It is important to classily fault types, discriminate fault section and calculate the fault location by any detecting technique for combined transmission lines. This paper proposes the technique to classily the fault types and fault section using neuro-fuzzy systems. Neuro-fuzzy systems are composed of three parts to perform different works. First, neuro-fuzzy system for fault type classification is performed with approximation coefficient of currents obtained by wavelet transform. The second neuro-fuzzy system discriminates the fault section between overhead and underground with detail coefficients of voltage and current. The last neuro-fuzzy system calculates the fault location with impedance in this paper, neuro-furry system shows the excellent results for classification of fault types and discrimination of fault section.

A novel fault diagnosis method based on likelihood decomposition is proposed for linear stochastic systems described by autoregressive (AR) model. Assuming that at some time instant .tau. the fault of one of the following two types is occurs: innovation fault (actuator fault); and observation fault (sensor fault), the log-likelihood function is decomposed into two components based on the observations before and after .tau., respectively, Then, the type of the fault is determined by comparing the log-likelihoods corresponding two types of faults. Numerical examples demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed diagnosis method.
In this paper, we will treat the diagnosis problem to accurately determine fault types. The judgement of fault types is accomplished by observing the cluster newly formed with faults and clustering the input current waveforms to intrinsically show the conditions with the dignet that is a clustering algorithm. The types of input current waveforms are, however, constrained during normal operation, though it considers the load character. In case of faults. new clusters are generated outside the clusters. which appear during normal operation, because the input current waveforms of the induction motor are generated by the type which is not observed in case of faults. The diagnosis about the types of faults is essential to building a fault tree about the induction motor, and it removes the causes of the faults using a fuzzy logic. We, first, constitute a fault tree, which connects with the parts and the entire system of the induction motor, and investigate fault modes which can be generated from the fault tree and the relationship of the cause and the effect of each part (of the motor). Also, we distinguish the faults of each part by means of inducing the said of fuzzy relation equations encapsulating the relationship of the fault modes and each part.
A new trigonometrical method for calculating total slip (T) of faulting is presented. The parameters for the calculations are used rake of fault striation, strike and dip of fault and of index planar structure such as bedding plane. The faults are groupped into three types. The direction of plunging of fault striation is out of a range ${\pm}90^{\circ}$ to the bedding dip direction in $360^{\circ}$ system, which is groupped into the type I. Meanwhile, the case of the direction lies in the above range can be separated into two different types, type II and type III, according to relative largeness of the angles rake of fault striation and i (see text). The type II has smaller rake than angle i and the type III has larger rake than angle i. Here I propose a few equations for calculating not only total slip (T) but strike slip (L) or dip slip (S) of the faulting. The equations are adapted selectively to the types of fault mentioned before. The limitation of the method is that the equations do not fit to polyphase faulting.

Quaternary faults found around the Ulsan Fault System can be divided into 4 types based on the fault outcrop features : Type I fault cuts basements and Quaternary deposits of which remain on both hangwall and footwall. Type II fault is developed only in Quaternary deposit. Type III fault has inclined unconformity after Quaternary faulting. Type IV fault is common type around the Ulsan fault system and has horizontal unconformity surface after cutting earlier Quaternary deposit. After erosion, later Quaternary deposit overlays on both old deposit and basement. The Ulsan Fault System consists of three segments at large scale from north to south based on the lineament rank and shape, Quaternary fault location, and slip rate. The segment boundaries are identified by the existence of the two intervals which show no lineaments and Quaternary faults. But, if detail fault parameters could be obtained and used in segmentation, it can be divided into more than three segments.
The fault current limiting characteristics of the separated and the integrated three-phase flux-lock type superconducting fault current limiters (SFCLs) were analyzed. The three-phase flux-lock type SFCL consisted of three flux-lock reactors and three $high-T_c$ superconducting (HTSC) elements. In the integrated three-phase flux-lock type SFCL, three flux-lock reactors are connected on the same iron core. On the other hand, three flux-lock reactors of the separated three-phase flux-lock type SFCL are connected on three separated iron cores. The integrated three-phase flux-lock type SFCL showed the different fault current limiting characteristics from the separated three-phase flux-lock type SFCL that the fault phase could affect the sound phase, which resulted in quench of the HTSC element in the sound phase. Through the computer simulation applying numerical analysis for its three-phase equivalent circuit, the fault current limiting characteristics of the separated and the integrated three-phase flux-lock type SFCLs according to the ground fault types were compared.

This paper presents the rapid and accurate algorithm for fault detection and location estimation in the transmission line. This algorithm uses wavelet transform for fault detection and harmonics elimination and utilizes least square error method for fault impedance estimation. Wavelet transform decomposes fault signals into high frequence component Dl and low frequence component A3. The former is used for fault phase detection and fault types classification and the latter is used for harmonics elimination. After fault detection, an adaptive data window technique using LSE estimates fault impedance. It can find a optimal data window length and estimate fault impedance rapidly, because it changes the length according to the fault disturbance. To prove the performance of the algorithm, the authors test relaying signals obtained from EMTP simulation. Test results show that the proposed algorithm estimates fault location within a half cycle after fault irrelevant to fault types and various fault conditions.
It is important to catch or classify fault types by any detecting technique for distribution protection. This paper proposes the technique to classify the fault types using wavelet transform in radial distribution line. Modeling of the radial distribution line is simulated using PSCAD/EMTDC and wavelet transform is performed in the Matlab program.

A Knowledge based expert system is a computer program that emulates the reasoning process of a human expert in a specific problem domain. Expert system has the potential to solve a wide range of problems which require knowledge about the problem rather than a purely analytical approach. This papaer presents the application of knowledge based expert system to power system fault diagnosis. The contents of expert system develpped in this paper is judgement of fault section from a given alarm sets and production of all possible hypothesis for the single fault. Both relay failures and circuit breaker failures are considered simultaneously. Although many types of relay are used in actual system, experts recognize ones as several typical signals corresponding to the fault types. Therefore relays are classified into several types. The expert system is written in an artificial intelligence language "PROLOG" . Best-first search method is used for problem solving. Both forward chaining and backward chaining schemes are used in reasoning process. The application to a part of actual power system proves the availability of the developed expert system.
