  • This paper presents a method for facial feature representation and recognition from the Covariance Matrices of the Gabor-filtered images. Gabor filters are a very powerful tool for processing images that respond to different local orientations and wave numbers around points of interest, especially on the local features on the face. This is a very unique attribute needed to extract special features around the facial components like eyebrows, eyes, mouth and nose. The Covariance matrices computed on Gabor filtered faces are adopted as the feature representation for face recognition. Geodesic distance measure is used as a matching measure and is preferred for its global consistency over other methods. Geodesic measure takes into consideration the position of the data points in addition to the geometric structure of given face images. The proposed method is invariant and robust under rotation, pose, or boundary distortion. Tests run on random images and also on publicly available JAFFE and FRAV3D face recognition databases provide impressively high percentage of recognition.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate two major feature extraction techniques based on generic modular face recognition system. Detailed algorithms are described for principal component analysis (PCA) and independent component analysis (ICA). PCA and ICA ate statistical techniques for feature extraction and their incorporation into a face recognition system requires numerous design decisions. We explicitly state the design decisions by introducing a modular-based face recognition system since some of these decision are not documented in the literature. We explored different implementations of each module, and evaluate the statistical feature extraction algorithms based on the FERET performance evaluation protocol (the de facto standard method for evaluating face recognition algorithms). In this paper, we perform two experiments. In the first experiment, we report performance results on the FERET database based on PCA. In the second experiment, we examine performance variations based on ICA feature extraction algorithm. The experimental results are reported using four different categories of image sets including front, lighting, and duplicate images.

  • Recently, subspace analysis has raised its performance to a higher level through the adoption of kernel-based nonlinearity. Especially, the radial basis function, based on its nonparametric nature, has shown promising results in face recognition. However, due to the endemic small sample size problem of face data, the conventional kernel-based feature extraction methods have difficulty in data representation. In this paper, we introduce a novel variant of the RBF kernel to alleviate this problem. By adopting the concept of the nearest feature line classifier, we show both effectiveness and generalizability of the proposed method, particularly regarding the small sample size issue.

  • Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a common term for technologies using micro chips that are able to communicate over short-range radio and that can be used for identifying physical objects. RFID technology already has several application areas and more are being envisioned all the time. While it has the potential of becoming a really ubiquitous part of the information society over time, there are many security and privacy concerns related to RFID that need to be solved. This paper proposes a method which could protect private information and ensure RFID's identification effectively storing face feature information on RFID tag. This method improved linear discriminant analysis has reduced the dimension of feature information which has large size of data. Therefore, face feature information can be stored in small memory field of RFID tag. The proposed algorithm in comparison with other previous methods shows better stability and elevated detection rate and also can be applied to the entrance control management system, digital identification card and others.

  • The statistical analysis of the feature extraction and the neural networks are proposed to recognize a human face. In the preprocessing step, the normalized skin color map with Gaussian functions is employed to extract the region efface candidate. The feature information in the region of face candidate is used to detect a face region. In the recognition step, as a tested, the 360 images of 30 persons are trained by the backpropagation algorithm. The images of each person are obtained from the various direction, pose, and facial expression, Input variables of the neural networks are the feature information that comes from the eigenface spaces. The simulation results of 30 persons show that the proposed method yields high recognition rates.

  • Face feature detection plays an important role in application such as automatic speechreading, human computer interface, face recognition, and face image database management. We proposed a automatic speechreading feature detection algorithm for color image using color information. Face feature pixels is represented for various value because of the luminance and chrominance in various color space. Face features are detected by amplifying, reducing the value and make a comparison between the represented image. The eye and nose position, inner boundary of lips and the outer line of the tooth is detected and show very encouraging result.

  • In this paper, We have designed a face recognition system based on the embedded Linux. This paper has an aim in embedded system to recognize the face more exactly. At first, the contrast of the face image is adjusted with lightening compensation method, the skin and lip color is founded based on YCbCr values from the compensated image. To take advantage of the method based on feature and appearance, these methods are applied to the eyes which has the most highly recognition rate of all the part of the human face. For eyes detecting, which is the most important component of the face recognition, we calculate the horizontal gradient of the face image and the maximum value. This part of the face is resized for fitting the eye image. The image, which is resized for fit to the eye image stored to be compared, is extracted to be the feature vectors using the continuous wavelet transform and these vectors are decided to be whether the same person or not with PNN, to miminize the error rate, the accuracy is analyzed due to the rotation or movement of the face. Also last part of this paper we represent many cases to prove the algorithm contains the feature vector extraction and accuracy of the comparison method.

  • In this paper, we present a performance evaluation for face recognition algorithm using feature feedback according to the Feature mask. In the face recognition method using feature feedback, important region is extracted from original data set by using the reverse mapping from the extracted features to the original space. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of feature feedback according to shape of Feature Mask for Yale data. Comparing the result using Important part and unimportant part, we show the validity and applicability of the pattern recognition method based on feature feedback.

  • This article describes 3 dimensional (3D) face recognition system using histogram of oriented gradients (HOG) based on face curvature. The surface curvatures in the face contain the most important personal feature information. In this paper, 3D face images are recognized by the face components: cheek, eyes, mouth, and nose. For the proposed approach, the first step uses the face curvatures which present the facial features for 3D face images, after normalization using the singular value decomposition (SVD). Fisherface method is then applied to each component curvature face. The reason for adapting the Fisherface method maintains the surface attribute for the face curvature, even though it can generate reduced image dimension. And histogram of oriented gradients (HOG) descriptor is one of the state-of-art methods which have been shown to significantly outperform the existing feature set for several objects detection and recognition. In the last step, the linear discriminant analysis is explained for each component. The experimental results showed that the proposed approach leads to higher detection accuracy rate than other methods.

  • This paper proposes to synthesize facial images from a few parameters for the pose and the expression of their constituent components. This parameterization makes the representation, storage, and transmission of face images effective. But it is difficult to parameterize facial images because variations of face images show a complicated nonlinear manifold in high-dimensional data space. To tackle this problem, we use an LLE (Locally Linear Embedding) technique for a good representation of face images, where the relationship among face images is preserving well and the projected manifold into the reduced feature space becomes smoother and more continuous. Next, we apply a snake model to estimate face feature values in the reduced feature space that corresponds to a specific pose and/or expression parameter. Finally, a synthetic face image is obtained from an interpolation of several neighboring face images in the vicinity of the estimated feature value. Experimental results show that the proposed method shows a negligible overlapping effect and creates an accurate and consistent synthetic face images with respect to changes of pose and/or expression parameters.
