This study is to investigate the effects of nylon(NY) and cellulose(CEL) fiber contents on the mechanical properties of the concrete. The results were summarized as following. Test showed that increase of NY and CEL fiber contents decreased fluidity of fresh concrete, so the loss of the fluidity would be considered when they were over added. Air contents were slight increased, but they satisfied the target air content. Bleeding capacity of concrete containing fiber significantly was declined. In addition, concrete containing higher amounts of fiber retarded setting time remarkably. Plastic shrinkage crack was reduced with the use of fiber due to increasing fiber contents and changing fiber classes, and NY fibers to prevent the plastic shrinkage crack effectively. Compressive and tensile strength of almost specimens were increased when air contents of the fresh concrete were fixed according to fiber contents, and flexural strength was increased according to fiber contents. For the impact strength of specimens, the specimen containing $0.6kg/m^3$ of NY fibers, showed the most favorable impact strength, The fiber reinforced concrete using NY fibers exhibited superior mechanical performance, and it was considered that $0.6kg/m^3$ of was desirable as the most favorable adding amount.

Injection molding is a very important industrial process for the manufacturing of plastics objects. During an injection molding process of composites, the fiber-matrix separation and fiber orientation are caused by the flow of molten polymer/fiber mixture. As a result, the product tends to be nonhomogeneous and anisotropic. Hence, it is very important to clarify the relations between separation· orientation and injection molding conditions. So far, there is no research on the measurement of fiber orientation using image processing. In this study, the effects of fiber content ratio and molding condition on the fiber orientation-angle distributions are studied experimentally. Using the image processing method, the fiber orientation distribution of weld-line parts in injection-molded products is assessed. And the effects of fiber content and injection molding conditions on the fiber orientation functions are also discussed
Aerospace structural applications, along with high performance marine and automotive applications, require high-strength efficiency, which can be achieved using metal matrix composites (MMCs). Rotating components, such as jet-engine blades and gas turbine parts, require materials that maximize strength efficiency and metallurgical stability at elevated temperatures. Titanium matrix composites (TMCs) are well suited in such applications, since they offer an enhanced resistance to temperature effects as well as corrosion resistance, in addition to optimum strength efficiency. The overall behavior of the composite system largly depends on the properties of the interface between fiber and matrix. Characterization of the fiber.matrix interface at operating temperatures is therefore essential for the developemt of these materials. The fiber fragmentation test shows good reproducibility of results in determining interface properties. This paper deals with the evaluation of fiber fragmentation characteristics in TMCs at elevated temperature and the results are compared with tests at ambient temperature. It was observed that tensile testing at $650^{\circ}C$ of single-fiber TMCs led to limited fiber fragmentation behavior. This indicates that the load transfer from the matrix to the fiber occurs due to interfacial friction, arising predominantly from mechanical clamping of the fiber by radial compressive residual and Poisson stresses. The present work also demonstrates that composite processing conditions can significantly affect the nature of the fiber.matrix interface and the resulting fragmentation of the fiber.

Influencing factors on flexural toughness of ring-type fiber reinforced concrete(RSFRC) are investigated. An experiment proceeding ASTM C 78 is peformed to make a comparison between ring-type fibers and double-hook type fibers. Most specimen with ring type fibers have failed by the cone type failure, while discrete hook type fibers have failed by fiber pullout. For the hook-type fiber reinforced concrete(SFRC), the first crack load increases, as the fiber mixing volume increases. Aspect ratio(fiber length/fiber diameter) is critical for hook type fibers, so the flexural toughness increases significantly, as the length of fiber increases. However, for the ring type, the toughness indices Increase as the number of fibers in the specimen increases. Since there is no bond problem between the ring fiber and the concrete matrix, the aspect ratio does not affect the performance of the composite material with the newly developed steel fibers. Influencing factors with respect to flexural toughness RSFRC were observed to be ring diameter, diameter of steel fiber and fiber content.

This study investigates the effect of fiber content on the fracture behavior of thermoplastic composites (glass fiber/polypropylene). The fiber contents used were 20%, 30%, and 40% by weight. Fracture tests were performed using compact tension (CT) specimens made of composite sheets of three fiber contents (20%, 30%, 40%). The results showed that compliance, fracture load, and fracture toughness were affected by the fiber content. The compliance decreased with fiber content while the fracture load increased as the fiber content increased. The fracture toughness also increased as fiber content increased. Specifically, the fracture toughness increased 14% as the fiber content increased from 20% to 40%.

Optical fiber vibrations sensors (OFVSs) and extrinsic Fabry-Perot interferometer (EFPI) were used in damage monitoring of fiber-metal laminates(FML). The optical fiber vibration sensor and EFPI were applied in order to detect and evaluate the strain, damage and failure of FML. Damages in composites, such as matrix cracks, delamination and fiber breakage may occur as a result of excessive load, fatigue and low-velocity impacts. Tensile test was performed with the measurement of optical signal and acoustic emission (AE). The signals of the optical fiber vibration sensor due to damages were quantitatively evaluated by wavelet transform. EFPI was less sensible to the damage signals compared with the optical fiber vibration sensor. It was found that damage information of comparable in quality to acoustic emission data could be obtained from the optical fiber vibration sensor signals.

Light losses in optical fibers are investigated by a fiber optic OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometry) sensor system to develop fiber optic probes for structural strain measurement. The sensing fibers are manufactured 3 kinds of fibers: one is single mode fiber, and second is multimode fiber, and the third is low-cladding-index fiber. Fiber bending tests are performed to determine the strain sensitivity according to the strain of gage length of optical fibers. In the result of this experiments, the strain sensitivity of the single mode fiber was shown the highest value than others. The fiber optic strain probe was manufactured to verify the feasibility of the structural strain measurement. In this test, the fiber optic strain probe of the OTDR sensor could be easily made by the single mode fiber.
This study is conducted on the flexural toughness and flexural fatigue test to fine the mechanical properties of steel fiber reinforced rapid-set cement concrete. Experimental investigation is examined according to fiber contents(0, 0.4, 0.7, 1.0, 1.5%), fiber aspect ratio(58, 60, 83), fiber type (hooked, crimped fiber), and cement type (normal portland & rapid-set cement). The principal results obtained through this study are as follows; toughness and fatigue resistance tend to considerably increase with fiber contents, fiber aspect ration. And hooked fiber is improved better than crimped fiber. Concrete using rapid set cement is increased strength properties compared with concrete using normal portland cement, but relative strength properties behavior and fatigue resistance show a tendency to decrease a little.
Glass fiber drawing from a silica preform is one of the most important processes in optical fiber manufacturing. High purify silica preform of cylindrical shape is fed into the graphite furnace, and then a very thin glass fiber of 125 micron diameter is drawn from the softened and heated preform. A computational analysis is performed to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of preform heating and the glass fiber drawing in the furnace. In addition to the dominant radiative heating of preform by the heating element in the furnace, present analysis also includes the convective heat transport by the gas flowing around the preform that experiences neck-dawn profile and the freshly drawn glass fiber at high fiber drawing speed. The computational results present the effects of gas flow on the temperature of preform and glass fiber as well as the neck-down profile of preform.
