  • This paper proposes a novel fractal coding method for fast encoding and high compression to shorten time to take on fractal encoding by using limited search area. First. the original image is contracted respectively by half and by quarter with the scaling method and bit-plane method. And then, the corresponding domain block of the quarter-sized image which is most similar with one range block of the half-sized image is searched within the limited area in order to reduce the encoding time extremely. As the result of the evaluation, the proposed algorithm provided much shorter encoding time and better compression ratio with a little degradation of the decoded image qualify than Jacquin's method.

  • In this paper, we focus on efficient construction of tightest matched subtree (TMSubtree) results, for keyword queries on extensible markup language (XML) data, based on smallest lowest common ancestor (SLCA) semantics. Here, "matched" means that all nodes in a returned subtree satisfy the constraint that the set of distinct keywords of the subtree rooted at each node is not subsumed by that of any of its sibling nodes, while "tightest" means that no two subtrees rooted at two sibling nodes can contain the same set of keywords. Assume that d is the depth of a given TMSubtree, m is the number of keywords of a given query Q. We proved that if d ${\leq}$ m, a matched subtree result has at most 2m! nodes; otherwise, the size of a matched subtree result is bounded by (d - m + 2)m!. Based on this theoretical result, we propose a pipelined algorithm to construct TMSubtree results without rescanning all node labels. Experiments verify the benefits of our algorithm in aiding keyword search over XML data.

  • This paper presents a new method which applies a genetic algorithm(GA) for determining which sectionalizing switch to operate in order to solve the distribution system loss minimization re-configuration problem. The distribution system loss minimization re-configuration problem is in essence a 0-1 planning problem which means that for typical system scales the number of combinations requiring searches becomes extremely large. In order to deal with this problem, a new approach which applies a GA was presented. Briefly, GA are a type of random number search method, however, they incorporate a multi-point search feature. Further, every point is not is not separately and respectively renewed, therefore, if parallel processing is applied, we can expect a fast solution algorithm to result.

  • According to the PDE scheme, it is desirable to make the value of SAD to be rapidly increased in motion estimation. In this paper, we propose a new block matching algorithm based on the combination of a new scan and search order. In the proposed scan order, a current block is divided by the frequency that is estimated by summing the difference between the mean and the values of the pixels. And then the calculation of SAD is performed from the highest frequency area. In the proposed search order based on DC difference between the current and the candidate block, candidate blocks with low DC are early checked in motion estimation. Simulation results show that the proposed method achieves about 6% computational gain compared with the conventional methods.

  • PSO(Particle Swarm Optimization) is an optimization algorithm in which simple particles search an optimal solution using shared information acquired through their own experiences. PSO applications are so numerous and diverse. Lots of researches have been made mainly on the parameter settings, topology, particle's movement in order to achieve fast convergence to proper regions of search space for optimization. In standard PSO, since each particle uses only information of its and best neighbor, swarm does not explore diverse regions and intended to premature to local optima. In this paper, we propose a new particle's movement strategy in order to explore diverse regions of search space. The strategy is that each particle moves according to relative weights of several better neighbors. The strategy of exploring diverse regions is effective and produces less local optimizations and accelerating of the optimization speed and higher success rates than standard PSO. Also, in order to raise success rates, we propose a strategy for checking whether swarm falls into local optimum. The new PSO algorithm with these two strategies shows the improvement in the search speed and success rate in the test of benchmark functions.

  • In the asynchrous OFCDM(Orthogonal Frequency and Code Division Multiplexing) system, a three-step cell search algorithm is performed for the initial synchronization in the following three steps: OFCDM symbol timing, i.e., Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) window timing is estimated employing guard interval (GI) correlation in the first step, then the frame timing and CSSC (Cell Specific Scrambling Code) group is detected by taking the correlation of the CPICH(Common Pilot Channel) based on the property yeilded by shifting the CSSC phase in the frequency domain. Finally, the CSSC phase within the group is identified in the third step. This paper proposes a modification code(PCSSCG:Patial Cell Specific Scrambling Code Group) of the conventional CPICH based cell search algorithm in the second step which offers MS(Mobile Station) complexity reductions with the nearly same performance. The proposed method is to be compared and verified through the computer simulation.

  • Motion Estimation (ME) is a core part of most Video compression systems since it affects directly the output video quality and the encoding time. The most basic method of ME, Full Search (FS) gives the highest visual quality but also has the problem of significant computational load. To solve this problem, many fast algorithm has been proposed. Among them, MVFAST and PMVFAST show impressive results in video quality and the computational load by using the correlation between motion vectors of adjacent blocks. In particular, PMVFAST reduces search points dramatically and also gives very high video quality by using the median predictor. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm that uses the redefined median predictor which reduces the number of search points and yields a high visual quality by reducing the number of thresholds and early termination conditions.

  • Asynchronous OFCDM(Orthogonal Frequency and Code Division Multiplexing) systems must have a cell search process necessarily unlike synch개nous systems. this process is hewn initial synchronization and a three-step cell search algorithm is performed for the initial synchronization in the following three steps: OFCDM symbol timing, i.e., Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) window timing is estimated employing guard interval (GI) correlation in the first step, then the frame timing and CSSC(Cell Specific Scrambling Code) group is detected by taking the correlation of the CPICH(Common Pilot Channel) based on the property yielded by shifting the CSSC phase in the frequency domain. Finally, the CSSC phase within the group is identified in the third step. This paper proposes a modification group code with two or three block of the conventional CPICH based cell search algorithm in the second step which offers MS(Mobile Station) complexity reductions. however, the effect of the reduction complexity leads to degradation of the performance therefore, look for combination to have the most minimum degradation. the proposed block type group code with suitable combinations is the nearly sane performance as conventional group code and has a complexity reduction that is to be compared and verified through the computer simulation.

  • Recently, main memory access is a performance bottleneck for many computer applications. Cache memory is introduced in order to reduce memory access latency. However, it is possible for cache memory to reduce memory access latency, when desired data are located on cache. EST tree is proposed to solve this problem by improving T tree. However, when doing a range search, EST tree has to search unnecessary nodes. Therefore, this paper proposes $CST^+$ tree which has the merit of CST tree and is possible to do a range search by linking data nodes with linked lists. By experiments, we show that $CST^+$ is $4{\sim}10$ times as fast as CST and $CSB^+$. In addition, rebuilding an index Is an essential step for the database recovery from system failure. In this paper, we propose a fast tree index rebuilding algorithm called MaxPL. MaxPL has no node-split overhead and employs a parallelism for reading the data records and inserting the keys into the index. We show that MaxPL is $2{\sim}11$ times as fast as sequential insert and batch insert.

  • The Distribution System consist of many tie-line switches and sectionalizing switches, operated a radial type. When an outage occurs in Distribution System, outage areas are isolated by system switches, has to restored as soon as possible. At this time, system operator have to get a information about network topology for service restoration of outage areas. Therefore, the searching result of restorative topology has to fast computation time and reliable result topology for to restore a electric service to outage areas, equal to optimal switching operation problem. So, the problem can be defined as combinatorial optimization problem. The service restoration problem is so important problem which have outage area minimization, outage loss minimization. Many researcher is applying to the service restoration problem with various techniques. In this paper, advanced Dijkstra algorithm is applied to searching a restoration topology, is so efficient to searching a shortest path in graph type network. Additionally, fuzzy rules and operator are applied to overcome a fuzziness of correlation with input data. The present technique has superior results which are fast computation time and searching results than previous researches, demonstrated by example distribution model system which has 3 feeders, 26 buses. For a application capability to real distribution system, additionally demonstrated by real distribution system of KEPCO(Korea Electric Power Corporation) which has 8 feeders and 140 buses.
