This paper shows characteristics of fault current division factor $S_f$, which is a ratio of earth- return current to total fault current, at a substation fed exclusively by power cables under unsymmetrical fault condition, such as single line-to-ground fault. In substation grounding system design, $S_f$ is a very important factor determining GPR, touch and step voltage at a substation under fault condition. In case of substations fed by overhead lines, 40-60% of $S_f$ has been typically used, although it is a very conservative value with no other network conditions considered. It is authors' hope that $S_f$ presented in this paper could hopefully be a basic reference in designing of substation grounding system, especially for a substation fed exclusively by power cables.

High quality power supplying of high voltage distribution lines electric railway system is the important function, high voltage distribution system is complicated witch is compose with distribution line, circuit break, protection facilities and so on. Among this components, role of substation is most important for elevation of reliability in electric power system. Therefore, the enhanced reliability considering the preventive inspection, repair work replacement is necessary. This paper proposes protection method in railway high voltage distribution lines. we model distribution system using PSCAD/EMTDC(Power System Computer Aided Design/Electro Magnetic Transients DC Analysis Program) and extract various fault data. In conclusion this methods can protection of ground fault.

In the distribution system, there are multiple power protection systems such as circuit breakers at substations, and reclosers, minimum circuit ampacities, fault interrupters on distribution lines. They are widely used to prevent partial outages, cascading power failure or blackout so that other healthy systems could maintain the integrity in case of the instant fault or permanent failure on the power lines. However, when a fault happens, it could cause a major black out due to the lack of the protection cooperation between the protection relay of the circuit breaker at a substation and a protection system on the distribution lines. To achieve the power system integrity better, it is required to develop the circuit breaker which can be operational within 1 cycle(16ms). In this study, the high speed circuit breaker which is filled up with eco-friendly gas is developed. This equipment achieved an excellent test results based on IEC 62271-111 standard. It is respected that this equipment would contribute to prevent the wide area blackout by isolating a fault area quicker and faster.

Most conventional protection relays are based on processing information in the spectrum that is close to or at power frequency. It is, however, widely known that faults on transmission lines produce frequency components of a wide range. High frequency signals caused by sudden changes in system voltage that occurs in the immediate post-fault period are generally outside the bandwidth of receptibility of most protection scheme. In this respect, a specially designed stack tuner is connected to the coupling capacitor of CVT, in order to capture the high frequency signals. Digital signal processing is then applied to the captured information to determine whether the fault is inside or outside the protected zone, and to discriminate the fault type. In this paper, modal transform is not applied to fault generated signals, because signals which are converted by modal transform are not have an information of each phase any longer. Instead, using peak voltage value of data windows is able to discriminate fault type. The paper concludes by presenting fault detection and discrimination of various faults on transmission line which are based on extensive simulation studies carried out on a typical 154kV Korean transmission line, using the EMTP software.

Power system fault analysis is commonly based on well-known symmetrical component method, which describes power system elements by positive, negative and zero sequence impedance. In case of balanced fault, such as three phase short circuit, transmission line can be represented by positive sequence impedance only. The majority of fault in transmission lines, however, is unbalanced fault, such as line-to-ground faults, so that both positive and zero sequence impedance is required for fault analysis. When unbalanced fault occurs, zero sequence current flows through earth and skywires in overhead transmission systems and through cable sheaths and earth in cable transmission systems. Since zero sequence current distribution between cable sheath and earth is dependent on both sheath bondings and grounding configurations, care must be taken to calculate zero sequence impedance of underground cable transmission lines. In this paper, conventional and EMTP-based sequence impedance calculation methods were described and applied to 345kV cable transmission systems (4 circuit, OF 2000mm2). Calculation results showed that detailed circuit analysis is desirable to avoid possible errors of sequence impedance calculation resulted from various configuration of cable sheath bonding and grounding in underground cable transmission systems.
Some deep faults do not reach the ground surface and are seldom recognized. Gokgang Fault area in the east of the Heunghae area of the Pohang basin has been selected to confirm the feasibility of the Horizontal-to-Vertical Spectral Ratio (HVSR) approach to identify blind faults. Densely spaced microtremor data have been acquired along two lines in the study area and processed to obtain resonance frequencies. An empirical relationship between the resonance frequency and the bedrock depth was proposed using borehole data available in the study area. Resonance frequencies along two lines were then converted to bedrock depths. The resulting depth profiles show significant lateral variations in the bedrock depth. As expected, considerable variation in the resonance frequency is observed near the Gokgang fault. The depth profiles also present additional significant variations in the resonance frequencies and the bedrock depths. The feature is presumably related to a blind fault that is previously unknown. Therefore, this case study confirms the feasibility of the HVSR technique to identify faults otherwise not recognized on the surface.

This paper presents a fault location algorithm for a single phase-to-ground fault on 3-terminal transmission systems. The method uses only the local end voltage and current signals. Other currents used for the algorithm are estimated by current distribution factors and the local end current. Negative sequence current is used to remove the effect of load current. Five distance equations based on Kirchhoff's voltage law are established for the location algorithm which can be applied to a parallel transmission line having a teed circuit. Separating the real and imaginary parts of each distance equation, final nonlinear equations that are functions of the fault location can be obtained. The Newton-Raphson method is then applied to calculate the estimated fault location. Among the solutions, a correct fault distance is selected by the conditions of the existence of solution. With the results of extensive S/W and H/W simulation tests, it was verified that the proposed algorithm can estimate an accurate fault distance in a 154kV model system.

Fault simulatior has been used to compute exact fault coverages of test vectors for digial circuits. But it is time consuming because execution time is proportional to square of circuit size. Recently, several algorithms for testability analysis have been published to cope with these problems. COP is very fast and accurate but cannot be used for sequential circuits, while STAFAN can be used for sequential circuits but needs vast amount of execution time due to good circuit simulation. We proposed EXTASEC which gave fast and accurate fault coverage. But it shows noticeable errors for a few sequential circuits. In this paper, it is shown that the inaccuracy is due to uninitializble flipflops, and we propose ITEM to improve the EXTASEC algorithm. ITEM is an improved evaluation method of fault coverage by analysis of backward lines and uninitializable flipflops. It is expected to perform efficiently for very large circuits where execution time is critical.
This paper presents the countermeasure to present the main transformer of distribution substation from deteriorating and failing due to repeated magnetic force of the transformer winding by ground fault current in 22.9kV multi grounded distribution system. The Winding strength to the short circuit current is designed to be endurable to the stress of over current. But this design is related to the manufactures. In this paper we examine the application of shunt reactor to the neutral point of the low side of the transformer to reduce fault current due to the fault in the distribution lines we have analysed the fault characteristics of the system and calculated the optimum ohmic values of the neutral reactor.
This paper proposes a fault location algorithm for two-parallel transmission line in the case of single line-to-ground fault Proposed algorithm is using voltage and current measured in the sending-end. The fault distance is simply determined by solving a second order polynomial equation due to the direct circuit analysis. The simulations by PSCAD/EMTDC have demonstrated the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
