This study was undertaken to obtain more detailed knowledge of the oxygen consumption rate of chick embryos, of the relationship between the increasing rate of embryo weight and that of oxygen consumption, of the daily increase of oxygen consumption by that of embryo weight, and of the metabolic rate of the White Leghorn eggs. The results obtained are summarized as follows. 1. The average oxygen consumption rate of the chicken embryo at the 3rd day of incubation is 0.8ml/h, STPD. It is strongly suggested that this value can used as a physiological criterion to classify the fertilized and unfertilized eggs, on the other hand oxygen consumption rate of the fertilized eggs reaches a plateau between the 18th and 20th days. 2. There exists a parallel relationship between the increasing rate of embryo weight and that of oxygen consumption rate during the incubation period. 3. There are not exist a parallel relationship between the daily increase of embryo weight and that of oxygen consumption during the whole incubation period. 4. The metabolic rate of chicken embryo(ml/h/g) is highest in the early stage of incubation and it started to decrease sharply until the 8th day follow by slow decrease thereafter.

We collected and reared Theragra chalcogramma walleye pollock brood-stock for use in natural spawning tests and undertook to obtain domestic pollock via fertilized egg capture, development of fertilized eggs, and absorption of yolk sac after hatching. Whole pollock were caught with trammel and set nets and immediately placed in a deep-sea water tank. Adults were the most common pollock age group (43.0%; n = 86) among the 254 pollock captured in March 2014 with 57.9% (n = 147) being captured off Southern Gosung, Korea. The main spawning period of pollock is February (spawning phase of 91% of pollock). From the deep-sea tank, we collected 1640 mL of naturally fertilized eggs (~820,000 eggs) from 12 spawning events occurring between February 4 and 22 2015. The floating/ live eggs were maintained in deep-sea water tanks at $5.5{\pm}0.2^{\circ}C$. Egg size was $1.5{\pm}0.03mm$. Six hours after fertilization the eggs were at the 2 cell stage, and the eggs hatched approximately 340 hours after collection. At hatching, larval length and yolk sac area were $5.2{\pm}0.25mm$ and $9.5{\pm}1.00mm^2$ (100%), respectively. Four days after hatching, the yolk sac area was $2.2{\pm}0.53mm^2$ ($23.1{\pm}5.55%$). This is the first report of collection of naturally fertilized eggs from pollock and their subsequent hatching while held in an indoor deep-sea water tank. The results suggest that such collection could assist in the recovery of pollock resources and the possibility of domestic rearing of cultivated larvae.
The authors examined the Ascaris eggs on the surface of the strawberries and in the soil of the strawberry yards. The results were as follows: 1. The number of Ascaris eggs detected from 870 strawberries grown on strawberry yards was 26, of which 17 eggs were found to be alive. 2. The mean number of Ascaris eggs detected in every 10gm of the soil of strawberry yards was 10.3. The Ascaris eggs were detected over 93% from the yards examined, which had been fertilized with both chemical fertilizer and night soil, or night soil only. 3. No Ascaris eggs was found from strawberries which were produced only with chemical fertilizer. 4. Ascaris eggs were detected 6 from 705 marketing strawberries studied, 3 of them developed to larval stage. 5. when the strawberries were washed by shaking 20 times after kept immersed in water for 10 minutes, the recovery rates of Ascaris eggs after first, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th washing were 60, 87, 96, 99 and 100%, respectively. 6. Besides Ascaris eggs of hook worm and Fasciolidae were also found from the strawberries examined.

On 11 June 1991, eggs from the brood stock of small yellow croaker (Larimichthys polyactis) were artificially fertilized using the standard dry method and were hatched. Each of the fertilized eggs (1.1-1.2 mm in diameter) had an oil globule and was transparent and buoyant. The fertilized eggs hatched in a range of water temperatures $(17.5-20.3^{\circ}C)$ 44 hrs after fertilization. The total lengths of the newly hatched larvae were 3.1-3.3 mm, and these hatchlings had 31 myotomes (10+21). Melanophores and yellow-brown chromatophores were concentrated on the head, at the ventral part of the yolk, and in the middle of the tail. Four days after hatching, the larvae completely absorbed the yolk and became flexions of 5.1-5.5 mm in total length. Fifteen days after hatching, one spine (the anterior tip of the maxillary) appeared in the upper jaw and three spines developed at the upper parts of the eyes and on the posterior part of the head. At this stage, the larvae were approximately 8.3 mm long. Thirty-nine days after hatching, juveniles (1.9-3.4 mm in total length) had a pointed tail fin. By 66 days after hatching, the juvenile fish (about 4.0-6.5 mm in total length) were similar to adult fish in body shape. The larvae of L. polyactis could be distinguished from those of L. croacea by two distinct characteristics: the large number of vertebrae (28-29), and a relatively small bony ridge on the occipital region of the head.
Free radicals may attack cells or tissue, leading to chronic diseases, and antioxidant consumption is potentially useful for removing free radicals. Egg proteins may be used as potential sources of antioxidant considering their ability of scavenging free radicals to apply for food or cosmetics industry. In this study, we obtained a natural antioxidant protein from fertilized eggs, which was a dietary supplement in some Asian countries. Meanwhile, antioxidant activities of these proteins were evaluated using different oxidation systems. With increasing incubation time, the antioxidant activity of these proteins increased during 15 d of incubation. The samples on day 15 were performed for isolation of antioxidant protein. The protein, named P4-1 (MW, 45 kDa), was isolated and purified by consecutive chromatographic methods. P4-1 contained 17 amino acids, which was determined by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry and Amino Acid Analyzer. Moreover, the amino acid sequence was highly similar to that of ovalbumin. Differential scanning calorimetry showed that the denaturation temperature of P4-1 was $57.16^{\circ}C$. Furthermore, P4-1 suggested high oxygen radical-absorbance activity in ${\cdot}OH$ assays, and its antioxidant activity was stable at $30-50^{\circ}C$ in acidic and neutral pH. Thus, these results revealed that P4-1 may be a potential resource as a natural antioxidant.

The development of swift's scallop Chlamys swiftii, reared in the laboratory, has been examined through the investigation of morphological characteristics in fertilized egg, larvae and juvenile. Eggs were fertilized with a dilute sperm solution to improve the survival of fertilized eggs. Developing larvae were maintained at a temperature of $16{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$ and salinity concentration of 33 ppt. We have investigated the fertilization rates and egg number spawned at several stimulating conditions such as sunlight exposure, air dry, seawater temperature rise ($5^{\circ}C$) and seawater temperature rise ($5^{\circ}C$) after exposure of air dry for spawning induction of swift's scallop Chamys swiftii. Stimulation treated with sunlight exposure and seawater temperature rise ($5^{\circ}C$) have shown the spawning number of 700,000-900,000 and 700,000-800,000 per individual, respectively while stimulation treated with seawater temperature rise ($5^{\circ}C$) after exposure of air dry have shown the high spawning number of 1,000,000-1,500,000 per individual. Survival rate of D-shaped larvae of swift's scallop put into the different seawater temperatures of $8^{\circ}C$, $12^{\circ}C$, $16^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$ and $24^{\circ}C$ has been 4.1%, 11.6%, 32.7%, 18.6% and 3.2%, respectively. Fertilized eggs with the diameter of $72{\mu}m$ developed into trochophore larvae of $103{\pm}3.8{\mu}m$ shortly after 35 hours and to D larvae of $129{\pm}10.4{\mu}m$ shell length within 72 hours. It took 336 hours to become initial Umbo-stage larva of $145{\pm}16.8{\mu}m$ shell length. Post larvae, which have been $197{\pm}13.6{\mu}m$ shell length, spontaneously have settled in the attachment substances. It have required 528 hours from fertilized eggs to early attached juvenile to become initial juvenile size of $245{\pm}15.8{\mu}m$ shell length.

This study examined the irradiation effect of high energy x-rays on the hatching process of fertilized eggs, particularly with regard to malformation and blood cells change. The experimental groups were five day old fertilized eggs irradiated with x rays at doses of 5, 7.5, 10 Gyusing alinear accelerator. The control group was not irradiated. After three weeks, hatched chicks were sacrificed and examined for blood sampling. The survival rate of the x-ray irradiated groups were significantly lower than that of the control group (46.7vs 80%). The malformation rate of the experimental groups was60%, whereas no congenital malformations were observed in the control group. The experimental groups had a significantly higher malformation rate. The types of malformation were left wing defect, proptosis, microcephaly, cervical spine, and feet anomaly. The incidence of malformation increased with increasing radiation dose. The white blood cell count of control group and eachexperimental groups (5 and 7.5 Gy) were 87.64, 100.76 and 81.42 ($10^3/{\mu}L$), respectively. X-ray irradiation of 5 day old chick embryos increased the rate of death and malformation significantly. The malformations were estimated to have occurred by chromosomal abnormalities. Further genetic studies will be needed to confirm the correlation between high energy X-rays and the cause of malformations.
The structures of the fertilized egg envelope in three species of cichlidae, golden severum (Cichlasoma severum var.), convic cichlid (Cichlasoma nigrofasciatum) and discus (Symphysodon aequifasciatus) were investigated by routine light and electron microscopies. The fertilized eggs of all three species were of the non-transparent, ellipsoidal, adhesive and non-floted type. The egg envelopes have a single micropyle, which is thought to the pathway of sperm in the area of the animal pole. In golden severum, an outer surface of egg envelope was covered by a reticular layer, that of convic cichlid was covered by an amorphous reticular layer and that of discus was covered by a branched reticular layer. The fertilized egg envelopes consisted of two distinct layers, an adhesive outer layer and an inner layer, consisted of lamellae alternating with interlamellae of lower electron density, in all three species; an inner layer of golden severum was $15\sim17$ layers, that of convic cichlid was $14\sim16$ layers, and that of discus was $18\sim19$ layers.
The author studied on the eggs laying order of silkworm eggs which was laid by double copulation. The results can be summarized as follows; 1. Fertilized eggs were not laid in order like the copulating order. Author supposes that the sperms of the first copulated moth and second's moth were mixed in the receptaculum seminis. 2. Intensity of fertilization was mainly affected by silkworm races and copulating order, but some other factors may be acted on the double copulation.
