  • The aim of this study is to fabricate an ultra-fine pure rhodium wire using multi-pass wire drawing process. To manufacture $30{\mu}m$ ultra-fine rhodium wire from the initial $50{\mu}m$ wire, a multi-pass wire drawing process was designed based on the uniform reduction ratio theory. The elastic-plastic finite element analysis was then conducted to validate the efficacy of the designed process. The drawing load, drawing stress, and the distribution of the effective strain were evaluated using the finite element analysis. Finally, the wire drawing experiment was performed to validate the designed wire drawing process. From the results of the experiment, the diameter of the final drawn wire was found to be $29.85{\mu}m$.

  • The tubular link chain conveyor works under very extreme conditions such as high tensile load, friction, and dangerous operating environments. In this study, we propose an optimal design plan for reducing cost and improving performance through weight reduction of tubular link chain conveyors for sludge transport. For light weight of tubular link chain conveyor, the optimization software using SHERPA algorithms, HEEDS was used in conjunction with ANSYS Mechanical V14.5, which is widely used in structural analysis, to achieve optimal tubular link chain. Through the optimization process, 19% light weight was achieved.

  • Military aircraft may have fatigue cracks in structurally weak areas due to multiple factors such as the accumulation of flight time while perform various missions and unpredictable air conditions. As a fatigue crack progresses, there is a risk that the structure will be destroyed in extreme cases, which can have a significant impact on flight safety. In this study, a cracking phenomenon was observed during the periodic inspection the inner support of the fairing, which is installed to protect the connection between the wing and the body of the aircraft. Therefore, a study on a series of quality improvement processes for reformation was described. In order to identify the causes of cracks, pre-load generation occurrence during the wing assembly process was investigated and a fracture analysis was performed. Also, the design of the support structure was suggested in terms of preventing recurrence of cracks. The structural integrity was verified using a stress and fatigue life analysis.

  • The present study simplified the moment-curvature relationship to straightforwardly determine the flexural behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) columns. For the idealized column section, moments and neutral axis depths at different stages(first flexural crack, yielding of tensile reinforcing bar, maximum strength, and 80% of the maximum strength at the descending branch) were derived on the basis of the equilibrium condition of forces and compatibility condition. Concrete strains at the extreme compression fiber beyond the maximum strength were determined using the stress-strain relationship of confined concrete, proposed by Kim et al. The lateral load-displacement curves converted from the simplified moment-curvature relationship of columns are well consistent with test results obtained from column specimens under various parameters. The moments and the corresponding neutral axis depth at different stages were formulated as a function of longitudinal reinforcement and transverse reinforcement indices and/or applied axial load index. Overall, curvature ductility of columns was significantly affected by the axial load level as well as concrete compressive strength and the amount of longitudinal and transverse reinforcing bars.

  • This study is concerned with the estimation of fluctuate wind velocity statistic properties in the major cities reflecting the recent meteorological with largest data samples (yearly 2003-2012). The basic wind speeds were standardized homogeneously to the surface roughness category C, and to 10m above the ground surface. The estimation of the extreme of non-Gaussian load effects for design applications has often been treated tacitly by invoking a conventional wind design (gust load peak factor) on the basis of Gaussian processes. This assumption breaks down when the loading processes exhibits non-Gaussianity, in which a conventional wind design yields relatively non conservative estimates because of failure to include long tail regions inherent to non-Gaussian processes. This study seeks to ascertain the probability distribution function from recently wind data with effected typhoon & maximum instantaneous wind speed.

  • We have examined the runoff characteristics of nonpoint source (NPS) in fields. Two monitoring sites were equipped with an automatic velocity meter and water sampler. Monitoring was conducted at fields 1 and field 2 during the rainfall event. Ten rainfall-runoff events were monitored and analyzed during the study period. The results show that runoff occurred if daily rainfall and intensity were higher than 40 mm and 1.6 mm/hr except a few extreme rainfall events with very high intensity. Runoff of field 1 was approximately twice of that of field 2. Event mean concentrations (EMC) and pollution load of analyzed water quality indices were also higher in field 2 than in field 1. Especially, TN load from field 2 was $75.4 mg/m^2$ and was about 5 times higher than that from field 1. Analysis of Pearson correlation coefficient of water quality parameter indicates that besides of TN all items in fields 1 have tight relationship respectively (p < 0.01). But those of fields 2 have a significant (p < 0.05). Estimating units loading of NPS, we suggested that variable such as soil texture, rainfall amount and intensity and slope were needed to be considered from agricultural landuses. The results of this study can be used as a basic data in the development and implementation of total maximum daily loads (TMDL) in Korea.

  • This paper examined the impact of the cross-sectional structure on the structural results under different loading conditions of reinforced concrete (RC) members' management limited in Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP). The mechanical properties of CFRC was investigated, then, totally 32 samples were examined. Test parameters included the cross-sectional shape as square, rectangular and circular with two various aspect rates and loading statues. The loading involved concentrated loading, eccentric loading with a ratio of 0.46 to 0.6 and pure bending. The results of the test revealed that the CFRP increased ductility and load during concentrated processing. A cross sectional shape from 23 to 44 percent was increased in load capacity and from 250 to 350 percent increase in axial deformation in rectangular and circular sections respectively, affecting greatly the accomplishment of load capacity and ductility of the concentrated members. Two Artificial Intelligence Models as Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) were used to estimating the tensile and flexural strength of specimen. On the basis of the performance from RMSE and RSQR, C-Shape CFRC was greater tensile and flexural strength than any other FRP composite design. Because of the mechanical anchorage into the matrix, C-shaped CFRCC was noted to have greater fiber-matrix interfacial adhesive strength. However, with the increase of the aspect ratio and fiber volume fraction, the compressive strength of CFRCC was reduced. This possibly was due to the fact that during the blending of each fiber, the volume of air input was increased. In addition, by adding silica fumed to composites, the tensile and flexural strength of CFRCC is greatly improved.

  • In this paper, we designed 3D-printed orthopedic splint models for patient-specific external coaptation on fracture healing and analyzed the stability of the models through finite element method (FEM) analysis under compressive load conditions. Polylactic acid (PLA) and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) based 3D splint models of the thicknesses 1, 3, 5 and 7 mm were designed, and Peak von Mises stress (PVMS) and maximum displacement (MD) of the models were analyzed by FEM under compressive loads of 50, 100, 150, and 200 N. The FEM results indicated that PVMS and MD values, regardless of material, had a negative correlation with the thickness of the models and a positive correlation with the compressive load. There was a risk of splint deformation under conditions more extreme than 100 N with 5 mm thickness. For successful clinical application of 3D-printed orthopedic splints in veterinary medicine, it is recommended that the splint should be produced not less than 5 mm thickness. Also, it is expected to be stable when the splint is applied to situations with a compressive load of 100 N or less. There is an advantage of overcoming the limitations of the existing bandage method through 3D-printing technology as well as verifying the stability through 3D modeling before application. Such 3D printing technology will be widely used in veterinary medicine and various fields as well as orthopedics.

  • When designing fixed jacket structures, overseas design standards are applied due to the absence of domestic design methods. Although the US API standards are mainly applied, API RP 2A suggests two design methods: the allowable stress design method (WSD) and the load resistance coefficient method (LRFD), and is applied according to the designer's judgment. In this study, the stress ratio of the two design methods was reviewed and compared using SACS, an analysis program dedicated to marine structures, for fixed marine structures actually installed on the domestic coast. As a result of the review, it was found that the LRFD design method showed a greater stress ratio for extreme load analysis and transportation analysis, and the WSD design method showed a greater stress ratio for loading and lifting. Therefore, when applying the design method, it is considered appropriate to select the final design method considering safety and economic feasibility after conducting an applicability review for the two design methods.
