A simulation of failures on responsible elements is only one form of the extreme structural behavior analysis. By understanding the dynamic behavior in incidental situations, it is possible to make a special structural design from the point of the largest axial force, stress and redundancy. The numerical realization of one such simulation analysis was performed using FEM in this paper. The boundary parameters of transient analysis, such as overall structural damping coefficient, load accelerations, time of load fall and internal forces in the responsible structural elements, were determined on the basis of the dynamic experimental parameters. The structure eigenfrequencies were determined in modal analysis. In the study, the basic incidental models were set. The models were identified by many years of monitoring incidental situations and the most frequent human errors in work with heavy structures. The combined load models of structure are defined in the paper since the incidents simply arise as consequences of cumulative errors and failures. A feature of a combined model is that the single incident causes the next incident (consecutive timing) as well as that other simple dynamic actions are simultaneous. The structure was observed in three typical load positions taken from the crane passport (range-load). The obtained dynamic responses indicate the degree of structural sensitivity depending on the character of incident. The dynamic coefficient KD was adopted as a parameter for the evaluation of structural sensitivity.
The spacer grid is one of the main structural components in fuel assembly, which supports the fuel rods, guides cooling water, and protects the fuel assembly from the external impact load such as earthquakes. The nonlinear dynamic impact analysis is conducted by using the finite element code ABAQUS/Explicit. Boundary condition for dynamic analysis is well applied to the test condition. Simulation results also similarly predict the local buckling phenomena. In addition to the buckling parameter, the local buckling cause is examined by both simulation and test method. It is found to correspond well with the test results. Impact tests are also carried out for some specimens of the spacer grid in order to compare the results between the test and the simulation. This test is accomplished by a free fall dummy weight onto the specimen. From this test, only the uppermost and lowermost layers of the multi-cell are buckled, which implies the local buckling at the weakest point of the grid structure.

During certification of freefall lifeboats, it is necessary to estimate the injury potential of the impact loads exerted on the occupants during water entry. This paper focused on the numerical simulation to predict the acceleration response during the impact of freefall lifeboats on the water using FSI(Fluid-Structure Interaction) analysis technique of LS-DYNA code. FSI problems could be conveniently simulated by the overlapping capability using Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian(ALE) formulation and Euler-Lagrange coupling algorithm of LS-DYNA code. Through this study, it could be found that simulation results were in relatively good agreement with experimental ones in the acceleration peak values, and that the loading conditions were very sensitive to the acceleration responses by the experimental and simulation results.

This study investigates the virtual reality (VR) simulation to train construction workers for modular construction. Recently, the construction industry has been experiencing a growing demand for modular construction due to a shortage of labors and an increasing social need for safety. While the demand for modular construction has been increasing, construction labors suffer a basic knowledge regarding modular construction. The users of the simulation, developed by Unity program and Oculus Quest 2, experience the removal of hazardous elements at the location whether the modular unit suspended by a crane is lowered, the lowering and assembly of units through crane operation, and the fall from the roof which is the most frequent accidents in modular construction. The simulation was tested by 15 subjects. The effectiveness of the education was measured through a survey on self-efficacy, perceived usefulness, usability, and presence. It was found that the VR training is suitable for educating on the modular construction activities and safety issues related to them. This study also found that perceived usefulness is the factor that has the greatest impact on self-efficacy. This study can contribute to resolving the labor education issues for the deployment of modular construction.

As the population is aging, accidents involving elderly people are also increasing (2014:11,667 persons; 2018: 11,797 persons). In the case of the elderly population, falling accidents are the primary direct or indirect causes of death; in particular, they face an elevated risk of staircase falls. This study proposes a method of evaluating the safety of staircases using Building Information Modeling (BIM)-based virtual simulation. By making a virtual user with the behavioral characteristics of the elderly respond to a staircase in a BIM model, its safety performance can be evaluated. The evaluation criteria were derived from regulations, elements, and characteristics relevant to the safety of staircases. To validate the proposed method, safety evaluation tests were simulated on actual staircases. The evaluation result of the test simulation shows the safety scores of 1.97 points for the elderly user and 2.95 points for the average male adult user against a required safety score of a minimum of 2 points. That is, safety is relative to users as the safety of the same staircase can be different depending upon the different behavioral characteristics of users. The study suggests that the risk of staircase-related fall accidents to the elderly can be reduced by improving staircase designs through the proposed method.

Tsunami occurred by a rapid change in the ocean floor is a natural disaster that causes serious damage worldwide. South Korea seems to be out of the range of this damage, but it is quite possible that South Korea will fall within the range due to the long-distance propagation features of tsunami and many earthquakes occurred in Japan. However, the analysis and preparation for tsunami have been still insufficient. In this paper, we propose a tsunami simulation model based on cellular automata for analyzing coastal inundation. The proposed model calculates the range of inundation in coastal areas by propagating the energy of tsunami using the interaction between neighboring cells. We define interaction rules and algorithms for the energy transfer and propose a software tool to effectively utilize the model. In addition, to verify and tune the simulation model, we used the actual tsunami data in 2010 at Dichato, Chile. As a case study, the proposed model was applied to analyze the coastal inundation according to tsunami height in Gwangali Beach, a famous site in Busan. It is expected that the simulation model can be a help to prepare an effective countermeasure against tsunami and be used for a virtual evacuating training.

Someday Mt. Baekdu could erupt by records of orogeny activity until today. This study is to predict influence area of lava flow and volcanic ash by simulation of volcanic eruption in the Mt. Baekdu. Simulation for eruption applied to supposing 7 grade of volcanic explosivity index, season from fall to spring. As a simulation results, lava flewed down into slope of China and volcanic ash diffused over the North Korea. Volcanic ash spreads to Ulneung area after nine hours. It was predicted that 61 cities and villages out of 27 administrative districts of Si-Gun were affected by volcanic ash in North Korea and an immense volume of volcanic ash was blown into farm lands, city areas and forests. This results expected to utilize information for disaster preparation of North Korea and joint research with South-North Korea and China.

This paper proposes a simple process to fabricate tin and brass metal discs with a large surface area from molten droplets for the wet-refining process of nonferrous metals by assuming they have precious metal elements. To optimize the droplet condition in a graphite crucible, the appropriate nozzle size was determined using a simulation program (STAR-CCM+) by varying the diameters (0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 mm). The simulation results showed that both tin and brass do not fall out with a 0.5 mm diameter nozzle but they do fall out in continuous ribbon mode with a 2.0 mm nozzle. Only the 1.0mm nozzle was expected to fabricate droplets. Finally, solidified metal discs were fabricated successfully with the 1.0 mm nozzle within 10 minutes by impacting the droplets with a cooling water flowing over a Ti plate placed at the $40^{\circ}$ falling direction. The weight, average thickness, and surface area of the tin discs were 0.15 g, $107.8{\mu}m$, and $3.71cm^2$, respectively. The brass discs were 1.16 g, $129.15{\mu}m$, and $23.98cm^2$, respectively. The surface area of the tin and brass disc were 8.2 and 17.6 times the size of the tin and brass droplets, respectively. This process for precious metal extraction is expected to save cost and time.
This study investigated the effectiveness of visual biofeedback simulation training for patients with incomplete spinal cord injuries. Fifteen people with an ASIA impairment scale of C and D, according to the intervention method, were studied. They were randomly divided into two groups, seven people in the experimental group and eight people in the control group. They were studied three times a week for six weeks using a Tetrax Interactive Balance System, for a total of eighteen times, and each test took fifteen minutes. Paired t-tests were used to evaluate the changes before and after intervention. The difference between the groups was compared using an independent t-test. The experimental group showed significantly increased general stability, fall risk index, weight distribution (A, C, D, LEFT, HEEL) and weight distribution index, except for synchronization AC, BD. However, the control group only showed significantly increased weight distribution (A, C, LEFT). In a variation, experimental and control groups showed significantly increased weight distribution (A, B, C, HEEL), general stability, fall risk index and synchronization AD. Consequently, it was found that visual biofeedback simulation training was effective for the balance ability of incomplete spinal cord injury patients, and further studies are required.

Due to enhanced sealing and insulation of buildings, extensive use of glasses for building envelopes and increased use of heat generating office equipments, energy consumption of modem buildings for cooling is steadily increasing. With outdoor air cooling(ODAC) system, cooling load can be reduced by exchanging indoor air with the cold outdoor air during spring and fall seasons. If ODAC is operated based only on temperature, total cooling load may virtually increase if the outdoor humidity is high. To overcome this problem, ODAC should be controlled based on enthalpy. In this work energy saving characteristics of enthalpy controlled ODAC is studied using dynamic simulation. The result shows that cooling load can be reduced by 27% by adopting ODAC.
