  • In the Ulleung basin in the East Sea of Korea, it is assumed that huge amounts of gas hydrate(GH) are buried. In 2010, drilling operation was performed at the 2nd Ulleung Basin Gas Hydrate Drilling Expedition(UBGH2) to designate a site for field production test. In this study, based on the field production test site model reflecting geological properties, GH dissociation flow interpretation is analyzed and sensitivity analysis is performed to gain understanding of production behavior properties following bottomhole pressure(BHP) variation by using the numerical simulation. The results of this study provide a basis for the preliminary analysis of field production test site.

  • Recently, while rockfall occurs very frequently, a lot of researches on the rockfall protection fence Is in process. But the rockfall protection fence has been installed unrelated to slope characteristics, rockfall shape and rockfall height. Therefore, in this study we suggested the effective protection fence model considering about rockfall energy and energy absorbing capacity and we verified the model by field test. According to these results, it is more reasonable to evaluate rockfall energy based on the results of simulation program, which can be consider effects of energy decrease, than use the simplified method proposed by Japanese road association. And rockfall energy is affected by the size of supports and wire rope and the space of supports. As the results of comparing rockfall energy with energy absorbing capacity, type$\circled1$(the space of supports is changed to 3.0m)can be available for generally expected rockfall except the rock slope over 30m heights. But rockfall protection fence installed at the field, it should be partially reinforced after consideration of slope particularities and construction conditions.

  • It is necessary for the numerical simulation of 3-dimensional incompressible isotropic decaying turbulence to construct 3-dimensional initial velocity field which resembles the fully developed turbulence. Although the previous velocity field generation method proposed by Rogallo(1981) satisfies continuity equation and 3-dimensional energy spectrum, it has limitation, as indicated in his paper, that it does not produce the higher velocity moments(e. g. velocity derivative skewness) characteristic of real turbulence. In this study, a new velocity field generation method which is able to control velocity derivative skewness of initial velocity field is proposed. Brief descriptions of the new method and a few parameters which is used to control velocity derivative skewness are given. A large eddy simulation(LES) of isotropic decaying turbulence using dynamic subgrid-scale model is carried out to evaluate the performance of the initial velocity field generated by the new method. It was shown that the resolved turbulent kinetic energy decay curve and the resolved enstrophy decay curve from the initial field of new method were more realistic than those from the initial field of Rogallo's method. It was found that the dynamic model coefficient from the former was initially half the stationary value and experienced relatively short transition period, though that from the latter was initially zero and experienced relatively longer transition period.

  • We have fabricated the field emitter arrays coated with diamond-like carbon (DLC) films that improved the field emission characteristics. The nitrogen doped DLC films are prepared by the filtered cathodic vacuum are (FCVA) tehnique. The activation energy of the nitrogen doped DLC films are derived from electrical conductivity measurements. The silicon field emission arrays (FEAs) were prepared by the VLSI technique. The turn-on field was rapidly decreasing and the emission current was remarkably increasing the DLC-coated FEAs than the non-coated silicon FEAs. In the nitrogen doped FEAs, the turn-on field decreased and the emission current increased with increasing the nitrogen found out the field emission current and the work function of the DLC-coated FEAs was remarkably decreased than that of the non-coated silicon FEAs. As nitrogen doping concentrations are increased the work function of FEAs is decreased and the field emission properties are improved in nitrogen doped DLC-coated FEAs. This phenomenon in due the fact that the Fermi energy level moves to the conduction band by increasing nitrogen doping concentration.

  • As an automobile tends to be high grade, the needs for more luxurious interior and comfortable HVAC system are emerged. The defrosting ability is another major factor of the performances of HVAC system. The present work is to simulate the flow and the temperature field of cabin interior during the defrost mode. The three-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and energy equation were solved on the multi blocked grid system by the iterative time marching method and AF scheme, respectively. The present computations were validated by the comparison of the temperature field of a driven cavity and velocity field of 1/5 model scale of an automobile. Generally good agreements were obtained. By the present computation, the complicated features of flow and temperature within the automotive cabin interior could be well understood.

  • Magnetic properties of CoPt nanoparticles (average size = 2.1 nm) encapsulated in synthesized protein shell have been investigated with SQUID (Superconducting Quantum Interference Device) magnetometer and analyzed by the recently developed non-equilibrium magnetization calculation by our group [T. H. Lee et al., Phys. Rev. B 90, 184411 (2014)]. Field dependence of magnetization measured at 2 K was successfully analyzed with modified Langevin function. In addition, small hysteresis loops having the coercive field of 890 Oe were observed at 2 K. Temperature dependence of magnetization has been measured with zero field cooled (ZFC) and field cooled (FC) protocol with slightly modified sequence in accordance with non-equilibrium magnetization calculation. The analysis on the M vs. T data revealed that the anisotropy energy barrier distribution is found to be very different from the log-normal distribution found in a size distribution. Zero temperature coercive field and Bloch coefficient have also been extracted from the analysis and the validity of those values is checked.

  • It has been proved by the semi-classical gauge invariant formulation (GIF) that the correct interaction operator for coupling the field-free material states with the radiation field must be the position form regardless of the gauge chosen for expressing the electromagnetic potentials, in accordance with the well-established principle of gauge invariance. The semi-classical GIF is now extended to the quantized radiation field interacting with matter by defining the energy operator for the quantized radiation field in the presence of matter. It will be shown in this paper that the use of the energy operator guarantees the position form of the interaction operator even in the Coulomb gauge, contrary to the conventional approach in which the dark material Hamiltonian is used to get the interaction operator of the momentum form. The multipolar Hamiltonian is examined in the context of the quantum mechanical gauge transformation.
