Voice Expression using a Cochlear Filter Model

  • Speech sounds were practically applied to a cochlear filter which was simulated by an electrical transmission line. The amplitude of the basilar membrane displacement was calculated along the length of the cochlea in temporal response. And the envelope of the amplitude according to the length was arranged for each discrete time interval. The resulting time response of the speech sound was then displayed as a color image. Five vowels such as a, e, I, o, u were applied and their results were compared. The whole procedure of the visualization method of the speech sound using the cochlear filter is described in detail. The filter model response to voice is visualized by passing the voice through the cochlear filter model.

A column study of effect of filter media on the performance of sand filter

  • Sand filter is a key unit process for particle removal in water purification treatments. Its long-standing use is due to on-site customized retrofit. Proper selection of filter media is one of the retrofit approaches to improve filter performance. This study described a series of controlled laboratory column tests and examined the effects of media property on filtration and backwash. When sand media of 0.51 mm in effective size was replaced by sand of 0.60 mm, the filter run increased up to 5 times in the given bed depth. The change of media property required an increase of backwash rate by 0.05 m/min to satisfy the requirement of bed expansion, more than 20%. When the anthracite was changed with lower effective size and uniformity coefficient, correlation with sand in the filter bed could be satisfied within the permissible error between media and bulk characteristics. Besides, this selection resulted in a well-stratified configuration of media layers after bed expansion. The column study showed that the correlation of property between the dual media had a significant effect on the filter productivity and backwash interval.

Prediction of Venturi Effect on Pressure Drop in Pulse Air Jet Bag Filter (충격기류식 여과집진장치에서 벤츄리가 압력손실에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to predict the pressure drop due to the installation of venturi under diverse operating conditions such as dust concentration, pulse interval and pressure, and filtration velocity using algebraic-linear regression model and use it as an economic data and efficient operating condition for a pulse air jet bag filter. A pilot scale bag filter with a filter a filter size(Ø140 × 850ℓ, 12) was used, and the filters used in the experiment were the polyester filters most commonly used in real industrial sites. The SAS 9.4 program (SAS Institute, USA) was used to predict and to determine the effects of inlet concentration (Ci), pulse interval (Pi) and pressure (Pp), filtration velocity (Vf), presence or absence of venturi, etc. The results are shown below. The variation in pressure drop with or without venturi installation was 38.8 mmAq when venturi is installed and 47.6 mmAq when venturi is not installed, indicating a difference in pressure drop of 8.8 mmAq depending on venturi installation. It is estimated that the efficiency can be improved by about 18.5% if the venturi is installed.

  • A new estimationn mothod of single-EP(evoked potential) using adaptive algorithm and paralnetrlc model is proposed. Since the EEG(eletroencephalogram) signal is stationary in short time interval the AR(autoregressive) parameters of the EEG are estimated by the Burg algorithm using the EEG of prestimulus interval. After stimulus, the single-EP is estimated by adaptive algorithm. The validity of this method is verified by the simulation for generated auditory single-EP based on parametric model.

Analysis of an LCLC Resonant Converter with a Capacitive Output Filter

  • This paper presents an analysis of a 4th order LCLC resonant converter with a capacitive output filter using the state-space approach. The analysis of the converter shows that there are four intervals in a half period. In each interval, the state-space equations are obtained. Due to the soft switching of the converter, an exact equation for the Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) time and the maximum dead time of the inverter switches are presented. The simulation and experimental results obtained from a 10kv, 370w prototype confirm the validity of the theoretical analysis.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient method for implementing the adaptive second-order Volterra filter. To reduce computational load, the UCFD-SVF has been proposed. The UCFD-SVF, however, shows deteriorated convergence performance. We propose a new method that initializes the adaptive filter weights periodically on the fact that the energy of the filter weights is slowly increased. Furthermore, we propose another method that the interval for the weight initialization is variable to guarantee the performance and we shows the method gives the better performance under the non-stationary environment through the computer simulation for the adaptive system identification.

  • In this study, we consider a multi-input multi-output styrene polymerization reactor system for which the monomer conversion and the weight average molecular weight are controlled by manipulating the jacket inlet temperature and the feed flow rate. The reactor system is identified by using a linear subspace identification method and then the output feedback model predictive controller is constructed on the basis of the identified model. Here we use the Best Linear Unbiased Estimation (BLUE) filter as a stochastic estimator instead of the Kalman filter. The BLUE filter observes the state successfully without any a priori information of initial states. In contrast to the Kalman filter, the BLUE filter eliminates the offset by observing the state of the augmented system regardless of a priori information of the initial state for an integral white noise augmented system. A BLUE filter has a finite impulse response (FIR) structure which utilizes finite measurements and inputs on the most recent time interval [i-N, i] in order to avoid long processing times.

  • The temperature distribution in a surface of diesel particulate filter(DPF) was measured using an infrared temperature camera. In order to regenerate the DPF, five partitioned electric heaters were used for heating the ceramic filter. The five partitioned heaters were switched on/off with some time interval one the other. The surface temperature distribution in the ceramic filter and electric heaters were measured with varying both the electrical power supply to the heaters and the mass flow rate of the air supply from a blower. The higher mass flow rate in the DPF system enhanced the uniformity in the surface temperature distribution of the ceramic filter due to effective convection heat transfer. The flow in the monolith ceramic structure of the DPF move mainly in the axial direction, which could be identified from the surface temperature of the ceramic filter.

  • An integrating position estimation algorithm has been developed for the navigation system of a free-ranging AGV system. The navigation system focused in this research work consists of redundant wheel encoders for the relative position measurement and a vision sensor for the absolute position measurement. A maximum likelihood method and an extended Kalman filter are implemented for enhancing the performance of the position estimator. The maximum likelihood estimator processes noisy, redundant wheel encoder measurements and yields efficient estimates for the AGV motion between each sampling interval. The extended Kalman filter fuses inharmonious positional data from the deadreckoner and the vision sensor and computes the optimal position estimate. The simulation results show that the proposed position estimator solves a generalized estimation problem for locating the vehicle accurately in space.

On fast FSK Modulation (Fast FSK변조에 관한 연구)

  • The waveform, power spectrum and optimal receiver structure for fast FSK are analysed. It is shown and verified experimentally that for the observation interval of two bit periods, the bit error rate is as good as that of PSK. At the same time, it is shown to have the advantage of narrower band width than PSK. In experiment, the FFSK signal is generated by using a binary transversal filter and a low pass filter.
