In this study, seepage control effect of relief well was evaluated quantitatively on embankment of small fill dam and levee. Seepage analysis of dam and levee were carried out according to the permeability of fill material and foundation and to analyze behaviour characteristics of seepage. The up-lift pressure at toe of embankment was analyzed which is generated by seepage according to relief well installation condition. The relief well could reduce pore water pressure which is to cause piping or up-lift pressure at foundation ground of embankment and it does not be influenced on geometric condition such as dam height and slope incline. In case of relative low permeable ground, the pore water pressure reduction effect of relief well was decreased compare with high permeable ground but it shows pore water pressure reduction effect compare with no relief well condition. The reduction effect of relief well shows relative gap according to diameter and penetration length of relief well and the installation length of relief well is the most effective factor for seepage control.

This paper contains experimental study for the development and performance of TBM backfill material with thixotropic properties. The LW backfill material is widely applied to fill the cavity on the back side of the shield TBM excavation, but has disadvantages such as settlement caused by strength reduction, material separation by groundwater, and reduced plasticity. In this paper, laboratory tests and a model test were conducted to assess the performance of inorganic thixotropic backfill material proposed to improve these problems. The results of laboratory tests show that 1 hr-uniaxial compressive strength of ITB was 12 times higher than LW, and the rate of bleeding of 20 hr was 8.3 times lower, and the result of flow table test was more than 27 times higher. This result indicated that the inorganic thixotropic backfill material has superior properties to LW backfill in terms of strength reduction, material separation, and thixotropy. In the model experiment, a model injection device tester was manufactured and the injection performance and filling rate were verified. When material was injected in the water, it was visually checked whether material separation occurred, and it was confirmed that the filling rate was 96% or more. Comparison results with the test of LW and ITB materials was concluded that ITB can reduce the material separation by groundwater and the occurrence of tunnel cavity.
Recently, industrial by-products are exponentially growing because energy consumption is increasing due to rapid industrial development and improved living standards. The purpose of this study is to determine the proper mixing ratio to meet the liner conditions(must be less than $1{\times}10^{-7}$cm/sec), using pond ash and bentonite as liner. As the result of the compaction test, depending on the increase mixing ratio of bentonite, the maximum dry unit weight was decreased but the optimum moisture content was tended to be increased at the compaction curve. As the result of the permeability test, depending on the increase mixing ratio of bentonite, the coefficient of permeability showed tendency to be decreased in the form of index and the tendency was caused by the hydration reactions filling the void of the pond ash. When the mixing ratio of bentonite was approximately over 15%, it was satisfied with the land fill liner conditions. In other words, it is necessary to consider other mixtures containing the cement or another material in the economical aspect for application of the pond ash.
The degree of compaction of embankments is generally measured using the sand replacement method or a soil density gauge. However, these methods include coarse particles, which are relatively large. The degree of compaction is overestimated if the in-situ soil density is simply compared with the density obtained from a Proctor compaction test (KS F 2312, 2001), because the density of coarse particles is higher than that of soil. However, there is no recommended correction for the coarse particle ratio in Korea, thus intentionally increasing the degree of compaction for structures to which large loads are applied or for which compaction is critical. Here, a correction considering the Korean Proctor compaction test and the difference between the maximum allowable particle sizes was recommended after corrections for coarse particle ratios in other countries were collected and analyzed. The degree of compaction was re-estimated by applying the recommended correction to the results of both Proctor compaction and sand replacement tests. The degree of compaction without the correction of coarse particle ratio was overestimated, because the re-estimated degree of compaction decreased as the coarse particle ratio increased. The relatively accurate results obtained from the field application of the correction will offer long-term cost savings due to reduced maintenance fees during operation.
Leakage studies have been performed frequently, since a fluid-tight seal provided by various dental fill-ing materials has been considered clinically important. The leakage of the various root-end filling materials has been widely investigated mostly dye penetration method. These dye studies cannot offer any information about the quality of the seal of a test material over a long period of time The purpose of this study was to evaluate the microleakage of root end cavities in blood contamination filed amalgam, intermediate restorative material(IRM), light cured glass ionomer cement(GI) and mineral trioxide aggregate(MTA) by means of a modified fluid transport model. Fifty standard human root sections, each 5mm high and with a central pulp lumen of 3mm in diameter, were and filled with our commonly used or potential root end fill ing materials after they were contaminated with blood. At 24h. 72h, 1, 2, 4, 8, and 12 weeks after filling, leakage along these filling materials was determined under a low pressure of 10KPa(0.1atm) using a fluid transport model. The results were as follows : 1 MTA group showed a tendency of decreasing percent of gross leakage (20m1/day) in process of time, whereas the other materials showed a tendency of increasing in the process time. 2. At the all time interval, GI group leaked significantly less than amalgam group and IRM group (p<0.05). 3. At the 4 weeks, the percentage of gross leakage in MTA group decreased to 0% thereafter, the low per-centage of gross leakage was maintained in MTA group until the end of the experiment, whereas the percentage in IRM group increased to 100% 4. At the 12 weeks, percentage of gross leakage was significantly low in MTA group(0%), comparison with GI group(40%), amalgam group(90%) and IRM group(100%), but there was no significant difference between latter two materials.

Recently, Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 (CZTSS), which is one of the In- and Ga- free absorber materials, has been attracted considerable attention as a new candidate for use as an absorber material in thin film solar cells. The CZTSS-based absorber material has outstanding characteristics such as band gap energy of 1.0 eV to 1.5 eV, high absorption coefficient on the order of 104 cm-1, and high theoretical conversion efficiency of 32.2% in thin film solar cells. Despite these promising characteristics, research into CZTSS based thin film solar cells is still incomprehensive and related reports are quite few compared to those for CIGS thin film solar cells, which show high efficiency of over 20%. I will briefly overview the recent technological development of CZTSS thin film solar cells and then introduce our research results mainly related to sputter based process. CZTSS thin film solar cells are prepared by sulfurization of stacked both metallic and sulfide precursors. Sulfurization process was performed in both furnace annealing system and rapid thermal processing system using S powder as well as 5% diluted H2S gas source at various annealing temperatures ranging from $520^{\circ}C$ to $580^{\circ}C$. Structural, optical, microstructural, and electrical properties of absorber layers were characterized using XRD, SEM, TEM, UV-Vis spectroscopy, Hall-measurement, TRPL, etc. The effects of processing parameters, such as composition ratio, sulfurization pressure, and sulfurization temperature on the properties of CZTSS absorber layers will be discussed in detail. CZTSS thin film solar cell fabricated using metallic precursors shows maximum cell efficiency of 6.9% with Jsc of 25.2 mA/cm2, Voc of 469 mV, and fill factor of 59.1% and CZTS thin film solar cell using sulfide precursors shows that of 4.5% with Jsc of 19.8 mA/cm2, Voc of 492 mV, and fill factor of 46.2%. In addition, other research activities in our lab related to the formation of CZTS absorber layers using solution based processes such as electro-deposition, chemical solution deposition, nano-particle formation will be introduced briefly.

This study aims at investigating the size-dependent free vibration of porous nanoplates when exposed to hygrothermal environment and rested on Kerr foundation. Based on the modified power-law model, material properties of porous functionally graded (FG) nanoplates are supposed to change continuously along the thickness direction. The generalized nonlocal strain gradient elasticity theory incorporating three scale factors (i.e. lower- and higher-order nonlocal parameters, strain gradient length scale parameter), is employed to expand the assumption of second shear deformation theory (SSDT) for considering the small size effect on plates. The governing equations are obtained based on Hamilton's principle and then the equations are solved using an analytical method. The elastic Kerr foundation, as a highly effected foundation type, is adopted to capture the foundation effects. Three different patterns of porosity (namely, even, uneven and logarithmic-uneven porosities) are also considered to fill some gaps of porosity impact. A comparative study is given by using various structural models to show the effect of material composition, porosity distribution, temperature and moisture differences, size dependency and elastic Kerr foundation on the size-dependent free vibration of porous nanoplates. Results show a significant change in higher-order frequencies due to small scale parameters, which could be due to the size effect mechanisms. Furthermore, Porosities inside of the material properties often present a stiffness softening effect on the vibration frequency of FG nanoplates.

With the development of the Internet of Things, the use of flexible displays has become widespread. In particular, the use of curved, bendable, and rollable displays is increasing. Flexible display production processes include various important components such as lamination material, flexible substrates, and adhesives. Among them, improvement of the lamination process comprises a large proportion of efforts for further development. In this paper, we attempt to improve the transmittance of the display substrate by performing a bubble removal process after adhesion. The transmittance of the glass substrate with the bubble removal process was 5~12% higher than that of the substrate without the bubble removal process. The fill-strength after the bubble removal process was improved by 21.4%, and the shear-strength was improved by 43.9%.
In earthwork projects, the designer considers cut and fill balance for minimizing earthwork which may significantly decrease construction costs. Despite carrying out considerable earthwork design, the decrease in volume of earth occurs in construction sites because of embankment settlement under self-weight, consolidation settlement of soft ground, cavity filling and soil loss due to rainfall-runoff. To reflect the decrease in volume of earth, the specifications for road construction just give shrinkage factors in embankment for soils without consideration of embankment settlement under self-weight. In this study, the computational method is used to estimate the amount of embankment settlement under self-weight developed by Iseda (1972) and Ishii (1976). This research shows that the total compression settlements are between 3 to 10 percent of embankment height according to the property of embankment material and embankment height. As a result, the designer should consider the compression settlement on embankment material under selt-weight.

Degradation is commonly observed in field-aged PV modules due to corrosion of the photovoltaic ribbon. The reduced performance is caused by a loss of fill factor due to the high series resistance in the PV ribbon. This study aimed to mitigate the degradation by corrosion using five sacrificial anodes - Al, Zn and their alloys - to identify the most effective material to mitigate the corrosion of the PV ribbon. The corrosion behavior of the five sacrificial anode materials were examined by open circuit potential measurements, potentiodynamic polarization tests, and galvanic current density and potential measurements using a zero resistance ammeter. Immersion tests for 120 hours were also conducted using materials and damp heat test tests were performed for 1500 hours using 4 cell mini modules. The Al-3Mg and Al-3Zn-1Mg sacrificial anodes had a low corrosion rate and reduced drop in power, making then suitable for long-term use.
