  • This study had two aims (1) to explore the trajectory of family functioning (flexibility and cohesion) in the mothers' perspective and classify it according to the development of their child, and (2) to examine the differences in children's self-esteem as well the internal and external behavioral problems based on the latent groups. A total of 1,348 mothers and their children who participated in the survey in 2013 through to 2017 were analyzed. The group was subdivided into low incremental, average incremental, average-above incremental, and high unchanged groups according to the flexibility, and into low incremental, average incremental, decremental, high incremental, and above-high unchanged groups in terms of cohesion. From 2015 to 2017, the self-esteem of elementary school-age children showed differences depending on the flexibility and cohesion of family functioning; children in the high-unchanged group of flexibility and the above-high unchanged group of cohesion showed high self-esteem. Behavior problems of early childhood and elementary school-age children varied according to the latent classes of flexibility and the cohesion of family functioning. Children in low incremental and average incremental groups of flexibility and low incremental, average incremental, and decremental groups of cohesion showed more internal and external behavioral problems. These findings suggest that family functioning has significant effects on the psychological aspects of children.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the factors affecting rehabilitation of physically disabled persons . Data were collected from 118 physically disabled persons who were registered at facilities for disabled persons by an interview surevey Conducted from October 17 to October 26, 1988. The three facilities for the survey were selected by stratified random sampling. The results were as follows : 1. Using factor analysis, 10 variables were-grouped into 4 factors : physical need, need for social problem-solving, need for social interaction and educational need. The proportion of variance explained by these factors was $58.3\%$. 2. Age, religion and job were significantly related to the functional life scale score, but other variables were not. 3. Family APGAR score and severity of disability were significantly rotated to the functional life scale score. 4. From the multiple regression analysis on rehabilitation of the physically disabled person, the following: three variables were statistically significant : age, severity of disability and family functioning. These results suggest that age, severity of disability and family functioning variables are important factors for rehabilitation of physically disabled persons. Since the family functioning variable can be controlled by care, rehabilitation team should monitor the variable closely to improve the efficiency of rehabilitation. Because of their implication for further study, some variables, other than those considered here, are needed for studying rehabilitation of physically disabled persons.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate how much adolescents use the internet and how much they are addicted to the internet, and to examine the relative effect of the personal and family related variables on the internet addiction. Data was collected through a questionnaire survey given to 420 students of middle school in Kwangju province. The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, stepwise multi-regression analysis, Cronbach's $\alpha$, and Pearson's correlations coefficient. The major findings obtained from this study were as follows: 1. The proportion of internet addiction of adolescents was 9.1%. 2. Parent's control, positive family emotion and self-efficacy were proved to be the most significant variables. The internet addiction increased as the score of parent's control got higher, and the scores of the positive family emotion and the self-efficacy lower. 3. Because the positive family emotion was found to be a very important factor in determining internet addiction, this research proposes that the further family life education program should be developed to facilitate the normal family functioning in relations with preventing internet addiction.
