This study investigated the effect of water absorption on the tensile properties of carbon-glass/epoxy hybrid composites at room temperature and $-30^{\circ}C$. To investigate the effect of the position of glass fabric in the hybrid composite on the tensile properties, the stacking pattern of the fiber fabrics for reinforcing was created in three different ways: (a) glass fabrics sandwiched between carbon fabrics, (b) carbon fabrics sandwiched between glass fabrics and (c) alternative layers of carbon and glass fabrics. They were manufactured by a vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) process. The results showed that there was surprisingly little difference in tensile strength at the two different temperatures with dry and wet conditions. However, the water absorption into the hybrid system affected the tensile properties of the hybrid composites at RT and $-30^{\circ}C$. When the glass fabrics were at the outermost layers, the hybrid composite had the lowest tensile properties. This is attributed to the fact that the composite had a relatively high water absorption rate.

In this study, the fiber blending ratio and strain rate effect on the tensile properties synergy effect of hybrid fiber reinforced cement composite was evaluated. Hooked steel fiber(HSF) and smooth steel fiber(SSF) were used for reinforcing fiber. The fiber blending ratio of HSF+SSF were 1.5+0.5, 1.0+1.0 and 0.5+1.5vol.%. As a results, in the cement composite(HSF2.0) reinforced with HSF, as the strain rate increases, the tensile stress sharply decreased after the peak stress because of the decrease in the number of straightened pull-out fibers by increase of micro cracks in the matrix around HSF. When 0.5 vol.% of SSF was mixed, the micro cracks was effectively controlled at the static rate, but it was not effective in controlling micro cracks and improving the pull-out resistance of HSF at the high rate. On the other hand, the specimen(HSF1.0SSF1.0) in which 1.0vol.% HSF and 1.0vol.% SSF were mixed, each fibers controls against micro and macro cracks, and SSF improves the pull-out resistance of HSF effectively. Thus, the fiber blending effect of the strain capacity and energy absorption capacity was significantly increased at the high rate, and it showed the highest dynamic increase factor of the tensile strength, strain capacity and peak toughness. On the other hand, the incorporation of 1.5 vol.% SSF increases the number of fibers in the matrix and improves the pull-out resistance of HSF, resulting in the highest fiber blending effect of tensile strength and softening toughness. But as a low volume fraction of HSF which controlling macro crack, it was not effective for synergy of strain capacity and peak toughness.

An underwater structure is made to put with serious damage state by special environmental factors. If this damage phenomena persist, as for the structure, it is generated a structural serious problem because of the corrosion of a reinforcing bar and the loss of the concrete cut end. Repair work of an underwater structure is very harder than repair work in land, and it is actual that certification about a maintenance effect is uncertain. And the existing repair method is applied to a structure damaged with you without verification of a repair effect by a foreign reward and experience. In this study, a repair method about an underwater structure was proposed and observed a behavior characteristic and interface failure of an specimens. and comparison analyzed an effect of a proposed maintenance method.
In this study, the physical properties and fracture characteristics according to the tensile load are evaluated on the materials of the polymeric filler and carbon fiber-based composite sleeve technique. The polymeric filler and the composite sleeve technique are applied to areas where the pipe body thickness is reduced due to corrosion in large-diameter water pipes. First, the tensile strength of the polymeric filler was 161.48~240.43 kgf/cm2, and the tensile strength of the polyurea polymeric filler was relatively higher than that of the epoxy. However, the tensile strength of the polymeric filler is relatively very low compared to ductile cast iron pipes(4,300 kgf/cm2<) or steel pipes(4,100 kgf/cm2). Second, the tensile strength of glass fiber, which is mainly used in composite sleeves, is 3,887.0 kgf/cm2, and that of carbon fiber is up to 5,922.5 kgf/cm2. The tensile strengths of glass and carbon fiber are higher than ductile cast iron pipe or steel pipe. Third, when reinforcing the hemispherical simulated corrosion shape of the ductile cast iron pipe and the steel pipe with a polymeric filler, there was an effect of increasing the ultimate tensile load by 1.04 to 1.06 times, but the ultimate load was 37.7 to 53.7% compared to the ductile cast iron or steel specimen without corrosion damage. It was found that the effect on the reinforcement of the corrosion damaged part was insignificant. Fourth, the composite sleeve using carbon fiber showed an ultimate load of 1.10(0.61T, 1,821.0 kgf) and 1.02(0.60T, 2,290.7 kgf) times higher than the ductile cast iron pipe(1,657.83 kgf) and steel pipe(2,236.8 kgf), respectively. When using a composite sleeve such as fiber, the corrosion damage part of large-diameter water pipes can be reinforced with same level as the original pipe, and the supply stability can be secured through accident prevention.
One of the most popular pre-reinforcement methods of tunnel heading in cohesionless soils would be the fore-polling of grouted pipes, known as RPUM (reinforced protective umbrella method) or UAM (umbrella arch method). This technique allows safe excavation even in poor ground conditions by creating longitudinal arch parallel to the tunnel axis as the tunnel advances. Some previous studies on the reinforcing effects have been performed using numerical methods and/or laboratory-based small scale model tests. The complexity of boundary conditions imposes difficulties in representing the tunnelling procedure in laboratory tests and theoretical approaches. Full-scale study to identify reinforcing effects of the tunnel heading has rarely been carried out so far. In this study, a large scale model testing for a tunnel in granular soils was performed. Reinforcing patterns considered are four cases, Non-Reinforced, Crown-Reinforced, Crown & Face-Reinforced, and Face-Reinforced. The behavior of ground and pipes as reinforcing member were fully measured as the surcharge pressure applied. The influences of reinforcing pattern, pipe length, and face reinforcement were investigated in terms of stress and displacement. It is revealed that only the Face-Reinforced has decreased sufficiently both vertical settlement in tunnel heading and horizontal displacement on the face. Vertical stresses along the tunnel axis were concentrated in tunnel heading from the test results, so the heading should be reinforced before tunnel advancing. Most of maximum axial forces and bending moments for Crown-reinforced were measured at 0.75D from the face. Also it should be recommended that the minimum length of the pipe is more than l.0D for crown reinforcement.
FREP(Fiber Reinforced Epoxy Panel) are used for strengthening the damaged RC beams due to its good tensile strength, low weight, resistance to corrosion, and easy applicability. This study sets up structure equation for FREP bending reinforcement before and during the usage of RC beam. It finds the difference and finds the mechanical characteristics of rip-off failure that is caused by stress concentration in reinforcement material cutting part to estimate the performance of bending reinforcement. The result of this research can be summarized as two main consequences. The main failure of FREP reinforced concrete beam is rip-off failure and it evaluated rip-off failure of RC reinforcing bean based on the test and analytical conditions of this study. It found that stress was concentrated due to rapid change of bending rigidity in reinforced cutting part as a result of excessive reinforcement thickness of FREP. It resulted in rip-off failure. It means that it should evaluate the rip-off failure when designing reinforcement. It analyzed the reinforcement effect according to reinforced period for FREP. It found that reinforcement effect of P-Type that was reinforced during the usage decreased compared to I-Type that was reinforced before the usage. So when reinforcing a existing structure that is being used, it should consider the stress that is produced due to the fixed load.
Tire codes are made of materials such as hemp, cotton, rayon, nylon, steel, polyester, glass, and aramid are fiber reinforcement materials that go inside rubber to increase durability, driveability, and stability of vehicle tires. The reinforcement of the tire cord may construct a composite material using tires such as automobiles, trucks, aircraft, bicycles, and fibrous materials such as electric belts and hoses as reinforcement materials. Therefore, it is essential to ensure that the adhesive force between the rubber and the reinforced fiber exhibits the desired physical properties in the rubber composite material made of a rubber matrix with reinforced fibers. This study is a study on the heat treatment conditions for improving the adhesion strength of the tire cord and the reinforced fiber for tires. The core technology of the drying process is a uniform drying technology, which has a great influence on the quality of the reinforcement. Therefore, the uniform airflow distribution is determined by the geometry and operating conditions of the dryer. Therefore, this study carried out a numerical analysis of the shape of a drying nozzle for improving the performance of hot air drying in a dryer used for drying the coated reinforced fibers. In addition, the flow characteristics were examined through numerical analysis of the study on the change in the shape of the chamber affecting drying.
The present study experimentally and analytically investigates the effect of tensile reinforcement ratio and arrangement on the behavior of FRP strengthened reinforced concrete (RC) beams. The experimental part of the program was comprised of 8 RC beams that were tested under four-point bending. Results have shown that by keeping the total cross-section area of tensile reinforcing bars constant, in specimens with a low reinforcement ratio, increasing the number and decreasing the diameter of bars in the section lead to 21% and 29% increase in the load-carrying capacity of specimens made with normal and high compressive strength, respectively. In specimens with high reinforcement ratio, a different behavior was observed. Furthermore, the accuracy of the existing code provisions and analytical models in predicting the load-carrying capacity of the FRP strengthened beams failed by premature debonding mode were evaluated. Herein, a model is proposed which considers the tensile reinforcement ratio (as opposed to code provisions) to achieve more accurate results for calculating the load carrying capacity of FRP strengthened RC beams.

[ $SiO_2$ ] effect on the electrochemical properties of polymeric gel electrolytes(PGEs) reinforced with glass fiber cloth(GFC) was investigated . PGEs were composed of polyacrylronitrile(PAN), poly(vinylidenefluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (P(VdF-co-HFP)), $LiClO_4$ and three kind of plasticizer(ethylene carbonate, dietyl carbonate, propylene carbonate). $SiO_2$ was added to PGEs in the weight fraction of 10, 20, $30\%$ respectively. PGEs containing $SiO_2$ showed conductivity of over $10^{-3}S/cm\;at\;23^{\circ}C$ and electrochemical stability window to 4.8V. In the impedance spectra of the cells, which were constructed by lithium metals as electrodes, interfacial resistance increased due to growth of passivation layer during storage time and remarkable difference was not observed with content of $SiO_2$. In the impedance spectra of the lithium ion polymer batteries consisted of $LiClO_2$ and mesophase pitch-based carbon fiber(MCF), ohmic cell resistance of $SiO_2-free$ PGE was changed continuously with number of cycle, but those of $SiO_2-dispersed$ PGEs were not. Discharge capacity of the PGE containing $20wt\%\;SiO_2$ showed 132 mAh/g at 0.2C rate and $85\%$ of discharge capacity was retained at 2C rate.
Purpose: This study evaluated the effect of glass fiber pre-impregnated with light-curing resin on the fracture strength and fracture modes of a maxillary complete denture. Materials and methods: Maxillary acrylic resin complete dentures reinforced with glass fiber pre-impregnated with light-curing resin (SES MESH, INNO Dental Co., Yeoncheongun, Korea) and without reinforcement were tested. The reinforcing material was embedded in the denture base resin and placed different regions (Control, without reinforcement; Group A, center of anterior ridge; Group B, rugae area; Group C, center of palate; Group D, full coverage of denture base). The fracture strength and fracture modes of a maxillary complete denture were tested using Instron test machine (Instron Co., Canton, MA, USA) at a 5.0 mm/min crosshead speed. The flexure load was applied to center of denture with a 20 mm diameter ball attachment. When fracture occurred, the fracture mode was classified based on fracture lines. The data were analyzed with one-way ANOVA at the significance level of 0.05. Results: There were non-significant differences (P>.05) in the fracture strength among test groups. Group A showed anteroposterior fracture and posterior fracture mainly, group B, C and control group showed partial fracture on center area mostly. Most specimen of group D showed posterior fracture. Conclusion: The location and presence of the fiber reinforcement did not affect the fracture strength of maxillary complete denture. However, reinforcing acrylic resin denture with glass fiber has a tendency to suppress the crack.
