This paper considers a two-user Gaussian interference channel with energy harvesting transmitters. Different than conventional battery powered wireless nodes, energy harvesting transmitters have to adapt transmission to availability of energy at a particular instant. In this setting, the optimal power allocation problem to maximize the sum throughput with a given deadline is formulated. The convergence of the proposed iterative coordinate descent method for the problem is proved and the short-term throughput maximizing offline power allocation policy is found. Examples for interference regions with known sum capacities are given with directional water-filling interpretations. Next, stochastic data arrivals are addressed. Finally, online and/or distributed near-optimal policies are proposed. Performance of the proposed algorithms are demonstrated through simulations.
The foam concrete was fabricated by adding the foaming agent which composite ordinary Portland cement with plant and animal protein into cement paste, and the electromagnetic wave absorption properties were studied for the first time as well. The studies showed that the electromagnetic waves can be absorbed by multiple reflections and scattering within the porous material. Thickness and filling ratio have a great influence on the electromagnetic wave absorbing properties in 2-18 GHz of the foam concrete, the greater the thickness, the better the performance of absorption; filling ratio was about 52 vol.%, the absorbing properties achieved the best.

Information security films that can ensure personal privacy by reducing the viewing angle of display screens were fabricated by microlouver patterning and a ZnO nano-ink filling process. Optical simulation results demonstrated that all the microlouver films showed good security performances. Security performances were evaluated as calculated relative luminance ratios compared between the side and front. Based on the simulation results, microlouver films were fabricated by UV imprint lithography and nano-ink bar coating. However, distortion of the microlouver pattern occurred with the use of high-viscosity nano-inks such as ZrO2 and TiO2, and the CuO-filled microlouver film suffered from very low optical transmittance. Accordingly, the effects of ZnO filling height on security performance were intensively investigated through simulation and experimental measurements. The fabricated microlouver film with a 75-㎛-high ZnO filling exhibited a good relative luminance ratio of 0.75 at a 60° side angle and a transmittance of 44% at a wavelength of 550 nm.

In this paper the fuel filling system for a city bus was investigated in order to improve the system. The suggested fuel filling system was designed to have functions of identifying a bus arrival tine, and measuring volume of fuel filled. The system consisted of four parts of bus identification, IBM PC, interface card, fuel filling control system and program for integrating all parts. It is believed that the information obtained by this system can be used for analysing driver's driving habits and performance of engine of a bus, and accordingly the prime cost can be reduced.

Recently, precast type SCP modules are being used instead of PSC structures in order to reduce the construction period and costs of special structures such as nuclear power plants and LNG storage tanks. The inside of the SCP module is connected with a stud for the integral behavior of the steel and concrete, and the use of high fluidity concrete is required. High fluidity concrete generally has a high content of binder, which leads to an increase in hydration heat and shrinkage, and a problem of non-uniform strength development. Therefore, in this study, fluidity and passing performance of high fluidity concrete according to material properties are investigated to select optimum mix design of low binder based high fluidity concrete. Mechanical properties of high fluidity concrete before and after pumping are examined using pump car. The filling performance of SCP mock-up members was evaluated by using high fluidity concrete finally.
This paper proposes a novel reliability analysis method which computes reliability index, most probable point and probability of failure of uncertain systems more efficiently and accurately with compared to Monte Carlo, first-order reliability and response surface methods. It consists of Initial and Simulation steps. In Initial step, a number of space-filling designs are selected throughout the variables space, and then in Simulation step, performances of most of samples are estimated via interpolation using the space-filling designs, and only for a small number of the samples actual performance function is used for evaluation. In better words, doing so, we use a simple interpolation function called "reduced" function instead of the actual expensive-to-evaluate performance function of the system to evaluate most of samples. By using such a reduced function, total number of evaluations of actual performance is significantly reduced; hence, the method can be called Reduced Function Evaluations method. Reliabilities of six examples including series and parallel systems with multiple failure modes with truncated and/or non-truncated random variables are analyzed to demonstrate efficiency, accuracy and robustness of proposed method. In addition, a reliability-based design optimization algorithm is proposed and an example is solved to show its good performance.
In general, simulation models are effectively used in the field of engineering design. The experiment with simulation models to obtain optimal design parameters, however, is a time-consuming task and requires a lot of resources. Hence, meta-models representing the relationships between input variables and performance measures are exploited to efficiently determine the value of design parameters. To construct a meta-model, a number of simulation executions with sample scenarios are required. The number and quality of sample scenarios determine not only the level of efficiency in constructing the meta-model but also accuracy of the model. Space-filling condition is regarded to be an important condition for the quality of scenarios. This paper proposes sample scenario generation methods based on space-filling measures such as maxmin, Audze-Eglais, and centered L2-discrepancy. The performance of these scenario generation methods are evaluated through experiments.

The substitution of conventional fuel oil by alternative fuels is of immense interest due to liquid oil shortage and requirements of emission control standard. Among the alternative fuels, natural gas may be the most rational fuel, because of its widespread resource and clean est burning. Meanwhile, engine simulation is of great importance in engine development. Hence a zero-dimensional combustion model was developed for dual-fuel system. Natural gas was injected directly into the cylinder and small amount of distillate was used to provide the ignition kernel for natural gas burning. The intake air and exhaust gas flow was modeled by filling and emptying method. Although the single zone approach has an inherent limitation, the model showed promise as a predictive tool for engine performance. Its simulation was also made to see how the engine performance was influenced by the fuel injection timings and amount of each fuel.

In this study, it was analyzed by a numerical analysis that plan/design considerations for ensuring the spectator safety of large arena audiences in a fire emergency evacuation plan. The latest issue, the 'performance-based design', fire and evacuation plan is important. But nowadays 'Specification-based design' is in common. In evacuation simulation, congestion of exit and aisle is ignored because only evacuation time of large-space is mainly analyzed. In smoke flow,'smoke filling effect' tends to be overrated. From now on, when design a field house, it is needed not 'smoke filling effect' and 'large-space evacuation' analysis, but analyzing 'whole building evacuation time' for ensuring fire evacuation safety of spectator.

The design and manufacture of injection molded polymeric parts with desired properties is a costly process dominated by empiricism including repeated modification of actual tooling. This paper presents and expert design evaluation system which can predict the mechanical performance of a molded product and diagnose the design before the actual mold is machined. The knowledge-based system synergistically combines a rule-based expert system with CAE programs. An iterative boundary pressure reflection method(IBPR) is developed to automate the cavity filling simulation program and to predict thermo-mechanical properties of a molded part precisely. Mathematical models of weldline and frozen-in molecular orientation are established to determine the spatial variation of microstructural anisotropies of a molded part from the result of cavity filling simulation. The strength ellipse is devised as and index which represents th spatial distribution of the microstructural anisotropies of a molded part, Heuristic knowledge of injection molding, flow simulation, and mechanical performance prediction is formalized as rules of an expert consultation system. The expert system interprets the analytical results of the process simulation, predicts the performance, evaluates the design and generates recommendations for optimal design alternative.
