Sorption experiments of $^{60}$ Co, $^{85}$ Sr. and $^{137}$ Cs onto sandstone particles in a batch were carried out to investigate the migration mobility. Sorption kinetics and reversibility as well as sorption mechanisms were examined. Sorption reaction occurred mostly within 10 hours on the outer surface of the sandstone particle but diffusion into the inner surface of the mineral has still occurred after that time. In order to distinguish sorption types of radionuclides, a sequential chemical extraction was introduced. The sorbed radionuclides were then extracted by applying different solutions of synthetic groundwater, CaCl$_2$, KCl and KOX-HA Especially KCl is adopted to extract the ion-exchanged cesium. Sorption types considered are reversible sorption under groundwater condition, ion exchange, association with ferro-manganese oxides or oxyhydroxides, and irreversible fixation. Strontium sorbs onto the sandstone surface mainly by fast and reversible ion exchange reaction. However, cobalt and cesium do not sorb by simple process. The main sorptive binding of cobalt was the association with ferro-manganese oxides and the secondary one was irreversible fixation. Diffusion into the lattice of minerals controlled the sorption rate of cobalt The main sorptin type of cesium was irreversible fixation, while ion exchange reaction was the secondary importance. Hence the oreder of migration mobility for the three radionuclides was Sr$^{2+}$ > Co$^{2+}$ > Cs$^{+}$ in the sandstones.

This experimental study was performed to investigate the antifungal effects of mixture of Sophorac Subprostratae Radix, Aconti Radix, and Hibisci Syriaci Cortex by the three types of extraction in the dermatophytes such as Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, and Epidermophyton floccosum. The following results were obtained by using Minimum Inhibition Concentration(MIC) and Inhibition Zone. 1. MIC on Trichophyton mentagrophytes in Sample S-2, Sample S-3, and Sample-Y were 10${\mu}l$, respectively, showing the highest antifungal effect. 2. MIC on Epidermophyton floccosum in Sample S-2, Sample S-3, and Sample-Y were 10㎕ respectively, showing the highest antifungal effect. 3. MIC on Trichophyton rubrum in Sample S-3, Sample-Y were 10${\mu}l$ respectively, showing the highest antifungal effect. 4. The size of inhibition zone on Trichophyton mentagrophytes for Sample S-3 were 22.3mm in 10${\mu}l$, showing the highest antifungal effect. 5. The size of inhibition zone on Epidermophyton floccosum for Sample S-3 was 34.3mm in 10${\mu}l$, showing the highest antifungal effect. 6. The size of inhibition zone on Trichophyton rubrum for Sample-Y was 26.5mm in 10${\mu}l$, showing the highest antifungal effect. Whereas. in extractions, that of Sample S-3 was 12.5mm in 10${\mu}l$, showing the highest antifungal effect. 7. From the above results, Sample S-3 on Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum and Sample-Y on Trichophyton rubrum showed the highest antifungal effects. This results suggests that vinegar extraction excels other extraction method using water or ethanol to measure the antifungal effect on dermatophytes. In addition, the result shows that the extract of herbal medicines can be used to tinea pedis and if further study is performed, the use of the extract of herbal medicines will be valuable and beneficial in the clinical medicines. Jet engine modulation(JEM) signals are widely used in the field of target recognition along with high-range resolution profile and inverse synthetic aperture radar because they provide specific information of the jet engine. To obtain the number of blades of the jet engine, the chopping frequency proportional to the number of blades must be extracted. In the conventional chopping frequency extraction method, an initial threshold value is defined and a method of detecting the chopping peak is used. However, this detection method takes time depending on the signal due to repetitive detection. Thus, in this study, we proposed to extract the chopping frequency using MUltiple SIgnal Classification(MUSIC) algorithm. We applied the MUSIC algorithm to a given JEM signal to find the chopping frequency and determine the blade number candidates. We also applied the MUSIC algorithm to other chopping frequency extractions to determine the score of the candidate groups. Unlike the conventional detection algorithm, which requires repetitive frequency detection, MUSIC algorithm quickly detects the accurate chopping frequency and reduces the calculation time.

A simultaneous determination method for cholesterol, lanosterol and desmosterol was developed using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. Urine was enzymatically hydrolyzed with ${\beta}$-glucuronidase/arylsulfatase. Samples were prepared using extractions with a mixture of ethyl acetate-hexane (2:3, v/v), followed by derivatization with a mixture of MSTFA/TMSI/TMCS (100:2:5 v/v/v). All analyses were performed using GC/MS in selective ion monitoring mode. Good linearities ($r^2=0.998{\sim}0.999$) in calibration curve and a satisfactory recovery (80.0%~113%) were achieved. Accuracy and precision values within ${\pm}15%$ in the concentration range of 5 to 200 ng/mL were also observed for all compounds. The developed method was applied to pravastatin-treated (70 and 250 mg/kg/day for 7 days, oral) hyperlipidemia rats. Those sterols were significantly lower in drug-treated rats compared to the controls, which justifies the drug efficacy. Therefore, these results indicate that the developed method was successfully applied to examine statin drug efficacy with urine sample.

The extraction and filtration of red ginseng with a mixed solvent of water and alcohol-a common processing method-and the production of a concentrate through heat treatment, such as steaming, leads to its hydrolysis or polymerization. Approximately 200 ginsenosides have consequently been detected in small amounts, in addition to the identification of the functions of approximately 30 major ginsenosides. This complicates the identification of the functionality of red ginseng and its efficacy, and has negative effects as a functional food, as the astringent taste becomes stronger with an increase in the number of extractions. The red ginseng concentrate was, therefore, extracted at a low temperature (less than 40 ℃) and processed to eliminate these negative aspects, with a specific focus on the characteristics of the functional components of ginsenosides.

Background: Local anesthetic injections may induce pain in children, leading to fear and anxiety during subsequent visits. Among the various approaches recommended to reduce pain, one is the use of a Buzzy BeeTM device that operates on the concept of gate control theory and distraction. The literature regarding its effectiveness during the deposition of local anesthesia remains limited; hence, the aim of the present study was to determine the efficacy of extraoral cold and vibrating devices in reducing pain perception during the deposition of local anesthesia. Methods: A split-mouth crossover study in which 40 children aged 3-12 years requiring maxillary infiltration or inferior alveolar nerve block for extractions or pulp therapy in the maxillary or mandibular posterior teeth were included. The control intervention involved the application of topical anesthetic gel for one minute (5% lignocaine gel), followed by the administration of local anesthetic (2% lignocaine with 1:80,000 adrenaline) at a rate of 1 ml/ minute. Along with the control protocol, the test intervention involved using the Buzzy BeeTM device for 2 minutes before and during the deposition of the local anesthetic injection. The heart rate and face, legs, arms, cry, and consolability revised (FLACC-R) scale scores were recorded by the dentist to assess the child's pain perception. Results: The mean age of the participants in Group A and Group B was 7.050 ± 3.12 years and 7.9 ± 2.65 years respectively. A reduction in the mean heart rate and FLACC-R score was observed during the deposition of local anesthetic solution in the tissues when the Buzzy BeeTM was used in both groups at different visits in the same subjects (P < 0.05) The Buzzy BeeTM device was effective in reducing the heart rate and FLACC-R scores when used during maxillary infiltration and inferior alveolar nerve block local anesthesia techniques (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The use of extraoral cold and vibrating devices significantly reduces pain perception during local anesthetic deposition in pediatric patients. Considering the results of this study, the device may be incorporated as an adjunct in routine dental practice while administering local anesthesia in children.
This study has focused on investigation of correlation for As and heavy metals in paddy soil and rice crops sampled in the vicinity of the abandoned Munmyung Au-Ag mine. Soil samples extracted by various methods including aqua regia, 1 M $MgCl_2$, 0.01 M $CaCl_2$ and 0.05 M EDTA were analyzed for As and heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn). Rice grain samples grown on the soils were also analyzed for the same elements to evaluate the relationships between soils and rice crops. According to soil extraction methods, As and heavy metal contents in the soils were decreased in the order of aqua regia > 0.01 M $CaCl_2$ > 1 M $MgCl_2$ > 0.05 M EDTA. In addition to correlation analysis, statistically significant correlation with the four extraction methods (p<0.01) were found in the soil and rice samples. As calculation of biological accumulation coefficients (BACs) of the rice crops for As and heavy metals, the BACs for Cd, Zn and Cu were relatively higher than those for As and Pb. This study also carried out a stepwise multiple linear regression analysis to identify the dominant factors influencing metal extraction rates of the paddy soils. Furthermore, daily intakes of As and heavy metals from regularly consumed the rice grain (287 g/day) grown on the contaminated soils by the mining activities were estimated, and found that Cd and As intakes from the rice reached up to 73.7% and 51.8% for maximum allowance levels of trace elements suggested by WHO, respectively. Therefore, long-term consumption of the rice poses potential health problems to residents around the mine, although no adverse health effects have yet been observed.
This study explored an efficient modified Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged and safe (QuEChERS) method combined with liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization with tandem mass spectrometric detection for the analysis of residues of 76 pesticides in brown rice, barley and corn including acidic sulfonylurea herbicides. Formic acid (1%) acid in acetonitrile and dispersive solid phase extractions used for extraction of pesticides and clean-up of the extract respectively. Two fortified spikes at 50 and 200 ng $g^{-1}$ levels were performed for recovery test. Mean recoveries of majority of pesticides at two spike levels ranged from 73.2 to 132.2, 80.9 to 136.8, 66.6 to 143.5 for brown rice, barley and corn respectively with standard error (CV) less than 10%. Good linearity of calibration curves were achieved with $R^2$ > 0.9907 within the observed concentration ranged. The modified method also provided satisfactory results for sulfonylurea herbicides. The method was applied to the determination of residues of target pesticides in real samples. A total of 26 pesticides in 36 out of 98 tasted samples were observed. The highest concentration was observed for tricyclazole at 1.17 mg $kg^{-1}$ in brown rice. This pesticide in two brown rice samples exceeded their MRLs regulated for rice in republic of Korea. Except tricyclazole none of the observed pesticides' concentration was higher than their MRLs. The results reveal that the method is effectively applicable to routine analysis of residues of target pesticides in brown rice, barley and corn.

The objective of this study was to provide guidelines for the diagnosis and successful treatment of orthodontic treatment with upper premolar extraction only Methods: The sample group consisted of 40 patients (20 with upper premolar extraction only, 20 with both upper and lower premolar extractions) who showed an overjet of more than 7 mm and were finished successfully. Lateral cephalographs were taken before and after orthodontic treatment. Landmarks showing the position of the upper and lower incisors and the position of the upper and lower lip were determined and angular measurement of these values were obtained for statistical analysis (Mann-Whitney test). Results: At pre-treatment, the position of the lower incisor was less labially inclined and the convexity of the lower lip was smaller in the upper premolar extraction only group than in the upper/lower premolar extraction group. At post-treatment, there was no difference in all measurements except for the position of the lower incisor. A comparison of changes between pre- and post-treatment showed that the retraction of upper & lower incisors and the decrease in convexity of the lower lip were greater in the upper/lower premolar extraction group. Conclusions: Treatment by upper premolar extraction can be of benefit for patients whose lower incisor proclination and lower lip protrusion are not excessive.

The purpose of this retrospective study was to estimate the pretreatment characteristics of growing patients with Class II malocclusion. who had been treated with maxillary second molar extractions The sample comprised of 51 subjects; 18 subjects were classified into the molar extraction group, and 33 subjects were treated without extraction and classified into the nonextraction group. Pretreatment lateral cephalograms were calculated and analyzed by independent t-test and stepwise discriminant analysis. In measurements for skeletal pattern, no anteroposterior measurements and proportions of various vertical dimensions were significantly different. and only some measurements such as $AB-MP(^{\circ)$, Na-We(mm), AVD (mm) were significantly different between the two treatment groups (p<0.05). In measurements for dentoalveolar pattern. some measurements, which were related to the position and angulation of the upper and lower permanent first molars, and the angulation of the upper third molars, were significantly different between the two treatment groups In particular, the maxillary second molar extraction group exhibited more mesial angulation of maxillary first molar to the occlusal plane.
