Purpose: This study was conducted to find ways to improve foodservice quality and satisfaction of middle school students in school lunch service. Recognition of concerns about school lunch and quality attributes was evaluated by gender. And we tried to investigate quality attributes which could affect degree of foodservice satisfaction by gender. Methods: Two hundred students from each of 6 middle schools (3 schools in urban and 3 schools in rural) in Gyeonggi Province were surveyed using self-developed questionnaires. Total of 1,103 questionnaires (male 556 and female 547) were collected and data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, t-test, cross table and stepwise multiple regression by SPSS 11.0. Results: There were not significant differences in average importance scores (male 4.09, female 4.06) and average performance scores (male 3.36, female 3.30) of quality attributes between middle school boys and girls. But there were significant differences in 7 and 6 of 25 quality attributes in evaluating importance and performance respectively by gender. There was not a significant difference (male 3.13, female 3.24) in degree of foodservice satisfaction by gender. But there were significant differences in the distribution of satisfaction. Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that degree of satisfaction was influenced by a taste of food, quick complaint handling, providing favorite foods, and food hygiene in male students (F=$51.1^{***}$, adjusted $R^2$=.265). Degree of satisfaction was influenced by a taste of food, providing favorite food, proper meal prices, providing a wide variety of food in female students (F=$91.4^{***}$, adjusted $R^2$=.399). Conclusion: We found out that there were significant differences in quality attributes when evaluating importance and performance and in quality attributes which could affect foodservice satisfaction by gender.
On the general trends of weight control for slimness, this study surveyed and compared eating attitude influenced by eating disorder, eating habits, and nutrition knowledge by obesity index in middle school girls. The purpose of this study was to investigate the eating disorders and eating habits, and analyzed these data by degree of obesity. This will provide basic information of nutrition education for adolescents who need to have proper body shape and dieting habits. This survey was conducted to one of girls' middle school in Incheon and all the data was analysed by SAS(Statistical Analysis System) program. The average height, weight and PIBW were 158.7cm, 48.2kg, and 93.9% in students. However, 50.8% of students were underweight or severely underweight. Most of female students perceived that they were normal or overweight even though they had underweight or normal. There was a significant difference in experience and intention of weight control by degree of obesity. In the overweight group, EAT-26 score tendency was high, especially preoccupation with losing weight(factor 1). It shows that obesity index had meaningful correlation with EAT-26 score and factor1. In dietary habit, overweight group showed more irregular meals tendency, and overeat frequently. On the other hand, this group had lower frequency and of smaller amount snacks. The intake frequency of meals and snacks showed in the affirmative way regardless of degree of obesity. The average score for nutrition knowledge about calorie and weight control was low. Correct answer rates were increased in higher overweight group. In conclusion, teenage girls who concerned too much about their slim body image need to be educated about accuracy concept of the body image. Also, practical and systematic nutrition education should be done for the correct nutrition knowledge and its application ability of individuals.
This study was to investigate the appearance orientation and body shape management of adolescents in Daejeon. A survey was performed from December 16th~28th 2015 and 355 respondents were collected for analysis. 45.9% of the subjects were middle school students, whereas 54.1% of them were high school ones. The female and high school students tended to show higher ratings in lookism tendency and interests in beauty care, whereas male and middle school students tended to show higher ratings in physical satisfaction than the others. More than 40% of the respondents perceived them fatter than the standard weight, in particular, girls and the ones with opposite-sex friend perceived them fatter than their actual conditions. On body shape satisfaction, female and high school students indicated lower satisfaction. For body shape management, 75% of the female and 40% of the male students had tried weight control. The frequency and the duration time of exercise had higher for boys than girls, and the ones with opposite-sex friend than without. For methods of weight control, girls were more likely to do diet control, whereas boys were more committed to exercise. In general, students with high appearance orientation tended to control taking snacks and fast food or did diet control for body shape management. Conclusively, continued interest and guidance, not only at home but also in school, is required for students so that they can do proper body shape management to fulfill their appearance orientation and they will improve academic performance by gaining confidence through their appearance satisfaction.

Purpose: This study was aimed to identify factors related with depression among boys and girls in Korean middle school adolescents. Methods: This study used the data from the 2007 annual survey of youth health behaviors conducted by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention between the period of 2007/9/1 and 2007/9/22 (with the extension of 2007/10/1 and 2007/11/3). The target number of this study was 21,047 male and 18,424 female students all in the age group of middle school 1st grade and 3rd grade. Results: Depression of middle school adolescents was 33.4% for male students, 43.8% for female students, 38.3% in overall. With regard to the relationship between the demographic characteristics and the health behavior, both male and female students felt more depressed when they had more stress, followed by the cases with stimulant intakes and chronic diseases. For male students, higher level of physical activity was associated with greater level of the depression. For female students, living with only one parent or other person seem to cause more depression. Conclusion: Depression of middle school adolescents requires a special attention from the family, the school and society in general to find out and eliminate the root of these symptoms.
This study was conducted on adolescent high school girls who were most interested in their appearance to examine the makeup and cosmetics use of high school girls and to present their correct pre-made cosmetics use training materials. This survey was conducted after the modification and supplementation of the questionnaire. Most high school girls in adolescence begin to wear makeup out of curiosity at the age of 16-17, when they are in their third year of middle school and first year of high school. In other words, high school girls in adolescence begin to wear makeup as the effects of puberty lead to rapid physical development and physical change, and the desire to get attention from reason and others rapidly increase. It can be seen that high school girls who are interested in makeup actively manage their personal appearance as they explore the Internet, TV and other media outlets, copy female celebrities of their own age who appear in the media, and make them look strange.

This study was based on social comparison theory, and the covariance structure model was designed, connecting sociocultural attitude, multifaceted body image, and clothing behaviour under sociocultural influence. The practical purpose of this study is to identify the effect of sociocultural attitude toward physical appearance on the affective aspect of body images, the cognitive/behavioral aspect of body images and clothing benefits sought, and to examine the age difference in the female adolescents. The results of this were as follows: 1) Sociocultural attitude toward physical appearance had a negative effect directly on the affective aspect of body images, and showed the highest value in the group of high school girls 2) Sociocultural attitude toward physical appearance had a positive influence directly on the cognitive/behavioral aspect of body images, and high school girls'model showed the highest values significantly as well 3) High school girls'model showed the highest value significantly in the effect of the affective aspect of body images on the cognitive/behavioral aspect of body images. However, college group's model didn's show significant value 4) Middle school girls'model showed higher value positively than the other groups in the effect of the cognitive/behavioral aspect of body images on clothing benefits sought, and the high school girls' model showed higher value negatively in the effect of the affective aspect of body images on clothing benefits sought.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare sociocultural attitudes toward appearance, appearance satisfaction, and peer relationships between male and female middle school students, and to compare the effects of these variables on self-esteem in students of different genders. Methods: Data were collected in August and September of 2023 and analyzed using SPSS 24.0. Data were collected from 289 male and 240 female students through a survey, and descriptive statistics, x2 test, t-test, Scheffé test, and multiple regression analysis were conducted. Results: Female students showed significantly higher scores for sociocultural attitudes toward appearance (3.06±0.77 vs. 2.82±0.74), significantly lower scores for appearance satisfaction (2.55±0.46 vs. 2.71±0.40), and significantly higher scores for peer relationships (3.46±0.69 vs. 3.00±0.78) than male students. Additionally, self-esteem was significantly lower in female students (2.84±0.59) than in male students (2.95±0.51). As a result of adjusting for weekly allowance, subjective academic achievement, family economic status, stress, and experience of sadness or despair, which were significant in the univariate analysis, self-esteem increased as appearance satisfaction (p for all <.001) and peer relationships increased in both male (p=.009) and female (p<.001) students. In addition, sociocultural attitudes toward appearance did not have a significant impact on self-esteem in both male and female students. Among general characteristics, weekly allowance, subjective academic achievement, and stress were found to have a significant effect on self-esteem in both genders. Relationships with parents had a significant effect on self-esteem only in male students, and experience of sadness or despair had a significant effect only in female students. Conclusion: In order to improve self-esteem in both boys and girls, appearance satisfaction and peer relationships should be improved. As boys with poor relationships with their parents and girls with high levels of sadness or despair are particularly likely to have low self-esteem, they are to be considered as a high-risk group.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of female adolescents' rejection sensitivity, impulsivity and guilt on their binge eating behavior. Questionnaires on rejection sensitivity, impulsivity, guilt and binge eating behavior were administered to 607 female adolescents in Changwon and Ulsan. Of 572 collected copies, 402 were deemed valid and statistically analyzed through frequency analysis, mean and standard deviation, t-test, Pearson's correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis and stepwise multiple regression analysis using SPSS Win 12.0. The results of the study were as follows: 1) School type was found to make a significant difference in rejection sensitivity, overall impulsivity, guilt and binge eating behavior; however, its influence was not significant on the sub-factors of impulsivity: motor impulsivity, unplanned impulsivity and cognitive impulsivity. 2) For female middle school students, rejection anger sensitivity, rejection depression sensitivity and motor impulsivity were found to have a significant influence on binge eating behavior for both middle school and high school girls. Guilt, however, was found to be influential for female high school students only. 3) Impulsivity was found to have a partial mediating effect on the relationship between female adolescents' rejection sensitivity and binge eating behavior.
This study was conducted to investigate the nutrient intake, dietary and weight control behaviors and iron deficiency of adolescent girls. The subjects were 216 female middle school students living in urban and rural areas of Inchon. Thin cross- sectional study was conducted by questionnaires and data were analyze by SAS program. Nutrient intakes collected from 3 day-recalls were analyzed by the Computer Aided Nutritional Analysis Program(CAN-pro). The mean height, weight. BMI and obesity index for the subjects were 158.2 cm, 51.1kg, 20.4 and -5.3 % in urban students and 155.9 cm, 49.3 kg 21.1 and -8.2% in rural students, respectively. Easting blood samples were obtained and analyzed for iron nutritional status. The mean obesity index of the urban students was higher than that of the rural students. The proportion of the overweight group was higher in urban students compared to rural students, However, over 10% of both area students belonged to the low weight group, respectively. Most students of both areas skipped breakfast and the main reason was on appetite and lack of time. Urban students were more concerned with body image. The nutrients which showed a lower mean intake as percentile of RDA were Ca, iron, vit A an Vit B$_2$ and most nutrient intakes of urban students were significantly higher compared to those of rural students. These results indicate that nutrient intakes in the female middle school students were considerably lower than the RDA. Also they had undesirable food habits and lower self-satisfaction with their body image, There were significant differences in the mean MCV, TIBC and serum ferritin between urban and rural area subjects. Mean Hb, Hct, MCH, MCHC and TS, bowaver, were not significantly different. Prevalence of iron deficiency greatly varied by indices from urban(11.5%) and rural (8.7%) when judged by Hb to urban(23.1) and rural (23.3%) by serum ferrition. Therefore, proper nutrition education is required for good nutrition desirable food habits, weight control, and guidance for iron deficiency in anemic female of adolescents.
The purpose of this study was to classify female students' somatotypes, to investigate the relationship between five somatotypes obtained from anthropometric measurements and to examine the relationship between the spinal deformity and somatotypes. The subjects for anthropometric measurements were 844 female middle and high school students. The data were analyzed by cluster analysis, correspondence analysis, Duncan test, and T-test. The results were as follows. Cluster analysis on the factors extracted from directly measured items classified subjects into five types (middle height and a little slim type (39.6%), low height and a little slim type (13.1%), middle height and a little fat type (18.0%), tall and very fat type (7.7%), and very tall and standard type (21.6%). In examining the relationship between the normal people and those of the spinal deformity, the normal showed higher mean value in almost all the items of the girth, the depth, and the length. High school students had more spinal deformity in number than middle school students. The degree of deformity was higher in the right spinal deformity than in the left spinal deformity as the age increased. In terms of the distribution of the spinal deformity classified by the somatotype, Type 1 (middle height and a little slim type) and Type 5 (very tall and standard type) appeared the highest.
