Sensorless Control of the Synchronous Reluctance Machine

  • The paper deals with the control of the synchronous reluctance machine without position senser. A method for the computation of the transformation angle out of terminal voltages and currents is presented. The injection of test signals allows operation at zero speed. Fundamental for this control scheme is the angle estimation method over the whole operating range including field-weakening is discussed in detail. The implementation of the angle estimation method in a rotor-oriented control scheme and practical results are demonstrated.

  • The paper deals with the control of the synchronous reluctance machine without position sensor.   • Recently, owing to environmental problems and instability of rare earth resources market, non-rare earth electric motors are attracting attention. As a non-rare earth motor type, a wound rotor synchronous motor(WRSM) has high power density and wide driving range further it can reduce loss by field current control during field weakening control at high speed. However, since the d-axis flux of the WRSM is coupled with the rotor circuit, the fluctuation in the d-axis flux linkage affects the rotor circuit, which causes ripple of the field current and torque. In this paper, we propose the field current ripple compensation method by injecting the feedforward voltage. the proposed compensating method was demonstrated by simulation and experiments.

  • Belt-driven Starter Generator (BSG) differs from other mild hybrid systems as the crankshaft of vehicle are not run off. Motor permits a low-cost method of adding mild hybrid capabilities such as start-stop, power assist, and mild levels of regenerative braking. Wound rotor synchronous motor (WRSM) could be adopted in BSG system for HEV e-Assisted application instead of the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM). In practice, adequate torque is indispensable for starter assist system, and energy conversion should be taken into account for the HEV or EV as well. Particularly, flux weakening control is possible to realize by adjusting both direct axis components of current and field current in WRSM. Accordingly, this paper present an off-line current acquisition algorithm that can reasonably combine the stator and field current to acquire the maximum torque, meanwhile the energy conversion is taken into consideration by losses. Besides, on account of inductance influence by non-uniform air gap around rotor, nonlinear inductances and armature flux linkage against current variation are proposed to guarantee the results closer to reality. A computer-aided method for proposed algorithm are present and results are given in form of the Look-up table (LUT). The experiment shows the validity of algorithm.

EV 파워트레인에서 IPMSM의 토크 제어를 통한 에너지 변환에 관한 연구 (A study on Energy Conversion through Torque Control of IPMSM in EV Powertrain)

  • 본 연구에서는 전기 자동차(EV : Electric Vehicle) 파워트레인의 에너지 변환 특성과 설계를 수행하였다. 그리고 EV 파워트레인의 동력원으로서 영구자석 매입형 동기 모터(IPMSM : Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor)를 대상으로 하였으며 제어를 수행하였다. IPMSM을 구동하기 위해서는 두 가지 영역인 일정한 토크와 일정한 출력(약계자) 영역이 사용되며, IPMSM을 위한 제어 시스템의 설계는 d-q 레퍼런스 프레임(벡터 제어)을 바탕으로 구성하였다. IPMSM의 두 영역에서 나타나는 모터 토크의 정적 특성을 결정하기 위해 IPMSM의 토크제어 시스템과 d축 전류 제어 시스템을 제안 및 구현하였다. 특성해석을 위해서 Matlab-Simulink 소프트웨어를 사용하였다. 최종적으로 실제 차량 사양을 기준으로 EV 차량 레벨 조건으로 변경하여 파워트레인 모델에 IPMSM을 적용하였으며 제안된 제어 시스템의 시뮬레이션 결과를 수행했고 특성을 분석하였다.

Comparative Analysis of Integer-order and Fractional-order Proportional Integral Speed Controllers for Induction Motor Drive Systems

  • Linear proportional-integral (PI) controllers are an attractive choice for controlling the speed of induction machines because of their simplicity and ease of implementation. Fractional-order PI (FO-PI) controllers, however, perform better than PI controllers because of their nonlinear nature and the underlying iso-damping property of fractional-order operators. In this work, an FO-PI controller based on the proposed first-order plus dead-time induction motor model and integer-order (IO) controllers, such as Ziegler-Nichols PI, Cohen-Coon PI, and a PI controller tuned via trial-and-error method, is designed. Simulation and experimental investigation on an indirect field-oriented induction motor drive system proves that the proposed FO-PI controller has better speed tracking, lesser settling time, better disturbance rejection, and lower speed tracking error compared with linear IO-PI controllers. Our experimental study also validates that the FO-PI controller maximizes the torque per ampere output of the induction machine and can effectively control the motor at low speed, in field-weakening regions, and under detuned conditions.

  • This paper presents a strategy to drive built in-type spindle induction motor which is used as CNC (Computer Numerical Control) in the industrial world. The direct vector control which is robust to the changed machine parameters in the high speed range is used in this motor control method. And electrical model of induction motor presents the basic idea based on observer structure, which is composed of voltage model and current model. But the former has the defects in low speed range, the latter has the defects of sensitivity to motor parameter. Thus Gopinath model flux estimator which is the closed loop flux observer based on two models for the rotor flut estimation is used in this paper. Moreover this paper presents to drive the spindle motor in the high speed range by using the flux weakening control.

  • In this paper, design of Wound Rotor Synchronous Motor(WRSM) for Integrated Starter and Generator(ISG) is performed based on Finite Element Analysis(FEA). WRSM can control not only magnitude and phase of armature current, but also field current. Thus, various control methods can be considered. Since driving characteristic of WRSM depends greatly on the control method, characteristic analysis accoding to possible driving current combination is reguired. Especially in high speed region, the control method that reduces unnecessary d-axis current by reducing field current is possible, which is similar to field weakening control. By the current combination reducing field and d-axis current, the design minimizing copper loss to increase efficiency on identical driving point is possible. In this paper, high efficient WRSM is designed applying the current combination which can minimize copper loss on each driving point.

  • Samsung Electronics has developed high performance velocity and position controller for induction motors, and succeeded in mass production for the first time in Korea. Dynamic performance and final control accuracy of the controller are equivalent to those of AC servo motor controller. At present, we adopted the controller as spindle motor drive for Samsung CNC systems, and expect its wide use in industry as general purpose velocity and position controller for induction motor.

  • IPMSM(Interior Permanent Magnet Motor) 운전을 위한 기존의 약계자 제어기는 약계자 운전 시 필요한 고정자 전류에 대한 명확한 기준이 없어 실험을 통해 알아볼 수밖에 없다. 이를 개선하고자 본 논문에서는 전류위상각 제어기를 이용하여 최적의 고정자 전류를 찾는 약계자 제어기를 제안하고 시뮬레이션을 시행하여 제안한 알고리즘의 효용성을 입증한다.
