  • The resistive type high temperature superconducting fault current limiter (HTSFCL) limits the fault current using the resistance generated by fault current. The generated resistance by fault current makes large pulse power which makes the operation of HTSFCL unstable. So, the cryogenic cooling system of the resistive type HTSFCL must diffuse and eliminate the pulse energy very quickly. Although the best way is to make wide direct contact area between HTS winding and coolant as much as possible, HTS winding also needs the impregnation layer which fixes and protects it from electromagnetic force. This paper deals with the thermal conductivity and dielectric strength of some epoxy compounds for the impregnation of high temperature superconducting (HTS) winding in liquid nitrogen. The measured data can be used in the optimal design of impregnation for HTS winding. Aluminar filling increased the thermal conductivity of epoxy compounds. Hardener also affected the thermal and electric characteristic of epoxy compounds.

  • Sensor network applications need synchronized time to the highest degree such as object tracking, consistent state updates, duplicate detection, and temporal order delivery. In addition, reliability issues and fault tolerance in sophisticated sensor networks have become a critical area of research today. In this paper, we proposed a fault tolerant clock management scheme in sensor networks considering two cases of fault model such as network faults and clock faults. The proposed scheme restricts the propagation of synchronization error when there are clock faults of nodes such as rapid fluctuation, severe changes in drift rate, and so on. In addition, it handles topology changes. Simulation results show that the proposed method has about $1.5{\sim}2.0$ times better performance than TPSN in the presence of faults.

  • A more specialized area of transient evaluations is transmission line fault-detecting and protection system. During the first cycle or two following a power system fault, a high-speed protective relay is expected to make a decision as to the severity or location of the fault, usually based on 60 Hz information, i.e. the phase and magnitude of 60 Hz voltage or current signals. It is precisely at this time however that the signal is badly corrupted by noise, in the form of a de offset or frequencies above 50 Hz. One of several possible sources of transients in protection measuring signals is in the primary system for which protection is required in its response to the impact of short circuit fault on-set. Other sources are in the primary voltage and current transducers from which protection signals are derived, and, often of particular importance, in the interface circuits between the transducer secondaries and the comparator and measuring elements of the protection system. However, the noise signals that will be described in this paper are due to the main power system only and do not include errors due to current or voltage transducers.

  • The frequency of earthquake occurrence tends to increase in Korea. Therefore, the stability of pipeline, such as watersupply pipe, gas pipe, and oil pipe etc. across fault zones in Gyoung-sang landmass is very important, expecially , in metropolitan area. There were some examples of the construction of buried pipeline across fault zones in Korea. the interactiion between the buried pipeline across fault zones and the ground is considered. As well, in the interfaces of them, the direct shear numerical analysis model including elasto-plastic joint element is assumed that the retained dilatancy theory in them, otherwise. Also, the other elements are modeled the ground is nonlinear elastic coutinuaus beam, respectively. In this study, the maximum shear force point exist inside retaine zone(anchored zone) during shwar (as fault sliding), and the distribution of pipeline's behavior is all alike them of pipeline buried in ladnsliding grounds. Since the pipeline is not continuous beam but jointed by steel-pipe segments , practically, on acting of a large bending moment or a shear force, then, those are may be unstable. The reaearch on this point may be new approach.

  • By using amplitude ratios (SV/P, SH/P, SV/SH) and P and S wave polarities, we obtained fault plane solutions of the June 26, 1997 Kyong-ju earthquake. The solutions show $150{\pm}4^{\circ}$ in strike, $63{\pm}6^{\circ}$ in dip and $65{\pm}7^{\circ}$ in rake, or $18{\pm}12^{\circ}$ in strike, $26{\pm}3^{\circ}$ in dip and $120{\pm}5^{\circ}$ in rake. This result implies the stress field trending ENE-WSW, which is remarkably consistent with the previous results obtained from the moment tensor inversion, and from the composite fault plane solution for the events occurred around the Yangsan fault area.

  • We need the flexible method for communication network configuration and fault management business procedure. Therefore development of systematic integrating fault management system is essential to meet on these requests. We must design the integrating fault management system so that can run the repair processing for both data communication network management and new next generation data communication network of various type. In general it is effective that the system is consisted of decentralized module to be accessibele for business logic and datum to remote area. To Solve these problem, a method is to use object-oriented design technique. That is, it is to abstract reusability objects and make component module using the abstracted objects. In this paper, we propose a fault management system of communication network service using object-oriented design techniques which are UML(Unified Modeling Language) and EJB(Enterprise Java Bean).

  • The ELF-MT survey has been conducted at 9 points along the national road between the Sindangri and Dojonri area to study on the boundary between the Okchon and Choson systems, and subsurface geological structure of these two systems. Natural electromagnetic fields of 7.8, 14, and 20 Hz in the Schumann resonant frequency band were used for ELF-MT measurement. Apparent resistivity values were calculated from the measured magnetic and electric fields at each frequency, and resistivity sections were obtained by means of a trial and error method for one-dimensional analysis and finite element method for two-dimensioal analysis. The results of this study show that the resistivities of the Okchon and Choson systems are 700-3500 ohm-m and 40-5000 ohm-m, respectively. The boundary between these two systems is a fault with the width of 1 km fault zone and resistivity value of 200 ohm-m, and is located around Koburangjae. Another fault is appeared in Sindangri, and its resistivity value is 130 ohm-m. Intrusion of biotite granite is distributed in Jungchijae, and its resistivity value is 750 ohm-m. The area between Susanri and Koburangjae shows the highest resistivity value of 3500 ohm-m because metabasite and amphibolite are distributed in that area. Extremely low resistivity value of 40 ohm-m around Yongamsan is due to the Yongam formation, which is composed of graphitic black slate and overlying Choson Great Limestone group.

  • Ogchon Supergroup directly contacts with Choseon Supergroup in the northern area of Worak-san, where evidences indicating thrust-fault formed during $D_2$-deformation are observed. On footwall of thrust fault, calcite veins in Gounri Formation belonging to Choson Supergroup may be deformed during thrust faulting($D_2$). Calcite veins are parallel to axial plane cleavage($S_2$) of $F_2$ fold and truncate slaty cleavage($S_1$). Therefore, we can use deformation twins in calcite grains of the veins as a marker for inferred differential stress operated upon thrust faulting. The inferred differential stresses are estimated at 190 Mpa from K, sample. The stress from K, sample close to the contact between Ogchon Supergroup and Choseon Supergroup shows a higher value than $K_2$-$K_6$ samples, probably having an important influence upon thrust faulting. The differential stress reveal again high value at $K_7$ sample, which may suggest the presence of another thrust fault.

  • The mechanical characteristics of a fault gouge from near Mt. Kumjung in Kumjung-Gu, Busan, were estimated from laboratory tests on different joint models. Fault gouge samples and joint samples in biotite granite were obtained from boreholes in the study area that had penetrated small faults associated with the Dongnae and Yangsan faults. XRD and SEM analyses revealed that for the fault gouge consists of several clay minerals with tabular structure (kaolinite, montmorillonite, illite, sericite), which could cause the considerable reduction of shear strength when wet. The shear strength of the fault gouge was obtained from direct shear tests of the fault gouge itself and from direct shear tests of several natural/artificial joint surfaces coated with fault gouge. The results indicate that the reduction of shear strength is more abrupt for the joint surfaces coated with fault gouge compared with uncoated joint surfaces, and that the friction angle of the fault gouge between joint surfaces is much lower than the internal friction angle of the fault gouge itself. Fault gouges in contact with rock, therefore, could have a stronger negative effect on the stability of structures in rock masses than the fault gouge itself.

  • We present the K-Ar age-dating results of the bulk and the less than $0.1{\mu}m$ fraction of the fault gouges collected from some major faults in the Gyeongsang basin. We try to determine the timings of fault activation based on the mineralogical characteristics, and to interpret the spatio-temporal variability of the major fault events during the Cenozoic Era by considering together with the previous results. We propose at least the 3-times of major fault events at about 50 Ma, and just after 30 Ma and 20 Ma in the Gyeongsang basin, which were inferred from the combined approach of the K-Ar ages and the clay mineralogy of the bulk fault gouges and the <$0.1{\mu}m$ fractions. The fault activation timings of the Yangsan fault tend to be younger in the northern part than in the southern part. In particular, the inferred fault events just after 30 Ma and 20 Ma are mainly detected in the Ocheon fault and the related faults, and the fault in the Gyeongju area. The fault activation timings of the major faults can be revised accurately by using illite-age-analysis(IAA) method. These geochronological determinations of the multiple events of the major faults in the Gyeongsang basin are crucial to establish the tectonic evolution in the southeastern part of the Korean Peninsula during the Cenozoic Era.
