We present an innovative method of multi-physics application involving energetic materials. Energetic materials are related to reacting flows in extreme environments such as fires and explosions. They typically involve high pressure, hish temperature, strong non-linear shock waves, and high strain rate deformation of metals. We use an Eulerian methodology to address these problems. Our approach is naturally free from large deformation of materials that makes it suitable for high strain-rate multi-material interaction problems. Furthermore we eliminate the possible interface smearing by using the level sets. We have devised a new level set based tracking framework that can elegantly handle large gradients typically found in reacting gases and metals. We show several work-in-progress applications of our algorithm including the Taylor impact test, explosive venting and additional confined explosion problems of modem interest.

Evaluation of the durability and stability of materials used in power plants is of great importance because parts or components for turbines, heat exchangers and compressors are often exposed to extreme environments such as high temperature and pressure. In this work, high-temperature corrosion behavior of 316 L stainless steel in a carbon dioxide environment was studied to examine the applicability of a material for a supercritical carbon dioxide Brayton cycle as the next generation power plant system. The specimens were exposed in a high-purity carbon dioxide environment at temperatures ranging from 500 to $800^{\circ}C$ during 1000 hours. The features of the corroded products were examined by optical microscope and scanning electron microscope, and the chemical compound was determined by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results show that while the 316 L stainless steel had good corrosion resistance in the range of $500-700^{\circ}C$ in the carbon dioxide environment, the corrosion resistance at $800^{\circ}C$ was very poor due to chipping the corroded products off, which resulted in a considerable loss in weight.
The lubricational characteristics about friction wear has an effect on the material quality of surface. In this paper, we studied the lubricational characteristics through the surface modification experiment by spray coating the surface with $MoS_{2}$ and PTFE solid lubricants. In the case of $MoS_{2}$ and PTFE coating, the friction coefficient of Journal is lower than that for noncoating so the friction characteristics is excellent. In particular, the beginning characteristics of $MoS_{2}$ coating is excellent, and in the case of PTFE coating, seizure dose not appear seizure. $MoS_{2}$ and PTFE coating are excellent in the extreme pressure at high load. The wear characteristics is excellent in the following order; PTFE < $MoS_{2}$ < Non Coating. For Non coating, seizure appears at the beginning due to the heat, but in the case of $MoS_{2}$ and PTFE coating, it will have the excellent heat stability even at high temperature.

It's possible for a human to breathe under water, if dissolved oxygen is effectively used. Fish can stay under water using the gill which extracts dissolved oxygen from water. Water includes small amounts of oxygen, so a human needs larger amounts of water to acquire oxygen enough for underwater breathing. The exhalation gas from a human is another method to get higher amounts of oxygen under water. It mainly composes of oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide. So, if only carbon dioxide is decreased, the exhalation gas has good characteristics for breathing of a human under water. In this paper, composition of the exhalation gas from a human was analyzed using GC. Based on these results, the synthesized gas was prepared and mixed into water which was used for experimental devices to analyze separation characteristics of dissolved gases from water. Experimental devices included a water pump, a hollow fiber membrane module and a vacuum pump. The effects of pressure and water flow on separation characteristics of synthesized gas were investigated. The compositions of gases separated from water using synthesized gas were investigated using GC. These results expect to be applied to the development of underwater breathing technology for a human.
The present study employed two different machine-learning approaches, the extreme gradient boosting (XGB) and light gradient boosting machine (LGBM), to predict a compressive deformation behavior of additively manufactured Ti-6Al-4V. Such approaches have rarely been verified in the field of metallurgy in contrast to artificial neural network and its variants. XGB and LGBM provided a good prediction for elongation to failure under an extrapolated condition of processing parameters. The predicting accuracy of these methods was better than that of response surface method. Furthermore, XGB and LGBM with optimum hyperparameters well predicted a deformation behavior of Ti-6Al-4V additively manufactured under the extrapolated condition. Although the predicting capability of two methods was comparable, LGBM was superior to XGB in light of six-fold higher rate of machine learning. It is also noted this work has verified the LGBM approach in solving the metallurgical problem for the first time.
Background: Thermophysiological comfort in a cold environment is mainly ensured by clothing. However, the thermal performance and protective abilities of textile fabrics may be sensitive to extreme environmental conditions. This article evaluated the thermal insulation properties of three technical textile assemblies and determined the influence of environmental parameters (temperature, humidity, and wind speed) on their insulation capacity. Methods: Thermal insulation capacity and air permeability of the assemblies were determined experimentally. A sweating-guarded hotplate apparatus, commonly called the "skin model," based on International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 11092 standard and simulating the heat transfer from the body surface to the environment through clothing material, was adopted for the thermal resistance measurements. Results: It was found that the assemblies lost about 85% of their thermal insulation with increasing wind speed from 0 to 16 km/h. Under certain conditions, values approaching 1 clo have been measured. On the other hand, the results showed that temperature variation in the range (-40℃, 30℃), as well as humidity ratio changes (5 g/kg, 20 g/kg), had a limited influence on the thermal insulation of the studied assemblies. Conclusion: The present study showed that the most important variable impacting the thermal performance and protective abilities of textile fabrics is the wind speed, a parameter not taken into account by ISO 11092.
The electrostatic phenomenon seriously issued in extreme ultraviolet semiconductor cleaning was studied in junction with molecular dynamic aspect. It was understood that two lone pairs of electrons in water molecule were subtly different each other in molecular orbital symmetry, existed as two states of large energy difference, and became basis for water clustering through hydron bonds. It was deduced that when hydrogen bond formed by lone pair of higher energy state was broken, two types of [H2O]+ and [H2O]- ions would be instantaneously generated, or that lone pair of higher energy state experiencing reactions such as friction with Teflon surface could cause electrostatic generation. It was specifically observed that, in case of electrolyzed cathode water, negative electrostatic charges by electrons were overlapped with negative oxidation reduction potentials without mutual reaction. Therefore, it seemed that negative electrostatic development could be minimized in cathode water by mutual repulsion of electrons and [OH]- ions, which would be providing excellences on extreme ultraviolet cleaning and electrostatic control as well.
To compensate location error of ultrasonic horn, the laser scanning system based on the galvanometer scanner is developed. It consists of the 3-Axis linear stage and the 2-Axis galvanometer scanner. To measure surface shape of three-dimensional free form surface, the dynamic focusing unit is adopted, which can maintain consistent focal plane. With combining the linear stage and the galvanometer scanner, the scanning area is enlarged. The scanning CAD system is developed by stage motion teaching and NURBS method. The laser scanning system is tested by marking experiment with the semi-cylindrical sample. Scanning accuracy is investigated by measured laser marked line width with various scanning speed.
