A study on professional identity and development in family counselors - Focusing on grounded theory approach - (가족상담사의 전문직 정체성 및 발달 연구: 근거이론접근을 중심으로)

  • Objectives: This study is designed to explore and understand what professional identity and professional development are like in family counselors. Method: This study to achieve its purpose, collected data through in-depth interview with fifteen(15) family counselors through grounded theory approach. Results: Major research findings can be summarized as follows. 176 concepts were drawn through open coding, again classified into 47 categories and finally into 18 subcategories. Through selective coding, 'growing as an expert in family counseling through continuous exertions for growth' appeared as core category. Through this process, the types of professional development in family counselors were classified into job pursuing type, self achieving type, self understanding type, and volunteering type. Through process analysis, family counselors' professional development could be divided into three steps with the course of time: step of immersion, self-understanding and acceptance, and integration. Based on this, the hypothetical relations in four areas: personal area, family area, interpersonal area, and vocational area were summarized in statements. Conclusion: This study is significant in that it attempted to establish a theory to explain the professional identity, development and influence factors shown in family counselors. It also provides those who hope to grow as expert in family counseling with long-term visions and implications for family counselor training and supervision. In this study, the suggestions on the tasks to check and solve the factors for improving and supporting the foundations of family counselors' professional identities by highlighting the family counselors own identify that is different from other counselors are expected to be used as primary data for preparing laws and regulations related to family counseling in the future.

The Effects of Consumer Counselor's Reaction and Counseling Work Stress on Counseling Work Satisfaction and Work Performance (기업 소비자상담사의 블랙컨슈머 대응행동과 업무스트레스가 업무수행과 업무만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examined differences in counseling work and work performance in a firm by the individual characteristics of counselors. This study also investigated the effects of consumer counselor's reaction and stress from counseling work on counselor satisfaction in regards to counseling work and work performance. The results of this study are as follows. First, consumer counselor's work satisfaction was high for female counselors, university-educated, with middle or high status occupations, had short work years, had a higher tendency towards consumerism, worked in a counseling department with an active reaction policy towards consumer complaints, and had a lower level. Second, the work performance of a counselor was high for those who were older, university-educated, had short work years, worked in large-size counseling departments in a firm, had a higher tendency of consumerism, and worked in counseling departments with active reaction policies toward consumer and consumer's complaints. Third, consumer counselor's work stress effected work satisfaction but did not influence work performance. The counselor's reaction towards consumer's complaints influenced the work performance but did not influence the work satisfaction of a counselor.

  • This study is designed to extent the investigation of the Kyongbuk Womens policy the area of family life and womens economic activity. Results indicated that the primary barriers of getting a job for married women was child rearing and the diffency of working information. On the family life, communication patterns were contributed to the problem of the relationship between child and parent, and spouse relationship. And also, school violence was founded the hot problem. The results underscore the importance of child rearing support system, and affirmative action in womens employment enviroment, Family Life Educator and Family Counselor.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the demand for the family worker and family well-being program. For this analysis, the data taken from 367 married women who are using at least 1 program in related institutions in Ulsan were used. The results of this study are as follows : 1. The most demanded role of family worker is family counselor and information performer. So the education system and curriculum for family worker should take more the counseling and information related contents. 2. The most demanded family well-being programs are the communication skill between parents and children and parenting role. The demand for the family well-being programs is different with the users' age, motivation, institutions, etc. So the organization of the program can very as users' characteristics and institutions.

Counseling Services and Work Conditions Perceived by Counselors in Healthy Family Support Centers (상담실무자가 지각한 건강가정지원센터의 상담업무와 근무환경)

  • The present study investigated counseling services and work conditions perceived by counselors in Healthy Family Support Centers. Questionnaire survey by mail was used to collect data from 32 counselors in Healthy Family Support Centers. Major findings of this study were as follows. First, many counselors in Healthy Family Support Centers perceived work load of counseling services heavily though they thought counseling work attractive and they would keep on working. Second, many counselors had a positive view of work conditions as a workplace but not a few of them complained about physical work conditions including poor facilities like lack of counseling room space in Centers. In addition to this, many suggestions were proposed to improve the counseling services and work conditions perceived by counselors in Healthy Family Support Centers.

Basic Study for the Education Programs of Multi-cultural Family Counselors : Focus Group Interviews of the Multi-cultural Staffs (다문화상담자 교육 콘텐츠 개발을 위한 기초연구 : 다문화 현장 전문가 FGI를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the problems of a multi-cultural family counseling as a support for the families in order to suggest efficient education programs for counselors. For these reasons, this study used interviews of three focus-groups consisting of 11 experts each other, and then the qualitative data was analyzed. The analysis of data was conducted by two doctors and one master and investigated by a multi-cultural counselor. As a result, 5 categories, 13 sub-categories, and 46 definitions were identified. Each five categories were the problems of multi-cultural counseling, effective multi-cultural counseling skill, the qualities of a counselor with multi-cultural attitude and recognition, multi-cultural knowledge factors and effective teaching methods. At last, implications, practical uses, and suggestions for future researches were also discussed in this study.

A Study for the Job and Competency of Healthy Family Supporter in charge of Educational work in Healthy Family Support Center (건강가정지원센터의 교육사업 담당 건강가정사의 직무와 역량에 관한 연구)

  • The aims of this article were to examine the basic law, contents and concept of educational program for healthy family and provide the jobs and competency of healthy family supporter for educational work. The research objects were 53 healthy family supporters for educational work inclusive of full-time and part-time position. They was analyzed through the survey. The process of research consisted of two parts. One was to suggest their jobs and requirements, the other were to offer their core competency and area for improvement. First, the jobs of healthy family supporters for educational work were the planning and valuation of program. The requirements for the performance of their duties are having a bachelor's degree or a master's degree, career for 1-3years, and a certificate of qualification of healthy family supporters, social worker and family counselor. Second, their competencies were the understanding of education for family life, management for healthy family support center, planning and valuation of educational program, a theory of counsel, community networking, ability of documentation, sociality, communication skill, the ability of solving the problem, the adaptation of various environments, receptiveness, positiveness and so on.

  • This study investigates how experiences of domestic violence from fathers during childhood and adolescence have influenced the formation of one counselor's identity and the outcomes in their life. The research aims to explore how studying the life of this counselor can provide positive effects to other clients who have experienced domestic violence. The research methodology involves in-depth interviews and observations of the participants to understand the subjects, adopting a qualitative research approach based on counseling content. The research findings demonstrate that experiences of domestic violence during childhood and adolescence have had a significant impact on shaping an individual's identity and that through 'overcoming,' one can reconstruct a negative life of 'violence' into a positive life as a 'counselor.' Furthermore, these experiences have provided an opportunity for the individual to perceive themselves more objectively and to find meaning in personal growth and maturity throughout their life journey.

An Analysis of the Job and Competency of the Healthy Family Supporter as a Middle Manager on the Healthy Family Support Center (건강가정지원센터 중간관리자급 건강가정사의 직무현황과 역량분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the contents and concept of program for healthy family and provide job opportunity and competency of healthy family supporter. For this research, participants are 51 healthy family supporters as a middle manager. Data were obtained through the survey using a questionnaire developed by the ministry of women and family and headquarter of healthy family support centers in 2007. The research process consists of two parts. One is to suggest their jobs and requirements, the other is to offer their core competency and area for improvement. First, the jobs of healthy family supporters as a middle manager are the generalization of team's work including the planning, management and coordination, training for the staff, and network of social resources. They recognized the planning and management of healthy family support center's goal and course as a strategic job. The requirements for the performance of their duties are having a bachelor's or a master's degree, career more than for 3 years, and a certificate of qualification of healthy family supporters, social worker and family counselor. Second, their competencies are the understanding of education of family life, theory of family counselling, the planning and valuation of program for healthy family, understanding for the variegated family, management of organization, networking with resources, ability of documentation, ability of persuasion and negotiation, management of time, sociality, communication skill, solving the problem, positiveness, cooperative spirit and so on.

Job and Competency of Healthy Family Supporter in Charge of Counselling Work for Training (상담영역 건강가정사의 직무 및 보수교육 콘텐츠 개발을 위한 역량연구)

The requirements for the performance of their duties are having a master's degree, career for 3years, and a certificate of qualification of family counselor, healthy family supporters and social worker. Second, their competencies are understanding of the characteristic and life cycle of family, family law, education of family life, ability of documentation, data analysis, sensitivity of the change of family, society and environment, ability of solving the problem, attitude of the dignity of man, positiveness and so on.
