  • The use of recycled aggregate, even for low-performance concrete, has been very limited because recycled aggregate, which contains a large amount of old mortar, is very low in quality. To produce a high-quality recycled aggregate, removing the paste that adheres to the recycled aggregate is very important. We have conducted research on a complex abrasion method, which removes the component of cement paste from recycled fine aggregate by using both a low-speed wet abrasion crusher as a mechanical process and neutralization as chemical processes, and well as research on the optimal manufacturing condition of recycled fine aggregates. Subsequently, we evaluated the quality of recycled fine aggregate manufactured using these methods, and tested the specimen made by this aggregate. As a result, it was found that recycled fine aggregates produced by considering the aforementioned optimal abrasion condition with the use of sulfuric acid as reactant showed excellent quality, recording a dry density of 2.4 and an absorption ratio of 2.94. Furthermore, it was discovered that gypsum, which is a reaction product occurring in the process, did not significantly affect the quality of aggregates. Furthermore, the test of mortar using this aggregate, when gypsum was included as a reaction product, showed no obvious retarding effect. However, the test sample containing gypsum recorded a long-term strength of 25.7MPa, whereas the test sample that did not contain gypsum posted a long-term strength of 29.4MPa. Thus, it is thought to be necessary to conduct additional research into the soundness and durability because it showed a clear reduction of strength.

  • In this research, the possibility of wasted refractory aggregate pulverized from refractory block as an expansive admixture and additional alkaline stimulant for class two and three blast furnace slag cements (BSC) was assessed with its high content of free CaO or free MgO. As the replacement ratios of wasted refractory powder and blast furnace slag were increased, flow and air content were decreased, while unit volume weight was increased under same conditions. Compressive strength of mortar was increased with increased replacement ratio of wasted refractory powder, especially, in the case of class three BSC, the highest compressive strength was obtained when wasted refractory aggregate was replaced 2%.

  • With environmental regulations continuously being strengthened internationally the need to control environmental pollution and environmental load is emerging in Korea. The purpose of this study is to seek methods or using waste cementitious powder as an alternative raw material for limestone through the optimization of raw material and to quantitatively analyze the resulting reduction of $CO_2$ emission in order to contribute to solving the issue of waste, which is the biggest issue in relation to construction and global warming. The results of the study, show that waste cementitious powder can be used as an alternative raw material for limestone at OPC level, but it was also found that mixing fine aggregate cementitious powder into waste cementitious powder significantly affected the substitution rate for limestone with waste cementitious powder and the reduction of greenhouse gas. In particular, when fine aggregate cementitious powder was used at a rate of 0~20%, the substitution rate for limestone and the reduction in the rate of greenhouse gas emission was significantly reduced. It is thought that a technique to efficiently separate and discharge the fine aggregate cementitious powder mixed in waste cementitious powder needs to be developed in the future.

  • The high-flowing concrete requires additionally or excessively more expensive admixture than conventional concrete. So, the concrete has not to be widely used in practical field due to the increase of production price, need of additional facilities, and excessive development of concrete strength in associate with addition of too much cementitious material even though it has more significant advantages than conventional concrete. Thus, this study aims at developing high-flowing concrete with general strength unlike high strength which has been carried out in conventional study. To observe the role of aggregate in the concrete quantitatively and to increase the performance of high-flowing concrete effectively, parametric studies were carried out such as W/C, s/a, fineness modulus of aggregate, contribution degree of particle sizes, and the effect of 13mm aggregate and fine stone powder as a partial replacement of aggregates. And the effect of these factors on performance of the concrete was evaluated by measuring slump-flow and gap of penetration height in U-typed instrument. As a result, it was found that flowability of high-flowing concrete depends upon grading of fine aggregate more significantly than that of coarse aggregate and is enhanced greatly as fineness modulus of fine aggregate decreases and the value of s/a increases. In addition, the application of 13mm aggregate and fine stone powder are expected as a partial replacement of aggregate in order to increase the performance of high-flowing concrete more effectively.

  • Generally, when Fly-Ash was used as replacement material of cement in concrete, it might occur retardation of setting and hardening. So, it is unable to use a large amount of Fly-Ash as replacement for cement. However, if it is used as replacement material of fine aggregate in concrete, we can use a large amount of Fly-Ash and settle a problem of natural-aggregate exhaustion. Furthermore, engineering properties of High Volume Fly-Ash Concrete Is better than that of plain concrete But, the larger Fly-Ash is replaced, the more fluidity of High Volume Fly-Ash Concrete decrease, because porous organization of Fly-Ash adsorb water and Superplasticizer. In this study, after appending additional water to High Volume Fly-Ash Concrete in proportion to weight of Fly-Ash, we intend to find proper ratio which doesn't affect strength and satisfy fluidity As a result of this study, it was found that fluidity of mortar with 25~28 percentage of additional water was satisfied with fluidity of plain mortar, and compressive strength of that was similar to plain mortar's

  • Drying Shrinkage has much complexity as it has relations with both internal elements of concrete and external factors. Therefore, experiments on Concrete Drying Shrinkage are carried out in this study under simplified circumstances applying temperature & Humidity test chamber which enables constant temperature and humidify. Comparative analyses have been made respectively according to the consequences aiming at modelling for prediction of Concrete Drying Shrinkage and making out measures to reduce it. As a result Strain Rate of Drying Shrinkage of concrete was measured to increase by average $10{\times}10^{-5}$ in proportion to additional 4% increase in fine aggregate ratio, when water/cement ratio constant. Strain Rate of Drying Shrinkage in pit sand concrete increased 20% higher than measured when in river sand under the condition of 90-day material age. 6. Strain Rate of Drying Shrinkage in sea sand concrete increased $10%{\sim}15%$ higher than measured when in river sand. The results of prediction of Rate of Drying Shrinkage by Response Surface Analysis are as fellows. The coefficient of correlation of Drying Shrinkage in concrete was over 90%.

  • The aim of the research is to evaluate the possibility of using coal gasification slag (CGS) as a combined aggregate for concrete mixture. To achieve this goal, the fundamental properties and the durability of concrete were analyzed depending on various combining ratio of CGS into both fine aggregate with favorable gradation and relatively coarse particles. According to the results of the experiment, slump and slump flow were increased with content of CGS regardless of crushed fine aggregate with good and poor gradations while the air content was decreased. For the compressive strength of the concrete, in the case of using the crushed aggregate with good gradation, increasing CGS content decreased compressive strength of the concrete, while when the concrete used crushed aggregate with poor gradation, the compressive strength was the maximum at 50% of CGS content. As a durability assessment, drying shrinkage was decreased and carbonation resistance was improved by increasing CGS content. On the other hand, for freeze-thawing resistance, CGS influenced adverse effect on freeze-thawing resistance. Therefore, it is known that an additional air entrainer is needed to increase the freeze-thawing resistance when CGS was used as a combined aggregate for concrete.

  • In this research the physical properties of polymer modified mortar containing pulverized FRP(Fiber-Reinforced Plastics) wastes fine powder as a part of fine aggregate were investigated. Styrene-butadiene rubber(SBR) latex, polyacrylic ester(PAE) emulsion and ethylene-vinyl acetate(EVA) emulsion were used as Polymer modifier. Polymer modified mortars containing FRP wastes fine powder were prepared with various FRP wastes fine powder replacement(5∼30 wt%) for fine aggregate and polymer-cement ratios(5∼20 wt%). The water-cement ratio, water absorption rates and hot water immersion test, compressive and flexural strengths of polymer modified mortars were tested and the results compared to those of ordinary portland cement mortar. As the results, compressive and flexural strengths of polymer modified mortar containing FRP wastes fine powder depend on the contents of FRP wastes fine powder, type and additional amounts of polymer modifier. Some of them showed higher compressive and flexural strengths than those of ordinary portland cement mortar. Especially, SBR-modified mortar showed the highest strengths properties among three types of polymer modifier. Also water absorption rates, compressive and flexural strengths of SBR-modified mortar were more superior than those of PAE or EVA-modified mortar. The optimum mix proportions of SBR-modified mortar was 20 wt% of polymer-cement ratio and 20 wt% of FRP wastes fine powder replacement. Otherwise heat cured polymer modified mortar accelerated the improvement of early compressive and flexural strengths.
