In this paper, we proposed a new local micro pattern, Signed Local Directional Pattern(SLDP). SLDP uses information of edges to represent the face's texture. This can produce a more discriminating and efficient code than other state-of-the-art methods. Each micro pattern of SLDP is encoded by sign and its major directions in which maximum edge responses exist-which allows it to distinguish among similar edge patterns that have different intensity transitions. In this paper, we divide the face image into several regions, each of which is used to calculate the distributions of the SLDP codes. Each distribution represents features of the region and these features are concatenated into a feature vector. We carried out facial expression recognition with feature vectors and SVM(Support Vector Machine) on Cohn-Kanade and JAFFE databases. SLDP shows better classification accuracy than other existing methods.

Most human emotions are conveyed through facial expressions, which represent the predominant source of emotional data. This research investigates the impact of crowds on human emotions by analysing facial expressions. It examines how crowd behaviour, face recognition technology, and deep learning algorithms contribute to understanding the emotional change according to different level of crowd. The study identifies common emotions expressed during congestion, differences between crowded and less crowded areas, changes in facial expressions over time. The findings can inform urban planning and crowd event management by providing insights for developing coping mechanisms for affected individuals. However, limitations and challenges in using reliable facial expression analysis are also discussed, including age and context-related differences.

In this paper, we propose a real-time face detection/tracking methodology with Haar wavelets and skin color. The proposed method boosts face detection and face tracking performance by combining skin color and Haar wavelets in an efficient way. The proposed method resolves the problem such as rotation and occlusion due to the characteristic of the condensation algorithm based on sampling despite it uses same features in both detection and tracking. In particular, it can be applied to a variety of applications such as face recognition and facial expression recognition which need an exact position and size of face since it not only keeps track of the position of a face, but also covers the size variation. Our test results show that our method performs well even in a complex background, a scene with varying face orientation and so on.

In this paper, we proposes a method for recognizing the facial expressions using ICA(Independent Component Analysis)-factorial representation method. Facial expression recognition consists of two stages. First, a method of Feature extraction transforms the high dimensional face space into a low dimensional feature space using PCA(Principal Component Analysis). And then, the feature vectors are extracted by using ICA-factorial representation method. The second recognition stage is performed by using the Euclidean distance measure based KNN(K-Nearest Neighbor) algorithm. We constructed the facial expression database for six basic expressions(happiness, sadness, angry, surprise, fear, dislike) and obtained a better performance than previous works.

According to the growth of the service industry, stresses from emotional labor workers have been emerging as a social problem, thereby so-called the Emotional Labor Protection Act was implemented in 2018. However, insufficient substantial protection systems for emotional workers emphasizes the necessity of a digital stress management system. Thus, in this paper, we suggest a stress detection system for customer service representatives based on deep learning facial expression recognition. This system consists of a real-time face detection module, an emotion classification FER module that deep-learned big data including Korean emotion images, and a monitoring module that only visualizes stress levels. We designed the system to aim to monitor stress and prevent mental illness in emotional workers.

Nowadays, eyes detection is required and considered as the most important step in several applications, such as eye tracking, face identification and recognition, facial expression analysis and iris detection. This paper presents the eyes detection in facial images using Harris corner detection. Firstly, Haar-like features for face detection is used to detect a face region in an image. To separate the region of the eyes from a whole face region, the projection function is applied in this paper. At the last step, Harris corner detection is used to detect the eyes location. In experimental results, the eyes location on both grayscale and color facial images were detected accurately and effectively.

The facial expression is diverse and various among persons due to the impact of the psychology factor. Whilst the facial action is comparatively steady because of the fixedness of the anatomic structure. Therefore, to improve performance of the action unit recognition will facilitate the facial expression recognition and provide profound basis for the mental state analysis, etc. However, it still a challenge job and recognition accuracy rate is limited, because the muscle movements around the face are tiny and the facial actions are not obvious accordingly. Taking account of the moving of muscles impact each other when person express their emotion, we propose to make full use of co-occurrence relationship among action units (AUs) in this paper. Considering the dynamic characteristic of AUs as well, we adopt the 3D Convolutional Neural Network(3DCNN) as base framework and proposed to recognize multiple action units around brows, nose and mouth specially contributing in the emotion expression with putting their co-occurrence relationships as constrain. The experiments have been conducted on a typical public dataset CASME and its variant CASME2 dataset. The experiment results show that our proposed AU co-occurrence constraint 3DCNN based AU recognition approach outperforms current approaches and demonstrate the effectiveness of taking use of AUs relationship in AU recognition.

As South Korea enters the realm of an super-aging society, the demand for elderly welfare services has been steadily rising. However, the current shortage of welfare personnel has emerged as a social issue. To address this challenge, there is active research underway on elderly care robots designed to mitigate the social isolation of the elderly and provide emergency contact capabilities in critical situations. Nonetheless, these functionalities require direct user contact, which represents a limitation of conventional elderly care robots. In this paper, we propose a solution to overcome these challenges by introducing a care robot system capable of interacting with users without the need for direct physical contact. This system leverages commercialized elderly care robots and cameras. We have equipped the care robot with an edge device that incorporates facial expression recognition and action recognition models. The models were trained and validated using public available data. Experimental results demonstrate high accuracy rates, with facial expression recognition achieving 96.5% accuracy and action recognition reaching 90.9%. Furthermore, the inference times for these processes are 50ms and 350ms, respectively. These findings affirm that our proposed system offers efficient and accurate facial and action recognition, enabling seamless interaction even in non-contact situations.

Hand gesture recognition has been widely used in virtual reality and HCI (Human-Computer-Interaction) system, which is challenging and interesting subject in the vision based area. The existing approaches for vision-driven interactive user interfaces resort to technologies such as head tracking, face and facial expression recognition, eye tracking and gesture recognition. The purpose of this paper is to combine the finite state machine (FSM) and the gesture recognition method, in other to control Windows Media Player, such as: play/pause, next, pervious, and volume up/down.
This article come to study the visualization representation technique of eye brain of person, basing on the ground of the dynamic graphics which is able to change the real time, manipulating the image as graphic factors of the multi-data. And the important thought in such realization is as follows ; corresponding the character points of human face and the parameter control value which obtains basing on the existing image recognition algorithm to the multi-dimensional data, synthesizing the image, it is to create the virtual image from the emotional expression according to the changing contraction expression. The proposed DyFIG system is realized that it as the completing module and we suggest the module of human face graphics which is able to express the emotional expression by manipulating and experimenting, resulting in realizing the emotional data expression description and technology.
