In this paper, an iterative subspace-based calibration algorithm for a CDMA-based antenna array in the presence of unknown gain and phase error is presented. The algorithm does not depend on the array geometry and does not require a prior knowledge of the Directions Of Arrival (DOA) of the signals. The method requires the code sequence of a reference user only. The proposed algorithm is based on the subspace method and root finding approach, and it provides estimates of the calibration vector, the DOA and the channel impulse response, by using the code sequence of a reference user. The performance of the proposed algorithm was investigated by means of computer simulations and was verified using field data measured through a custom-built W-CDMA test-bed. The data show that experimental results match well with the theoretical calibration algorithm. Also, teh study propose an efficient algorithm using the simulated annealing technique. This algorithm overcomes the requirement of initial guessing in the subspace-based approach.

In this paper, an integrated navigation system based on GPS(Global Positioning System) and Dead-Reckoning (DR) is designed. For the calibration of DR, a self-calibration method and a GPS-based calibration method are proposed. From the field-test results, it is shown that DR can be successfully calibrated by the two proposed calibration methods. Also, a cascaded filter approach and a mixed-measurement algorithm are employed for GPS/DR integration. By using the newly proposed mixed-measurement algorithm, it is shown in simulation that the position error becomes smaller than by using only DR even if the number of visible GPS satellites is less than 4.

A long-path transmissometer is one of the optical instruments widely used to measure atmospheric light extinction coefficient without enclosing a light beam and perturbing aerosols. Over the past two decades, a number of measurements have been carried out using the long-path transmissometer manufactured by OPTEC, Inc. Calibration of the transmissometer should be performed when any component of the transmissometer system is interchanged or installation condition is changed. For a better calibration of the transmissometer, application of a modified calibration method for the existing neutral density (ND)-filter method was recommended for the computation of the atmospheric transmittance using model MODTRAN 4 in this study. It was revealed that the measured light extinction coefficient from the transmissometer which was calibrated using the existing ND-filter method could be overestimated due to the assumption of the atmospheric transmittance suggested by OPTEC, Inc. The uncertainty of the measured light extinction coefficient from the transmissometer calibrated based on the modified ND-filter method was calculated to be approximately $13Mm^{-1}$.
In recent years, the hyperspectral instruments with high spatial and high spectral resolution have become an important component of wide variety of earth science applications. The primary mission of the proposed Compact Airborne Imaging Spectrometer System (CAISS) in this study is to acquire and provide full contiguous spectral information with high quality spectral and spatial resolution for advanced applications in the field of remote sensing. The CAISS will also be used as the vicarious calibration equipment for the cross-calibration of satellite image data. The CAISS consists of six physical units: the camera system, the Jig, the GPS/INS, the gyro-stabilized mount, the operating system, and the power inverter and distributor. Additionally, the calibration instruments such as the integrated sphere and spectral lamps are also prepared for the radiometric and spectral calibration of the CAISS. The CAISS will provide high quality calibrated image data that can support evaluation of satellite application products. This paper summarizes the design, development and major characteristic of the CAISS.

This study is on the effective methods for non metric camera calibration for its use in accurate close range photogrammetric surveying. We tested four estimation methods used for calculating interior orientation parameters and two methods for building calibration field, one is using targets which have three dimensional coordinates and the other is using two dimensional grid targets. By analysing test results effective and accurate calibration methods were suggested.

This paper presents a composite camera calibration method to determine thermal degradation of power distribution equipment by combining an infrared (IR) camera and a color camera. A calibration jig was first constructed to match the properties of the two cameras. Our calibration and visualization techniques allow for the display of two images, one from the color camera and the other from the IR camera with different field of views (FOVs), on the screen at the same time. To confirm its validity, several case studies have been developed to analyze thermal deterioration limits of indoor and outdoor power distribution facilities.
Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) has developed a Web-based, remote, Internet calibration system to calibrate the Fluke 5700A/5720A calibrator using a transportable standard: specifically, multifunction transfer standard 4950. Although the uncertainty for the Internet calibration is up to two times larger than that using conventional manual calibration, it has many advantages: no need to transport the customer equipment, a reduction in the calibration service time, a directly enforced traceability to the national standards, convenience, and ease of use for the customers.

Calibrations of fast-response krypton hygrometers were carried out using a dew-point hygrometer to investigate the changes in their absorption coefficients due to long-term field operation. Absorption coefficients changed proportionally with the number of hours of field operation. The increase in absorption coefficient indicates that the water vapor flux, calculated with the original absorption coefficient, would underestimate the true flux in the field. To minimize the uncertainty in quantifying evapotranspiration and surface energy budget studies, frequent calibrations (for example, every 1500 hours of field operation) of krypton hygrometer are recommended.
Wind-induced responses of a structure are often evaluated through dynamic analysis, where measured wind forces obtained from a wind-tunnel test and dynamic properties obtained from a FE (Finite Element) model are utilized. However, the FE model generally shows considerable discrepancies in the estimation of natural frequencies compared to field measurements due to some assumptions and simplifications. In this paper, a calibration method that can improve the estimation of natural frequencies in the FE model is proposed, and specific cases are studied for its validity with comparison to the field measurement results.

Recent increase in the number of pixels of a non-metric digital camera encourages to use it for close-range photogrammetry such as modeling cultural asset and buildings. However, these cameras have to be calibrated far close-range photogrammetry application. For self-calibration, an appropriate pbotograrnmetric network and object field should be designed. In this paper, we studied the effect on self-calibration accuracy changes according to the change of the number of ground control points, dimensions of the ground control points, and the combination of images. We concluded that self-calibration with three photos including a vertical photo can give the stable accuracy of interior orientation parameters and 10 ground control points on a plane can give high accuracy for object reconstruction.
