The purpose of this study is to provide information for the manufacturer of shoes. The data was collected through a questionnaire on purchasing practices, wearing state and overall satisfaction with shoes for high school students. The questionnaire survey was conducted on 598 high school students(49.2% male students, 50.8% female students) in the Cheongju area. Statistical tests such as frequencies, percentages, and crosstabs were conducted to analyze the data. The results were as follows: 1) The main reasons for buying new shoes were replacing worn out shoes or color and design coordination with other apparel. 2) Male students bought shoes generally from shoe stores and sports brand retailers, but female students bought mainly from shoe stores. The order of criteria considered for purchasing was design, size, price, color, style coordination and comfort. 3) While attending school, male students geneially wore sports shoes, but female students wore sports shoes and dress shoes by similar ratio. 4) The male students used primarily ordinary sports shoes and casual shoes secondarily, and for female students, primarily ordinary sports shoes and sneakers secondarily. 5) They were satisfied with shoe design and color but quality of the material and durability were unsatisfactory. 6) When they wore shoes for long hours, they experienced fatigue of the whole leg and general discomfort, blisters on the feet, and red skin.
This Study was carried out to investigate dietary life and recognition of diet related factors in elemantary, middle and high school students. This study was
surveyed by questionnaires and data were analyzed by SPSS program. Comparative analysis was conducted according to three school student groups(elementary childrens, middle school students, high school students). The subjects were 1,886 school students(female 893, male 959) of 51 schools in nationalwide region. The Distribution of subjects was elementary school childrens 544, middle school students 661 and high school students 681. The results are summarized as follows.
Only Sixty percent of the subjects had breakfast regularly. About one forth of the subjects had the habit of skipping breakfast or eating 2-3 times per week. Pricipal reasons of skipping breakfast were 'busy'(50.7%) and 'not delicious or poor appetite'(31.0%). Regularity of having breakfast and reasions of skipping breakfast were significant differences according to school student groups(p<0.001 respectively). About half of the subjects didn't have sufficient amounts in breakfast. Most subjects(92.1%) had lunch regularly by virtue of school lunch service. One forth of the subjects had dinner irregularly. Pricipal reasons of skipping dinner were 'not delicious'(41.7%), 'busy'(15.1%) and 'weight loss'(14.3%). Regularity of having dinner and reasons of skipping dinner were significant differences according to school student groups(p<0.01, p<0.001 respectively). The most delicious meal was dinner in 56.7% of the subjects and lunch in 37.1% of the subjects. There was significant difference in recognition of most delicious meal according to school student groups(p<0.001). Only ten percent of the subjects thought that nutrition education was not needed. Diettitian was recognized as nutrition educator in sixty percent of the subjects. Only 5 percent of the subject recognized teacher as nutrition educator. There were not significant differences in most delicious meal and nutrition educator according to operation type of school lunch service. The findings suggested continuous attention and guidance for healthy dietary life and necessity of nutrition education for both school students and their parents.
This study analyzes the foot shape of female high school students using 3D foot scan data based on a comparison with adult women (20s'-30s'). Data were collected from the foot anthropometry of 199 female high school students in Gwangju and Jeollanam-do. The right foot was measured indirectly by 3D laser scanner. There are 16 items in the foot anthropometric measurements. The $6^{th}$ Size Korea (measured by 3D scan data) is used for women's foot data. The results of the 3D measurements data investigation show that the foot length and foot width became longer and wider as the age increased. It is classified by three types after analyzing foot shape. Type 1 (28.1%) represented the shortest foot length, the narrowest foot width as well as the thick foot and long ankle shape. Type 2 (4.3%) represented the wide foot width such as the wide lateral ball width and semi-thickness shape. Type 3 (67.7%) referred to the widest foot width, flat foot and short ankle shape.
Purpose: Maintaining a lifelong health is very important. The purpose of this study is to know the perception of youth about health teacher's servant leadership, student's self-efficacy, and health promoting behavior, and the relationship among the variables. Methods: This study used surveys of health teacher's servant leadership, student's self-efficacy, and health promotion behaviors. The subjects were 1,286 elementary, middle and high school students. PASW Statistics 18.0 was used in the data analysis. Percentage, mean and standard deviation, t-test, and ANOVA test were used to compare the difference of the health teacher's servant leadership, student's self-efficacy, and health promotion behavior according to the background variables of the subject. Results: There was a statistically significant difference in the perception of youth about health teacher's servant leadership, student's self-efficacy, and health promotion behaviors according to school level, establishment type, and grade. There was also a statistically significant difference in the perception of youth about student's self-efficacy and health promotion behaviors between male and female student. In addition, student's self-efficacy serves as a positive mediator to the effects of health teacher's servant leadership on student's health promoting behavior. Conclusion: Based on these results, it needs to implement the human resources and policy support for the systematic health education of elementary, middle, and high schools, the development of the program for the teacher's servant leadership, and the health promotion of students in curriculum.
This study analyzed Kimchi eating culture in 178 households with female middle school children located in Incheon and Seosan areas, investigated the Kimchi eating patterns of female middle school students, and also analyzed the differences in value recognition for Kimchi between mothers and their female middle school students. Results showed that 23.0% of subject households answered eat Kimchi at every meal and the main reason for eating Kimchi in most households was good for taste. Most households made their own Kimchi, and only 12.3% of households bought Kimchi. Subject households preferred hot and spicy taste (34.8%) and pleasing taste (20.2%), and 44.4% of middle school children answered as eating Kimchi at every meal, and the source for information on Kimchi was home in 51.6% and mass media in 33.7%, suggesting the lack of school education. Both mothers and their female middle school students placed high value on Kimchi for its nutritional aspect and on Kimchi from the market for its convenience. Mothers showed significantly higher value (p<0.05) on the storage aspect of Kimchi compared to their middle school students, and female middle school students showed significantly higher value (p<0.05) on the value recognition for Kimchi as an international food compared to their mothers. Also, the value for hot pepper powder was high among other additional ingredients, and both mothers and middle school students had high values for Kimchi stew among other food dishes using Kimchi, and middle school students showed higher values (p<0.001) on foreign dishes using Kimchi such as Kimchi pizza and Kimchi spaghetti compared to the mothers group. Therefore, based on these results, the development of educational programs on Kimchi is needed not only at home but also at schools, by re-emphasizing the importance of value recognition for Klmchi in our food culture.
This study classified the type of sole for female high school students and analyzed the characteristics of each type by the shape of the sole (plantar view) using 2D scan data. The data were collected from a foot anthropometry of 310 female high school students in Gwangju and Jeollanam-do. Left feet and right feet were measured indirectly by using flatbed scanner. The sole anthropometric measurements consisted of 24 items. The results of the investigation into the differences between left and right feet soles by the 2D measurements data indicated that there was no significant statistical differences in the length of items. The left sole had higher values than right sole in the width items and angle items; however, the lateral side of the right feet projected to the outside more often than left feet. In analyzing foot sole of female high school students, the shapes of sole were classified into three types. Type 1(41.94%), Type 2(36.77%), Type 3(21.29%). The most characteristic sole type for female high school students was Type 1. Type 1 referred to a narrow foot width with little or no curvature of the toe. Type 2 represented the longest foot, with foot width shown as a spacious and distinctive feature in width at the medial area of the foot. Type 3 represented the shortest and widest of ball width, gathered inside toe 5, and lateral side as the most projected among the three types.
Objectives : The Purpose of this study is to apply an oral health education program to the high school students, to analyze their oral health knowledge and changes of behaviors, and to examine oral health education for effective, thus using all of those results as the basic data for developing materials on their oral health education. Methods : The study was conducted on the freshmen and women of M high student in Seoul City. They were in total 85 student, consisting of 77 of male student(90.6%) and 8 of female student(9.4%). Knowledge survey contained 38 questions including such as dental common knowledge, dental caries, and periodontal disease, while behaviors survey did 24 questions including such as tooth-brushing, brush selection and management, and prevention of oral disease. Results : First, oral health education had brought to improve oral health knowledge for high school students. Second, even with the improvement of oral health behaviors through the education, there was not statistically significant on behaviors such as the regular checkups and the usage of dental floss. And third, the students in general were satisfied with the oral health education. Conclusions : First, the oral health education being conducted in kindergarten and elementary school should be continued or expanded into the adolescence. Second, the oral health education should be focused efficiently on the learning objective demanding for a change of behavior through the repeated education, for which the education that is right for the high school students should be done. And third, for the effective oral health education in high school, the media that could cause interests should be developed.
Purpose: Adolescent obesity is a growing problem. This study examined the relationships between different types of physical activity and obesity in male and female middle and high school students. Methods: This study used the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data of 2007. The study included 282 male and female middle and high school students who completed health survey questionnaires regarding physical activity. Physical activity was measured with vigorous and moderate activity and walking. BMI was used as an obesity indicator. Analyses were done using descriptive statistics, ANOVA, and chi-square test. In addition, multiple logistic regression were conducted to investigate the relationship between physical activity and obesity when adjusting for covariates. SAS/WIN 9.1 was used. Results: Boys spent more days in vigorous and moderate physical activity than girls (p for vigorous activity: <.001, for moderate activity: <.001). There was no significant difference in walking activity between boys and girls and between middle and high school students. Only days spent in vigorous activity was significantly higher in middle school student compared with high school students (p=.013). According to the relationship between physical activity and obesity, moderate physical activity was significantly related to BMI for high school boys (p=.041). However, when adjusting for age, sex, school, parental income, daily caloric intake, physical activity was not significantly related to obesity. Conclusions: The results showed that male and female middle and high school students spent not enough days in doing low moderate and vigorous physical activity. Thus, this strengthens the need to increase physical activity level in these populations. In spite of non-significant relationship between physical activity and obesity from multivariate analysis, increasing moderate physical activity for high school boy could be effective to prevent and manage obesity, since significant difference between moderate activity and obesity in this population.
The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of a practical problem-based instruction(PPBHEI) perceived by female and male high school students. One Group post-test only design was used in this quasiexperimental study. The experimental group of the study was 101(67 male and 34 female) second grade students of a high school in Kyung Kee Area. The Practical Problem-Based Home Economics Instruction had been conducted to the group during the 14th weeks of 1997 spring semester. Post-test including the two parts was conducted at the end of the semester. The instrument of the study was developed and used, based on the previous literature after testing validity and reliability by the researcher. The questionnaire was composed of open-ended question. The data of this study were analyzed by content analysis. The results were as follows: 1)both female and male respondents indicated PPBHEI helped to improve their friendships(93.1%), expression skills(69.3%), their thinking ability(82.1%), and problem soiving skills(76.2%); 2)both female and male respondents indicated that problems of PPBHEI were that a few students didn't like joining the class and classroom space was too small; and 3)half of students(52.3%) perceived the Practical Problem-Based Home Economics Instruction related to student achievement.
Even though 35% of Korean medical students are female, medical schools and hospitals maintain a strongly male-dominated culture which discourages female students from active career development. In 2006, Yonsei Medical school instigated an elective course entitled "Women in Medicine" to encourage and stimulate 51 female students who enrolled the course. Researchers conducted participant observations at all 6 lectures, as well as 2 surveys and 4 student fucus group discussions comprising a total of 18 students. The total satis faction r ate of the course was high at 4.6 points out of a 5-point score Nevertheless, the study results confirmed three conflict points between lectures and students. Firstly, the lecturers emphasized the excellence and carrier-goal oriented life style, whereas most students are more interested in an ordinary women doctor's life. Secondly, the lecturers emphasized the importance of husband and family's support for success in their career but most female students have little confidence in their ability to achieve a balance between work and family. Thirdly, the lecturers emphasized the women doctor who is able to lead a team effectively, but women students have few opportunities to play a leadership role in their school life. These study findings imply that there is a generation gap in the concept of "successful women doctor's life" between lecturers and students. and that interactive dialogue between lecturer and students is more important than lecture style presentations from extremely successful female doctors. In addition to such lectures, a leadership program based on active student participation should be developed.
