 오염물질이 매우 복잡하게 혼합되어 있어 정확한 오염원의 추정이 어려운 실정이다. (중략)

Unconfined compressive strength of PET waste-mixed residual soils

  • Plastic wastes, particularly polyethylene terephthalate (PET) generated from used bottled water constitute a worldwide environmental issue. Reusing the PET waste for geotechnical applications not only reduces environmental burdens of handling the waste, but also improves inherent engineering properties of soil. This paper investigated factors affecting shear strength improvement of PET-mixed residual soil. Four variables were considered: (i) plastic content; (ii) plastic slenderness ratio; (iii) plastic size; and (iv) soil particle size. A series of unconfined compression tests were performed to determine the optimum configurations for promoting the shear strength improvement. The results showed that the optimum slenderness ratio and PET content for shear strength improvement were 1:3 and 1.5%, respectively. Large PET pieces (i.e., $1.0cm^2$) were favorable for fine-grained residual soil, while small PET pieces (i.e., $0.5cm^2$) were favorable for coarse-grained residual soil. Higher shear strength improvement was obtained for PET-mixed coarse-grained residual soil (148%) than fine-grained residual soils (117%). The orientation of plastic pieces in soil and frictional resistance developed between soil particles and PET surface are two important factors affecting the shear strength performance of PET-mixed soil.

The Importance of Dry Deposition : Dry Deposition Fluxes of Heavy Metals In Seoul, Korea During Yellow-Sand Events

  • Mass and elemental dry deposition fluxes and ambient particle size distributions were measured using dry deposition plates and a cascade impactor, from March to November 1998 in Seoul, Korea. During the spring sampling period several yellow sand events characterized by long range transport from China and Mongolia impacted the area. During these events the mass fluxes were statistically the same as during springtime non-yellow-sand events. However, most elemental fluxes were higher. In general, the flux ratios of both crustal (Al, Ca, Mn) and anthropogenic elements (Ni, Pb) to total mass measured during the daytime yellow-sand events were substantially higher than those measured in spring daytime during non-yellow-sand time periods. During all seasons the average measured daytime fluxes were about two times higher than at nighttime. The flux of primarily anthropogenic metals (Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn) and Mn was on average one to two orders of magnitude lower than the flux of the crustal metals Al and Ca. As is typically found two modes, fine (0.1∼l.0 $\mu\textrm{m}$) and coarse (1.0∼10.0 $\mu\textrm{m}$) were present in the measured size distributions (<10 $\mu\textrm{m}$). The particles in the coarse mode constitute a major portion of the measured mass size distribution during the yellow-sand events possibly due to the long-range transport of those particles from China.

대입열 EH36-TM강의 Tandem EGW 용접부 미세조직 및 기계적 성질 (Mechanical Properties and Microstructures of High Heat Input Welded Tandem EGW Joint in EH36-TM Steel)

  • In the coarse grained HAZ of conventional TiN steel, most TiN particles are dissolved and austenite grain growth easily occurrs during high heat input welding. To avoid this difficulty, thermal stability of TiN particles is improved by increasing nitrogen content in EH36-TM steel. Increased thermal stability of TiN particle is helpful for preventing austenite grain growth by the pinning effect. In this study, the mechanical properties and microstructures of high heat input welded Tandem EGW joint in EH36-TM steel with high nitrogen content were investigated. The austenite grain size in simulated HAZ of the steel at $1400^{\circ}C$ was much smaller than that of conventional TiN steel. Even for high heat input welding, the microstructure of coarse grained HAZ consisted of fine ferrite and pearlite and the mechanical properties of the joint were sufficient to meet all the requirements specified in classification rule.

Composition and Size Variation of Airborne Fungal Spores in the Asian Dust Events (2000 ~ 2001)

  • PM (Particulate Matter) samples contained fungal spores were collected in the ambient air of Seosan, west Korea, in springtime of 2000 and 2001. PM concentrations were $199.8\mu{g}\;m^{-3}$ in the 1st Asian Dust Storm period (March, 23 ~ 24) and $249.4\mu{g}\;m^{-3}$ in the 2nd period (April, 7~9), 2000. Compared with the concentrations in 2000, relatively low PM concentration ($157.3\mu{g}\;m^{-3}$ ) was measured in the Asian Dust Storm period (April, 24 ~ 20) of 2001. Although there were somewhat differences for the total PM concentrations among the three periods, majorities of the PM were composed of coarse particles sized about 5 ~ 6 $\mu{m}$ over the periods of the two years. Diverse molds grown from fungal aerosols were observed in the PM samples and identified at the genus level. All the genera, Fusarium, Aspergillus, Penicillium, Basipetospora, Epicoccum and Monotospora are hyphomycetes in the division Fungi imperfecti (Deuteromycota). Especially, morphologically more diversified mycelia of hyphomycetes were grown on the fine PM sample (1.1 ~ 2.1 $\mu{m}$) than coarse PM samples in the periods of 2000. Furthermore, some molds were grown on even the background PM sample less than 0.43 $\mu{m}$ in the period of 2001. It was thought that some kinds of ultra fine sized fungal spores were transported by the Asian Dust Storm and suspended in the ambient air of study area during the events.

토양세척에 의한 비소 및 중금속 오염토양의 복원 (Remediation of Soils Contaminated with Arsenic and heavy Metals by Soil Washing)

  • 음이온 비소와 양이온 아연 및 니켈로 오염된 토양을 산세척으로 복원하기 위해서 토양세척 파일럿 장비를 이용해서 토양의 물성과 산세척 특성 및 미세토양과 용존 오염물의 발생 특성을 고찰하였다. 비소와 아연 및 니켈의 pH $2{\sim}3$에서 산세척시 황산과 인산은 공존 경쟁 음이온의 존재로 비소의 제거 효율을 높였고, 염산은 비소, 니켈, 아연을 동시에 효율적으로 제거하였다. 세척조에서 화학적 용출은 임계체류시간 이상에서 세척 효율이 일정해졌고, 산에 의한 용출 가능한 존재형태는 교환성 및 산화물 결합과 유기성 결합형태, 그리고 부분적으로 잔류형태였다. 오염 토양의 입도에 따른 과립의 토양입자의 토양세척 효율은 높지만, 미세입자($<74{\mu}m$)는 오염물질의 농집 현상이 일어나서 제거효율이 감소했다. 또한, $<149{\mu}m$ 이하의 미세토양을 물리적 입도 분리시 전체 세척효율이 향상되었다. 따라서, 미세토양의 양이 최소가 되고 화학적 용출이 최대가 되는 세척 효율 교차지점에서 화학적 용출과 미세토양의 분리가 토양세척의 증가된 효율을 보여 주었다.

제주도 고산에서의 에어로솔 입경분포별 조성: 1998년 4월 측정 연구 (Aerosol Size Distribution and Composition at Kosan, Cheju Island : Measurements in April 1998)

  • Aerosol mass size distributions were measured at Kosan, Cheju Island in April 1998 and their compositions were analyzed. Microorifice Uniform Deposit Impactor(MOUDI) was used to collect aerosols. Sulfate and ammonium ions were predominatly present at fine mode of the aerosols while nitrate, chloride, and metal ions were mostly at coarse mode. Based on the size distribution of nitrate, it is suggested that most nitrate were from gas to particle conversion on coarse particles. Non-sea salt(nss) fraction of sulfate accounted for more than 90% of total sulfate mass concentration. In general, ion concentrations in this study are lower than those measured at the same site from the previous studies. Ion balance and chloride ion levels indicates that there had been anthropogenic chloride emission sources near to the site during the measurements.

화학기상응축 반응기 내부의 유동해석을 통한 $TiO_2$ 나노분말의 형성과정에 관한 연구 (A Study on Formation Process of $TiO_2$ Nanopowder by Numerical Analysis in Chemical Vapor Condensation Reactor)

  • Using the residence time calculated by computer simulation for temperature and gas velocity distribution in CVC reactor, the kinetics on the formation of $TiO_2$ nano powder was analyzed for coagulation process, After abrupt increase of particle size at initial growth stage (< 0.2 $\mus$ ), the particle grew in proportion of cubic root to time. The numerically calculated particle sizes well agreed with the experimental results. However, the coarse rutile $TiO_2$ powders having the particle size of over 40 nm were formed on the surface of quratz rod in the reactor. it is thought that the fine anatase particles condensed on quratz rod were sintered in a heated CVC reactor to grow and transform to coarse rutile phase, and the critical size for phase transformation anstase-to-rutile was around 25 nm tn this study.

중성자 방사화분석법과 Gent SFU 샘플러를 이용한 도시의 농촌지역의 대기분지($PM_{10}$)관측 연구 (Study on Airborne Particulate Matter ($PM_{10}$) Monitoring in Urban and Rural Area by Using Gent SFU Sampler and Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis)

  • The aim of this research is to collect and characterize fine particles (FPM:$\leq$2.5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) and coarse particles (CPM: 2.5~10${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) using a low volume air sampler provided by the IAEA, at urban (Taejon) and rural area(Wonju) for a period of about two years(April 1996 to May 1998) and to promote a use of nuclear analytical techniques for air pollution studies. For the collection of airborne particulate matter (PM(sub)10), the Gent stacked filter unit sampler and polycarbonate membrane filters were employed. The concentration of trace elements in collected APM samples were determined byu instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis. For validation of the analytical data, internal quality control were implemented by using both the comparison of the analytical results of standard reference materials(NIST SRM 1648) and interlaboratory comparison for proficiency test (NAT-3). The standard uncertainty was less than 15% and Z-score of two samples were within $\pm$1. The monitoring of (PM(sub)10) mass concentration and elemental concentrations were carried out weekly. The average mass concentration of (PM(sub)10) in urban and rural areas were 59.2$\pm$36.5$\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥ and 41.4$\pm$23.7$\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥, respectively. To investigate the emission source, the enrichment factors were calculated for the fine and coarse particle fractions at two sites, respectively and these values were classified for anthropogenic and soil origin elements.

2탑 유동층 시스템에서 선택적 고체순환을 위한 고체분리기 개발 (Development of Solid Separator for Selective Solid Circulation in Two-interconnected Fluidized Beds System)

  • 선택적 고체순환이 가능한 2탑 유동층 공정 개발을 위한 기초연구로 금속 망이 장착된 입자크기분리 시스템에 의해 입자크기 차이를 이용하여 고운입자와 굵은입자를 분리할 수 있는 고체분리기를 개발하였으며 고체분리속도에 미치는 유속, 고체분리기의 설치높이 및 분리면적의 영향을 측정 및 고찰하였다. 고체분리기에 의한 고체분리속도는 기체유속, 고체분리기의 설치높이, 분리면적이 증가함에 따라 증가하였다. 기체유속 및 고체분리기 설치높이 증가에 따른 고체분리속도의 변화경향은 기포크기의 변화경향과 유사하였다. 본 연구에서 개발한 고체분리기를 이용하여 굵은입자($212{\sim}300{\mu}m$)와 고운입자($63{\sim}106{\mu}m$)의 분리가 가능하였으며 고체분리속도는 4.4~127 g/min의 범위를 나타내었다. 개발된 고체분리기를 회수증진 수성가스변환 공정에 적용하여 선택적 고체순환이 가능한 2탑 유동층 공정구성을 제안하였다.
