Applications of recently proposed closure approximations to injection molding filling simulation of short-fiber reinforced plastics

  • The present work is aimed at performing injection molding filling simulation of fiber suspension in polymer based matrix. The numerical simulation incorporates the coupling effect between the flow field and the fiber orientation state together with in-plane velocity gradient effect with recently proposed closure approximations. Predicted orientation components are compared with available experimental data of a film-gated strip and a center-gated disk. Predictions with IBOF closure approximation show excellent behaviors with regard to accuracy and numerical efficiency. However, predicted results seem to have consistent errors in comparison with experimental data. Diffusivity term which accounts for fiber-fiber interaction might have to be modified.

단섬유 보강 이방성 사출성형품의 휨 해석 (Warpage Analysis of Fiber Reinforced Injection Molded Parts)

  • A warpage analysis program has been developed for fiber-reinforced injection molded parts. The warpage is predicted from the residual stress and anisotropic thermo-mechanical properties coupled with fiber orientation in the integrated injection molding simulation. A simple elastic model is used for the calculation of thermally and pressure-induced residual stresses which are employed as the initial conditions in the structural analysis. To improve the reliability of warpage analysis, a new triangular flat shell element superimposing well-known efficient plate bending and membrane element is presented. The numerical examples address the necessity to use anisotropic models for fiber-reinforced materials and show that predicted warpage is in good agreement with experimentally measured one.

  • Recently, many researchers have performed R&D about strengthening of R/C with steel plates, carbon fiber sheets. aramid fiber sheets and glass fiber sheets, and so on. However most of research were limited in study of flexural strengthening of R/C beams. This paper shows the results of an experimental study on shear reinforcement of deep beams using Glass Fiber Sheet in relation to shear-span ratio. strengthening orientation and anchorage. The results prove that shear failure is governed by reinforced orientation. adherence and anchorage. Additional anchorage of fibers does not only cause the improvement in the internal resistance, but also control the brittle shear failure of specimen after reaching the maximum load.

  • The fiber orientation distribution and interface bonding in hot extrusion process have an effect on the maechanical properties of metal matrix composites(MMC's). Aluminium alloy matrix composites reinforced with alumina short fibers are fabricated by compocasting method. MMC's billets are extruded at high temperature through conical and curved shaped dies with various extrusion ratios and temperature. This present study was directed to describe the systematic correlation between extrusion die shape and subsequent results such as fiber breakage, fiber orientation and tensile strength to hot extruded MMC's billet. Extrusion load, tensile strength and hardness for variation of extrusion ratios and temperature are investigated to examine mechanical properties of extruded MMC's SEM fractographs of tensile specimens are observed to analyze the fracture mechanism.

  • 본 연구에서는 복합소재인 GFRP(Glass Fiber Reinforced Polyester)의 2차원 절삭공정에서 주파수 스팩트럼과 절삭 메커니즘과의 연관성에 관하여 논의한다. 해석방법으로는, 공정중 발생하는 절삭력 신호를 FFT에 의해 주파수 분석하고 주파수 스팩트럼과 다양한 칩형성 메커니즘과의 연관관계를 모델링한다. 특히, 섬유경사각(Fiber orientation angle), 절삭변수 그리고 공구형상이 절삭 메커니즘에 미치는 영향을 평가하였다.
